Does anyone knows of an edit or a mod to make our 4G stay on longer and not go down to 3G? I dont care about battery life, thanks in advance.
Have you already tried settings> more settings> mobile networks then press on select network mode and select wcdma only?

They took out wdcma only with 4.1.2. To stay on 4g open your dialer dial *#2263# and it brings up a menu choose wdcma preffered or lte/4g only. This will drain your battery guaranteed tho.

Awesome info here. Was wondering why they took out that option to stay on 4G. It adds E to every option in the regular version. I keep getting E a lot more than I used too.
Thing is, if I do this, is it just as easy to go back to those other options?

I don't think so, t989 is not lte by default, even it has 1700mhz. But if you can find a radio to enable it, that will be a different story.
It will never work on att lte. Doesn't have the hardware for it. It will say 3g but will have T-Mobile "4g" speed. 10+mbps

i have a feeling it is possible but not sure how to do it exactly because it has worked the other way with the right modem and kernel.
Did you read the thread? Ultimately, the thread proves that our phone doesn't have lte so we won't be able to connect to any lte network. However we do get h+ on att though... which can go up to 20+ mbps which is more than enough.

thanks for the help so i understand you can't get 4g lte but i can get 4g hspa+ but i have been only getting 3g so far. So could you please tell me which radio to flash and do i need to maually switch bands through service mode or any of that sorts of stuff. thanks in advance. I would be happy with hspa+ if i could get it to work. and wat apn setting should i use?
Before getting to the radios. The icons might say 3g but you're really getting 4g speed. Have you done any speed test? If you're getting below like 3mbps then you probably need to change radios. For some phones stock radios will work with att. But if it doesn't then go over to the skyrocket forum and choose a radio. There should be threads for it. You don't need to change kernels that has nothing to do with it. Only radios.

I'm frustrated already, I bought an AT&T SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 and also purchased an unlock code, phone was working just fine with 4g on AT&T ( Tested ) but after unlocking I just don't get service when I use a T Mobile or Simple Mobile SIM.
On the About Phone -> Status I do get "Network: T-Mobile/Simple Mobile" ( Depending on the SIM I use ), but I don't even get EDGE, I cant make calls, I get the annoying emergency calls only, its making me crazy. Is there a way to fix this issue?
I am in Tucson Arizona, a city where T-Mobile has upgraded their GSM frequency.
( I already added the APN settings, but im sure I don't need that to make calls, or get EDGE, I don't know what else to do to fix this ).
Thanks
Does it still work on att?

Not trying to be an a$$ I rly do appreciate that you are taking your time helping me but on my first post is stated that I added the APN and that APN should not keep me from making calls.
The Note 2 uses a micro SIM, I trimmed my T Mobile SIM, this SIM still works on my HTC HD2, but its not working on the Note 2, is it possible that the phone is rejecting the SIM? does the Micro SIM has any kind of DATA that is not present on my trimmed SIM?
The phone works fine with an AT&T micro SIM but not with the T Mobile one( the phone is unlocked with a purchased code ).
Had S2 and got HSPA network all day long now I have the S3 I only get UTMS. What's the deal? I even updated my Sim card today and thought that would help but I am still on UTMS and not HSPA. When I had the S2 I could get HSPA on data and wifi networks. So now I am wondering if something is wrong with my phone. Hell, if I can't get HSPA I mind as well go back to the S2 or get a phone that can get HSPA like it's supposed too.

It affects latency when its switching but has a negligible effect on actual download speed. It also saves battery over being on HSPA all the time.

There's nothing to correct. It was intentionally built to do exactly what it is doing. It saves bandwidth on the network and yes, it does save on battery. So you have to wait an extra 6/10ths of a second for it to start reaching full speeds... Imo, its a great tradeoff!

No, T-Mobile uses dual carrier HSPA which theoretically can use double the bandwidth and double the battery life of At&t HSPA. Using UMTS as an idle fall back makes sense as HSPA itself is already a huge battery drainer (lock your phone to Edge for 24 hours and you'll see what I mean) - UMTS still consumes more than EDGE obviously but the hand off from EDGE to UMTS would be impossible to maintain virtual transparency.

Do I need to upgrade the radio on my Sprint Galaxy S3 to be able to receive 4g LTE?
I just installed Cyanogen 10.1.3 on my phone this morning, and found out that apparently we have 4g LTE in the area now......its a new thing apparently..... I don't see any indication that my phone is getting 4g LTE though.....
I used ClockworkMod to install 10.1.3 if that helps......
4G is already configured on the ROM, you might check Settings/more settings wireless/mobile networks to see if 4G is set as default. Now just because you guys are getting 4G in your area doesn't necessarily mean that right where you are you are receiving it if that makes any sense

Because it's an lte phone. It will say 4g or lte depending on what icon your rom is using. If your on an aosp rom there's usually a toggle you might want to toggle it on and off and on.

That's pretty damn basic man. I highly advise going through every single, yes every single, setting menu there is under settings now that you have a custom ROM. You'll get a basic overview of where everything is, toggle wise, plus get to see all the cool customization you can do now.
Settings > under Wireless & Networks: More... > Mobile Networks > Network Mode

if it's set to CDMA/LTE then you are golden, however you might not have LTE in your area despite the fact that Sprint says they are expanding 4g coverage in your area
check the user contributed map from
http://sensorly.com/map/4G/US/USA/Sprint/lte_310sprint
Hey guys!
I recently switched over to T-Mobile from Sprint. After looking at the data maps, it appears that I'm supposed to have a very strong signal/connection with LTE in my area. This isn't the case with my new GS4 however.
I get 1 bar at best and at times the signals get choppy. HSPA+ is strong, phone calls are clear, but LTE is lacking.
I know when I used my GS2 with Sprint they had things called modems that you could flash for varying connection performance. With the HTC EVO 4G, you could flash Radios.
Does the GS4 have anything similar to that effect? Do different ROMs have varying efficiency in terms of connectivity?
I'm just trying to optimize my connection. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!
On an interesting note - my IP is showing as Washington from T-Mobile even though I live in Denver..
I am having the same issue here in Texas. Sucks that there is no radio support and have alternate radios to flash.
