[Q] Hard bricked Ace II when updating to 4.1.2 - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just yesterday I flashed my galaxy Ace 2 with 4.1.2 on Odin (which I've done hundreds of times), but I wasn't so lucky on the other side. I seem to have hard bricked my phone, no boot, no download, nothing . I made sure I put the tar.md5 in the PDA as usual, can someone please help me try and revive my bricked ace 2. I hear a usb jig will work for soft brick but will it work on a hard bricked phone?

Yeah I flashed with china 4.1.2 >.<, later to find out china does not support other countries. I ordered a Jig off ebay, should be coming soon

Well, if your phone doesn't even turns on or enters to download mode with the 3button combination it's hard bricked.
Probably corrupted pbl and/or sbl which means the jig will not work.
Send back to samsung if it's still under warranty or ask someone who has JTAG and upload the bootloaders to the nand, this will bring back dl mode - a JTAG repair will cost approx. 30-50 USD.

Hmmm, It seems to be when I plug my phone into the computer it makes the USB connected sound and stays like that, but after about 5-6 seconds it makes the disconnect sound. Does this mean anything at all?

It confirms your bootloader is corrupted.
I guess it will show an "U8500 USB ROM" in device manager when you connect the USB cable.
That's because the phones internal rom (I don't know what exactly called) tries to load the primary bootloader but it can't find a valid one.
The boot process of Ace 2 and I guess for a few other Samsung devices:
Internal rom -> PBL -> Search for valid SBL -> Loading SBL -> SBL Checks if any 3key combo or JIG/UART/charger/etc connected ?
NO -> Normal boot, loading kernel, etc.
YES -> Charging, Download mode or Recovery mode (depending which buttons are pressed or device is connected).
Or something similar, but the point is you should NEVER flash bootloaders, if one of them gets corrupted you can't recover your phone with the usual tools.
I doubt it can be recovered, but try this:
Pull out the battery, connect the phone to the PC (Odin should be started before) press vol_down+home+power and reinsert the battery (still hold the 3 buttons!)
See if odin detects the phone.

I plugged the phone into a different usb port and it said U8500 USB ROM then it says no driver found. Does this basically mean Ive screwed the boot? IS there any other way than JTAG to fix?

Hi
There is a trick that in most of cases can fix bircked phones!
Just remove battery and wait for a minute , then hold vol. down + Home + power button and ask someone to place battery while you are holding buttons!

I think your pretty much screwed unless you take it to someone who J/TAGS or can revive hard bricked devices, a usb jig will not work. I have learnt my lesson now, to always read the comments at least 10 times before flashing any rom, that goes for stock roms too .

Hello! I had exactly the same thing as you. Gave my phone to Sammy (flash counter was 2 and still is) and they've revived it for free :victory: I've got the phone back today. When leaving my device at Sammy, I've told (more or less ) what happened - OTA have crashed.
Anyway - I had the alternative way. Guys at GSM stalls told they may place a new bootloader too, but for money. Prices varied so be careful - from ~50 euros to even as cheap as 15 euros.

Bricked/dead SGS,

Hello guys, i have a problem with my sgs .. after downgrade from jv9 to froyo i've got my sgs bricked.. cannot enter do download mode by 3 button combo and by usb jiig is well ( jig is working, checked on sgs2) only thing happening is when i connect it by usb cable to my laptop i getting info the windows cannot find the driver for it and after few seconds is disconnecting.
Any ideas how to get it back to life ?
Thanx.
ps. sorry for my english. Cherrs
What happens when you turn it on normally?
At what screen does it stop?
Can you enter recovery mode?
its totally dead.
Remove the battery, wait a few minutes ( In fact, 30 sec should be alright ) the put it back. Press power button, if you see the phone -- triangle -- pc image, then just remove the battery again, put it back and plug your jig. If you see nothing i'm almost sure your screwed.
Steps:
First Remove your battery and wait 60 seconds
Then put the battery back in
There will be a small hole in the right side of the camera like a soft reset hole
take a paper clip
insert it in the hole and wait 25 seconds while pressing it in
then go into the download mode but the volume down +home button + power button
If the button method doesn't work try using the jig
Now it should work

Can you try running USBDeview from http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html . You should see all your existing devices like mouse, keyboard etc. Then plug the phone in, and if it shows up in USBDeview tell me what it says in these columns for the phone device:
VendorID, ProductID, USB Class, USB SubClass
You may need a couple of tries to get all the numbers if it's disconnecting after a few seconds.
I'm interested because it could be the type of brick we are trying to fix in this thread where the bootloaders have been corrupted and it is going into processor recovery mode. We don't have a fix for you but if I'm right it will confirm that you need to get the phone reflashed by Samsung. Ask them how they do it while you're there.
hmm i cannot see any hole on the right side of the camera.. there is only connector looks like gps antenna.
i tried on 3 different batteries and i tried to take battery out for few minutes and still not work..
hmm so what if there is that bootloader fault?
this is o2 brand phone so do you think guys can i just go to o2 and say that stops working after kies upgrade or some rubbish like that ? do you think that will work ?

Yes, they won't be able to tell what caused it, though your custom firmware could all reappear if they only reflash the bootloaders. But at least your phone will be fixed.
hmm ok but if they will know i had custom firmware they will charge me for repair ?
how log it normally takes ?
actually i was flashing the branded o2 froyo firmware while it happens.. but i got info from odin unsuccessfully flashed...

Yep, that confirms that your initial bootloader is trashed and the CPU has gone into USB recovery mode because it couldn't load the bootloader. The only fix currently is to get Samsung to reflash it, or get someone with a Riffbox or other JTAG equipment to fix it. Heating the phone will not help you, neither will reinstalling Samsung phone USB drivers.

Well mate; if we are talking about the usual samsung galaxy s , when we open the lid there definitely is that small gutter with a hole in it . That little diaphragm can be pressed by a blunt pin.
Your provider should fix the phone no problem.

Bricked my Galaxy Gio

Hi XDA,
I've searched in many threads but i can't find an anwser.
I've bricked my Galaxy Gio when i flashed a custom kernel. It was the kernel in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319816
Now it does nothing, I can't boot in any mode, not in download mode, not in recovery mode...
I have android 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
Is there any way to unbrick or is my phone just an expensive decoration now.
Thanks in Advance.

If not even adb detects it, i'm pretty sure you're buggered, mate.
did you try and leave the battery out for some 10 min or more?
If adb does not detect the phone after that, then it seems to be a brick for real.
Is your phone stop at the "samsung" when you turn on your phone?
If is this,it's very easy to unbrick
One easy procedure which you might want to try with no guarantee it'll work:
-Remove the battery, microSD and SIM from the phone.
-Prepare the Odin software and your ROM on a known working system
-Connect the phone to the computer with the USB cable.
-With one hand, simultaneously hold Volume down, home and power.
-With your other hand, put the battery in the phone.
I was able to get Odin to detect an otherwise bricked phone this way. I was however unable to get further than the "setup connection" step. Maybe your outcome will be better.

Darkshado

Yes this way usually works. I've tested this way.
that worked for me to on a brick when it didnt even went on, no recovery, download mode etc, after waiting 2 weeks and trying to repair it myself I nearly throw it away, and then suddenly it went into download mode for about 1 or 2 seconds, wich told me the battery whasn't working.. so I started to charge the battery, and hoped it would boot, but it didn't.. using that method given above, I could get into download mode again, and flashes a new stock ROM. now I still have my phone, working.

He was trying to port the ROM, not just blindly flashing something from another phone.
If no one bothered trying these sometimes crazy things, there wouldn't be much going on here at XDA.
Missing one line in your updater-script is all it takes. I had a similar incident while trying to flash ICS on my Gio. Way before Maclaw released anything here. Took that phone out for a while.

You might get download mode to work by removing the battery, plugging the USB cable in, holding Volume Down, Home and Power simultaneously, and putting the battery back in. Odin should recognize the phone, but in my case it went no further than trying to set up the connection.
I've also read reports on here that the USB jigs that put the proper resistance between pins (4 and 5 iirc) also work on the Gio to trigger a different "Factory" download mode. (Same ones as used on the Galaxy S GT-I9000.)
Good luck,
Darkshado

NO-BOOT BRICKS
This is where your phone does NOT turn on, no combo of buttons works and power button does nothing.
DO THIS ONLY WHEN YOU PLUG IN YOUR PHONE AND NOTHING SHOWS UP ON THE SCREEN!!! If else, follow the steps from above.
This method is basically same as above, EXCEPT the way you get into Download Mode as your phone is HARD BROKEN.
1. Download all the files required in the "SOFT BRICKS" section of this post.
2. Remove everything from your phone (SD card, sim, battery).
3. Plug your phone into your computer WITHOUT the battery, as you have already taken it out in the last step.
4. Press and HOLD vol. up and vol. down.
5. As you are HOLDING these buttons, reattach your battery.
6. You should be in Download Mode.
7. Unplug phone from USB
8. Follow steps 4-8 from the "SOFT BRICKS" section.
Troubleshooting:
-Odin stuck at some random process?
*Switch to another odin
*Make sure you did NOT check repartition, if you did, just repeat all the steps over again, of course for the downloading parts, obviously.
-Phone not responsive?
*Try the hard brick section right under
-Phone stuck at Galaxy S logo screen?
*Put it in to DL mode, and run Odin again, it's just a bad install.
-All three ODIN is nonfunctional, stuck or giving "FAILED" errors?
*DO NOT CLOSE ODIN ONCE IT HAS FAILED!
*Unplug your phone
*Replug in your phone, get it into DL mode
* Unplug once it is in DL mode
*Replug and ODIN should recognize your phone
*Leave all the settings the same, then click "Start" again.

Is this method worked with you ?
you hold the wrong button..
while you plugin the charge/usb cable, hold power button+vol down(not both up&down, only down)+home button then put again your battery..
if it still like that just go to ssc..

[Q] bricked device

Hi There all,
I bricked my device!
I installed multi window manager and ran the patch.
I should have not done this.
After one last message (something like copy binary from SD card) the device was dead.
Any help is highly appreciated

No I cant.
All combinations (power, volume home etc.. failed)
Removed back cover, disconencted battery
No result.
How did you remove the back cover?
I've been able to get mine out of pickles not involving the /boot partition by holding down the volume down, home and power keys simultaneously. Shortly after the model 5110 message displays, I release power and am asked if I really want to put the device into update mode.
I use Odin to write in the firmware I downloaded from samfirmware a few weeks ago.
I needed to do this last night after trying to disable a few system apps. I'm not sure which, probably a thing called "bubble," but as soon as I had, the device froze. A reboot went all the way through but then locked up after my startups finished.
I also needed to do this after something much closer to a soft brick involving trying to use the Xposed framework to change lcd density.
I reflashed and was able to defrost and I was back in business.

I removed it by gently prying the white back cover of.
I would recommend agains it because its delicate.
But I think you would advice me agains bricking my device.
I cant get it in download mode.
It wont show the charging again when charging.
It seems dead
Anybody might have a clue??

something just occurred to me - you've pulled out your sdcard and set it aside? sometimes a bodgy sdcard can get in the way of boot up, though it seems unlikely here.
It doesn't seem that patching the framework, even if it keeps you from booting past the model # screen, should be able to keep the device from at least powering on.
If you connect it to your PC and try holding in power for ~30 seconds, does any USB device or android device activity occur at all, even if a device appears and disappears again?
I did find that I had a "konawifi" device attached to my PC and needed to update its driver to access the device in CWR mode.

I pulled the SD card
This afternoon I will try your tip (connecting it to the PC)
I also will try a jig although I think this is useless
My last resort is back to Samsung. I have 2 choices, repair or make a frisbee out of it. I prefer the first option especially beacause I was rather pleased with the device
I tried making a jig when I bricked my Galaxy Media Player, and it did not work. Samsung repaired it, eventually.

Its totally impossible that patching the FlashBarService.apk could completely brick your device... A Boot loop is possible, but not a brick.

Flashed the wrong recovery!
Hi there, Ive soft bricked my Note 8.0 by accidentally flashing Note 2 recovery. Anyone know how I can fix this? Stuck in boot screen. I can get to download mode and Odin recognizes it, but I have no idea what to do from there.
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated..
no problem flash the note 8 recovery with odin
Sorry but I am new to soft brick. Have 3 rooted devices and never brick before. Can put device in download mode as kennielsen but I'm lost after that. Details on what to do and how to do it would be very nice, please!
