Hello guys!
When I turned on my phone this morning all my sms was deleted. Is it any chance of getting them back?
My phone is now in airplane mode to prevent data to be overwritten, if the are any left
I have no idea how this happend, but there is a chance that SwiftKey Keyboard has something to do with it. It has been acting up lately, and it has permission to read the phones sms.. The app is now deleted, but the sms are still gone
please help me! :crying:
I have a rooted HTC Desire (Bravo) with CM 7.1.0
Did you by any chance save your SMS on the SD card? They may have lost if you did so and the sd card starts acting up.
Remove the sd card/ battery and re-start the phone and check.

No, I think they were stored in the phones internal memory.
But just to be certain I tried removing the batteri, sd-card and sim, but without any luck, still no sms

Is your phone rooted?
Yes, the phone is rooted and has clockworkmod recovery.
The rom is cyanogenmod 7.1.0

With a root file explorer, go to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases. That is the sms databases' location. Are they still there? Are they empty?
Yes, there are still files in the databases folder
6 files: mmssms.db
mmssms.db-shm
mmssms.db-wal
telephony.db
telephony.db-shm
telephony.db-wal

With root explorer, i have an option to see words in the database, therefore my sms. Do you have that option?
How big are the mmssms databases?
I'm using Root Explorer (File Manager) 2.20
I think I can open the database-files in a text viewer.
Should I try opening mmssms.db in text viewer?
mmssms.db -----------> 1.00K
mmssms.db-shm ----> 32.00K
mmssms.db-wal -----> 50.18K

mmssms.db is the database that holds the sms. It's obviously empty.
The other two might be some kind of backups or something. First, copy mmssms.db to a safe location, then rename, mmssms.db-wal to mmsama.db, and reboot. If it didn't work, try the same with mmssms.db-shm. If that doesn't work either, then your sms are lost forever.
I didn't work
Are you sure that there isn't any other way to retrive sms?

Somehow your databases got emptied, and sms aren't stored anywhere else. So no.
The only other way is by having a nandroid backup. You could restore a part of them at least. Do you have one? If not, then you lost all your sms for good.
I understand :crying:
But thank you anyway, much appreciated

I'm confused. What method did you use to back the SMSes up? Do you not remember because you tried a lot of programs?
I didn´t used any programm, I was using DHD with 2.3.5 android version, and it had a option export sms to SD card. That is how I did the backup.
I used to have 2.3.5 until a couple of weeks ago and I don't rermember such an option to store messages on the sd. Anyway you could try with .xml extension...
I remember on my old HTC Aries, when I backed up I was able to open and view using notepad++

That's how I used to backup, then it wouldn't read on these android 4+ roms so I used play store apps to backup now.
My suggestion is try the same Rom you backup-ed and see for a restore button in the messaging app. The HTC backup won't work for the 3rd party backups.

I have 2 clockworkmods on my external sdcard. One is of course clockworkmod and the other i named original clockworkmod. Firstly if i try restore them i get a md5 mismatch and yes i have opened the nandroid.md5 and wiped it, but the eror still occurs. So i dont want them. I keep deleteing them and not even 5 mins later they are back. I copyied everything to my pc and formatted my ext sdcard and copyied everything back but thos 2 directories. And know and god knows how they have came back again. I have disabled samsung link, google drive and all other programs as such. Could it be my gmail accounts. I hate sync and never used it but i synced my gmail accounts just last week. Could this be the problem. Plz any help would be great

Ahh, I see it's You back again
Gmail shouldn't sync anything, so it shouldn't be the reason.
Maybe those files are kept under "emulated/0/" or just in the "0" folder on the sdcard.
Make sure You delete them also (if You have "0" folder).

I will give that a go but I think its my ext sdcard. I have had a another problem, I was at work and came across some damaged goods so I took a good 7 photos of them. I was looking at them for about 15 to 20 mins. a few hours later got back to work and came to show my boss and they were gone. I was thinking wtf so I took a few photos of just anything waited a while check and they also disappeared. I then took a photo and moved it to my internal memory and its fine. I am thinking my ext sdcard is corrupt or got a virus or something. anybody got any ideas or had the same problem ????? I just checked using root browser and found emulated/0 and they are not in there. under emulated I have a "0" directory and a "legacy" directory. both don't have any clockworkmod backups. man this really doing my head in

I think you must be using some sort of unwanted (or wrong configured) program.
Try freezing all of your apps, make a try with with files, defreeze some of the apps and repeat the whole procedure until You find a guilty program.
It takes a lot of time, but it's worth of it.
You can also try fining programs that can be guilty just by checking permissions, which apps are allowed to write on sdcard.
The sdcard can't delete files by itself, you must have some program that does that. Check all of Your apps if the configuration is right, idk. some backup programs, hosting programs and also make a virus check!
I hope You will be able to find it soon.
Hi!
Just updated my HTC One M8 to 5.0.1. I thought I would be able to R/W SdCard finally, but NO!
When I'm asked to grant access, I hit Grant, and then when I select SdCard (external) error pops up with : "Documents has stopped working". I used Solid Explorer (to delete or create folder), ES File Explorer (same), Quickpic (to delete picture). Of course "stock" File Explorer is working fine.
I tried: disabling Docs, G Drive, etc., uninst. updates and nothing helps.
Has someone got this too? Or is it only on my side?
Thanks!

Gutec solution worked really nice.
I have a HTC M8 (Lollipop) and i was fighting to make SD work with no luck ... neither from HTC.
And now a guy comes with one simple step and everything working as it should.
Why HTC or any other company didn't figure out this solution and didn't give directions that solve the problem ..... and Gutec i really wan't to know how you come with this solution?
Anyway thanks a lot
format it as fat32
it's incredible that you format an SD with Android, and still cannot use the card.
Format it as Fat32 and Label as discribed by gutec WORKS!
THANKS!
I've got to say that my SD card is in fact formatted FAT32, without any set label and I don't have any problem writing to it. I can't imagine the drive label being important for anything, unless there is some really weird bug in Android.
thank you so much
So simple. Just label the sd card and problem solved. Didn't figure that out yet, glad you did.

Cannot write to sd card with 3rdparty apps. Except copilot, none are working.
My card has a label, tried formatting with phone and windows pc with no positive result, same problem persists.
what else can I do?
thanks to the post above my problem was fixed. Also its not necessary to format too(i didnt cs mine was already fat32 so i didnt bother). Just adding a label to sd card will do. seems Documents app cannot open the card while its unlabeled

Hi guys. If you did everything and still not able to see the card, you should try some extra steps.
In the "Grant permissions" screen use three dots menu and check "Show SD card" and after that you will be able to see it and selected. This worked for me.

It seems important that it is FAT 32 - if NOT Fat32 then you have to reformat to FAT32 ( I had a 64gb sdxc)

I have the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3. I was on stock and just took the OTA upgrade to Lollipop (N900TUVUFOB6). After doing this, I rooted the phone with CF Auto Root and installed TWRP 2.8.5.0. I have root access fine. I keep my apps backed up from Titanium Backup on my SD card. When I open up Titanium Backup it tells me the directory isn't writable. I am on the latest su binary / supersu and I have tried changing the mount namespace setting with no luck. Is there anything else I could try to fix it?
Did you install the SD card fix app?
I think there is an option on lollipop to authorize other apps to access directories that are not there own. That might be the problem.
I searched and found you need to change a setting in Preferences - Backup folder location. Near the top is Storage Provider. Click and change to Directory provider. Fixed it for me. Never knew that was a setting before!

Thanks so much! I had to pick the option DocumentProvider storage and then select the directory through there. Working fine now.
Sorry. Meant Document provider not Directory provider. ?
Has anyone found a reason why TiBu now thinks the entire directory of dalvik cache is unnecessary when you run the clean up option?
Changing that to DocumentProvider storage solved my problem too sjancura, thanks!
Hi,
I spoke too soon... I am still having problem with using external SD card with titanium backup.
I changed the storage provider to DocumentProvider but I cannot 'save' that selection as it's grayed out - please see the screenshot.
I have tried changing name of ex SD card. At first I used SDFix apps which were able to help with similar problem in KitKat but haven't fixed the issue now in lollipop.
I had the same problem (Running Lollipop and TB) and I got it fixed by using one of the KitKat fixes. The one I used was "SDFix" by "NextApp, Inc." in the google play store.

Hours of frustration brought to an end by that advice ... thanks mate ... you're a legend!
Hi,
I tried running SDFix, having run it in tbe past, prior to finding out this morsel of info on changing DP. However I still can't get it to save that location. Same greyed out directory like previous user posted.
Yeah I found that as well, changed it but could not "save" to that folder location (greyed out). Tried SDFix app, no change. Tried creating a new folder in TB, AND then using ESFile Explorer & neither would allow me to write to the extSD card. Rooted, stock Sprint Lollipop ROM.
I had that issue, worked it out. When you're browsing for a folder with the DocumentProvider select the root of the SD card, then it should close and return to the browser in Titanium Backup. Browse to the sub folder you want, you should be able to click the save button now.
Hi Ghosthree3,
Thanks so much for this. I'm going to give it a shot. My extSD card was used in the past on an earlier version of Android OS, whereby I could write to the extSD card just fine. Consequently there are prior backups on there. As such, I'm wondering if i should mount the phone, copy that folder off, delete that folder on the extSD card and then via TB create a "new" Titanium Backup folder and see if it then allows me to write. Note: I tried mounting the phone to my PC in an effort to create a folder on the extSD card and that method too, prevented me from creating a folder, hence my thought on getting what I have off of the device, and attempting writing a new folder per your directions. I wonder if my PC will allow me to erase that folder.....

Hi s j a n cu r a,
Thank you very much. Someone else posted that, but maybe i'm not selecting it properly. When I select Document Provider, I browse to "Open from SD card", scroll down to the "Titanium Backup" folder, hit "Select" the "Titanium Backups" that are there [at one time I had no issues writing to my EXT SD card], it then says, "Detect!" [External storage] and I select "Everywhere in External Storage". It finds 41 backups there, I select that "External Storage' radio button. That's where I seem to hit a wall. The "Use the current folder" appears to be greyed out. I'm left only with "Cancel". I think there is some deeper issue writing to ExtSD because with File Explorer I can't copy picture files from one folder to the other. That's what is giving me this feeling that something else is going on with write permission. Frustrating to say the least. My only recourse at this point is to use the internal SD, which does work.

Hi, I am a long time a go without a phone number on my Lumia but before that I registered WhatsApp to that number. After that I lost my numer but I keept using WhatsApp.
A few days ago I did a several backups of WhatsApp from the app, to sd card and One Drive. Them I sent my Lumia to repair (without sd card, case and battery). When I recieved I started to install some apps, included WhatsApp. I saw for some apps to restore settings but the problem is:
- The restore backups apps do the backup of the app data folder to a zip file.
- WhatsApp do the backup from the following files and folders:
> db_* folder that contains the next files
· calls.db
· messages.db
· onedrive_manifest.db (in case you do the backup to OneDrive)
· settings.db
> media folder
My intention is to place the db files in the correct path of the WhatsApp folder but the problem is:
The installed location is in C:\Data\PROGRAMS\WINDOWSAPPS\5319275A.WhatsAppBeta_2.17.60.0_arm_cv1g1gvanyjgm
The app data location is in C:\Data\Users\DefApps\APPDATA\Local\Packages\5319275A.WhatsAppBeta_cv1g1gvanyjgm
The both locations have the same folder were we have the next path: \LocalState\settingsv2
Here we have 2 more folders: nv and volatile
Both folders have the same file name: settings.db
My question is, what folder is the correct to copy the files (the same to other files)?
Hope someone can help me. I need to use WhatsApp with the same number for personal reasons.
Thanks.
1. as long as nobody else gets your old number with a new contract that works fine (if you still have a complete valid backup with registration token, which isnt stored on the sd backup imho, nor in the onedrive backup)
2. you need the backup from the phone directly, stored in C:\Data\SharedData\OEM\Public\WhatsApp (to copy that from and to the phone make a shortcut to u:\... instead of c:\...)
you can simply copy it back and its activated etc. since you havent done -> sorry no chance. you are missing the RegToken file from the internal Storagefolder. Without that you cant use a that backup for the old number cause you cant receive the verification sms again on that number
you can't keep files/folders order in case of flashing/resseting. There is uniqe ID for each run with SD card. You did lost it
yes you can! maybe only the internal files (dont know about backups on the sd for example). have done it multiple times when i needed to reset my 920 and even done it now when i migrated my data to the 950. just copied all stuff (means the mentioned whatsapp folder) from the internal storage from the 920 to the internal storage of the 950, installed WA. it recognized all data and took over the regtoken (so no need to resend the verification sms). and thats the problem here -> he hasnt backed up the regtoken and has no access to his old phone number. no way to reactivate whatsapp with that number/backup cause the token is missing
How do you get access to the phone folder's like 'C:\Data\Users\DefApps\APPDATA\Local\Packages\'?
All app I've tried dont allow you to browse here. Also via the USB developer mode I see no way.
