What would be the most cost efficient way to wirelessly stream content such as my mlb.tv subscription from my phone to my tv (It is wifi enabled)?
Ive used apps like imediashare before for other things but i dont think itll work with the mlb at bat app.
thanks!
Only options i can think of off the top of my head are: Using what samsung designed for that specific purpos by using an all share cast dongle (~70$ on amazon) or hooking up a PC to your tv but that's kind of difficult to set up and most of the apps to view your phone from your PC are pretty laggy
Xbox 360 or PS3 if available I'd my suggestion
Have you tried twonky beam? Not sure if it would work but it looks like it might be something like what you need. It streams web videos.

All share cast dongle is your only solution. It works wonderfully too just wish it worked on aosp

Ok so since our TV out doesn't work, is it possible to create an app that uses DLNA to put the Epic screen onto the TV or Computer?
I don't know much at all about formats and conversions, and am generally confused about the complexity in that area, but this doesn't seem too hard an idea to create.
Can it even be done for my computer? use the DLNA/wireless to put my laptop screen on my tv?
Don't think so.
DLNA servers usually just serve up files to a DLNA client. It doesn't change the file in anyway. To sum it up in short - it streams the actual file as if you were reading it locally, but only the file itself - not the output of the file.
Example, if I have an MKV video file hosted on my DLNA server (my PC), my DLNA client on my PlayStation 3 can't play it since it doesn't support MKV even though my PC does.
Think of DLNA as a way to file share content from your phone to your DLNA capable TV. What it does not do is export your mobile screen to your TV.
DLNA stream
I have been doing some testing on my DHD and it seems that its the phone that streams the content through DLNA to the TV. If there was a way to convert the mobile screen output to video stream there might yet be hope.

Allshare thats native is a tad "picky"
Twonky Server mobile(the free one not the pay) in the market however shares files beautifully to DLNA enabled devices.
But as states it's ONLY for sharing files, even with hdmi out you're only gonna get what it wnats, unlike a dsektop where it displays the desktop.
if you wanted to do it find a remote client that lets you "RDP" to the phone and have a computer hooked to the big screen.
theres really no advantage to displaying the desktop of the phone in this way. Can't see why it would even be an option.(or why anyone would want it)
Yes

In linux(X11) i think it could be pretty straight forward, since you should be able to point the dlna TV to a file created by x11 with the output of the screen.. I dont know how the screen capture process is in android, and not at all in windows, but it is possible, though performance may suffer.. Im want to write an app for android with this, but i wont right it atm.

So ...
I know how to use dlna to stream videos pictures and music to play on my tv and I'm not interested in that
WHAT I DO WANT TO KNOW.
Is there a way to stream my phones actual content to my tv over DLNA ? Like I want to be able to come home, switch on dlna , and see my phone's homescreen on my tv and then open up a video game like Final Fantasy 7 and play it. All streamed to my tv of course.
In my opinion that is what would make DLNA awesome.
Everything I search just mentions how to stream my phones content to my tv ...I want to actually mirror my phone.
And don't mention the mhl adapter I have that and it is a hassle ....

Has anyone been able to play a Watch film on their TV through a PS3 or Apple TV? Is this possible? I'm sure I read something about being able to use a PS3 or Apple TV in the same way as a media link.
I am using an app called Skifta which is DLNA certified to push things to my Samsung Smart TV. I've not tried it on my PS3 but I would asume it would work for that also as the PS3 can also use DLNA. Looks and works really well with my Samsung TV though using that App. I can stream content from my HTC One X, from my media server(s) and also content from the internet.
I used to use something called ZappoTV on my iPhone and I know that worked with the Apple TV; I've just checked the Play store and its available on there so you could give that one a try also.
Thanks, I have given it a try but still no connection. I couldn't even get Skifter to find any media on the one x. Decided to buy a micro USB to HDMI, and save the rest of this afternoon!
I expect that even I could have made a connection between the phone and PS3, using a third party app like Skifter or Twonky, I still wouldn't be able to view HTC Watch movies, as they do not show up in the Gallery.
Have you stopped Media Service? Because I haven't any problem finding my movies. Another great app to use DLNA is HomeDia. It links all my devices and PC as media servers and I'm able to see them on PS3 and Samsung ES8000 smart tv

Hi Nightranger, not sure how you would stop media service. I tried Twonky Media, and could see movies shot with the phone but not HTC Watch downloads. Either way I still couldn't get it to talk to my PS3. I have a Synology Diskstation which shows up on the phone and PS3, so I'm guessing that Media Services must be on.
doh!

You need the HTC Media Link HD to stream HTC Watch movies. The Media Link HD box has DRM features added which regular DLNA doesn't have and HTC Watch won't let you do it without this.
Don't know if any asker still needs this, but here goes. I was also quite stumped as to how to stream media from HOX to PS3.
After quite extensive searching high and low on the interjacks, I come to these conclusions/solutions:
1. HTC purposely make it difficult/impossible to simply share media with DLNA clients JUST TO SELL their MediaLink HD.
2. For those who wants to stream their media (videos/pics/music), especially to Playstation 3 (PS3 - [for search engines]) simply download the free SKIFTA from Google Play. Instructions are straight forward, I was playing silly videos and HD trailers off my phone in no time.
Press that little thanks button if this has been helpful Thanks.
I used double twist air play and was able to stream photos to ps3. Don't remember about video...

Does streaming things cost major battery? I mean if you can't stream a whole movie due battery life it is worthless right

is there a particular reason why you dont just play them straight from your ps3?
I put my movies on a memory stick etc and transfer them to the ps3 and play them that way
for files like mkv i just convert them to mp4 and it works fine
I used the "Select Player" function on the player and it works even on Windows media player( sucks) and XBMC it should work for PS3 I think
I am looking to find a good device that's compatible with my 10.1 2014 edition Note, and will stream video, along with screen mirroring if possible, all to my HDTV. I have a 32" Samsung smart TV that does this flawlessly but I want to also be able to do this with my 42" Panasonic Plasma TV (It has USB ports but does not appear to have DLNA or any method of streaming video since it does not have wifi built in.) I know there's the Samsung brand Allshare device, but I've heard quite a bit of negative feedback about it. Ultimately I want something that will be reliable, and will also stream 1080p video. I saw that there are various Miracast devices, but many that I have seen do not have especially great reviews. I saw that the Roku devices can send video to an HDTV but it seems that they only do this with select Android devices, and I wasn't able to find a list of compatible devices on the Roku.com website. Lastly I was also thinking that I could possibly stream video to my Panasonic TV if I got a wifi USB stick, but I'm not sure if this would allow DLNA/video streaming. Any help with finding a device for my tablet that would allow me to stream video to my TV would be most appreciated.

I've the AllShare Cast Hub and if work well with Note 10.1.
Better than using S3 or S4. With them I've a lot of random disconnections.
Unfortunately AllShare Cast Hub stream only at 720p ancd not at 1080p. On the box I can read 1080p, but I've NEVER got this kind of connection with S3, S4 or Note 10.1.
Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely consider the Allshare box, although I may just go with a hard wired MHL2 connection since I really want to get 1080p.
Just found this IOGEAR box that isn't released till 12/20/2013, yet it looks like it may be exactly what I'm looking for! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815290053
Guess I'll have to wait till its released to see how it performs, and if it works well with my tablet.
It's not screen mirroring, but have you checked out Google Chromecast? I don't have one, but it looks promising and may be the simplest and cheapest solution for what you're looking for.
Do you have a Samsung smart tv? I have a 6500 and my s4 and this note 10.1 2014 screen mirrors fine in 1080. It may be the TV you have? If you don't have a Samsung smart TV the the All share hub is likely what you're looking at to achieve your goal.

I tried the Chromecast and wasn't satisfied. On lifejacket there's a good article about the pros and con's http://lifehacker.com/google-chromecast-does-it-deserve-a-place-in-your-livi-945082974
I think a Roku will be a good solution for many people, but if you take time to read about all the miracast products you may find a really good and inexpensive way to do it.

I'm using this little guy: NetGear Push2TV
got mine at Amazon - can't provide the link since I'm too new here.
Works pretty well on any WiDi enabled device: tablet, phone, laptop, etc.

I got the Netgear Push2tv, had it for a few days and returned it. Even with the latest firmware it frequently disconnected. I just got that iOgear box I linked above and it works flawlessly, all in 1080p.
I have been looking for a way to connect my note to my TV. My TV is 4 years old and not smart lol. So this IOGear box just streams files? or does it mirror the tablet on the tv? I use VLC player on my note. Is the playback sluggish or fast enough to watch large files?

I have an older plasma Panasonic that is somewhat "smart" but doesn't have built in wifi. The ioGear will work with just about any tv but I definitely needs an hdmi input, and I believe a usb input. Streaming runs beautifully even when running 1080p video files that are over 2 GB. I use MX player (the free version.)

Does this support full screen sharing of just transmission of movies and pictures like all share. Could I for example share BBC iplayer or a video running inside the Firefox browser?

Screen Mirroring over WiFi-Direct
I got it working with my Note 3, I can connect my Note3 via WiFi Direct to my TV
BUT.....
Is there way to turn off my display of Note 3 ?
I use Screen Standby... takes a little bit of setup, but works well.

Been there done that long time ago like iptv stalker add on etc I don't trust those add on and quality sucks. Thera are lots of iptv apps too with live TV and the quality sucks. Those add on kept my shield TV wake all nite so there is something going on may be using my Internet who knows that's why I stay away from those apps or addon. I also installed kodi for that reason

I have had my eye on this http://www.dlink.com.au/home-solutions/dsm-t100-portable-digital-tv-receiver you can plug your wired TV Arial into it just like a tv and apparently has the HD channels and a recording function, (according to description)
i know it has uk channels but not sure about other country's or if it even works with the shield, would be great if it did and linked in with Google's live channels app for android tv like app intends.
here is a youtube review of it (wont let me embed the video for some reason)
