USB is buggy, need to use ADB over WiFi.
Also Phone Calls are buggy acording to the Thread.
To learn more about the Bugs, check out the Thread of the Rom:

I tested it, and i think it is working pretty Bugless and Smooth (Depends on what you understand under "smooth" xD)
Hi
Thanks for the instructions. I'm going to try this out at the weekend, and wondered if I can ask a couple of questions?
0. Reflash your Flipout with RSD Lite:
does this mean flashing one of the .sbf files, and do I have to use any particular one?
Also, I'm currently on Orange in the UK. Once I've installed the ROM, will it still work, or will I need to change anything to make it work on Orange / UK?
Thanks

Yes, you should reflash a .sbf file if you have modified the System (Root for example).
Im German and dont have any clue about this Orange thing. If it is a Branding like Telekom in Germany, it will (Probaly) debrand it, but im not sure about that. You can do a NANDROID BACKUP in CWM, worked for me for restoration.

This is the best thing that's happened to this device in years. Kudos to everyone involved, now i can actually get some use out of this piece of junk Everything installed smoothly, and i've got the dev thread bookmarked to keep on top of updates.

If you mean the Motorola Flipside, maybe you could just install the Rom on your Device. But im not sure, and i dont think anyone will port this
rom to such old devices. (Suprised that someone got it working on Flipout MB511)
I know no one want's to hear that, but: Buy a new Phone.
Motorola Flipout, Charm, Flipside are Legacy/Low Activity Devices for a reason!
100% functional Formula:
if phone is = Crap/Slow/Ugly/Forcing you to Rage
then = buy=("new Phone")
else = :good:
if phone = New

Ok, I have found a solution, and calls now working Here it is what I did, for other time travellers:
Flash this using RSDLite: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B2TMVyhuQfJ-dkN5N3RhcGVtTnc&export=download
install UniversalAndroot.apk, than Bootstrap.apk. Reboot to recovery, make backup of this stock ROM.
Wipe data/factory reset, install CM7 ROM
Calls working

Well all this is thanks to rdannar, I just take his lastest CM7 rom (CM7 V5) and changed everything back to stock, accelerometer and backlight buttons are working also.
No action snap is installed, to install Fast burst Camera (zoom and autofocus) go to this thread to download it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272161
I used 2nd init defy and remember to follow the next (always used) steps:
1) copy the rom to your sdcard
2) boot into 2nd init defy -> recovery -> stable recovery
3) wipe data/factory reset
4) wipe cache partition
5) advance -> wipe dalvik cache
6) install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard
7) reboot
To take photos use Fast Burst Camera.
Do not use Defy Baseband Switcher if your 3G is working!!
I'm liking it so far!
Is there any way future ones (at least once you get to "production" runs) could NOT include the old swype? Sort of a pain to remove it to install Swype beta...
great rom! at the moment after two days of use I have not found still no defect. (before I used the rom v2 of rdannar). thanks

Ok I got the camera to preview and it clicks if i use the settings that match the stock Bravo but all it saves as a file is a black screen. Can somebody please give me the stock 2.2.1 sbf file decompiled and changed to a .zip or something.
For something at least I have fast burst camera up and working. Now that I think, I need to get source codes. All of the codes for 2.2.1 camera for bravo, and the codes that are in the gingerbread CM7 rom.

Thanks! But I'll have to unzip it and see what it all is. I'm not caring about deodexed files I just want something that I can look at on my computer just like the CM7 mods that are zipped and archived. Easier to look at for hours.
Umm, all it gave me was a file called external.tar. What do I do with it? took me two hours to download.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*
Ok this is what i'm looking for. Froyo 2.2.1 for the bravo, not in .sbf but in the way it would be if we were using it like the CM7 rom. Opened and in the order just like I can see it on my phone with Super Manager in File Explorer rooted mode. And need to know if some of us want CM7 WITH or WITHOUT BLUR.
I'll just see if I can make two versions. One with and one without so no fighting. But i will need testers.

But I think bravox rom is like that. What do you exactly mean?
------------------------------------------------------------------
About external.tar, I havent worked with that before, no codes for me by now, I have just changed files and zipped roms.
Im here to try, my two bravos are fine to test everything.
For me it doesnt matter about having blur or not, but I prefer GINGERBLUR , anyway we need a fully working gingerbread rom. (everthing will come after it)
What I need.
Ok. I need to have the regular 2.2.1 for the bravo in the exact same way as if we downloaded the CM7 rom that is 2.3.4. The regular 2.2.1 that I have now is just the .sbf file for use with RSD Light just in case I really screw up my phone. Just like windows restore............ Anywho i'm working on right now building the stock 2.2.1 bravo file system by using a stock factory bravo and copying all of the root files onto the SD card to put them on my computer. I'll be going through all of the crap and looking at the CM7 roms to find out what is diffrent. I need somebody who can zip the stuff so it can be loaded with 2ndint. This will then allow me to put this newish rom into beta. Or if someone can find or give me the program that zips everything for 2ndint to use. I will attach sometime what I pulled off of my Bravo for a better understanding of what I want.

Hi I have the "m" model as well and I haven't had much luck with the majority of roms made for the euro version of our phone. Darkshado had made a ROM called ArpegGioMod ROM that is made for the m series and works quite well. I use his ROM and I'm quite happy with it versus the stock ROM.
I flashed cyanogenmod 7.1 on my phone using Odin and by leaving out the phone package which seemed to work pretty well, but after a day my phone could not connect to the network to make phone calls or use 3g so I flashed back.
Let me know how it works for you. Thanks.

Gio s5560m Stuck data mode deactivated.
Hello all,
I bought a Gio M about a month ago good phone and happy so far. Problem I've had is 3g is OFF ---> power button- Phone Options menu - Network Data mode is deactivated. Push to turn ON and stays deactivated. Go into system, network, and yes data packets is checked on.
Phone is stock no tweaks no extras, did a clear cache and reset phone to OE spent 2 hours with tech support on Virgin canada and Samsung. Virgin blames phone, Samsung Blames virgin 3g network.
My question is could the phone have a bad firmware flash from factory it came with 2.3.4
I am going to go back to Best buy next weekend and see if I can test with another gio. If 3g works on test unit then I'll send this one in for repairs I guess.
Any other suggestions?
Did you try another Virgin SIM? That's one thing I'd look into.
Also if you're in the Montreal area or in the GTA (I'm not sure where else) there are Samsung Service Centres you could take this to.
Show up in person and have them diagnose the problem. You might even be able to wait while they work on it if you have a bit of spare time.
2.3.4 is the proper version number for the stock ROM on the 5660M. No updates so far.
Gio s5560m no 3g
Have not tried another virgin sim. I do have a spare that came with the phone spose I could try it although its sealed up in the packaging still.
Live in northern Alberta and the nearest city with virgin phone sales is 2hrs away hence the wait to get fixed. Surprise surprise Samsung did not phone me back today like they said they would either.
Found one other post on here of a fellow in Norway with no 3g can't enable or disable but no answers on his post to the problem. I'll wait till the weekend and go to the city and see if Bestbuy has an activated sim they can put in and try.
Thanks for the help and I will update when I get it figured out.
i had the same connection problems, try going back to your stock ROM and take note of your APN settings, once you flash back to CM you'll notice the rom made several changes!
changing the APN settings back to stock, fixed any connection issues i had
hope i helped! (i'm using CM7.2 RC1 B1 KANG on my BELL 5660M)

Problem is I am using the stock rom, the rom that came with the phone is the one giving the problems. Sending the phone back for "repairs" and we will see what comes of it.
I'll keep you all updated.

I'm new here and I tried to read all the information to get a good idea around flashing the S5660M. I also have the bell version.
I'm going to put down the steps, if anybody can give me pointers or correct any mistakes. That'd be great, I want to put CM7.1 or 7.2, whichever one is stable enough for all functionality to work. Speed is not an issue as I am giving this phone to my grandpa who needs a chinese language display system which Samsung didn't include in the original ROM.
1. Root phone
2. Install ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Reboot into recovery mode, make backup using Nandroid? I heard there's other tools that can be used. I'd like to backup the original ROM.
4. Download the desired CM from recovery mode onto SD card
5. Delete cache and wipe data
6. Choose the new ROM to be flashed and wait
I think that's the general idea, is there any key steps I am missing?
Sorry again for asking but I want to make sure I got the correct steps for S5660M.

Hy guys!
MY LIFE:
It's my first topic. I'm french and I bought in october a new phone, the SAMSUNG Gio. I'm happy, this phone is good, but my operator installed *** apps running everyday and uninstallable! So I tryed to root my phone with a program (Ginberbreack) and with the XDA tutorial (Update.zip) but without success (I have SuperUser but it's all). I have Android 2.3.3 with kernel [email protected]#I
MY QUESTIONS:
1. I'd like to install the better power safer ROOM you know for the Gio, and with no bugs (very important!) or additional programs. A very "clean" ROOM with optimizations (if possible). I searched and I found CryogenMod 7.2 (very popular) or GioPro. But I'd like to have opinions and nothing's better than feedbacks!
2. If I change my ROOM, I'll be administrator or not? What method to become root?
Ty everyone
I would go for CynanogenMod 9 once stable is released
CM7.2 for now and CM9 after the Developers upload a satble version
Try Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1, fast and stable.
I prefer CM9 but it isn't complete now. I waiting for stable version
Did you try SuperOneClick to root your stock ROM?

Ok so, I install CM7.2 (CyanogenMod), but do you know the release date of CM9? And CM7.2, it's a very light and optimizated ROM or you have new programs or fonctionalities included?

NEVER ask for ETA (=release date) for Cyanogenmod.
Im prefering Cyanogenmod 7.2 too, but when Cyanogenmod 9 RC1 is out you should use it instead!

This is awesome! Ty guys, I install this new rom this night (in France). Just a minut: is it a One package or I have to install another package I want like boot? And if I have to install à new boot, wich one?
-> I'd like to change the bootloader after installation so if the boot loader don't give me this possibility, it's not good
Ok guys there is a big problem.
I've just installed "px-cwm-v2.zip" form SD card, wipe my data and... install "CM7.7.2-RC-patch-1.zip"...
But it's not what I had to make. I had to install "update-cm-7.2.0-RC...zip"... :S...
Now my phone is stuck at the android screen and I don't know the method to access to the SD card and copy the right CM7.2 to install it in Recovery mod :S
Please, help me and sorry for the double post!
did you tried to put your phone in recovery mode? (when phone is turned off, press home button + power button)
if u can do that successfully, then connect the phone to pc, go to 'mounts and storage', then chose "mount usb storage"
the content of the sd card should apear in "my computer". and from there, you can copy the right files needed to flash
i'm loving CM7.2 RC1 B1 KANG on my 5660M.
i tried more than a couple other ROMs, and honestly cyanogen is my fav
Well,
This is my first post, and while I'm not on the exact same situation as the OP I'm close enough to it so I won't start a new thread (will I ever after watching that "noob video from xda...?!).
So I'm from Portugal, I have a 2.3.4 Vodafone branded Gio and I have it rooted and with clockworkmod installed (px-cmw-V2.zip), all this seems to be working fine, despite I find odd that the backups the wcm produces are only 16Mb (8mb boot.img + 8Mb recovery.img)?... Does this means that if I f*** up later and I restore my phone with cwm these 16mb have all the original rom inside?... kinda hard to believe, is it even normal? I ask this mainly because there's some weird errors on the cwm recovery screen like:
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Well, maybe that's normal I dunno.
As the OP the main reason I want to flash to another rom that not the vodafone one is because of the stupid vodafone apps and because I want to have a way to install more apps without the constant problem of no space on the internal phone memory.
On a side question, when and if I install another rom, the contents on the SD-card will still be recognized by that new rom? More precisely, will my progress on games like Cut the rope and games alike be lost with no possible recovery? And is there a better way, or a simple way, to make a full ISO backup of all the phone and SD contents? I thought cwm would allow me that, but with 16Mb backups it's not doing that for sure...
Thanks in advance, about the rom, I think I'll install the SimpliGio Plus and work from there.
Is it true that cm 7.2 still is cooping with a lot of bugs? (Radio, backlight, no incoming calls). Otherwise im also going to flash!
Anyone got a good tutorial site?

I have used both 7.1 and 7.2. Radio was working way better in 7.2. In 7.1, all you could hear was noise. I don't know if there's been any recent fixes for that. I received incoming calls on 7.2 without any problem. You better try that out. If you find problems in it, you can go back any time.

I've tried numerous ROMs on my wife's phone with no luck on getting it to work. It freezes up every time after you try to go to the page after the filters. She won't leave me alone about it and I'm getting desperate here. Please help me out.

Not sure about the rom as I flashed 3 or 4 last night in an attempt to find one that worked but the recovery is Clockwork mod. It either says it's not compatible with the device on GB ROMs or it gets stuck on the "processing" screen.

Which Roms? and i suggest installing SmelkusMod Recovery, its easy, just download the bootloader version (verify the MD5), and rename the file to PC36IMG.zip, put on sd card and reboot into bootloader, and it asks to install new PC36IMG and hit yes and it installs. easy. after that, the way you install new roms is easy too. Boot to new Recovery, wipe cache & dalvik , boot, cache, data, system (i like using the combo wipe called 'SuperWipe' which does boot, cache, data and system 3 times), then flash new rom and reboot.
then as for the gps issue that i was having, it was because i'm using a JB rom.

No problem bud..... Happy wife = Happy life (edit-angryITman beat me to that)
So....
This sounds awesome, but I'm wondering: what's different about your version that makes it work?
I am having the same problem. I will say that I used a Sense 1.0 based ROM for about ten minutes today (sooo ooooold), and it worked fine then. But any "I actually want this" ROM fails with Instagram. I want to try your solution, but not before I know why it works.
It's an older version. The up to date, most recent version obviously breaks, and since it 'worked before' the best option is to 'use what you had before' so I downloaded the previous version and tested it out....... It works. That's it. Just an older version. Nothing fancy bout it.

Because of the 8MP camera .. image size is to big for instagram to process... drop it down to 2MP instead and it will work for instagram 4.1
I would appreciate some guidance as to what rom to install.
This UK version of the phone had become increasingly slow. I have just rooted it but do not know what to do next.
I had intended to install a custom rom and see it rejuvinated, especially for things like Sat Nav. I also want to get rid of some of the Samsung software that is taking up memory space and slowing the phone down. She I try to update the software to KitKat before installing a custom rom?

You could try this ROM, works great for me:
http://xda.mister-freeze.eu/XDA-files/ace2nutzer/CM11/codina/
Instructions that could help could be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159250

Alternatively, install custom kernels to improve experience:

I find the 101 pages to the help topic overwhelming, especially as it is solidly highly technical. Do you happen to know of a step by step set of instructions that I can follow with ease.
Sorry but some basic points I need clarifying:
You referred me to a rom that works great for you and yet suggest that a custom kernel will improve performance. How do I decide which one to go for? At heart I do not understand the difference between the two.
I had a look at the codina link and notice I need to know what file system is being run on my Ace 2. I tried gparted on my desktop and it did not pickup the android phone as a drive. How do I work out what drive format is being used?

Some searching in those threads couldn't hurt you. It's just one search box away.

- From recovery install temp. cwm.6028 (http://d-h.st/oZD)
- wipe data
- mounts and storages
- format system
- then CM 11 from 18/11 ext4 (link before)
- power off
- boot in cwm
- flash pico uni-gapps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942)
- flash latest ext4 kernel (optional)
- reboot system

I use both. So, in my case, I install the ROM first, and then I install the kernel (instructions above). Note that the kernel part is optional, but should give you better experience.

You could check this by using adb. But if you never did anything before, than it is most likely to be ext4 (default for our Ace2).
Thank you for your help. I have just gone to get the temp. cwm.6028 (http://d-h.st/oZD) and it keeps failing to download. Is the link working? Do you have another one?
I notice that there are two download buttons. The plain download button causes a warning that I am going to a web forgery. The download now button fails to download for me.

For some reason (newest) FireFox downloads it but deletes it right away... This file is save! Use another browser (Chrome for instance) to download... De-activate Download Manager and use Download Now button... Not the other one...
I downloaded it using Flareget and sent it to my desktop and that worked as a download. The downloaded file is called update.zip. Your reply in the last message suggested to me that it should be called "temp. cwm.6028" (http://d-h.st/oZD). I ask in case someone has substituted another file!

And it's a save file (as I alrady wrote) - I looks right now that FF and Chrome dont want to download it...
I think some dump users reported this file to often! Only because they don't konw how to download corretly from Dev Host...
I hope this is clear now....
