[Q] Confusion related to flashing process/hboot - HTC One X

Hey guys!
I intend to flash a custom rom on my international HOX. However, it seems to be quite tricky, and whatsmore, some guides are more confusing than helpful. I'm referring to several statements about hboot-versions. Therefore the following questions:
- Is it still necessary to update hboot, as the official Jelly Bean updates are out now?
- How can I check which hboot-version I'm on?
Thanks for answering!
Dellocatus

You can check the hboot in the bootloader, when it is higher or equal to 1.31 you can flash any Rom in here.
You enter the bootloader by pressing the volume down + power button together as long as it takes for the phone to reboot into the bootloader.

Hi!
I have a question.my hox has h3g_001 did number,I am on 3.14 base with hboot1.39.
Can I flash any rom based on 3.18-3.19 or I need to do a firmware update?
Thanks

No need for firmware update.

Even if you would like to ..... you can't because the 1.39 hboot is the highest possible at the moment.

Hi.
Thanks guys.
im on stock at the moment, and if I do a nandroid backup, and then install a 3.18 based rom,I can go back to my nandroid?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Yes you can always return to your nandroid backup

Sol, i can confirm that you are in safe hands here, I was a total n00b until a few weeks ago,
im now causing less trouble in here after the help i have received

[Q] Question about HBOOT

Hi guys.
Quick question.
I've been successfully flashing my HOX for a while now and I seem to be running 1.12 HBOOT.
I've noticed on the forums that this seems to be quite old. Is there any issues with running an older HBOOT?
I am currently waiting on a way to upgrade to a Jelly Bean sense ROM but I'm stuck due to my CID (VODAP002) not being compatible.
Is it an easy process to upgrade the HBOOT? Would you recommend it ?
Thanks
1.12 isn't old, its the HBOOT for ICS 4.0.4
You cannot install JB HBOOTs like 1.33, 1.36 because you are carrier branded and need to wait for your carrier to update.

You have 0.96 because you were on base 1.29 or earlier and flashed custom ROM. Don't see any advantages besides bigger writing in bootloader screen
since there is a thread here about pretty much a similar topic to what im wanting to know:
should I update my hboot from 0.43 to 1.12 or 1.21? what advantages would i get in doing so? better battery life? better performance? updating Hboot seems like a rather lengthy proceedure and i cant find any info on what i would even get from doing so anyway so i havent bothered until now.
any info be appreciated

What are the steps I'll need to take when my CID becomes JB compatible?
If I'd of known there would of been an issue with certain CIDs I would of waited for Jelly Bean via OTA and not flashed my phone
what is d latest hboot version?

fastboot flash recovery recovery.zip

[Q] No GPS signal CM nightly

Hi,
Ive got a one x thats had the bootloader unlocked and running with the TeamWin recovery on CyanogenMod official nightlies (21st to be exact).
I cannot get the GPS to function. In maps it will tell me its unable to determine my location and in other apps such as "GPS Test" it shows no info. Ive tried flushing the dalvik cache, repairing permissions and installing the fix detailed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595800.
Any help would be appreciated
(If GPS is disabled in CM nightlies what steps can I take to re enable it?)
Thanks,
-beachedazd
Hi, I'm having the same problems with mine and with the same nightly... does your GPS work on any other ROM?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Are you on one of the higher JB hboots ?
It's a common problem that the aosp/aokp roms have GPS trouble on the JB hboots !

S-OFF !!! You lucky bastard !!! Well as far as i know it has to do with the boot.img and/or repacking it. Try to search for that in the thread ...there must be more info about it there !
I should work just fine, I'm on that hboot myself.
Then a bad flash maybe
So you think I should reflash boot.img ?

Do you think updating hboot would fix it?

I really can't give the answer to that ! I have no experience with CM roms...sorry
No, do not update hboot. It will break your gps for sure.
Try reflashing rom with wipe/factory reset option in recovery.
Can you get cellular and/or wifi signal?

I am so so stupid...i read the instructions but i did it...installing the latest hboot....
I was on 0.94.000...just perfect no problems...
Now i have 1.39,i am on 20121223 cm10 nightly for endeavoru with your modded-boot.img....
Something strange!with sygic i am ok...gps is working... but with copilot nothing is working!
Is there any way to downgrade???
I am so disapointed....i am searching for my old HD2(legend phone)
No way to downgrade, sorry.
It is strange that it works with some apps, must be the new new hboot. (1.39)
But it will be all sorted out when htc releases its kernel source.
Sent from my HTC One X
I tried this....
with modded-boot.img i use Nibble Automated Kernel Repack Beta and any boot that i want.... so i can use every rom that i want...but i have to repack the boot.img.... not from the rom... first the modded-boot.img and then the boot.img of the rom you want to use...so you have a new boot.img that you can use!!!

[Q] HOX bricked after updating HBOOT

I started out with an unlocked and unrooted Vodafone France branded HOX (CID VODAP203) with S-ON running stock ICS.
Foolishly, I assumed I needed to update the HBOOT in order to receive the official Jellybean upgrade. So I downloaded the appropriate firmware.zip from here and flashed it using fastboot. That procedure completed successfully, and the phone rebooted.
Since then, it has been stuck at the Beats Audio screen, which is what I suppose is called a "bootloop".
I tried using the correct RUU from htcruu.com, but that throws up an error about the wrong HBOOT version. I can't reproduce the message exactly; there is insufficient charge to try again.
I had HBOOT 0.43 before; after flashing, I have 1.36. Is there any way out of the bootloop? I don't mind wiping the phone.
Any help at all will be greatly appreciated! :cyclops:

Got it.
The phone had gotten locked again, that's why trying to flash anything resulted in an error. Feeling very stupid now.
Got the unlock code from HTCDev, unlocked phone, flashed boot.img and recovery.img from rom.zip retrieved from stock RUU.
Phone is now back to normal.
Thanks a lot!
Super.

Err.. I'm actually back to ICS; couldn't find the stock JB ROM.
Now I'm just being greedy, but would you perhaps know where I might find the JB RUU for my CID? The OTA was released in November, but it hasn't been added to the collection here on xda.
y dont you just flash stock recovery and update to JB since the ota is out as you said ?

I'm not getting the JB OTA when I force it to check for updates. I only get an update from ICS 4.03 to 4.04.
I guess I'll just need to keep trying everyday

Why just send email to HTC with question from where to find appropriate RUU because you did not receive an ota?
Or send it to your local services center to upgrade it?

The commands to find your CID are found in almost every thread involving a question about JB updating. My preference is to use;
fastboot getvar all
Official updates from HTC exist only for their ROM (should make sense right...pun intended). So it should never be possible to correctly install an HTC update using some other developer's ROM. Hence, you need to flash back to a stock rom AND flash back to the stock recovery. Once your phone appears to be running the required HTC software, HTC updates should install correctly.
As for your question about flashing JB manually. Well, on a basic level, JB is an HTC thing. They roll it out, region to region, based on how phones are configured for specific carriers (identified by their CID). If JB OTA update has not been issued for you CID, then that's a provider issue (who ever your telcom is). So technically, there would be no HTC stock JB ROM that exists yet for your CID. Other Telcos in your country might already be rolling it out, but if your Telco hasn't done so yet, then you must wait .
You can absolutely flash things intended for use by a different CID, but your phone will crap out and you'll spending 4 days worth of reboots, posts, charging to above 30%, fastboot commands, adb commands, HTC driver installs, RUU installs, and nandroid backup run-arounds getting right back to where you probably are now :silly:. Since you are waiting for the OTA update anyway, why not try it and learn all about it hands-on.....or wait. To each his own
Fot those who are still waiting for jb update for htc_j15, check in settings for the update. It worked for me

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10 not working

Hey guys, I'm a complete newbie on all roms stuff, but I would really like the cyanogenmod for my international htc one x. For some reason, however, when my friend tried to download it for me, he said that there was a problem and that it wouldn't work for my phone. Naturally, I was a bit upset, and even though he got me the renovate rom, it doesn't quite feel right. Please can someone help me get cyanogenmod, or atleast explain why I can't get it. Any help is welcome, thanks
If you have the higher JB hboot version you need a modified boot.img for CM10 to run !
You can download the modified boot.img in this thread

Hold the power button and the volume - button together until it reboots all the way to the bootloader.....don't let go of the buttons until you are in. It gives the info there
