I've been working on this and searching for two weeks now and have found nothing that matches our exact problem or fixes it. I've been rooting/flashing phones for years so I'm not new to this but this is definitely a new problem for me... I'm helping a friend flash Cyanogenmod on his Note 2 and have been working on it solid for the past 2 days to no avail.
Phone: T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-T889)
Problem: No APN in Cyanogenmod, unable to create one/save, unable to restore APN from backed up APN from stock rom.
Thoughts: I believe that the problem lies in the fact that I can't save the APN which may have to do with the way the newer rom deals with APN's or with the way that it interfaces with the SIM card.
Currently I have the phone flashed with CWM touch and I have backup's of the stock rom which is rooted and also of Cyanogenmod 10.1 for N7100. This is the only ROM i've been able to get flashed on the phone and it seems that this is what rom manager tells you to install so I think this is the right one. I've also seen other DIY's that tell you to use the t0lte rom but that one fails the device check before flashing.
Stock Rom: When we have the stock rom flashed, everything works fine. There is a valid APN and we have no problems.
CyanogenMod: When we flash back to this rom or flash from an image, there is no cell signal. When you check the APN's there are none. We are unable to manually create an APN. If you enter the info, press menu button and click save, it does not error but does not save the APN. We are also unable to restore the APN with APN Backup & Restore. I've set the restore app as a system app and ignore the ICS warning as you are supposed to do and it appears to be writing the APN data but afterwards when you check, there is still no APN.
The only thing I have left is to go figure out how to check the logs after I try to save the APN. I'm not sure how to do this yet so I'm going to go learn how to do that now but I'm hoping someone might have some insight into this issue before I have to go down that road...
If I've left out any useful information please let me know.
Thanks in advance for any help!!! I've used this community forum for many years but this will be one of my first posts... I'm truly stumped.
Also, this may be important. I started reading into modems and such thinking that the modem may not be compatible or may not be able to interface with the sim card and I found that when you check the baseband version in Cyanogenmod, it says Unknown.
Maybe this is becuase it is an i7100 ROM on a T889 device?
When you flash a Cyanogenmod ROM, does it flash the appropriate modem with it? Also, when you back up your rom in CWM, does that backup/restore the modem?

Ok, good to know. And it always seems to happen this way but I think I've solved the problem. Regarding 7105 vs 7100 however, not sure I've seen the 7105, nor have I seen any diy's that instruct you to use that rom on the tmobile T889. Is that a variant or something?
I was reading more on the wiki for cyanogenmod and saw someone post the same problem where the t0lte rom wouldn't flash through CWM. They suggested flashing TWRP, which I did and it worked perfectly. We have cell signal and everything!
So if you're having the same issue flashing the t0lte Cyanogenmod 10.1 to a Galaxy Note 2 (T-Mobile) try flashing through TWRP recover instead of CWM.

The only ROMS that will work on the TMO variant are ROMS based on the T889 source or the 7105 source. The CM is based on the 7105 source.

Very good to know. Thanks for the quick replies and help!!
We realized 4g wasn't working and attempted flashing a newer modem which I'm sure helped but didn't fix the 4g problem. Flashing a newer nightly did however resolve the issue... Hopefully that info will help someone else...
I recently had the same problem in my recently owned Galaxy S2 Skyrocket after trying the first Rom which is Cyanogenmod 10.2 Stable with UCMC1 radio.
I figured that the problem had something to do with my provider, so i sorted it just putting it in airplane mode before adding the APN. Theres one little catch, you cant access the Mobile Settings button while you are in airplane more, so you just open the APN list window before putting it in airplane mode via the quick launch menu,, then the apn will save with no problem.
I hope this is useful, ch33rz!:silly:

FWIW, I am on Telus and have flashed many iterations of this ROM and have had no problems with APNs / LTE / HSPA+.
In fact for the last week or so an LTE option has been available for Canadian users which makes this ROM the best IMO.
EDIT: you could always make a nandroid backup of you current setup and try AOKP. If something messes up just reload your nandroid.

Hello Naruto! I am a happy AOKP-Rogers user, no problem whatsoever and I have been updating to the latest rom pretty much every day. Just 2 recommendations, get Titanium Back up Pro and ROM Manager. They will make your life sooo easy
3G works well for me
Cheers from Canada!

3G working perfectly for me.. try reflashing or do all your cache wipes and dalvik cache wipes... it should work.
I am having trouble understanding my problem. I have been on a 4.1.1 ROM for the longest time and I decided to take the plunge to 4.2.
I have attempted to install 2 seperate ROMs but I can only get 3G service on my phone. I did install the ROMs correctly (wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, let phone settle, etc). I also attempted to change my network modes. Finally, I tried, on the recommendation of someone from a ROM thread, to try and download a big file that would "kick-start" my 4G service but to no avail. This has happened across 2 ROMs; this is why I am asking for some insight here instead of the ROM threads directly.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Useful Info:
Stock Kernel
4.1.1 ROM I was using here - Full 4G coverage
First 4.2 ROM I tried here
Second 4.2 ROM I tried here
Final Note: my highest internet speed tests appear to be 7.56 mb/s down & 1.55 mb/s up on the 4.2 ROM.

Ya know, I actually searched through the forums for a few hours this morning, and I was hesitant to post something because I was almost positive that someone like you would jump all over me for not searching.
Also, where might one find the information that says going from a 4.1.1 ROM to a 4.2.1 ROM will require a new modem to get 4G service? Please, show me the way because apparently I don't know how to search or read.
Let's not start a pissing match. The answer is correct.
How were you supposed to know you needed a new modem? There is no way to know, but many people have had this issue recently. So, searching for the right thing, I guess
Your second rom you tried has a large Q&A Thread I made http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36890819#post36890819 that itsmikeramsay put in the OP and in my thread I cover that it is something known and what to do.
and in the last few pages of the Illusion thread it is discussed lol.
So you know, your coverage is no different then before, it just doesn't show a "4g" or "H+"
searched "no 4g" in the illusion thread and this is what I got... a whole bunch of posts lol http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=132106205

Fair enough! You're completely right; I did not search correctly. My apologies
I did, however, use the recommended Team Sonic Modem Flasher, flashed the modem that said "(latest)" at the end of it, and I still have no 4G icon. Do I need to flash the ABSOLUTE most recent modem listed here as the absolute latest?

No worries, and I have never had the issue so... I am going off but what I've read people report. They say they flashed the latest radio/modem and it was fixed. Also, the only time H+ will show is when data is being transferred (used) during Idle it shows 3g.

Thanks! That was what I was looking for. I figured out that you have to flash the LATEST modem on the page; you cannot use the Team Sonic flasher because it does not have the latest modems loaded into it.
DocHoliday made the Sonic flasher obsolete. That big sticky thread has everything.
Just curious for those of you guys on custom roms (AOSP for ex) that is not TouchWiz, is there something that needs to be done when T-Mobile activates LTE in a week or 2? I know there was some firmware patches going around to enable LTE, but that's for the stock rom. I don't have a Note2 yet, but I'm thinking about getting it soon since the Galaxy S3 doesn't have LTE Radio. I'm thinking of using AOSP rom ASAP after I get it, but one of the reasons to swap to a Note 2 is LTE radio.
Does something need to be flashed, like a new modem or will the LTE just work? Or do we have to wait for the AOSP roms to have LTE implemented?

Thanks can I download straight through my phone? Or do I need to connect to my computer? Also Each time I change rom I need to update the modem correct? Thanks for your help sir
Radio is flashed just like a kernel. Go in CWM or TWRP, wipe cache / dalvik, and flash. My original concern was that some roms may not have LTE options embeded, thus got me wondering. Though playing around with LiquidSmooth on my GS3, I just realized they do have LTE settings in the Mobile Network Settings > Preferred Network Mode.

Thanks for that info I didn't mean to still your thread. I just learned to put new roms on my phone. I have never done a modem or kernerl by itself. So i was just trying to learn. I will definitely look for more info on how to do that

So, I'm not sure what to do, and searching around hasn't been a whole lot of help just yet, either that or I just don't know what to search for.
I want to run ditto note 3 on my tmobile galaxy note 2, it is running on the older 4.1.2 bootloader, but on 4.3
So weeks ago, I installed android 4.3 by the instructions on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2564430
Attempting to install ditto note 3, I grabbed the latest dn3 rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504016
I also downloaded the modem from the a fore mentioned thread as well as Devil2-2.0.4-t0lte-DUAL-20131212
I installed the rom, rebooted, installed the modem and kernal, rebooted, and it won't find tmobile in the least.
I go to any type of connection settings for mobile networks and it claims that there is no simcard.
Any help would be appreciated.
Set the APNs. I would also get the newer Devil Kernel 2.3.2 a lot more stable..

As I said, I couldn't access any mobile network settings, all it did was give me an error and refuse to go further, so no apn settings.
Thanks for the tip about the devil kernel, I'll grab the new one.
I figured it out, at least for myself, it was a matter of using the at&t LTE port of ditto note 3, flashing the tmobile modem, and then the devils kernel.
So I'm running on 4.1.2 and I know I don't need 4.3 just need to flash Dr.ketans Wi-Fi fix... So just to make sure....
All I would need is the At&t version, my modem of course and devil kernel? I'm running in T-Mobile.
Hadn't been over there in quite a while, but the N7105 forums have some sweet ROMs if you're looking for a change that should work fine on our phones...
Currently running "CM Remix" which has everything but the kitchen sink for an AOSP rom, and so far seems very smooth and stable

They should all be safe to flash. Same hardware on the internal LTE variant.
The build.prop and APNs may vary slightly, but many of the ROMs in this forum are exactly the same as their international versions anyway

By checking for a modem in the zip as the n7105 modem isn't compatible with AT&T or t-mobile. If modem is in the zip I usually just replace with proper modem for your carrier.

No since it's AT&T you will need an AT&T modem in the phone as any other modem will cause an unknown baseband.

Got it, thanks!
Still running the ROM I mentioned in the OP, and it has too many features and too few flaws (none!) for me to try any other!
New build made yesterday - gonna try that, though
BTW, didn't have to change anything to get it optimized for the ATT model- even the APNs were all set up (unless maybe I restored settings that I wasn't aware of)...
1st Nov 2014 (ver 3.0.5.0 STABLE Fix)
Kernel : bundled with latest agni kernel ( Boeffla Sound version with new wifi module)
Update SuperSu to ver 2.16
native support to F2FS (no need to flash any convertor, native support F2FS partition of System. Internal data and Cache partition)
Fixed ART mode * (1 st Nov 2014)

Should be fine! Just back up as you always would with TWRP and make sure you backup the modem as well. That way you'll always have one backed up if you need it just in case...
Yep, as long a modem isn't included in the zip (which it *typically* isn't in the case of AOSP based roms), you're good to go.
I personally don't even flash t0lteatt roms when they're available and instead use their t0lte counterparts, as the t0lte versions are sometimes more likely to be updated more often (and in some cases the t0lteatt device tree has been abandoned entirely!)
And if anyone's wanting to build a rom from source, while we're on the topic of AOSP roms, the t0lte tree is the way to go as far as the Galaxy Note 2 LTE models are concerned.

What reminded me to check the international forum was when I went to deactivate my old phones in Google Play Music, I noticed most of them were listed as an N7105- and all of the ROMs were downloaded from this forum anyway...
I was wondering about trying Roms from that forum too. I kept seeing posts where someone said something about a DN4 Rom. So I looked it up and downloaded..........only to find that it is not one of the Roms that works on our phone.......as of yet. It did flash and start up, but before I could make it past the welcome screen, I got a bunch of pop-ups about various items "quit working." And they kept coming back. And then I had the unknown baseband with no signal.................basically it just doesn't work. Damn shame too, cause it looked so nice. But this did make me look at the other Roms and I will be trying a few of them. I must say though, DN4 had my mouth watering for the GN4 experience on my 2.
