I think there are a few questions before answering this. What Samsung TV, I don't think all will be compatible. The newer Samsung Smart TVs work and yes there is a Samsung TV app in the market...works great
if it can run Android apps the yes!
If it can't go get a Logitech REVUE of $100

was about to answer but you beat me haha.
Absolutly true, you'll need Dlna or wifi of some sort on the tv.
Also look into the peel remote

Not sure if this will help, but if you have cable/dish most companies have remote apps, i'm using the FIOS remote app.

What do you currently use? Any app that streams will have to buffer at some point, especially if the signal in your area isn't strong. I use Netflix, HBO Go and YouTube.
TV portal has worked pretty well for me. You can download the APK from their Facebook here:
https://www.facebook.com/TVPortalApp
Using XBMC with 1 channel and Icefilms. Any stream will buffer. Depends on the source providing the stream and your connection.

You can get some from the Play Store, Amazon, Netflix and Hulu. Also if you have ROKU, I believe there is an app for that too. Yes those are all paid, but it is a place to start. Also, most networks (at least in the US) have either an app or way to view shows on/from them.
I do hope that you are not asking about torrent sites and how to use them. If you are, then Google is your friend and please do not post such on XDA.
I'm doing Netflix hulu and the occasional red box instead of cable right now, saving a bloody fortune streaming media to my smart tv from my note

Xbmc then add navix plug in and you will get all tv series, movies etc.
I'm looking for apps. .. Nothing I need to buy hardware for. .. I live in Canada so Hulo etc don't work well here. Thanks.

So you want completely free, "latest" releases and current tv series all through an app.... Let me know if you find anything because I've stuck my head in that hole and there's no turtle to be found.

There should be a decent streaming video app somewhere

I haven't heard of any that are free... Why wouldn't Netflix work well in Canada, the Internet is the Internet no matter where you are.

The only thing you pay for is 5:00 for the Android client and possibly the iPhone client, but it is an iPhone... who cares about those
