Hey guys I've spent the last half hour on Google and here trying to find a solution for a problem I'm having but with no luck. I have a belt holster for my s3 and at least twice a day I'm accidentally powering my phone off while it's in the case. I'm trying to find a way to disable the power options or if necessary the entire power button when the lock screen is on (I am rooted). I have found instructions for disabling the home button but nothing for the power button. I also found instructions for disabling the power button on the note 2 but am not sure if it will work and don't want to risk soft briking the phone with note 2 instructions. I did see a post for widgetlocker but don't want to use it. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Dont install anything from note 2 but u can try instructions and see what goes on. Samsung phones has some similarity anyway.
I just wonder how you going to switch on phon when there is no power button

I only want the power off option disabled when the lock screen is off. Both my orig droid and Tbolt had this by default. Essentially all it does is prevents the phone from accidentally being turned off in your pocket or holder. I'm not saying disable the power button completely.

Hey guys I was wondering if there was a simple way to solve this problem.
For some reason when i press the power key or just open up my phone my screen wont come on. I have to pay around with it a few times to actually make the screen come on. Has any1 else had this issue? If so how did you fix it?
Im using standard firmware, noting custom on my phone at all.
I don't get it man, you say you do press the power button and it doesn't come on? when I first got my Tmo TP2, I was baffled at how to get it on, but just pressing the power button at the top once was the only way to do it for me..maybe you're holding it down to long when you press? I'm not sure..did you do the upgrade to Tmo's official 6.5??

What about when you pull the stylus out when the screen is off? Same delay? If so, then the source of the issue is related to the phone's response, not the switch method (top button, slide switch, stylus switch).
Im using the updated window 6.5 and im not holding the power button to long. IDK whats wrong with it. As for when i pull the stylus out, i never really used that method to make my screen come on. I just tried it adn it worked. but im not sure if it will continue to work. I will use just that method for hear on out to see.

Yeah, I never really use it that way much (if ever)...but that's probably the best way for now to try to isolate the issue
Ive tried the stylus thing for a while now and like the power button it doesnt work all the time. Im not sure if the phone is just broke what.
Install process manager and list what processes and applications you are running...
Does anyone know how to get the HTC One X out of Safe Mode? I tried turning off the phone and turning it back on...nothing and also the down button doesn't work at all, maybe a part of the safe mode.
Try running ruu in bootloader

when I get to bootloader only the up volume button works, I can get to my home screen on the phone, it just has that "safe mode" in the lower left hand corner and it wont allow 3rd pty apps to run at all. I downloaded the stock ruu from xda to my laptop. going to give that a shot when i get home. I just thought maybe there was a button combo to fix it.
Have you tried holding the power button for 10 seconds (or however long it is) to simulate a battery pull.
Other than that, maybe try turning on with both volume down + volume up held as it boots up?

this may be your clue. Sounds like a hardware fault with the vol+ button stuck down on boot.
Either that or your battery died while installing something.
Fixed
Pressing and holding the power button until the three lighted buttons at the bottom flaedh solved the issue for me. I also had a good press and release of the volume buttons first but presume it was the hard reset that did it as I'd tried messing with the buttons already.

I hope it is merely the volume key being stuck for some weird reason, fixing it is pretty straightforward: release the cover and carefully detach the screen. The volume buttons along with the power button will fall off. Try replacing them or perhaps turning the volume keys.
If the keys are not the cause you'd better hope you didn't void warranty.

OK, so my little 9 year old brother got the Acer Iconia Tablet A100 so he wouldnt feel so left out that everyone else in the household has a tablet but not him, well he thought he would be smart and turn off the wifi and place a lock on it. Well he forgot the lock code and after many attempts he has to login with his google credentials, but the problem is that the wifi is off so it wont fix anything. So im trying to format it for him, I can get to the recovery screen, but only the volume buttons will work and the no other button will let me confirm the selection. Dose anyone know what i can do?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwyGSwmzVtM
1. Place the rotation lock switch in the up position
2. Press and hold the Volume down button, which is located farthest from the rotation lock
3. With the Volume down button held, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds then release it. Continue holding the Volume down button.
4. Once the tablet vibrates, switch the rotation lock on and off repeatedly while still holding the Volume down button.
5 Release the Volume down button and stop switching the rotation lock once the "Erasing Userdata..." message appears in the upper left corner of the screen
6. Once the factory reset has been completed your tablet will load to the Welcome screen.
7 Your Factory Data Reset has completed now follow the onscreen steps to setup your tablet.

Hard reset the tablet, you'll lose everything, but it will revert to factory condition.
Power off the tablet
Hold Volume + (the one furthest from the power button/ lock switch, right if holding landscape)
While holding Volume + press and hold the Power button
Once it turns on, holding the Volume +, release Power and wiggle the lock switch up and down a few times.
Screen will then say its formatting or resetting or whatever it says.
After this completes, it may reboot, or power off, or continue booting into android, whatever it does, just let it go into android
It should greet you with the Welcome screen for setup.
Resume playing with it.
Edit: Ah I was gonna link a youtube video but Romman0 beat me to it! I must be getting slow in my old age.

I was editing a bunch trying to get the [tube] code to work (to no avail) and added text instructions.

Can I do a hard-reset once I have unlocked bootloader & installed a custom recovery? Is there a way to go back to stock recovery?

You can still hard reset yes but it only erases user data nothing else.
If you want to go back to stock use one of the update.zip methods in vaches stock rom thread. It'll go back to stock recovery. If you want just the stock recovery there's a stock recovery.IMG around somewhere I'll see if I can find it.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
I have a sort of weird issue. I've got a rooted evo4g with an unlocked bootloader running alter rom. I had some issues with it a while back, so I ran fix permissions and cleared the caches through amon-ra. when I did that, all hell broke loose. my power button stopped working and the volume button took over to wake up the screen. Not only does the power button not work when booted anymore, it won't even work in recovery or in the bootloader. the volume buttons will navigate in recovery, but not in bootloader.
I would like to do a nandroid backup so I can reflash my phone and then just restore my texts, call logs, etc on a clean flash...but since I can't select any menu options in recovery I can't do a nandroid backup.
I have cwm touch for my nexus s 4g, but I don't see one for evo 4g....only standard evo. is that one the same? can I still use it on an evo4g? I know some phones are not interchangeable with recovery on variants...like nexus s, for example hs two recoveries...one for 3g, one for 4g.
also, does anyone have any idea what may have caused the buttons to go haywire like this? I've never seen anything like it. I mean, sure buttons die. All moving parts fail at some point...it's in their nature....but switching control to another hw button???? That jusy makes my head hurt to think about how it could have happened!! lol
Download smelkusmod recovery. It has touch scrolling and you can scroll, select and Deselect with the haptic buttons.
Your power button issue could be a hardware failure. Possibly one of the connectors came undone rendering the power button useless.

even though death by soap has twice as many posts but the same number of thanks as you, he is right on about this.
smelkus is a great recovery and is, essentially, touch screen. what do you do if your phone turns completely off, and are you a little familar with adb?

hmmm...good question. It's actually my sister's phone. I'm also interested in knowing how she turns it back on...I'll definitely ask her that. when I turned it off I had to pull the battery and I quickly re-inserted it so it would trigger a start-up, but I'm not sure about how she turns it on if it's been off for a while.
...and yes, I'm novice-level with adb. I know adb, fastboot, etc...enough to get by, at least I have a black belt in google-fu, too...so anything I don't understand google teaches me lol
(btw, my thank you's came from the ns4g section. I posted the first working jb rom for my device and everyone clicked thanks for it....I'm no star dev or anything to say the least )
****
I just texted her...she says it always auto boots when the battery is re-inserted as long as it has a charge. it almost sounds like the power button is just stuck in a pressed position...but wouldn't I notice that when android is booted by the power control menu always being displayed (which I can't even get to display if I do press the button)???
****
I just tested with my ns4g by holding down the power button all the way through a reboot, until after the phone FULLY booted....no power menu popped up.
what are the odds the button is just stuck in a pressed position?? anyone want to take bets? I'm gonna take it apart tonight and see if that's what it is unless someone has any other ideas.

just saw this thread. and seeing as how the phone auto-boots when the battery is put in, it does sound like the power button is stuck in the 'down' position. i recently went through a similar thing with the power button, and i opened up the phone and just put the button back in place. does the button acutally LOOK like it's depressed ( ...hehe..sorry, i dont know how else to ask that..) like..is the button not protruding out like it should? if you're down for opening the phone up (which is surprisingly easy if you have the proper little screw-drivers) then it MIGHT be an easy fix. i had never done it before, and it really was easy. you can put that black-belt to use for some easy video tutorials. but, please procede with caution.

I can't say if it looks pressed since it's not currently in front of me...I know exactly what you mean, though. The inner workings of the button get stuck, and the outer rubber piece will be sort of caved in instead of sticking out like it should.
I build gaming computers as a side-hobby. I'm sure a little disassembly won't be too difficult, as long as I'm not removing any of the guts and I can just get to it by opening the case, I should be ok....too much more and I run into issues when things are that tightly packed into a case.
(reading a tear-down tut now )
Awesome! It should be a piece of cake for you, especially with your video game background. Cool. Let me know how it goes.

Not possible. With the power completely off.... The capacitive keys won't work.
Your options can be found in some custom roms, or kernels for waking the device tho.
There's sweep to wake, found in some kernels.
Or volume button to wake. Found in some roms. You'd have to read the opening posts or ask in those threads to see which have those options.
If your device is powered off tho.... I'm not sure if pulling the battery and putting it back in starts the phone or not.... Been awhile.
Either way... You're in for lots of inconvenience. Personally... I'd phone shop. Used phones are a cheap option.... The Moto G or E are very cheap... Brand new. The S2 is pretty old now.... Paying to have it repaired is an option... But the money is probably better spent towards an updated phone.
Just my opinion. ?
Well I managed to remap the search button as the power button but you are right it does not work when the phone is in sleep.I am using Shadow ROM and it has the volume wake option so I use the volume buttons to wake the phone and the search button to put it to sleep. It's a little inconvenient but it works. The only problem I could face would be that if the phone somehow hangs and I have to turn it off by taking out the battery then it will not turn on without plugging in the charger.I just hope this situation does not come.
I think I will run this S2 for a few months and then move on to some other phone.Right now I am thinking of a Windows phone such as Lumia.
Can you also tell your opinion about that?
Thanks for the reply.

See my signature. No windows phones. Lol
I know the one Lumia had an awesome camera... 1020 or something. But mediocre reviews on the rest of the phone. And using that camera apparently destroys the battery life. Lol
Also, windows "apps" have a long way to go. Compared to Apple and Android anyway.
But... To each their own. ?

I hate windows 8 anything (lol) especially their phones. Apple iPhone is ehh, but better than windows. Everyone seems to love their OnePlus One's and the LG G3.
