Slow WiFi Download Speeds? - Sony Xperia ZL

Doing some comparisons between ZL and my old X10 by downloading apps from the Play Store while connected to the same WiFi network. The X10 is downloading everything about 5x faster.. Same goes for loading/streaming flash videos in Dolphin browser (maybe that's a 4.1 issue). Anyone else noticing slow WiFi speeds compared to other Xperias/phones?

Download speedtest app and post results.

Browsing is quite fast but downloads are dreadfully slow.

Thats a bit interesting that your Upload is WAY higher than your download. Have you tried restarting your modem and router?

Set router mode from mixed to G only to resolve the bad download speeds on ZL. What's interesting is the x10 has no issues with mixed mode.

Then you need to get a NEW ROUTER.
The Xperia x10 is a Wireless G ONLY Device.
The Xperia ZL is Wireless N
Meaning you setting your router to Wireless G your Speeds if anything would be less, Wireless N is a LOT faster than Wireless G

Still using old a/b/g wireless card in my laptop but otherwise I agree

Just curious if anyone wants to try the same test because I've noticed the issue with a few networks/routers now..
Confirm your router is running mixed (a/b/g/n) mode
Run a speed test on ZL
Change router to use G mode only
Rerun ZL speed test
In my case DL speed is 20x faster.
Why does older WiFi method produce such better results?

Wifi wireless N slow speeds when web browsing

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with this little issue I'm having. I'm running stock EB13 Froyo on my Epic currently. The issue I'm having is that for whatever reason my web browsing speeds while I'm at my house are pretty slow. I've downloaded the speedtest ap and ran 3 seperate tests last night with the following results:
D/L 14.01 Mbps U/L 1.89 Mbps
D/L 14.73 Mbps U/L 1.88 Mbps
D/L 14.13 Mbps U/L 1.82 Mbps
Needless to say, pretty solid speeds. For whatever reason though, when I'm web browsing it seems to crawl along while loading pages. My router is a Linksys WRT610N and I'm broadcasting in B/G/N. My wife's laptop runs on wireless N without any issues, and I've also got a Linksys wireless N gaming router that I've got hooked up to my WDTV that I'm able to stream 1080p DTS files without any hiccups.
Whenever I'm web browsing outside of the house, whether it be 3G/4G or Wifi the pages load up much faster, so I know it's some sort of setting that I need to configure on my home router. Anybody have any ideas?
I'm using Dolphin Browser HD if that helps at all. Thanks in advance for any help or insight!
Same problem except I'm also getting page could not be displayed. This new update has made WiFi virtually unusable. Either it doesn't work or it's slow.
What GHz band are your routers broadcasting in?
my phone does the same thing as well. I get alot of page cannot be displayed as well.

The 610N is dual-band, but the Epic only supports 2.4ghz.

I have been getting tons of this crap too. What happened to everything working? I feel like its a roll of the dice every time I browse

I have a netgear router and only broadcast wireless N at 2.4 ghz. I'm sure with you broadcastin multiple routers you are getting interference. Also I re boot router once a week to make sure everything is synced up nicely. I'm a black ops gamer.

Encryption type is sometimes a big issue with devices. Also router channel. Since speedtest shows good speed it seems smaller packets with browsing is issue... likely having many retries

did any one ever get settings on the 610N to there liking?

I echo the question. Since the OP is connecting his Epic to the 610N, we can assume it is using one of the 2.4GHz channels. Is the gaming router also 2.4GHZ?
There are only 3 non-overlapping 2.4 GHz channels (1, 6, 11) The others overlap with these 3.
If the OPs routers are using channels 4 & 6, for example, they would definitely interfere with each other. You also need to be concerned with strong signals from neighbors interfering.
Yes, I am a wireless engineer
One thing I have noticed. Is that if utorrent is runing on the LAN (wired) the Epic does not work vary good. Its not that the torrents are hogging all the bandwith. I had it throttled to 100KB max connections was 50 I tryed 40 45 44 I have it at 35 right now.

I found a FIX & its a NO BRAINER do a 30/30/30 HARD RESET

Mobile speedtest

I've got the speedtest.net broadband app on my SGS2. When I had my 10mb virgin media connection on my PC, I was getting 9.5mb wi-fi download speed on the phone's speedtest app when the phone is right next to my PC. VM have now switched me over to 60mb on my PC and the phone is now giving me 15.9mb wi-fi with speedtest. Is that the maximum the phone can do via wi-fi or should it be capable of closer to 60mb? Or am I meant to switch off wi-fi and go to wi-fi direct?
I've had close to 40 on mine are you using their superhub by anychance?

Hi matey, yes I am, it was just installed this morning. Took a while for my 10mb speed to actually switchover to 60mb.
Are you using normal wi-fi or wi-fi direct?
Lots of problems with those superhubs squire.. it's recommended if possible to set it up in modem mode and use your own router. Im just on normal wifi at the moment nothing special hub is on modem mode got my router set up pretty standard after much research on the virgin forums mind! It's worth having a look there for configurations but beware there is hundreds of posters complaining Also i did notice that various s2 modems determine the speed of your broadband through your wifi and i use the kh3 as i find it the quickest of all the ones i've tested.

Hmm, interesting. How do I switch it to modem mode? I can setup my router again like I did with my previous VM cable modem and use the wi-fi from my own router if the superhub wi-fi is not up to the job. Having said that, I just did some wi-fi speed tests between my PC and laptop. Downloads speeds vary between 49 and 60mb, and one site reported my upload speed, but all the others couldn't read the upload speed.
What is the kh3 exactly?
Wow. In my country, 10Mbps is only by fibre... Average 3g connection is only 2Mbps

Apologies for late reply squire. If your speedtests are reporting good speeds at your laptop then your hub sounds like its working ok so good news there However if you wanted to boot into modem mode you can access the hub by typing http://192.168.0.1 into your ie search bar and logging in with the standard username - admin and pass wich is set at -changeme these can be changed from within.. once switched to modem mode the address changes to http://192.168.0.100.
The KH3 is a modem for the S2 which seems to work very well for me you can read a bit more about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656005 page 3 has a direct download. It is worth trying a few different ones though as whats great for one maybe not so for another! Hope this helps.
Thanks Juan, great info. Yes, download speeds to laptop are great, but all but one of the speed test sites are not able to report my upload speed. They report them fine on my desktop though, and that's connected via ethernet cable. I suppose it might be the superhub or possibly my laptop causing the error. But anyway, since this a phone forum, I'm probably going too much off topic.

Another Wifi issue

I'm having a really strange issue with my wifi which doesn't seem to be touched on here through searching.
Along with dropouts on the 5GHz band, I seem to only get about 10Mbps download and 30Mbps upload (either 2.4 or 5). I tried 2.4 on another router and the same result with slow download. I have a 80/30Mbps connection an no other devices are having issues with either router (Cisco E4200 and Actiontec Fibre). The ping is also really high when doing a speedtest. I tried all the router settings I could think of and even re-flashed a different Tomato firmware on the E4200.
Any ideas? I'm thinking of re-flashing a stock image to see if it might a bad wifi driver or something?
I'm just running unrooted 4.3 JSS15Q updated automatically.
Thanks.
WiFi signal strength poor.

I have a "stock" Nexus 7 2013 and have been testing for the past week. WiFi in short sucks on my device. I used inSSIDer to test and to compare with my Nexus 4 and laptop. I can not get more than 10 feet from a router before it is in the dirt. I will try to attach my test results, get the app and see what you get..
There definitely something wrong with the Wi-Fi, it's as though the system is throttling it

Wi-Fi Link Speed 5GHz - anyone seen over 72Mbps?

When connecting to a 5GHz wireless network, has anyone ever gotten a Link Speed (tap the wireless network in Wi-Fi to see it) over 72Mbps?
I am sure I have set my router up right (40Mhz), but I still can't get the LG OG over 72Mbps. I think it should go to 150Mbps, unless there is a hardware limitation.

WIFI speeds when bluetooth on/off

So I got my 5x last week (comming from N5) and I noticed that websites and apps such as twitter and facebook load very slow over wifi. I did a little research and rooted my phone multiple speedtests and figured out that there is some issue where wifi speeds are slow but if you turn bluetooth on they speed up. so i tested this and its true. it does not seem to affect speedtests but it does speed up normal browsing and app performance a lot. i noticed with bluetooth off im getting about (5-6Mb/s) and with bluetooth on im getting around 50-60Mb/s (my connection is 60Mb/s).
my question is does anybody know whats going on here? And is there a way of fixing it?
I dont have any issues with my wifi reception or wifi speeds. No change with BT on or off. On the contrary my wifi speeds and reception are the best I had with with N5X than with any device before. I have two Huawei routers, 20Mbps connection and both are on 2,5GHz bands.

HI All!
I have also the same problem, but when WiFI& BT working togheter - there is no issue.....Normally, I am connected Huawei E5372 ( mobile router ). Today I connected my Nexus 5x to another router and unexpectedly...problem's gone!
It looks like Nexus 5x's radio have some compatibilty issues with some routers.
I hope Google will find&fix this bug ASAP!

Yes I also tried switching routers and it seems to resolve the issue. So I think you might be right in thinking the 5x having issues with some router radios
