Everyone's aware of froyd, chronos etc since they're actively being developed by people here but I've been using CM6 nightlies since they started being released and they work great! Music controls for lockscreen and a nice configurable power control widget have appeared in the recent builds. I don't even mind the lack of a changelog, more fun working it out for yourself
So, does anyone else use them? Have a look here: http://mirror.kanged.net/cm/nightly/hero/
:O i didnt know there was still work going into CM6 for Hero. Ive been checking one Github Commits page, there were no updates for a while and assumed ppl had given up!
out of curiosity, whos developing those nightlies?
I'm not sure - it's possible i suppose that the new features are just CM6 bits which happen to work ok and no-one's really working towards making it work better on the hero but lox should be back on the case in a couple of weeks and it's no more broken than the other roms....
Do we need to wipe for these, or can we flash them over the current alpha?
Is the camera working in this ROM?..

no, trust me you'll know when froyo gets a rom with camera working
[edit] actually, it kinda does... the preview only seems to update when something else is moving though, so for example if you press menu, it will work while the menu animation is going on, also auto focus actually seemed to work. So you can get a half-useful camera if you spam menu constantly or rotate the phone like mad. [edit]
The camera doesn't work right but it doesn't work the same way every time I know i can take photos, I just can't see what I'm taking photos of....
I've flashed each nightly over the previous one all the way back and had no issues, just a dalvik wipe each re-flash.

Exciting news! I was beginning to lose hope that the CM6 Alpha build would ever make it out of Alpha.
For those that didn't see it, Lox tweeted this morning with that update.
https://twitter.com/LoxDev
where can I find google apps for this?
no market??
yeah, you miss things 'cause you need to install google apps
I just don't know where to download
on feeyo's website on froyo 2.2 is a link with google apps

just not sure if you can flash them over this one..
don't know wich ones are included either, but it's worth a shot

I stopped flashing them when I found zero differences in them between builds that were 3 or 4 days apart.
I'm happy they're adding little things still, but the changes I see in cronos and fusion (in particular) are far more dramatic and useful than what I saw in the nightlies from maxisma et al.
The nightlies were the first, and originally the best (and only) froyo. I loved the original test0 build, it was so solid and fast, but with lots of broken bits.
However with the new cronos from yesterday and fusion as an alternative, and froyd of course which hasn't changed in a while but is always solid, fairly quick and runs well... I'd trust those over nightlies any day.
Nightlies aren't meant for mass use or stability - any nightly could suddenly break things. I know they're pretty solid now but it's because thy're not doing significant things either, adding little widgets etc is nice but not really amazing or anything.
I'll stick with Cronos which I'll bet you performs faster in gpu results.

that is all exactly the same with all froyo roms on the hero.
so if anything is thinking "hey, well in that case I'll flash the nightly so I can at least get SOME previews and some camera operation", it's exactly as with froyd, fusion and cronos. occasional previews, autofocus that works then makes it out of focus again before taking the pic, some crashing of the phone, some gps getting stuck on with camera magic, zero video recording.
For people who think of changing...

I've been using the nightly builds, and like it a lot. I've requested changelogs though, but sadly I still haven't got any response on that matter. I don't notice that much differences between the nightly builds, but a few things I noticed lately:
1) browser doesn't FC when closing the last tab anymore
2) music controls on the lockscreen (provided by koush for CM6)
Would be great if we could keep track on changes in this thread. I love changelogs ;-)
opera mini has stopped working for me over the last few days which has made me realise how slow the stock browser is... might have to do something about it.
edit: opera working again in latest nightly
Hi,
I wonder if i should switch from CM7 to ICS/Andromadus.
is Andromadus ready for exeryday use yet? (i don't mind a few bugs, glitches or even a freeze a week. But i need a working phone)
how does it compare to CM7? (battery life, performance)
is CM9 worth a try? (there is no official build or is there?)
i've tried these three roms and know i've Andromadus beta 3
cyano 9 has got a lot of bugs and make a lot of freeze (with beta 3 i've got 3 freeze in 6 hours)
the battery with Andro goes well, nothing special but the performance are excellent
you have to try it

I think my battery has been lasting less since I flashed andro. Anyways I think it's the best rom out, so I'll keep staying with it and its test builds...

I believe yes, it is certainly ready for everyday use. I haven't gotten many glitches/freezes since beta 2 (even then a glitch or reboot might happen once a week max). Pretty much everything works (mms, camera has no preview glitch, etc).

IMO it's an upgrade feature wise. Many system apps and functions are just more polished IMO (contacts, dialer with google voice integration, etc). Battery life is noticeably worse than CM7 but I am still able to get through a day with no issues (my CM7 battery life ranged from 28-36 hours while Andromadus seems to be more like 19-28 depending on my usage).

Andromadus merges nearly everything from CyanogenMod's ICS branch (I think). This is apparent in the system settings such as lock screen customizations, notification bar toggles, etc. YES, it's worth a try!!

Cyanogen himself has a desire z so we'll get a official build when HTC stops dragging there feet and releases the desire hd kernel source.
That aside I too was a little iffy about flashing Androdamus being that there were a lot of bugs in the earlier beta's, So I waited a few months I'm glad that I did its good enuff to be used as a daily driver now. Depending on your battery (I bought a htc extended one over a month ago) the life will vary on heavy usage I get about 4 to 5 hrs, On Moderate I get 8 plus.
Andromadus is a HUGE upgrade from CM7 not only is it a newer version of Android but everything is more organized as far as settings and features go. Flash it if u don't like it you can always go back. . .
I stuck with CM6 until a week ago, tried CM9.
(totally skipped GB).
I flashed the CM9 and Andro ROMs.
I stuck with Andro since the camera actually worked...
So far - way less battery life, laggier than CM6 (our phones don't have the HP needed it's snappy enough for everyday use, it's just... you know, it's not like a dual core 1.4GHz phone). Lots of little bugs (missed notifications? can't use google voice / gtalk voice, graphical glitches sometimes, crashing programs, hanging) but if you only use a few apps and browse simple sites / check news it's not so bad.
Since you're on XDA it's almost safe to assume this won't phase you too much. It's not "THAT" bad, but it is definitely not like a commercial release yet. Many many things being worked out BUT it's definitely "usable".
I'm still using it It's just very annoying to have to update reimport contacts etc when new versions of the ROM come out. (I don't use contact sync). It's also annoying because of the app crashes or things that "don't work" like instagram etc. However, it looks way better than froyo!
If all your looking for is pretty, just use gingerbread with an ics theme

What are you missing from them to be a daily driver? I've had zero issues on my CM9 build and you can find two options in the development thread that are extremely stable.
The only thing not working with ICS is the stock camcorder to my knowledge, but third party apps still work if you need it.

I can't get mlb at bat to play mlb.tv on both DInc and Nook Color running CM9. Not a location issues, it tries but says Error-Can not play video. All other video seems to work.
Can't see any other issues with CM9, runs ok but maybe a little slower than CM7.
Depends what your standards for a daily driver are. If you mean a phone you can use to make calls, use some apps, without a lot of hassle, then yeah, they're daily drivers. If you want perfection, no glitches or bugs ever, then no.
The camcorder is the biggest issue for me (I was running Evervolv, but they're all built on the same base). Yeah, the camcorder kind of works, but playback is broken, and it's not nearly as smooth as stock. Also, I find that after a while (a day or two), things just start to get laggy. Not awful, but it doesn't fly like it does on stock. The graphics (especially the home screens and the app drawer) are actually way smoother on ICS than on stock, but it takes longer to actually get your apps opened and running. I'm currently rockin' Ice Cream Senseless with Holo Launcher. ( I also spent some time using Touch of Blue, I liked it a lot, but the 2am reboots kept making me miss my alarm clock and be late for work...) My current setup gives me 95% of what I liked about ICS, and it's very snappy and extremely stable. No doubt I'll be back to craving Ice Cream Sandwich (or Jelly Bean - lol) in another week or so, but I always end up coming back to this one.
Smoothness is the biggest issue, IMO.

I ran drk.hd's CM a9 for a while and it worked well except for the known video camera issue. The only reason I changed is because I got flash happy.
I went to mamarley's CM9 w/linearo and it is running very smooth (still no stock video camera). Although, I had to use the ics incredikernel w/HWA because mamarley's kernel was not communicating with my touch screen.

I've been using the Linaro optimized CM9 ROM with the included Mamarley kernel.
The only issue I've run into is a problem with the bluetooth connecting to my car and not being able to play the call audio through the car speakers. I "think" they're working on a fix for it.

is your's a amoled or slcd? I ended up having to do the same thing and I am just curious.
I've been on MIUI v4 since May and it's been very solid with the exception that Netflix doesn't work for me. It plays about 2 seconds of sound (no video) and then just a black screen. Going forward or backward in the video doesn't do anything to help it pick back up. MIUI GB worked great with Netflix previous to the ICS build. I thought maybe it was HWA related, but I've tried a few different kernels and haven't had any luck. Youtube plays just fine.
I am going to flash cm9 in a moment to see if Netflix works there.
edit: Flashed cm9 -- still the same issue with Netflix. Plays sound for about 2 seconds, then stops. Anyone else with this problem?

I think it's a problem related to the camcorder not working. I'm no Android programmer, but I'd bet it's because of a codec issue. Shame that barely any ROMs support a working camcorder.
Have you tried Evervolv 2.2.0p3? I hear that ROM has a working camcorder, but haven't tested it myself.
drk.hd CM9a9 with Chad/Tiny Incredikernel HWA
Working great as a daily driver, camcorder/netflix/youtube (occasionally) dont work.
Im very happy with it otherwise.
I just updated my LGOG with spleef's AOKP 9/08 rom (4.3), and while some issues were fixed (i.e., camera focus, finally!), some new issues came up:
Colors seem washed out; not by much, but noticeably so.
Camera only goes to 8 MP, also no HDR (may be an issue with the GApps I flashed)
Kernel crash when recording video. (also may be GApps issue)
I guess I can live with the colors issue, since it might just be my eyes playing tricks on me. Hopefully this is just me flashing the wrong GApps.
Btw, I have gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip.
Any help is greatly appreciated:laugh:
Yeah I'm working on it my man, the Camera is a weird one cause I'm using same sources in all but only aokp build with 8mp... the video stood in thinking is related to the hardware qcom sources they are being changed and updated daily.... Only advice I can offer is to try to be patient... these 4.3 ROMs are in early stages so as they progress things will be added/removed, fixed/broken, but you can rest assured these bugs will be worked out eventually.... I use these gapps
http://db.tt/3liRIaze...try them next time you do a fresh flash ... sorry for new issues I know they are an inconvenience but with everyone working together like we do they will be squashed

Yeah, I'm currently downloading a 9/05 build of spleef's Carbon ROM. I backed up everything last night also, so if all else fails, I can just revert to that old AOKP backup.
Ok, so I have the Carbon rom installed now, and I tried to flash my data (apps, etc.) back using TWRP. So I did, and stuff kept crashing left and right. I wiped and reflashed Carbon, and everythings fine. Is it not possible to restore my apps if I switched from AOKP to Carbon?

Apps yes system apps no system data no some apps data no id wait though for today's carbon it has several major fixes... Well worth waiting for... Lol, aokp source hasn't updated in two days ( the parts we use at least) but when I build it tonight I'm going to make sure those sabre fixes are in there I've never restored with twrp though I use titanium for my apps
So I updated the Carbon rom to the 9/09 one. After a day of use, there were no glitches, force-closes, crashes... pretty much flawless :good: I actually like it so much that I think I'll stick with your Carbon (over AOKP) for a while.
EDIT: I noticed that HDR isn't in the default camera application, and the HDR in the Focal camera app didn't apply HDR to the picture. Would it be possible for it to be added in? It worked well enough in 4.2.

Hi friends!
I've been around the forums the past few days and noticed several Android 5.0 lollipop roms for our device. I've tried out a few of them and have been very impressed with how good they are. So I'd like to ask you guys, what are your experiences with any of these Lollipop Roms? Is there any you prefer? What are any bugs you've come across? Is there any advice you'd like to give on flashing or using these roms?
I think this could be a great way to gather our thoughts and keep track of how development is going.
Thanks!
I am eagerly waiting to make one of these roms my daily. Flash every nightly of the cm12 and play around for about an hour but then nandroid back. Not that many issues but still seem buggy and things that i use daily like the IR blaster dont work. I find it amazing how fast the devs were able to get us 5.0 roms so quick! And almost fully functional to! Maybe you can list the roms? To my knowledge the only 5.0 roms iv seen are 2 cm12s and a 5.0 pac.

I am currently using the CM-12-Unofficial by PhantomPhreak53 and here are my thoughts so far:
I clean flashed the 11/21 build after formatting data (I know this is not required or necessary) and a wipe. With a clean slate, it worked very well with the exception of NFC, double tap to wake, video recording and the resolution was off. Double tap to wake was fixed by editing a file, resolution was fixed with build prop, and I didn't need NFC or video so it was fine.
I dirty flashed the 11/23 build and NFC has been fixed. The video recording still doesn't work and the error "can't connect to camera" pops up after you try. The 11/23 build also fixed double tap to wake, added privacy settings, and fixed the resolution. Some people have noticed battery drain, but I get just about the same I got with stock. I will get about 3-4 hours of SoT with roughly 12-15 hours off the charger. This is all LTE on T-Mobile. Overall, I think 11/23 is good enough for a daily and I am currently using these "nightlies" as my dailies. There are some reports of crashing, but I haven't had any so far.

I was running the Pac Rom build for a few days, but it seems the developer has switched to a nexus 6 and stopped further development. Pac Rom worked extremely well for me, the only issue I ran into was Documents force closing. I switched to the CM12 (11/24) by Phantomphreak53 today. Hopefully it holds up as well as Pac. Phantomphreak53 has been doing an excellent job with updates almost everyday. I'll check in again after spending some more time with this rom. Thanks for the input everybody!
I tried CM12 11/19 and 11/22, but ended up going back to a 4.4.4 rom because of battery life issues (namely NFC service using up my battery), video issues (opening a video in snapchat caused the phone to crash), and some other various instabilities. Is the video issue fixed in 11/24?

It looks like they are working on the video issue, or they changed something because now I don't get a force close but the video freezes and you have to reboot.
As for battery, I would try clean flashing a new ROM, maybe even the 11/25, because I have no misc or NFC battery issues. NFC did show up on the 11/23 rom, but it was very low and I got about the same battery life as I got from CM-11 and stock. Let's see if 11/25 fixes it for good.
EDIT: Scratch that. Taking a video still causes the camera apps to crash. Nothing has changed there.

I'd much rather have the app crash than have to reboot. I guess i'll have to check out 11/25.

I must have done something to cause the reboot. Every time I have tried since it just crashes. I haven't had any reboot issues at all on any of the roms, and I am currently on 11/25. I apologize if my post was confusing.

Things get a bit funky with these roms sometimes. The other day I lost all audio playback on my phone for absolutely no reason. I kept rebooting, but still no sound. I suggest you get everything working as best as you can and make a recovery from it. That way if things get wacky you can just restore and have everything back to how it was.

That's probably a good idea. I have seen some inconsistencies between devices as well. Some people have weird battery drain while others don't, some have problems with AUX and others don't etc. I wonder how much is the ROM, how much was how it was flashed and how much was related to different apps and settings. So far I have had a great experience though, so no complaints here.
I'm guessing none of these lollipop roms have wifi calling?

Go read any single one of the lollipop threads and that question will be answered for you. Literally, any single one of them.
Every other post asks that same question. Gets frustrating even going through the threads anymore. Every other post mentions the video not working too. It even states in the CM12 OP by phantom that the video doesn't work. It always helps to read the entire thread before even flashing the ROM. That way when you flash it and stuff doesn't work you really have no one to blame but yourself. If you use the video camera a lot, just don't flash the ROM. That way when you try and use the video camera and it crashes, you won't go straight back to the thread and complain or mention it doesn't work. The moderators are gonna start going through and clearing all the repeat posts. They shouldn't have to if you just do your research people. That is all.

No rom not based on t-mobile stock will have wifi calling, it is baked in low level. However, if you have a Google voice number and you integrate it with hangouts you can make a call over data with hangouts, if you're on wifi then boom, wifi calling. Can't be done with your carrier number though.
I've tried all three. Was hesitant to try PhantonPhreak53's build but I finally did and haven't left. Updates have been consistent and this rom has been my daily for about a week now. Not really worried about the video recording. I take Photos on Snapchat majority of the time anyway so I can wait patiently for the video recording fix. I'm just glad to have a stable 5.0 lollipop build.
Looks great
Anyone using these roms with QI charging? Does it still work?
Knocked off my LG-D851
Finally flashed a 5.0 rom and have discovered that QI charging still works, though it feels like it takes longer to charge.
