[Q] Do you have this on your custom ROM? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi to all!
The Note II is my first Android phone and I haven't even rooted it yet.
I've used an iPhone before and iOS had a feature called Zoom under Accessibility. Google has implemented a similar feature in Android 4.2 called "Magnification Gestures" in Settings -> Accessibility (you can search for "Accessibility updates in the new JellyBean 4.2" on YouTube, I'm not allowed to post links yet).
My question is for people who use custom ROMs based on 4.2.2: Do you have this feature on your phone?

Yes I am running 4.2.2 and that feature is available.

Thanks. What ROM are you running? Is it stable for day to day use?

Stability depends on the ROM you are using .. Even the best custom ROMs have issues..

Alright...
- I have rooted my device using Dr. Ketan's guide.
- I now have the latest Philz Touch CWM and a not so latest version of SuperSU + busybox.
- I have done a backup in recovery (is that a nandroid?),
- Now I want to back up my efs folder.
- Then I plan to install Titanium Backup and do another backup.
Is there anything else I should do before I install a 4.2.2 ROM?

Yes to 3.
Use the tool available in dev section or in ketans thread.
Don't backup system apps as well.
For the rom itself I recommend slim rom hyperdroid aoxp or pacman.

I used the "Backup all user apps + system data", but I don't intend to restore it yet. I'm just testing out ROMs now. I've installed JellyBam 7.2.0 and I'll see how it goes.
One more question:
Titanium Backup wants USB debugging enabled. Is that ok?

Don't restore system data. It probably wouldn't work.
Yes.

Is there any 4.1.2 TW ROM that has the "Magnifier gestures" (Accessibility) from 4.2?

Just remember when you update your recovery cwm or other your nandroid backup cant be used anymore... Did you try doing a advanced restore and only rstoring data to your new rom? Goodluck and enjoy ur phone.

When I signed into my google accoung from my new ROM all my apps were downloaded from the playstore and I only restored data for a few of them in TB.
If I restore the nandroid backup in recovery will I have my old stock ROM back or will there be any problems?

Yes restore backup is old rom back. However advanced restore data just places all the apps you had on the new rom.

[Q] Back Up Procedure

Hi guys,
I just started flashing my phone with custom roms and was wondering what the best program is to backup a rom/ just settings, apps and contacts; to save me all the trouble of downloading each app aswell as setting up the settings again.
As im new to this i would really appreciate it if someone could explain how to go about doing all this.
Thanks for all your help.

There are some Market apps that are useful for this - Titanium Backup and MyBackup in particular. I use TB myself and find it excellent. However I think the free version may require you to confirm each time you restore. Worth checking both out - both have free and paid versions available, so try the free ones and see which you like best.
preacher65 is right.
As for backing up your complete ROM i suggest you use CWM recovery, which you used to flash custom ROMs with, to backup your ROM (aka Nandroid). You'll find an option in the recovery for backup, or alternatively you can do it via ROM Manager.
Nice thing about this is that when you flash something and your phone doesnt boot, you can just go into recovery and choose 'Backup and Restore'>'Advance Restore' and choose only a certain part(.img file) of the backup to restore.
Thanks for the quick replies.
Also i was wondering if i was to back my settings nd apps nd contacts from a RCMIX3D KINGDOM ROM and restore it on a LeeDroid ROM or any other custom rom, is it possible to do this or will there be a problem because of the 2 different roms?

There are mixed opinions on this, so this is based on my experience.
I think Contacts should be fine, as they're pretty much a standard format from ROM to ROM (someone will correct that if I'm wrong, I'm sure - I use Google contacts so mine are always synced).
User apps should be okay to restore, at least if you just choose to restore the app only - it's recommended to only restore data for apps selectively, when you really need to. Don't restore any system apps across different ROMs, though.
And phone settings are likely to be incompatible, as the two ROMs have a different HTC base (0.81.651.0 for Kingdom, 2.36.405.8 for Leedroid).

Google should take care of your Apps and Contacts for you.
Thanks, also does titanium backup phone settings aswell??
Nd if i to restore a bsckup to a newer version of the same rom e.g from 0.2 RCMixKingdom ROM to 1.2 RCMixKingdom ROM; would da backup effect anything ?

[TUT] How to easily restore data when changing roms.

Hey fellas.
I don't know if this is wrong section or not, but i have something to share.
Are you a sort of person who changes ROMS alot and finds it buggy to keep restoring data and installing the apps again.
This Thread Is going to guide you how you can easily restore your apps and data easily.
Note: Only tested on Gingerbread.
Note: I have only tested this on the same CM7 versions, like Restoring between Apocalypse and Miracle V4, and Official CMs. This might not work for other ROMS which are not Cyanogen Mod like Adrenaline Rom, Stocklite, Lewa, Joy Os and many others.
This is not any sort of personal mod but is something included withing our Ace.
For this to work you ofcourse need to be rooted and have Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Guide:
TO BACKUP DATA AND APPS.
1. First, On your ROM. Install all the apps that you need on other ROMS, and all the data you need on your current ROM
2. Reboot into recovery.
3. Glide to Backup And Restore.
4. Make a Backup.
Now when you install another ROM, you ofcourse need to wipe data and cache and stuff.
Guide:
TO RESTORE ONLY DATA AND APPS.
1. On your new rom, Reboot into Recovery.
2. Glide to Backup and Restore.
3. Select Advanced Restore
4. Select the date of the backup you made above.
5. Restore data.
6. Reboot.
You'll see that all your apps of the previous rom are now working with the new rom without wasting lots of time in installing.
If you end up in bootloops, or hangs try restoring cache too.
And If your device is not booting and is stuck at splash screen. Try adb reboot recovery or pull out battery, boot into recovery and to full restore.

tested with a lewa backup restoring to a fresh lewa install. bootloop.
same with cm7 - lewa and cm7 to cm7 :/
I use titanium, but for post rom flash i use gobackup, handles contacts, messages as well as apps, but also remembers your widgets, folder layouts etc. By far the quickest solution following a reset.

Yes you can even n use titanium backup but I heard people have issues with it, and in titanium backup the restoring is way slower plus the apps need to be restored manually..

Can work on cm9 as long as you're using same version. Like it works for CM9 and Paranoid Ancroid.
titanium backup seems to be best
as I switch between CM and Stock ROM.........

No...as I know ace supports only like 3 recoveries. Clockwork mod is the best. You can backup data using titanium backup by touching menu button then batch and click run next to backup all user data and system apps. Then you can restore them the normal way. But in recoveries you have to backup everything.

I have both titanium and go installed and I find go superior for restore post rom flash
I have the titanium apk saved on my sd card, install that first, use that to install gobackup and s2e, then use go backup to restore the rest.
Go saves contacts, but also call history, messages, as well as your launcher and widget layouts as well as all apps, and it seems much quicker to restore things than titanium is. The downside is less options when restoring, but for a quick reinstall its the quickest. I use titanium for the other features such as freezing apps, restoring old backups, data etc.
You do know that this is just basically flashing a rom over another without data wiping. This method can be buggy 50%.

where is flashing a rom over another without data wiping? The rom is installed in the usual way, cache cleared, factory reset etc, install the rom. and then restore your apps. Its worth noting that the op just said he has tested it in CM7 based rom, so hes not changing rom source.
that said, several people in the thread, myself included have said it does not work with their cm7 based rom. I tested and got bootloops.
And honestly there is no point when there are perfectly good backup packages like titanium, go etc to use.
Can you confirm this is working with amarulls script installed.. ?

Titanium works the best!!
I tried carrying out some tests. And, it works perfect across CM7.
I flashed cm7 nightly, two of the RCs, and some stable releases and this method works great.
It's also a lot faster, because I am a gamer. And installing the games again, then copying data to appropriate location is very time consuming.
So this method works best for me.
I will try testing if it works on Lewa, Joy, Mokee OS..etc.
But, as long as the base is CM7, I don't think there is any problem that can come across.

backup all with titanium. then you try simply instal beta 8 over 7. When it will not good, then wipe all, install 8 and restore apps from backup.
titanium backup is the best solution for this..
you can also backup apps with App Backup & Restore... it will backup the apps and restore without downloading the apps again
Titanium Backup is the way to go. I fully recommend paying for the pro version if you plan on flashing a lot.
Just search the Play Store for it.
It also has the ability to backup your phone log, messages, and wifi hotspots, which is increasingly handy.
You also have the ability to back up to GDrive and DropBox.
Just don't restore system apps or data, as you don't want to restore older versions into a new ROM.

Revert from stock 4.2.2 to stock 4.1.2

Hello everybody,
I'm thinking about to speed up my phone again as it was in the past. Those 4.2 Features are pretty poor compared to the slowness they bringing into our phone.
I was very satisfied with 4.1.2 it was like made for gnex only and not for hardwaremonster like n4.
So my question:
Is there any possibility to flash stock rom 4.1.2 and get all the data from 4.2.2 so i dont have to set up everything from scratch?
Maybe an app that sync with a cloud or something else like full backup of the settings and appsettings and so on.
And after that the system should not push the notification about new updates.
thanks
greetz from germany
You could flash the stock image from Google.
Titanium backup could be used to backup your user data

You could try Carbon. I haven't used it myself so I can't comment on it but if I remember correctly it does not require root.

I always do nandroid backup first....no root needed, just custom recovery. Then flashing new factory image (full wipe) , copying everything back to sdcard...and finally restoring backup.
I would say root for the purposes of baking up to cloud with tibu, then flash, root, restore, unroot if you want to.
