[Q] hyperdrive installation - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

hi everybody, i'm actually new to this forum and i want to install my first rom on my gs3 from telus. I want to install hyperdrive rls 10 but i realise that my gs3 was running on jelly beans 4.1.1 and that the rom was working on jelly beans 4.1.2. Should i update my phone (even if telus just offer jelly beans 4.1.1) or will it works with my version of the os? I also want to know if somebody else install hyperdrive with a telus phone and, if so, is it working properly? do you have issues with the rom?
Thanks a lot

I would also encourage you to do some reading up on the entire rooting and flashing procedures for your device. It's better to have a strong understanding before you begin than to go into the process with little knowledge. There's some good reading material in the general section. There's also a link in my signature that you can follow once your ready. It outlines the safest ways to proceed if you follow the directions precisely

[Q] Flash or keep the original Android?

Hello,
I just bought a Nexus Galaxy week ago, I received the OTA update to 4.1.1, but not to 4.1.2. Is there any way I can download it and installed with the cable or something?
Should I let the original software on the phone or flash one of the ROMs found in the development section?
What are the advantages of the stock one over the others?
The things that kind of bothers me with the stock one are: no T9 dialer and no configuration possible on the drawer (for example, I would like to have the airplane mode directly on the drawer like in CM ROMs).
Thank you!

1. this is the general section, questions belong in the q&a section
2. custom roms offer more customization than stock rom, read the threads in the dev section and you will get idea.
3. if you just want to update to 4.1.2 there are stock roms in the dev section
4. only YOU can asnwer if you should flash a custom rom or not
5. next time post in the correct section
If you just wanna give stock 4.1.2 a go before going custom then follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
Bear in mind it WILL wipe your phone as you have to unlock the bootloader but at least you've then done it!!
i think this would be more appropriate:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419170
I'd recommend to give the stock 4.1.2 (yakju or takju) a try, then you can decide if you need a custom ROM or not.

Thanks a lot for all the answers!
Sorry to post in the wrong section.
I'd recommend giving JBSourcery ROM a try, it's quite possibly the best ROM that I've ran on my GNex so far.
Come to the dark side. We have...ok,we dont exactly have weed and cookies, but we have roms and kernels.

[Q] redruM and Jellybeans!

Hey Guys, I had upgraded to the official Jellybean and then yesterday finally rooted my phone. I wanted to flash the redruM ROM onto my phone...long story short after the Flash through Mobile ODIN my phone did what I can only assume is soft brick, but I found another thread with a stock rom and was able to restore the phone back to ICS now running the redruM rom. My question is can redruM work with JellyBean or at least a Jellybean ROM or do I have to pick one or the other? I saw another developer that listed like 5 different ROMS he had installed...can you have more than one rom? I searched and couldn't find and answer for these questions...any advice is welcom because I loved several features of JellyBean that I lost in reverting to ICS with redruM.
Thanks
Jeremy
redruM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742293
Probably bc it's a sprint Rom.....
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
you linked a sprint rom, you need to be a alot more careful flashing things. You can not have 5 different roms. This is the Redrum JB rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750270 and can not stress enough, read more.

Huh then I wonder if I just put the wrong link...because the ROM worked great once I recovered the phone back to stock with boot-stock-tmobile-sgh-t999 through desktop ODIN...when the phone rebooted...jellybean was gone and the redrum ROM was working just fine with the phone being moved back to ICS 4.0.4....
Regardless the crisis was averted and I've since moved over to Wicked Sensations JB and was even able to backup the "Awesome Beats" program from the redruM ROM and now have it running with wicked....so I'm happy!
Now if I could just get rid of the screen burn that was on the phone when I bought it that I didn't notice!
Thanks for your advice guys...
What you wrote makes no sense, but...
Why are you over on the Sprint forums flashing roms to your phone when you clearly have little knowledge on what you're doing, lol? If you have any questions PM me or someone who seems knowledgeable enough to help you. I fear your phones life.

Not sure what didn't make sense to you...
I was able to get my soft bricked phone into download mode and was able to flash a stock rom from ODIN on my desktop and when the phone booted back up the build was 4.0.4 and was successfully running the redrum rom that originally caused the problem...
Like I said...I probably posted the wrong link to the Sprint ROM as I just did a search for the redrum rom and picked the first one that came up...so my bad I probably posted the wrong link...
Once jellybean was gone after the flash back to stock redrum worked fine...and based on what I'm gathering from you guys is a Sprint ROM won't work on t-mobile phone...well what I'm telling you is that it worked fine after Jellybean was gone...there was a problem with the redrum rom and Jellybean.
But none of that matters..my phone is fine and running a great ROM that I am thoroughly enjoying.
Hope that clears it up...

Need Official ICS & JELLY BEAN for Galaxy Tab (SHW-M180S) not custom roms.

Hi Everyone,
I have Galaxy Tab [SHW-M180S]. Its a korean version. I want to install official ICS or Jelly Bean in it.
Please tell me the link for downloading that files.
Also,
Please tell me the process of rooting it and installing it.
THANKS
First I want to mention that this is the wrong section to be posting this question. This question should be asked in Galaxy Tab Q&A
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1081
Second the last official android os for the SGT7 was gingerbread 2.3
ICS & JB are custom roms

URGENT! from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 or 4.3

Ok so I'm curious of why I'm not able to update from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 or 4.3. Any time I try to update, it tells me that I'm already up to date. Now I'm wanting the new CyanogenMod, I'm craving it...
When installing gapps is it a MUST to use gapps for 4.1.1 or can I use the ones from 4.2.2? I use Clock Work Recovery Premium but it's not installing google apps with it. It kind of erks me in a way...
So I'm at a complete loss... is it possible to get 4.2 or am I stuck with 4.1?
I'm running a SGH-I747.
Please hit me up asap!

Ok...you are not ready to do what you are asking. Are you even rooted? If you have no idea then you need to stop because you are not even close to being ready to install custom roms. You need to do some extensive reading. Everything about installing custom roms has been covered beyond extensively on this forum and many others. XDA is not designed to hand you the answers on some quick and easy to use instructions and for good reason. You need to know what you are doing and to do that you need to search and read...a lot. If you have a specific problem that has not been addressed in these forums then we will try to help you but don't expect a step by step walkthrough to your post here.

Oh boy.... where can I start... Welcome!! Now, The reason why you can't update to 4.1.1 to 4.3 is because currently, 4.1.1 is the latest update on your phone. But you should be able to update to 4.1.2... I am guessing you are using an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3.
In order to get 4.2.2 (or later 4.3), your phone has to be rooted and you need to have a custom recovery (ClockworkMod or TWRP). Rooting basically enables root directories so that you can modify your phone.
Here is a place to get you started.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Keep in mind that rooting your phone WILL VOID your phone's warranty.
And take a look at this to understand more about rooting or custom recovery:

OK...Now for me not to sound totally like an @$$. Welcome!!! These are definitely some of the best places to start but please do not let it be the only ones you look at. Before you plunge in to root and install custom roms please read peoples experiences and issues they have had throughout the various threads. This will aid you in resolving any problems you may have during the processes you are trying and helps you get a better understanding of your phone. Please make sure that prior to trying to root, you look up information about losing and restoring of your IMEI and tripping your flash counter. As stated above, rooting will VOID your warranty so this is done at your own risk. If you follow instructions closely you should not have any major issues.
I'm sorry gentlemen, this was typed so quick I may have sounded ignorant to the "rooting world".
I know how to successfully root and install custom roms, but my question was so distorted and didn't make sense because I had just got off a 17 hour shift.
I am currently running Cyanogenmod 10 on my SGH-I747, with 4.1.1 gapps. I was having an issue installing Cyanogenmod 10.1 because my phone was 4.1.1.(why it wouldn't work) I was trying to question the fact of, is it possible to upgrade to a 4.2.2 rom and keep the latest version of Cyanogenmod?
Just hearing rumors about a 4.2.2 ROM excites me, but it being a ROM in its self, how can I run Cyanogenmod with it?
I love the feel of mod but if 4.2.2 is better, flexible and faster... I would love to have it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm still a little confused as to what you are asking. There are several versions of Cyanogenmod. CM 10.0 is a 4.1.2 ROM. CM 10.1.2 is a 4.2.2 ROM.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say. You can't install CyanogenMod 10.1 at all? What does the error say exactly? Please be a bit more clear so I can help you out
Are you installing the wrong gapps version? If you are flashing Cm10.1 (4.2.2), you need to flash gapps 4.2.2, not gapps 4.1.1.

Stupid Questions Thread - No Question to Stupid

Hey Everyone, this idea is working really well in the AT&T forum, so I am starting one here.
Rules:
Asking Questions:
1. Ask anything, you will not be judged, no matter how stupid the question.
2. Don't ask for people to send you specific links for tools, roms, recoveries, and other things availible by a simple search. If someone send you a link as an answer to a stupid question thats OK.
3. Try not to ask the same question as someone else. But feel free to refer back via quote if you need more help.
Answering Questions:
1. Don't flame people, if you cant give a straight and helpful answer, then don't answer at all.
2. Can't answer a question, ask for more info. Feel free to PM people, but share any working solutions back here please.
3. Obviously don't answer stupid questions with stupid answers!
Feel like you contributing alot, PM me and I'll add you to the contributers list.

Fine, I guess I'll open it up first since I've been dying to ask this question but haven't for fear of getting flamed.
I'm currently on Wicked ROM v5 (Jellybean). I saw that evil1art recently released Wicked ROM v1 for KitKat.
So my stupid question is do I need to flash back to stock so that I'm running KitKat first and then flash Wicked ROM v1 for Kitkat? Or can I just flash Wicked ROM v1 even though I'm on Jellybean and by doing so it would automatically put me on KitKat?
My guess is I need to flash back to stock first.

Use Twrp 2.3.6.1, people say 2.3.6.2 doesn't work. Other than that you need to be on the 4.4.2 bootloader.

I've been looking to update the firmware to run the latest roms. I flashed 4.4.2 and haven't been in the rom scene for a few months. Suddenly none of the new roms. I just get a reset after the phone logs on to wifi. I have the SM-N900W and tried the BT/Wifi fix for 9005 roms.
