T-Mobile 4G Question - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 on T-mobile and was receiving 4g. I am now only on etch. This has been happening for about a week. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Is it ROM based, hardware based, or T-mobile based problem? I have contacted T-mobile but have yet to resolve the issue.
I have yet to have problems until now... Does anyone have any idea what's going on or that could help in anyway?

which rom are you using

Holy crap, same thing happened to me. I was on stock and everything was fine. I flash CM10 and all was good for a couple of weeks, but then I wouldn't be able to connect tto anything beyond Edge. I called T-Mobile a few times and they didn't do anything to fix it. Still have the same problem after flashing back to stock. Didn't work so I flashed back to CM10 and now I am on LiquidSmooth and it's still kaputt.

Fixed.

If that doesn't work or you don't want to do that, try this:
Step 1: Go to Dialer/Phone.
Step 2: Dial *#*#4636#*#*
(this will lead you to secret development settings)
Step 3: Click on "Phone Information"
Step 4: Scroll down and you will see something that should say like "WCDMA preferred" or "GSM only" or w/e, change that to "WCDMA only" and that should force 3G/4G where available.
Hope that helps!

This can also be achieved with a bit of Safety by going to Settings>Wireless and networks>Mobile networks>Network mode.

I tried that and my backup gets stuck on the roaming error at 16%.
I looked it up. Seems some other people are having the same issue. I could not find a solution or post on the thread for help.

a bit of safety?
It's the exact same thing, plus you can see more than just that; you can see signal strength, type of service, etc.
There's nothing not safe about it.
Plus other phones have different menus, this should work for ALL phones.
(ex. my Galaxy Nexus doesn't have it)

Could someone please Proxy my question for me? I need 10 posts to post there.
The error is: Roaming Lists could not be read.
I searched many times. Some people have the same issue but no answers.

Ugh, I switched my computer and I got the backup to work, Now when I inject my IMEI it says that my IMEI is not valid. Is there anyone that can help?

Did you put it in properly? You have to use that format given.

I think so. I input it in every way possible. The way it looks on my phone. With spaces. Without spaces. Idk.
Does anyone know where to find the Stock rom. I lost mine when I backed up my current rom with not enough room left.
Thanks.

Go to about and check imei number, if it's 0, that means you rooted with incorrect method and you better have a backup before root, or else you are stuck with edge.

Your Tmobile GS3 is getting stuck at the roaming error? Did you try flashing a Sprint based ROM with a Sprint modem onto your phone at anytime??? If you did then that would explain your issue. That error is caused by incorrect MSL which should not exist on a GSM phone. You will need to Odin back to tmobile stock and create a valid backup (16% is not a valid backup and it explains why the app is telling you invalid backup).

Your IMEI is your phone's ID number to the network. No IMEI = goodbye connectivity to ATT/Tmobile/etc. Your phone just lost it's 2g/3g/4g capabilities. In the world of Apple, it's like your iphone turning into an ipod touch.

more bluntly, a phone without an IMEI won't get served a signal by AT&T, as posted earlier by someone else if you had read the topic. And what's a phone without a data OR voice connection.

No, Samsung phones from way back have had a history of corruption of the EFS partition/file/whatever.
This happened to me with my captivate a few years ago the only way to fix it was to send it to Samsung for a factory firmware reflash.

Are you still stuck on edge? Maybe its bad timing and its actually an issue with tmobiles tower. And have you tried in a different area of town so your connected to a different tower?
This happened to me once and it was killing me for over a day before I called tmobile and they said the tower close to me had storm damage!
Have you tried all three available radios? Try flashing starting with the latest UVALH2 and working your way back to UVALG1 and UVALEM.
If its not on their end you may want to reinstall using odin or grab the update via kies if you haven't already. It'll rewrite the system which could fix it.

Phone won't turn on after installing WanamLite | Help

Hey guys, I'm new to the boards and to Android. I was a very longtime user of iPhone and iOS until recently I returned my iPhone 5 for a Note II.
I apologize before hand if I'm coming off as a noob--thats cause I am--but I've ran into a problem.
Late last night I backed up my stock rom and installed [XXDLJ2 4.1.2][V2.0] WanamLite | Aroma. Everything went fine, the phone was working fine and after a while, I knocked out.
This morning the phone wasn't on so I figured it was dead. I immediately left it charging for a couple of hours and when I returned, the phone was still dead, no sign of life.
I'm starting to panic and I'm really hoping someone can help me.
I truly apologize for the noobing and if this thread isn't posted where it supposed to be, please accept my apologies..
thank you in advance.

I'm starting to panic and I'm really hoping someone can help me.
I truly apologize for the noobing and if this thread isn't posted where it supposed to be, please accept my apologies..
thank you in advance.

Can you force into download mode or recovery. Wanamlite isnt s rom for this device so your gonna have problems with it. You need to go back to a device-stable build
Edit...are you sure your batt didnt go completely dead? Sometimes you have to use a external batt charger when its been drained all tge way

Just finish calling someone off craigslist and he was able to help me determine that it's a softbrick. He said he can fix it and install any rom I want for $50; is there anyway I can fix this on my own?

Is it even booting to a splash screen (Samsung logo)? If it is, you can force it into download mode and Odin back to stock. There are tutorials on how to do so out there.
If it doesnt turn on at all, or if it just vibrates with a dark screen, you probably have a hard brick and may want to try warrantying it out. I've never had a softbrick that wouldn't power on, and I'd be wary of your Craigslist guy if he says a phone that shows no signs of life is a soft brick...

thanx all for replying so quick!
I was the one who made mention that there was not sign of life and he was able to determine that its a soft brick. He had me press vol down+home+power and it went into download mode.
I'm on my way to go see him, he said he can fix it and install any ROM I'd like.

If I'm not mistaken, it's Clean ROM. The only issue I have is that my cell network is gone. I called and went to a retail AT&T and they couldn't figure out what was wrong.
Luckily, he's cool and we've been in contact, should be fixed by tomorrow-- Unless you guys have any suggestion in what it might be and how it can be fixed. If not, I'll see him as soon as possible.

Would you be able to walk me through this? I'm savvy when it comes to this but I am new to Android.
Your help will be appreciated.
also check to see if you have an IMEI number as well. CleanROM is an att ROM with all the correct data APNs (AccessPointNames), e.g., made from the ATT Stock ROM, so you should be able to connect. on the otherhand, if you don't have an IMEI number you'll need to fix that before you can move forward.

Ya can check and change yur apn settings by going to settings-wireless and networks-mobile networks-access point names. Ya should have an att apn if not hit the menu button and add new apn. There are proper settings found in the rom threads. Then save it. Ya can check you imei status in the about device-status menu

I'm assuming that I have an IMEI only cause the AT&T rep looked at it when I went to the store. Anyhow, it doesn't hurt to double check. Thank you for your quick responses.

So I tried this and it tells me "Insert SIM card to access netword services." I certainly have a SIM card and its a new one. Any suggestions?
As said above, waste of $50 for sure. A little patience/reading/searching would have allowed you to do this yourself.. free.

That's what I was thinking as well; the modem might have been lost or corrupted. Easy fix.
OP, if you can get yourself into download mode, you're up against a soft brick. Once you're in download mode, fixing the phone is easy for almost any level of experience. Do some reading here, skim through ROM threads and read the stickies inside-out. There's nothing that guy did that a few hours of research and a little coaching can't help you do yourself.

Galaxy S3 Says E on Connection

Recently I flashed cm10, but after using it I realized that the data connection was terribly slow and instead of 4g/3g, it just shows the arrows and an E. I even odined to stock and it still has this. My family's sgs3's still have 4g. How can I fix this?

The connection still has an E
Does anyone know of a fix? If I'm correct, it all happened after flashing Cyanogen Mod 10, the stable release, from there the connection was either "G" or just "E."

Go to settings and see if imei is missing or has a 0. If it does try the fix in the development section. If that doesn't work, use triangle away to remove the flash counter to 0 and then coding stock unrooted and send it to Samsung.

I found the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997
but I'm confused as to what I'm supposed to do, help please?
Read the imei injection portion and go from there and search the thread if you have any questions. That is a very well written thread and should not be to hard to take the time to read it and fix the issue yourself.

Its been covered everywhere on that subject but I never read into it, and my computer is upstairs and I don't feel like moving soooooo you can search it lol. If no one or yourself gets it before I move I might help some more. Try searching "no 4g after injecting IMEI"

Your in what they call Edge coverage...very very slow data connection. Are you on the 2GB or 5GB Data plan? Try a different ROM...try reflashing the rom or radio...

This maybe completely random. But I have noticed a very strong E signal whenever my phone is not using more than that. After adding the account and a reboot. Try downloading something. It should automatically reset itself and try to find the 4G even if the 4G gives less bars than the E.

Depending on where you live..and T-Mobiles coverage where you live this may be the best you can get. Your phone is capable of 4G...but can only recieve 4G service if 4G is available in your area.

I had to wait to edit my post...to me it seems like he needs to reflash the radio or try a hard reset...or maybe unroot himself and deal with stock...I see more issues with rooted users..than people like me that run stock unrooted.
