[INFO] For those lucky One X S-OFF owners - HTC One X

Hi One X xda'ers
To start off this is NOT a thread talking about how to gain S-OFF, Why HTC should give us S-OFF or any other type discussions that have been covered before. This is for information concerning existing One X International Tegra S-OFF devices.
I thought i would create this to help those with an S-OFF device as most instructions tend to concentrate on S-ON.. It may also be useful on that glorious day when everyone can get S-OFF .
Following is a list of statements that I hope are useful.
1. There are a limited number of factory S-OFF devices out there.
2. There is currently no way to S-OFF your One X S-ON device at home. Only the odd Russian or Chinese shop can S-OFF for a charge.
3. The process for rooting and installing custom recoveries and roms is the same as for s on devices.
4. Even with S-OFF you must still unlock your bootloader via HTCDev if you want to install custom roms and root.
5. Even with S-OFF when you re-lock your bootloader it states that its ***RELOCKED*** same as an S-ON device.
6. S-OFF devices can write the boot.img from a ROM.zip from within custom recovery so you dont need to use fastboot commands separately. EDIT: not all devs atempt to flash the boot.img in install scripts even though it would work for the soff few. If Rom does not boot or radios don't work then flash the boot.img using pc as usual.
7. Yes this means you don't actually need a PC to install a ROM with some rpm zips.
8. For this same reason you can restore a nandroid from recovery and not worry about separately flashing the boot.img.
9. S-OFF devices should have Super CID-11111111. This means you can flash any firmware for any CID. Be Careful as it may also let you flash incorrect firmware from another device and bork it (not sure).
10. Ive seen one report that an RUU exe file will not effect your S-OFF status. I have not tried it.
So the key benefits are as follows:
1. Being able to flash boot.img from the phone only without using a PC and fastboot commands.
2. Not getting stuck waiting for a particular firmware update to become available for your CID.
So to all those S-ON'ers with S-OFF envy its not all that much better especially now a lot of CID's have JB supported firmware !
Im no expert so if anyone sees anything wrong or can offer other info\tips please let me know. Hope this helps.
cheers.

Not all of us we have jb,i'm stuck on hboot 0.97 I can not install even cyangen mod

If anyone knows how to change that flag I'll be happy to try it. I've done fastboot oem lock and it shows as relocked.

When I said happy to try it i may have been a bit rash .
Anyways, I pulled my mmcblk0p3 file as described but i cant see the HTCU bytes as described in a hex editor. I'll do some reading and see if I can get further. Thanks.

Great! I m gonna try now to read the specific block using ADB and make a research since i am on relocked bootloader and then i ll compare both of them!
EDIT
Without root i cannot read that block so i will be waiting for your file to make tests :/
The flag location has been reported to be the same on HTC One S and One XL. Time to add our phone on the list

You can may change the Kind of bootloader by flashing other hboot
But i belive better not switch between pvt and xe versions
I've heard that there are versions of endeavoru with other hardware!
supposedly the first units of the test phase or the sale at the other end of the world dont know excatly ?? This is the XE Version maybee
I dont mean
HTC one xl ( evita / At&tOnex)
I mean a different Version of HTC one x endeavoru!!!
Xe and pvt may have different boards or what else
But you must be able To change Typ of bootloader from ship To mfg or eng by flashing that Kind of hboot ??
MFG manufacturing HBOOT(debugging Rom?)
ENG engineering hboot
Ship the Consumer hboot
With soff you Must be able To do
Fastboot flash hboot hboot.img
you just take a hboot from a debugging or engineering rom and flash it
May With other bootloader you are able to lock
Did you try the different oem-modes??

Modified after the bootloader:
The service only for the first time the bootloader looks at why they would do differently in the face of inscriptions locked
From that one obtains the unlock.bin is not required to open the phone with him.
From this I conclude, if it requests the unlock code is not lost from the warranty
Admire the service only to the LOCKED appears.
I think this may be so correct.

It's possible only if you replace with the same amount of characters it "may" work as this was done on ps3 eboot images in the past.
Better to overwrite say 'RE' to 'UN' etc
(But... i could be wrong)

Any changes at all will break the signature, and the signature can not be recalculated without HTC's private key which we won't get.
This is unfortunately something that will only work once we actually have a complete S-OFF exploit.
Threads like this lead to bricked devices.
Please don't post "instructions" when you are really asking someone to test a theory for you. It confuses the noobs.
This will not work on a S-ON device.
But how do we re-lock the bootloader does that mean the private key can be found somewhere on the device? Or does this mean that the bootloader isn't being checked when we ota update the device?

The whole thread is pointless. Even if someone managed to do it when they were htcdev.com unlocked HTC already has your serial number and looks it up once you put your phone in for repair. They'd know even if it still says LOCKED.

Why would anyone go through all the trouble to go through HTCDev and then bottle out. That's their problem if they don't unlock it afterwards. Any hex editing on file's that are going to be flashed is dangerous especially with S-OFF. Luckily Hboot is protected to stop people from bricking their device with HTC dev. I have said all I want to say on this.

I'm guessing you've relocked your bootloader and flashed stock recovery before trying to flash the RUU?
Plus a quick search shows Error 140 means the RUU you're trying to flash has an older bootloader than the one on the phone.
Are you sure the RUU you have matches your version on your phone? (2.17.161.4)

Nope the RUU is older something like 1.4.xxxx the problem is there doesnt seem to be any RUU above 2 let alone 2.17 does this mean im goosed? and yeah ive relocked boot loader flashed stock recovery although it will let let me flash boot.img i just get access denied when i try that.
You can't flash a boot.img with a locked bootloader as far as i know.
That will be why you're getting the Error 140, the bootloader on the RUU is older than the one on your phone. You can only flash the equivilent or higher bootloader.
I know there is a few OTA's out there for carriers, but not sure if it'll help you. I'm sure someone else with more knowledge of flashing RUU's will be able to help more.
Probably a silly question, but don't you have a CW backup from before flashing Viperx that you can restore via recovery? It's the way I went back to stock and possibly the best thing you can do if you have a rooted phone...

Well.... Thats the funny bit. Its was saved to the sd card *facepalm* Which has now corrupted and had to be formatted so no more backup. The bit I am stuck on is how i get back to stock firmware. The only RUU with a higher hboot than current is HTC ONE X EUROPE but that one wont flash because the CID doesn't match and i don't know how to fix. Hate my life! lol

Hey cheers bro for advice but that isnt what im trying to do. The handset is needing to be returned to vodafone and im trying to get it back onto the official vodafone UK endeavouru rom and unroot but the the offieal RUU are only running around about 1.21.x.x.x.x but the viper x rom has but me on 2.17.161.4 which means the RUU is failing because of bootloader error, im still a bit confused on this but it seems i cant downgrade and my handset is NTEGRA 3 international version which mean no S-OFF, no super CID and no HBOOT access hence, pardon the language.. Are sorry i miss read, though it said why dont you, erm because i have one of the faulty ones. Issue with wifi disconnects if you move the phone, spoke to HTC who said some of the One X UK editions have been know to have wifi issues and to contact vodafone for replacement, i was going to just live with it but this is now the 4th maybe 5th time the SD card has currupted, twice was before i even rooted it so theres something wrong me thinks. Thats was why i rooted because i though maybe it was the bloatware damaging the files on the phone but nope looks like ive got a dodgy phone. lol.

Mate, no matter what you do, HTC will be able to see that you were messing with the phone. Your bootloader will be "RELOCKED", instead of "LOCKED" as in the original unit.
So, whatever the problem is within the phone, they have a reason to charge you for the repair, as the warranty will be void. I even believe it's said on htcdev website, during the unlocking process.

Oh Im well aware of that but this is a contract phone, HTC dont need to touch it, Voda do which coincidently their techs dont check to see whether it is locked/relocked just whether there is custom software on there. I must of had about 6 different handsets rooted then re locked and repaired by vodafone.

Good for you, mate! Then, search for stock boot.img, stock recovery, and proper RUU, and you're good to go!

Well this is what i need help on, im still a bit stumped understanding bootloaders and allsorts, my hboot number is 1.12.0000
but my main version is 2.17.161.4 and when im trying to use the RUU all i get is error message 140 saying that im basically trying to restore to a previous bootloader and this is what im stuck on because the RUU is "Footballs" RUU and is the most recent vodafone UK one. What am i doing wrong. This is where nobody helps me. Thanks for talking to me btw you dont understand how much i apprectaiate this. Oh and ive tried flashing boot.img and system.img before locking and then using RUU but it when i flash system it just says failed :/

Oh, now I see your main issue! Sorry, I disregarded the root cause of your trouble...
What you need is proper RUU only. But, that's easier said than done. Did you search filecatory.com or htcruu.com. There are plenty of RUU's there. But you MUST run 2.17 RUU. So, if Vodaphone didn't release 2.17 update, .. You know what I mean.
The other way you could go is finding custom rom with 1.29 base, flashing that one, then flashing stock boot.img, stock recovery, RELOCKING bootloader (don't forget this!), and then running RUU. Shortly, bringing your base to the one of RUU's.
Aww this is getting wierd now, so im looking down the avenue that we have discussed i remembered i can extract roms from the RUU itself which is how i repaired my phone last time but when i 7-zip into the ROM (bearing in mind this is the latest RUU aswell) the HBOOT .img file is 0.95.0000 ....So how the hell did i get onto 1.12.0000 ?? I havnt ran any RUU or anything and surely the ViperX Rom cant update my hboot image... can it? And the RUU which i am trying to use is the software i was on before i re-rooted.... oh god my head hurts....
I have no idea how you got 1.12 hboot, really. You are right, ViperX should not have anything to do with hboot...
If I were you I wouldn't mess too much with extracting the ROM from RUU. Again, what RUUs did you find? What is their base?

I have found a few with a 1.21 and 1.22 ans a few 1.29 base but it will not flash the system.img it just fails which apperntly seems to be a common occurance because the system files are to big.

Verizon HTC one stuck in bootloader with s-on

So I'm fairly new to the rooting scene. I had clockworkmod installed and I was unlocked and s-off. There were some weird google sync issues that popped up and I tried a factory reset. It still didn't fix the issues, so I decided to take it back into verizon, but I wanted to get it relocked. so I installed the stock recovery got relocked and s-on. I tried once more for a factory reset and I got stuck in the bootloader with the locked and security warning flags showing. Am I completely out of luck or is there a way that I've missed to get s-off again?
Unlock the bootloader again, then flash twrp or cwm recovery, then flash a rom. Then use firewater to get s-off. Alternativley you could do an ruu, and then use firewater to get unlocked and s-off.

I appreciate the reply but I just need a little more direction on the first step. I believe rumrunner won't complete because when it tries to reboot the phone to run adb commands it can't since the phone is stuck in the bootloader. When I try to flash a new recovery (be it cwm or twrp) in fastboot the flash fails @ the bootloader signature check. I'm not really sure what that means, but I get it everytime.
Also, I have't found any RUU that is for a Verizon phone. I'm not sure that others will work.
Reading over your reply one more time I think I just need to get that bootloader unlocked, then I can try out everything else but I'm hitting a wall. Any more insight into that?
When you originally unlocked it did you use htcdev to do it? If so they gave you and unlock_token.bin file, do you still have it on your pc somewhere, possibly where fastboot is? If you didnt use htcdev you can try to now http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader. Select all other supported devices in the drop down box on the side, then follow the instructions to try to unlock the bootloader again.
Unfortunately I didn't use htcdev, and the One isn't a supported device anymore. Or at least doesn't seem to be - I get an error:
Error Code: 160.
Error Reason: MID Not Allowed.
Ah that sux. Well you need to try to ruu then, but im having trouble finding the right one. Do me a favor and type this using fastboot
Code:
fastboot getvar all
and post what it outputs here.

Ok let me look for the rigjt ruu. Also remove your serial ime and meid from that post. Not something you want people to know.
Ok well i got some bad news. I cant find a 2.10.605.1 ruu. I can find older ones but that dosent help, since a s-on hboot wont allow you to downgrade. Im stumped at what to do at this point. Hopefully the correct ruu will be available soon. Mabey someone smarter than me has some other ideas.
Ah, well... hopefully they can come out with it soon I really appreciate you looking into it!
I'm in the same boat. Unsure what to do as I need a phone.
I found a decrypted one, but that wont work with s-on. ?
But if there is a decrypted one, that means there must be a signed one somewhere. I will keep looking.
If you still need the signed 2.10.605.1 RUU.... PM me.. I'll get santod to add link to his thread
Yea you need an encrypted version of the same software build you were on. You can't ruu to a lower version since you are s on. But if you are boot loader locked you won't be able to flash anything.
If you can get the encrypted signed ruu from somewhere you could possibly boot to ruu mode and flash that. Then use firewater to unlock and get s off.

Where might i find the correct encrypted signed ruu?
As far as I know only HTC has them and they used to be available here but not any more. See if flyhalf has it somehow.
If you are s on though I'm unsure if you can flash it. But it's worth a try as long as it's the encrypted version and signed...that way all the stock files match the partitions and files on your device currently.

How to unroot htc one m8??(thanks Redpoint3)

I got an update from the factory but it wan't work tell i unroot my phone , how can i do that??
guys the problem is more then unroot the device if you have the time read the comments and post any help
thanks
"Themes and apps" is a really weird section to post your question in. I'll ask the mods to move it to "Q&A, Help" where it belongs.
To unroot, you need to restore a stock TWRP backup. Either one you made before rooting, or get one from here (and restore with the instructions):http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Alternately, you can relock the bootloader and RUU (RUU will wipe the phone).

You don't have the ability to move threads, after they are created. The mods can, and have already moved it to the right section (Q&A). It usually takes someone else to report the thread (which I did), and I don't think you can report your own thread.
But back to the topic at hand, I hope the info I posted was useful to you. Let us know if you have further questions.

Thanks men but there is one thing , the bootloader is already locked I didn't unlock it before , so I was wondering whether I have to unlock the bootloader and install CM13 room or not doing that and unroot the phone because may be there is a chance that the company send an update for 6.0
I only have two questions
Is there is an official update to 6.0 from HTC company?
Or should I go with CM13
Also is there are any risks in bootloader unlock?
I successfully unlocked the bootloader in lg g2 mini before and it was very easy without any big risks
And now with HTC one m8 I don't know if it is the same or not.

Android 6 came to this phone a really long time ago, about a year ago (Dec 2015) for most M8 versions. If you didn't get the update, it may due to being rooted, which typically prevents OTA update.
Alternately, depending on what version M8 you have, you can just RUU to Marshmallow (Android 6) without unrooting (although it will wipe all data on the phone). Do you know your phone's CID, or at least provide the OS number on the bootloader screen? From that, I can possibly tell you if there is an RUU.
Or should I go with CM13
You're talking about 2 completely different things, unrooting to OTA, or installing a custom ROM. I can't make that decision for you, you need to do it yourself.
Also is there are any risks in bootloader unlock? Not really. The bootloader can still be relocked, and you can restore to stock. I don't recall seeing any brick reports from unlocking the bootloader. The critical "brick" partitions (hboot and radio) aren't accessed by unlocking the bootloader, and any partitions that are accessed (system, recovery, etc.), can be easily rewritten/repaired if anything goes wrong.

This phone is a mess. Its the AT&T version (m8_ul_ca), but its been rooted, s-off, SuperCID, and some other firmware installed, or partially installed.
Reason I say "partially installed" is that the firmware number (version-main) 1.29.708.4 isn't one I recognize. But 1.xx main versions typically correspond to KitKat on this device. Which doesn't correspond to hboot 3.19 (which is for Lollipop or Marshmallow), nor the radio number [email protected] which is for AT&T Lollipop firmware.
You should re-baseline this device by RUU. But which RUU is the question. Since you have s-off and SuperCID, you run most RUUs.
The main version "708" corresponds to the Hong Kong version. Is that where you are located? What bands does your carrier use for 3G, and for LTE? These things will determine with RUU to use.

َAm not sure but i guess it's not AT&T version because i can use any SIM card i want , AT&T version use specific SIM card i guess !!
Any way i'm not from Hong Kong , i use MOBILS SIM card (From the company MOBILIS) for 3g and LTE .

You shouldn't be "guessing' anything, and your guesses would be wrong, anyway. As I've already stated, the product ID m8_ul_ca means its US variant AT&T (that product ID also US Developer's Edition, but ATT is much more common). That much is an absolute fact, and not a guess on my part. Being SIM locked or not, has little bearing on what version you have. Any of these versions can be SIM unlocked with the proper code. So stop guessing at answers, as its not particularly useful.
I'll also guess that the back cover has been replaced. As the AT&T version has the AT&T "globe" logo on the back. We've seen a good number of devices "debranded" by having the back covers replaced to remove carrier logos. I'll guess it has a model/carrier number on the back cover, that also doesn't match any of the getvar info.
Any way i'm not from Hong Kong , i use MOBILS SIM card (From the company MOBILIS) for 3g and LTE .
None of this tells me anything useful. What country are you actually from? More importantly, what specific band (or bands) number does your carrier use for 3G, and what band(s) do they use for LTE?
Also i forgot to motion that when i go to software update i find that there is a system update (Software update :4.16.401.13 (57.45 MB)) when i download it , it wan't install because it says (We determine that your phone maybe running a modified version pf its system software . for your protection , we cannot update your phone . please revert your phone to the official htc system software to update your phone.
The carrier version of the OTA is Euro (401) so it won't install on a phone what has firmware for the Hong Kong version (708). Additionally, you have to install the OTAs sequentially, without skipping. So if you currently have 1.xx version, you can't skip 2.xx and 3.xx and go straight to 4.xx. In other words, there is no way you will get that OTA to install in your current configuration.
Which is why I am suggesting RUU. The RUUs do not need to be installed sequentially. Its a complete re-image, and it would also fix the mismatch you have between the main version (HK) and the hboot, radio (AT&T Lollipop).

Again, you are providing info that doesn't answer the questions I asked; and is not particularly useful. You didn't try 3G or 4G. So what? Does that mean you never want to use them, and will never use cell data? Or otherwise?
The following states that Mobilis uses 2100 MHz for 3g, but doesn't state info on 4G: http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
You can typically call your carrier, and get the answer to the question.

You should be able to unlock the bootloader. But whether you can run any current ROMs is questionable.
Your firmware is a mess. The old firmware number 1.xx won't work with any current ROMs. You should fix your firmware first. But again, by RUU and I need more info before I can direct you to an RUU.
Also the version TWRP custom recovery you will need to flash custom ROMs, depend on what firmware version you have. And your firmware is all screwed up (seems to be partially modified) so again, its best you fix the firmware by RUU before proceeding with anything else.

Supercid is not recognised anymore that is why you can't get updates. Looks like that phone has been previously rooted then relocked.
You'd have to root it, change the cid then return back to stock to get updates. From what I've read you're not missing much with nougat. I'm not going to bother updating.

There is no free method. Your options are Sunshine or a Java clip. I suppose you might be able to find an XDA user who had purchased a Java clip who lives near you and is willing to help you.
