I won a new Galaxy Note 2 of ebay.
The description it had was a Samsung T889 T Mobile Note 2. The only problem is that several different system/speed tests indicates it has a ARMv7 quad core processor. I thought all Note 2s had which is the Exynos Quad 1.6. My speed tests are a lot slower.
Did I just get a fake? I need to two report this to Ebay if that's the case

The galaxy note 2 does use an ARMv7 processor, aka ARM Cortex-A9, aka Exynos 4 Quad, aka Exynos 4412.
Okay, didn't know that. Thank you for clarifying.
Something just doesn't seem right about it though. I got a white case, but black spen. This guy I bought it from also deals in a lot of Chinese products/toys, etc.
Check out a couple of reviews on Youtube and the like.
If you're still in doubt, upload a few pictures (don't forget to blank out your IMEI) and we'll have a look.

I've called Tmobile and Samsung -- both verified the IMEI was good but didn't know anything about the processor/memory aspect. So I took a screenshot of some CPU/RAM information. It was that infamous SMDK4x12 that doesn't tell you if it's a full quad processor or not. Plus the system storage only shows 1.72GB of RAM vs. the 2GB that I thought Tmobile T889 phones were supposed to have. Then there's the ARMv7 processor vesus the 1.6 GHz Exynos 4412 that I thought Note 2's were supposed to have.
I've attached a screenshot of what I'm trying to convey. I'm thinking this is a very, very clever clone.

No, really. Is this a good fake? The processor speeds don't match up and they don't use the same processor. I'm also not able to register the phone on Samsung. Only the IMEI has checked out which I understand can be duplicated. When I put the IMEI into www.imei.info , it comes back with an old Nokia clam shell phone.
So seriously, is this legit?
Internal storage, memory, and processor all check out. Doesn't seem fake
The exynos 4412 processor in the note 2 is an ARMv7 cpu clocked at 1.6GHz. Also the RAM is 2GB not the system storage. And you still wouldn't get the full 2GB due to part of it being reserved for the OS.
Thanks all. I was just concerned about how it came with the wrong color stylus, benchmark tests weren't as fast and not knowing about the processor. I've been scammed once on a North Face jacket that I don't want repeated! :good:

My wife and I got the Note 2's the day they came out from a corporate T Mobile store. I got titanium grey and she got white, we didn't even realize it until we got home that her I Spen was the Spen for the titanium grey phones it actually came that way from the factory. Mistakes happen if you got the phone sealed it could be the same situation my wife was in, if it was not sealed he could have possibly lost the original one and replaced replaced it and then filed to put it in the description.

Just to clarify, the Samsung Exynos 4412 Quad that powers the Galaxy Note II is based on the ARM Cortex A9 reference design. The 'ARMv7' you see refers to the instruction set of the processor.
Hopefully this article can explain things in great enough detail for you but suffice it to say that, from what we can tell, you indeed have a genuine Galaxy Note II. Congrats and enjoy!
Lmao mine comes up as a Samsung f250

Don't put much faith in those imei check sites. My N7100 was reported by one site as dumb phone from 2005 but a different site reported it as a N7100.

Is there any difference from the processor of the note 2 from the s3 and note 10.1? Aside from it being overclocked by 200mhz of course I somewhat read before about something that says that ours has a rev.2 something. Inwas just curious for more information which is why I asked. Thanks!

I believe that is correct... in Europe/Asia. But I thought Samsung used a different chip for the US GS3.
Pretty sure the Note10.1 is the same though
EDIT: Nevermind! I somehow stumbled into the International GN2 forum... not sure how.
The US GS3 uses a Qualcomm dual core
from this phone, difference is literally day and night, im getting 6 hour screen time now
but for those that want to switch over, note 2 also has the infamous blob/vertical line issue
so beware.

t989 is still plenty fast, note 2 is faster, but thats a given
my issue with t989 is that the battery is really crap...after a full year of use the battery wont even last 3 hours screen on, so i figured id let my mom use it for voice only (which still goes on for days)

Yea I was just updating the GSIIIs in my store to 4.1.1. Much smoother than ICS. Although they still stutter and spurt a bit. Although I think that might be due to the crappy demo software T-Mobile loads floor models with lol. You can definitely tell with the notification toggles. They're were choppy on ICS, much smoother on JB.
And yes I agree with your s4 move. I believe Sammy may be putting their dual core a15 exynos/Mali t604 in it. I'm gonna pass on all phones this gen and wait for that. Its monster!! Have you seen the Nexus 10 in action?

Oops! Lol. I kinda thought that after I posted it....but too lazy to worry about it!
I have been eyeballing the Note 2, whats this about an S4 though? I would love the power of the Note 2, in a smaller package. The SGS2 is the perfect size. The Note even in my hands is huge.
The S3 wasn't enough of an improvement over the S2 to be worth it in my eyes. If the S4 shares some of the specs from the Note 2, like perhaps a Quad core CPU, 2 Gb of RAM, and an HD screen. I'm in.
Thought about switching but the phone just seems to big for my day to day use.
I was thinking about the s3, note 2 or waiting for the s4.
So how does compare in holding the s2 in hand vs the note 2

From what I've gathered the Galaxy SIV will sport a 5 inch 1080p SAMOLED screen, a quad core A15 architecture Exynos 5 chip possibly coupled with the Mali t658 GPU. Samsung is really trying to knock it out of the park with the GSIV. Can't wait for spring!

I believe that the TMO Note 2 already has latent LTE bands that will be activated via OTA upon the network launch / roll-out.
I bought the galaxy s iii a few days ago when i came to realize the dealer had no idea what she was tlaking about. How do i go about ensuring i have a dual core or quad core? The box says dual core but i had believed it to be a quad core..... what do i have?

US models, such as those used on AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint run of dual-core processors while the international S3 has quad-core processors.

You'd have to buy the International Galaxy SIII (i9300). It has the quad core Exynos, but only 1 GB of RAM rather than 2 and no LTE radio. It's not worth it just to get more cores (which aren't by any means an end-all-be-all indicator of performance anyway).
actually, the i9305 (i think that's the model number) is an international version with 2gb of ram and lte.
hey thanks for the information guys think i will be staying with the phone. Wish the people selling the phones would not lie to my face however but after doing some research i can see i still have a great phone and it appears to be better than the international.

no, it's the international version still. try looking in the international forums for people in the us who have gotten the phone, they'd have better advice for you, as i don't own the phone. but if that doesn't help, i'd try finding cell phone sites that sell it and ship to wherever you live.

This.
There's no reason to want more. The dual core + 2gb ram runs everything you phone can run anyway.
Dual core + 2gb RAM beats quad core + 1 GB. Trust me I have a quad core nexus 7 and I can over clock it to 1.7ghz and its still not as smooth as my gs3 at 1.5ghz. The snapdragon s4 is high end dual core, very power efficient and fast. Also can be over clocked to 2.1ghz with ktoonsez kernel.
Anyone else underwhelmed with Galaxy S4 news? Hopefully some of the UI tweaks make their way to the Note II but otherwise Note II better than the S4. Matter of fact the S4 looks like a mini version of the Note II.

Not really. Although it may look the same it has about the same or best features as the one. This phone is great and for those that have a note 2 it may not be that much of an update but for s3 owners it's a decent upgrade. But with lots of the software updates from s4 coming to s3 this phone is more of a phone for those trying Sammy for the first time. In the end this phone is a sure competition to the htc one.

I personally don't see the upgrade for S3 owners but definitely see it for S2 owners. I was hoping for more wow factor since the S series and Note series are typically pretty close to each other save a few small differences.

This. S3 users will be pretty silly to get this upgrade unless money is no object for them. I do like a few this though. The white version for example is not just white it looks like it has a textured face. And the Window for the flip cover. The biggest update would be the AC wifi. I wish the Note 2 had that.
Also anyone catch that it has an IR LED? That's sweet if it does.

Im curious to see if the s4 can be rooted easily because of the new Samsung knox software. It seems like its gonna be hard to flash roms and such cause the features of knox is to shut the phone down if unauthorized software is found. Also the kernel has secure boot on it. Any thoughts on this guys?

I'm really disappointed that they didn't focus on improving design and build quality. I love my Note 2 but will definitely hold out if the Note 3 is just a spec'd up update. It's awesome that the battery is removable and a SD card can be used, but I really believe they could used more premium parts in place of the chrome strip and plastic cover. If struggling HTC is capable of creating a gorgeously designed phone, then Samsung -with all it's resources and money - can definitely design a well-crafted, premium device.
But I am looking forward to the Note 3 and the new features the device will include. I just hope the device doesn't get any bigger (if it does, i hope it's not significantly noticeable) and includes more premium parts. Can you imagine the Note with an aluminum, removable battery cover and a premium chrome belt?
The plastic adds less weight and makes the screen less prone to breaking. I have dropped my phone numerous of times and never had to replace my screen. More weigh equals more weight which equals more mass and force when you drop your phone.
I believe Samsung's goal is to make their phone light and durable. If I had a choice of either protecting my screen or my phone cover I rather had a phone with some nicks than a cracked screen.

13 MP back facing camera, internal storage space of up to 64GB, 1.9 GHz Snapdragon cpu. It's a little better than ours LOL
The Smart Scroll feature is pretty cool. I also like that it can tell if you are watching a video and if you look away from the screen it will auto pause. It comes with 4.2.2 so hopefully it can be easily ported to our Note II

Exynos chip is more optimized . Having it in the s2 you should know. Use the US variant of the s3 vs the international, it is just smoother with the exynos. So that's why its a deal breaker. Not going to settle for less. I really don't care for LTE.

I actually almost bought the galaxy mega 6.3 but read too many reviews basically saying the note 2 is way better......no point in buying a phone when you have the best there is in your hand already

I might stay with the Note 2 unless they give me an early upgrade. If not the note 2 is fine. Then you are going to be a can't wait for the note 4. A never ending disease.

Idk about anyone else but I can't wait for the galaxy note 3. I mean I will be sad to replace my note 2 but the only phone I would ever replace it with would be the note 3. Not quite sure the specs...rumors have been a 2.3ghz quad core snapdragon processor with 3gb of ram which sounds amazing.
Anybody else feel this way?

Everybody is excited about the Note 3 because its predecessor, the Note 2 is a legendary device and arguably the best mobile phone ever to date. So the expectations are through the roof. Thats the thing, expectations. I think we are expecting so much out of this device that many of us will be disappointed. Here's what i think the note 3 should be in order to be a successful and a worthy upgrade:
- Specs ( samsung NEVER disappoints when it comes to specs on paper), Snapdragon S800 or Exynos 5 octa 2nd gen, 2-3 GB Ram, 32GB of storage minimum with expandable memory, 13mp camera just like the S4 but with OIS, IR blaster, dedicated camera button would be nice, 1080P display Amoled or LCD is just fine with me personally, gorilla glass 3, better speakers than the Note 2 already pretty good speakers.
- Enhanced S pen functionality, more pressure points, more features, more comfortable to hold, S pen to work with the capacitive buttons
- More useful features like Multi-window, S-buddy page, pop up browser. No need for gimmicks like smart scroll or smart pause that can potentially cause the phone to lag which leads to my next and most important point personally...
- NO FREAKING LAG!!!!!!! Just like the note 2 and not like the S4 when it launched. It needs to have an amazingly fast and smooth performance. If this isnt the case then it will not be worth upgrading from the note 2 regardless of the number of cores it has. There should be 0 tolerance with lag considering a snapdragon S800 or Exynos 5 octa SoC plus android 4.3.
- Design. I hope Samsung can be less predictable with their design, make something different from the S4, S4 mini and S mega 6.3. Thinner and lighter would be nice, less bezel and more comfortable in the hand.
- UI. I expect it to be very similar to the S4 touchwiz interface plus some additional things for the S pen. If it can change that would be nice but i wont complain otherwise.
- Battery life. The note 2 battery life is amazing, period. The Note 3 needs to be better, period.
- display size. 5.7 inch would be pretty nice. Some folks are suggesting that the Note 3 should have a 6.4 inch display just like the Z ultra but it woudn't benefit neither us nor Samsung. Future Notes would have to be as big as 6.4 inches or bigger otherwise it would be a downgrade. Bigger than 6.4 inch is definitely tablet territory so 5.7 inch is fine so next year they can do 5.9 and so on.
I think if Samsung manages to follow these points, the Note 3 will be unbeatable.
It'll also be nice to have some stable releases of CM and have full code for the SD800. I am very much so looking forward to upgrading to the note 3.
I love my note 2 but an CPU/Screen update is always welcomed
having faster processor and more ram is good and well but at the end of the day it all about OS and how it manages it resources. I mean look at apple and windows phones running less spec hardware but it the OS that make them stand apart from the crowd. Quad core processor really? **** the day I can run hard core applications like adobe or autocad or other enginering software then I would say yes we need a I7 processor. For daily use dual core is just fine. Yes to more ram but more faster processor why?

+1 to this^^^^^ even tho I can upgrade when I want, having 5 lines on the account.
I'll wait for the 4, like to stay with the even numbers:sly:. The Note 3 is just going to be a over sized S4, with a pen.. Jmho
My girl is going to get one so I'll just play with and hack that one!
Just my 2¢®

Neither windows phone nor ios use true multitasking though, they both tombstone applications.
Not really a good comparison.
Dual core is fine? You're already using a quad core phone lol

Maybe u use multiwindow but I dont. I know the phone is quad but as I said dual core would have been just fine. The only way samsung can make money is by changing hardware and introducing features that most of the general public will never use like S4

It isn't even just multiwindow....
Real multitasking is more than just that.
I actually do use it as well. The only way they can make money? They are the biggest phone manufacturer out there right now. I don't think that is why they're making money. Plus who is to say how many people or who uses what features? Just because I don't use some doesn't mean others don't.
So they change hardware, and introduce new features, don't all companies do that? lol
There is a sticky to discuss other devices
