[Q] Tips on Improving battery life in Airplane mode? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I use my mostly as a media device, but since I'm always near a wifi connection either at home, on campus or whatever, I also use Google Voice and Talkatone for free calls and texts and it works great. I also got two brand new Anker batteries and an external charger and they work fine (my old stock battery swelled and was just overall dead). So I'll use my phone in Airplane mode with Wifi on and I get around 22 hours with 90 minutes screen on time, which is decent, but I feel like it should be better than that. Depending on the ROM, I have gotten as much as 40 hours battery life (which is great) and as little as 14 hours, and this is ALL on Airplane mode with Wifi toggling, so I'm guessing its software/settings related.
i am on a new ROM as of yesterday so I want to make sure I have my settings the best from the jump. I turned off all Location services, screen brightness is low and with the exception of push gmail and google voice notifications, the shortest polling interval time I have for any app is 4 hours. Any other settings I can change to maximize battery life?

One thing you can try using gsam battery monitor to see of anything keeps the phone awake when the screen is off.
You can hibernate apps with greenify and can use dsbatterysaver to kill data on screen off.
Edit: you can also use Romtoolbox to lower max CPU speed to 800/1000mhz and set governor to powersave/conservative depending on the kernel you're running.
Tegrak can help undervolt but the app is a paid app. Romtoolbox has a free version.

tt281gt has some great suggestions... I had an issue with conservative governor causing my flacs to skip. I was also running at 1000mhz. I changed to pegasusq and it was good to go. At one point I was using one of Kobridge's tweaks.I think it was Placebo2.0 It was the one where you had to pick like shift1,2,3 or 4 . Shift 3 had some great mods for the conservative gov. It was still great on battery but lost any laggyness. I know he has newer products that might be better than that. Maybe you can hit him up directly with your scenario and he can point you in the right direction. What your asking for is right up his alley!

I get 1.35x on default profile while using Myn's RLS5
Back when I was on fresh I used to get 2.20x with the aggressive profile.
Battery almost lasted 24 hours with very light use.
With Myn's, it last 17-19 hours and I am willing to sacrifice the extra hours for the performance.
Are you using the Ultimate juice or just plain juice? I want to upgrade to Myns 5 but I don't want new radios.

Yes I am using ultimate juice. If I remember correctly, you have to upgrade all your radios when you switch to a 3.70 rom.
I need to get ultimate but I don't pay the bill so I have to work around it. I wish I could just use paypal to buy it -_-'

I was trying JuiceDefender, but didn't really see what it was doing over Tasker and CPU Tuner and/or smartass. It seems to me that with Tasker doing WiFi and CPU Tuner to either do CPU profiles or just setting to smartass that there wasn't much that JuiceDefender added.

You can do almost everything juicedefender does with tasker and cpu tuner if set up right. Tasker is a little harder to use (though does have a lot more capability). Basically juicedefender is an alternative to doing tasker and cpu tuner not something you need in addition to. Basically with ultimate you can manage screen off cpu speeds, turn mobile data, wifi,4g on and off by screen schedule and or an app being active.
Personally i use juicedefener (ultimate) i get around 1.8x on CM 6.1.2 and about 2 on fresh. it will all depend on your settings and how often your screen is off. I go several hours at a time where my screen is off then ussually use it for 30- an hour between breaks and has greatly increased life because of this i say ..... YAY
Before I rooted my EVO, I was using JD Ultimate and the most life I got outta my phone was 1.90x but that when I didnt use my 4G and Wifi. When I would keep those enabled I would get about 1.25x
Now that I m rooted, I get about 2.30x avg. - Again though - I don't keep my radios on all the time, I only use my Wifi when Im home and I hardly ever use 4G. I live in houston and the signal here is good when you are in the city - but where I live - I sit right on the edge of good and bad signal and it makes my phone VERY laggy and choppy b/c its constantly connecting/disconnecting from the 4G network.
I would go ahead and upgrade to Ultimate cause its worth it...
can't live without juicedefender, period. Android is crippled without it -- Google should seriously consider integrating this fucntionality into the standard OS.
Without JD, my phone is completely DEAD by lunchtime every day (~5-6 hours after unplugging in the morning). Everything is set to sync automatically, of course, so it's there whenever I pick up the phone. With JD, I still have battery at night before I go to sleep. In fact even if I forget to plug the phone in at night, I still have some (very little) juice in the morning. When the battery gets below a certain percent, it goes into super-duper conservative mode and will NOT let the battery die. My counter only reads 2.15x but I'm sure it is actually much much more than that.
I use the most up-to-date beta version with ultimatejuice, but I don't really use all the features of the paid version (I still manually toggle wifi when I am at home because that is the only place I use it.) Just remember every time you update JD you need to open up the app and re-enable it so it starts working again..

I say No Juice. Running with the stock HTC kernel, I can go 24hours with moderate usage.
To me moderate use is:
1 hour of talk
50-100 texts
2 hours of gaming (bubble blast, gun bro's, bubble blast, ect...)
30 minutes of web on 3g
30 minutes of web on 4g
On the fence
I found that juice defender did help improve my battery life a little bit. But I'm still kinda on the fence about it. At times it messes with your data connections (3g, 4g, wifi) and things like gmail and calendars are not able to sync. Not too big a deal but I'm just not sure I like it yet.
So is that a yay or a nay? Also for 1.08* is it worth it?

What are the settings you guys have to save battery life? Also How do I setup the profiles?

I turn background data off, turn data and wifi off. My setcpu profiles. Screen off max300 min300,100 priority. I got a droid x and my battery lasts with medium to light use 24 hours before I have to charge.

Check your governor settings too.
I've found conservative with 80/55 up/down threshold, 10% steps to give a good medium between performance and battery life. Also, I've downclocked the max cpu speed to 921Mhz. 128Mhz for sleeping.
Edit: I do have background data turned on, as well as enable always on data toggled on under settings/networks/mobile data. Wifi is to never sleep. I do try to use wifi over 3g whenever possible - it extends battery life considerably.
With light use, I get 3-4 days, moderate use ~2 days, and heavy use will give a good solid day.

N/P.. I experimented with a number of different settings a while back, and although i'm sure this could probably be tweaked even further, it works exceptionally well as is. One of the methods of measuring was to see the stats from 'time_in_state'. I was looking for good utilization of cpu freq's between the min/max. My other criteria was good response in interactive apps (email, browser, scrolling).
ymmv.
PS. I do not use setcpu, but the above along with the sleeping script in the rom (see below), achieves the same thing.

[Q] How to get longer battery life on Deck's gingerbread-evo-deck 1.2.1 Rom

I was wondering is someone can help me. I've been using Deck's ROM's for the HTC EVO 4G for some time now and I hear about all these guys getting 20-30 hrs of battery life. I'm currently on 1.2.1 and have never got probably more then 11 hours out of my battery life with heavy or mederate usage. I've updated all my radios, wimax, etc....I've tried different kernels, I've installed vipermod and undervolted, I have CPU profiles. I've installed a new 3F3D driver. I've tried the wake lock fixes and still nothing has changed. Am I missing something here to how these other guys can get that performance out of their batterys. I'd like to post this directly to his thread but this is my first post and I guess I need at least 10 posts. I'm a bit of a noob but can hold my own.
I run decks with tiamat kernel 4.0.5 and I get outstanding battery life. Give this a try then let me know how it works out. Check your accounts to see if anything is synching that's insignificant. Then check your apps update frequencies. Lastly, turn off all of the haptic feedbacks, animations, and effects. Live wallpapers kill a lot of battery too. You might also want to try enabling and disabling auto brightness to see which is more energy efficient. If your overall goal is great battery life, then a lot of the bells & whistles are pointless.
It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.

I've tried tiamat 3.3.7, 4.0.5, and 4.0.6 and have got the same results with all three. I've tested each and one of these over about a week period. Currently I am trying SavagedZen 2.2.1 and up til this morning it hasn't changed much. I've took off all auto syncs. All haptic feedbacks, animations, and effects have been turned off. Never use live wallpapers and have read that lighter wallpapers will conserve battery. Right now I have auto brightness off and down to about 35-40%. I did however just checked off data enabled about 2 hrs ago and seem to have got better battery since. So far I'm at 82% with about 4 hours of moderate use. (mostly texting and surfing the web). I didn't know if there was any other tweaks internally that I'm missing or if it's more of a puzzle with what combinations to use.
Just saw my background data was enabled. I unchecked that as well. We will see how this goes I guess.
It seems like it's definitely data related. I downloaded skype from one of the forums strait to the phone and my battery percentage went from 79% to 68% just for the duration of the download. Is this common?
Do you use an SBC kernel? Have you whipped battery stats in recovery? Have you tried using the kernel governors (smartass, powersave, conservative) without setcpu?

I have used kernels with SBC and without and haven't seen much difference besides the initial 10% loss of battery. I usually I wipe cache, Dalvik cache, and battery stats everytime I flash a new ROM in recovery. I usually do a factory restore too. I've used smartass and savaged zen as governers as well. Currently I'm using savagedzen governer with a max at 1036 and a min at 245. I also calibrate the battery when i flash a new ROM. Currently I'm standing at 60% battery with about 7hrs and 37 min on battery. Probably the best battery life I've seen. I'm still seeing massive drains when I use 3G. I was just on xda forums on my phone for about 5 min. and the battery went from 65% to 60%. If I turn 3G off it stands idle for awhile.
I'm scratching my head trying to think of what will help. You probably won't like this, but when my rom has me stumped with a problem, I wipe and start over. Maybe an extended battery is the answer? They are dirt cheap for the EVO now.

Yea I was thinking about an extended battery as well. It seems like taking 3G off does wonders for the battery. Are you keeping yours on or off to get great battery life?

Lowering your max and min cpu frequencies will improve your battery life. I've always used 128 MHz as a min with no ill effects. Ever since I got my evo I've kept the max at 998 MHz and it was plenty fast, but I am currently trying out 691 MHz max and it seems just as snappy so far (battery life was great at 998 MHz max for low or moderate usage, but with heavy usage I've noticed it drains too fast). I'll probably try out some lower max frequencies to see how low I can go without affecting performance.

Use JuiceDefender to automatically toggle your data connection (3g/1x) off when the screen is off. This will dramatically improve your battery life especially when you're in areas with poor signal. If you want, you can set it to turn on the data connection at user-defined intervals so emails, google voice, and anything else that needs a data connection to be refreshed periodically can go through. With the paid version, you can even allow exceptions for programs like google music, pandora, or wireless tether, so they can keep the connection while the screen is off if they're in use.
Ill try juicedefender. I had it before but didn't really know what settings to use. Current battery is doing well. I'm curious to if all these people experiencing 20-30 hrs of battery life have data turned off a alot. I'm currently at about 14 hrs. with about 42 percent left. Thanks for all ur advice.

I can easily get over 40 hours with light usage and over 20 hours with moderate usage, but that's only because of JuiceDefender. Without it, my battery drains like crazy at work where there's really bad reception.
I use the customize profile with mobile data enabled, schedule enabled at a frequency of 30 min, and apps enabled when the screen is off for google music, pandora, and wireless tether. I also enable the text notification which puts the icon in the status bar. I've run into problems when I disabled notification where JD gets shut down in low memory situations, but having the icon in the status bar prevents that. I leave wifi, location, and night mode diabled, but that's just because they're not useful for my usage. I'm sure the other profiles work fine as well, but I just like knowing and controlling exactly what JD is going to do.
Try using saveged Zen with conservative governer, viper mod and other little things people have mentioned

I'm going to run JD all day today with those settings to see what it does for battery life with my data on. Yesterday seemed to be the best battery life I've recieved with data off for the majority of the day. Got about 17 hrs with 39% left. I'm happy with that. If JD can get me something like that without having to toggle with data on/off that will be nice.

I've run viper mod with tiamat before and undervolted 50mv with little or no change in the overall performance of the battery. Any suggested settings for savaged zen using viper mod?
Undervolt as much as you can, all phones are different. As for jd, sorry I forgot about that. It's a HUGE improvement. Your battery can pretty much double. It can be a little annoying in some cases.

Didn't really get to do a full trial on battery life yesterday. I downloaded a Sense Rom and tried some troubleshooting that I read on Deck's page but it didn't work. Today will be the first full day I try JD with 3G on. I will probably try viiper mod tomorrow after the results I get for today. Thank for the help guys.

You can't judge in one day.. you have to wait like 3 days of use to let it settle down
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
I believe I have found what i belive is just about the perfect setup for this ROM
My evo is lightning fast, in app performance is almost comparable to my xoom
And with heavy usage my battery lasts at least twenty hours
Kernel: savaged Zen 2.2.1 bfs
Setcpu info: Max clock to 1136, try 1152 if 1136 is stable for Max clock, min 245. Savaged Zen governor, screen off profile with interactivex governor and min bumped to 384mhz. Eliminates all screen on lag
Market app: chainfire 3d its a graphics driver that increases all animations, 3d effects efficiency and speed, and improves battery life IMO follow in app instructions and install the driver, make sure to nand backup first and to not have the phone connected to the charger or computer when installing
Market app: battery calibration wipes battery stats to build new ones that are correct for your ROM kernel setup
Advanced setting in settings menu: performance settings, VM heap size set to 48
Market app : SD booster set SD cache to 3000 makes all SD apps and media faster.
Market app : busy box install 1.18.4
After all this install any user apps you wish and run fix permissions in ROM manager or recovery
Its a lengthy setup, but there is much profit to be had. This setup is faster then I've ever seen an evo run and has the best battery life of any ROM kernel combo I've tested.

Battery life stats and questions

What's a good figure for battery life on the GS3? The best I've got is about 31 hours using on demand and bfq. Any one got better life using other settings? I heard someone getting about 43 hours life but that seemed to be a little unbelievable. Let me know what your getting

What you reported is definitely "the average". Most actually only get a day, if they're lucky of moderate use and have to plug in before sleep every evening and get going on charge in morning. So its more like 15 hours actually. And your 31 max is very common high end for people who've stretched it out.
I'm not sure if you're stock rom or not and if rooted either but that makes a big difference.
I'm rooted ( and would ALWAYS RECOMMEND ROOT FOR EVERYONE EVEN UF NOT FLASHING ANY ROMS AND STAYING ON STOCK. The ability to have full control is important.
Changing kernels and more importantly, undervolting, will give you that longer life you're looking for.
I'm currently on KyanROM with either Ktoonez or Faux kernel (heavily tweaking and testing both) and have this phone beautifully undervolted to exceptionally low and very stable mv numbers! Thus getting me that lovely 36-45hour average (you mentioned you saw posted elsewhere - yes it is possible and many are doing it). I basically only need to plug in every OTHER EVENING or night between 6pm and midnight depending on usage and I'm a moderate to heavy user (with a lovely 3-5 hours of screen time as well) AND I also have my phone overclocked to 1.8Ghz! Surprisingly, the oc doesn't make much battery life impact at all because the phone isn't constantly having to run at high levels, only in short spurts. Actually, due to rooting and kernel change I'm able to have my phone run as low as 192Mhz during much of its general activity and deep sleep ( which I get a ton of as my phone basically always goes into it when the screen goes off). This saves me A LOT of battery life.
I also use LTE, which is actually one of the biggest if not the largest battery hog, next to screen time of course. But with that being said I only use it when needed and have it turned off when not in use.
As for my peak I was able to squeeeeeze out 87 hours once, on my stock battery BUT that was with some abnormal(for me) measures that really help conservation. Ie, no LTE, under clocked to 1.2Ghz for good part of the three days, much less then normal screen time over the period of which I used it at lowest level with even further reduction via screen filter, I actually used airplane mode during my three overnight sleeps (which I seldom use but if you can hack it, do it! It can really save battery overnight. My current setup basically SIPS MY BATTERY AT 1% EVERY 3.5-4 HOURS OVERNIGHT WHEN IN AIRPLANE MODE), mobile data was off for most of time but did use my wifi at normal level (wifi uses less especially if good signal with few reconnects/scans), used my typical low UV numbers, kept my notification updates/syncs/wakelocks to a minimum and lastly kept my memory virtually clear if unnecessary background apps.
Doing ALL of this allowed me to get OVER THREE DAYS BATTERY LIFE. But keep in mind I seldom do many of these battery saving tips on a regular basis but some do and if you can, they WILL work to extend your life substantially!
To wrap up (this long winded post/reply) I'll give you my general UV mv range numbers and the typical everyday simple battery saving methods I use.
1.My voltage at lowest clock of 192mhz=800mv with gradual (smooth and almost linear curve) increase up to a mere 1200mv at a whopping 1.890Ghz clock.
I use NOOP scheduler with ONDEMAND governor most of the time, sometimes SmartassV2.
My screen off and deep sleep use this lowest 192 clock speed and with no wakeup lag.
2. I use my screen at 0% brightness most of the time (except when outside or in high lighting environment). I use the brighrness widget app to control this as it is easier and works better then stock settings. I actually even further reduce my brightness with Scree Filter App. That app is awesome and often use it solely for brightness control because it has full control and can dim it to basically full black if wanted. Which is MUXH lower then stock control. Fyi I use my phone a LOT more at night or in dark environment thus allowing me to dim screen HEAVILY yet it still is actually plenty bright with ample contrast in dark environments to do everything. This saves on my battery HUGE!
3. I use LTE when needed and GSM/HSPA+ when not. Seldom turn of mobile data altogether. I do turn off wifi when out and only using mobile data.
4. I use Screebl app to have screen turn off when not in use. Its great liitle app. Basically let's you turn down screen timeout to 15 seconds or less so screen is never unnecessarily on but it always stays on when in use due to the accelerometer and it knows when the screen is not flat on table! Its very annoying when browsing or doing stuff where screen isn't touched for long periods and the screen goes to sleep! But this stops that! So its always on when upright or in use and when phone down it turns off immediately.
5. Very important step and can take some time and research but making sure to keep partial wakelocks and apps keeping device awake to a bare minimum! DEEP SLEEP IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SAVE BATTERY! You basically want it to go into that every time your screen goes off and to stay in it uninterrupted for as long as possible. And many users phones are NOT making it into deep sleep due to partial wakelocks and they don't even know it or how to fix it. Not getting deep sleep can unnecessarily kill your battery!
I use a few tools here: Better Battery Stats/GSAM Battery Monitor/Battery Monitor Widget from within System Tuner Pro (which is my also my main and highly recommended tuner app for CPU oc/uc and UV,etc.).
These apps really help to determine what, if any, apps are causing partial wakelocks ( displaying in wake number amounts and overall wake time) allowing you to determine what to do to fix the problem and let the phone gets as much battery saving deep sleep as possible.
6.I'm not big on auto app killers and actually recommend against them as Android ICS does this already very effectively but do keep in mind that the more active background memory that is used, the more battery the battery is drained. So I personally kill unnecessary apps myself from the background whenever possible to save a little battery here and there. Using the apps listed above in #5 can really help to detect a nasty background app or service that is quite possibly unknowingly using a ton of CPU and/or memory, thus draining more battery and also often just slowing down your phone!
7. For those who can use it Airplane Mode is a big saver! Try overnights if wanted as long as missing notifications, emails, calls, updates, etc is alright for you. I seldom use it but it does help.
8. I almost never use my Bluetooth and GPS but when I do that is the ONLY time they are on. They get turned off immediately and really be careful with the GPS in particular because you might be surprised how many things on your phone will use it in the background, sucking your battery!
9. Be careful with sound and vibration levels. Haptic feedback too. I don't do much here but its anotherctip nonetheless.
10. Lastly is treating and charging your battery right! I found an amazing site linked down below in a couple of articles that really explains these batteries and how they work in a very in depth technical level this is still not too hard to follow. Aside from the two links I posted check out the others on the left menu as there is a ton of useful and educational info!

OK I've rambled on waaay too long here. Maybe I'll take this and post a battery savings tips thread with it lol. "10 points"!
Btw I've just received both my 3300mAh and 4400mAh capacity batteries. So I have much testing to do on those too and I plan on reporting back on them as well. Also with screenshots for data and proof...I can and will also post screenshots for all of the numbers and stats I've posted here today with my personal phone/battery accomplishments.
Hope this helps some of you out there because yes this phone can be known for terrible battery life but it CAN be tweaked to SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVE that life to high standards and keep up with the best of them!

On Stock battery - Kyan Rom/Ktoonez kernel (at this moment)
Seems about right. My phone is completely stock and if I really wanted to I could even use it for 2 work days. I usually charge it over night though. I used it for 2 days though while at work, and with 3 hours of screen on time I was down to 7% battery. Around 40 hours on.
I was stocked rooted using Sammy kernel. On demand BFQ. I'll try on demand noop and see if that helps. My screen was about 35% brightness.

Can I hijack a little here? My battery seems to be atrocious. It was okay stock after my first 3 full charges I was getting about 12 hours and 2.5 screen time.
Here is what I've done with my phone since:
Flashed to debloated stock Rom
disabled remaining unneeded apps (example ATT wifi app)
disabled Wifi
disabled bluetooth
disabled GPS
disabled GPS autorun states
disabled 4g
disabled autobrightness, set to 15%
disabled location reporting
disabled Push email with Exchange
disabled Motion
disabled auto google backup
disabled keytones and vibrate on all button presses
disabled touch key lights
disabled Svoice
disabled streaming on googleplay, only plays from memory card
disabled Google Now
fixed the cell standby bug (even though it may not impact battery figured wth)
Uninstalled FB
Set all Autosync accounts and email to sync only once per day
No widgets (only Google play music, Smemo note, flashlight, and folders)
Running save power mode for low power screen, no haptic, and auto adjust screen to blacks
Running mostly black wallpaper, No live wallpaper.
Running medium intensity vibration
I ran battery stats and got a lot of wakelocks from googlemaps and exchange so I disabled the push email and set it to once a day. Google maps I disabled latitude, and shut down the autostarts with gemini.
It's getting to the point where the phone is basically a dumbphone just so the battery can make it while it sits next to me at work. Today I have 48% after 8 hours and 50 minute screen time and 20 minutes of google play (only playing from on SD card not streaming).
Any ideas? It seems like I'm getting less than average.
All I did was also flash debloated rooted stock. Set to top out at 1.5ghz power save on. On demand BFQ schedule. Screen brightness as low as I can to still read. And got 32ish hours. I'm going to try OnDemand and noop like the other guy said and UV a lot more and see how close to 40 hours I can get

Can u link me on the bfq? Having troublefinding what that is.
Also, is that the built in power save that limits the processor or some other software?
I believe if you flash Sammy kernel it has bfq. I am on task's CM10 and kernel and battery life seems poor compared to CM9 or stock rooted

Deep Sleep app? How to make it work?

Have the h811 and using the app but don't know if it's working. On slumber mode

The deep sleep battery app? That's the first relevant thing I found in the playstore. And the comments on it don't seem too good.
A lot of folks here will recommend the greenify app instead and picking the apps you want to go into a sleep mode until triggered to wake up.

Yeah that's what I am referring to the deep sleep battery app, I as well am using greenify with xposed module for deeper sleep
With the screen off, you can just swipe down on the off screen to see the time. You will see that your mobile data is shut off. At least this works for me. I can clearly see my LTE symbol disappearing.

To be honest, I have. I also know that it's working because I swipe down when my screen is off and I see that my mobile data has shut off. Last night, I fell asleep without charging my phone at 67% and woke up to.... 67%, I was asleep for about 6 hours. I came from the Sony Xperia Z2 and kept stamina mode on 24/7. I was able to pull off well over 30 hours with that phone. Using deep sleep battery saver (which was based off the same idea as Stamina mode) I definitely noticed a difference in idle battery. Of course, once you get into any sort of task with the screen on then that's a different story.
The LG G4 already had pretty amazing idle times but I have a lot of apps that loves to wake up the phone when I'm sleeping. Before the app, I noticed that I'd wake up to maybe a 5% drain at minimum over the course of 6~7 hours. Sometimes, when my apps update on their own, I'd notice a significant drop of maybe even 10%.
I paid for the app since it's pretty cheap but honestly, I don't notice any real benefit to having the paid version. The paid version allows you to set some whitelist apps which is what Sony's Stamina mode allowed. However, if you're okay with not having that control then the free version is more than enough. Who knows, maybe some people will benefit less from it :/
I just want to make a point that I am also using it in conjunction with Greenify. I'm not sure if using the two really bears any great benefits but under my impression, greenify hibernates user apps while deep sleep can basically prevent anything from accessing data since it also shuts off mobile data. I can't see how using the two would hurt so why not? It looks like they both do different things that combined would be a very powerful battery saver.

I have Greenify as well and my battery life is TERRIBLE on this phone. I am lucky to get 8 hours before going from 100% to under 50%...I have a ton of bloat frozen and a ton of apps Greenified. What system apps are you Greenify'ing? The battery life is killing me on this phone, thank God I got a free battery with the promotion.

I didn't greenify any system apps. I just greenified every single user app that could potentially run while the phone was not in use. I also used tasker to force greenify my facebook app the minute the screen turns off instead of waiting for greenify to activate. I also used kernel adiutor to change the big core's governor to powersave and then changed the LITTLE core's governor to interactive.
Like I said in a previous post, I most use greenify for user apps as I kind of don't want to touch system apps at this moment. I use deep sleep battery saver for anything else that could potentially dodge greenify (like system apps that tries to access data). As all these settings so far are for when the screen is off, the Kernel Adiutor settings are for helping with battery life when the screen is on. I don't think the tasker setting is necessary as it very well could just be a placebo effect but I don't like how facebook isn't hibernated immediately.
So to sum it up; the settings I used:
Greenify all user apps
Use tasker to immediately greenify select apps that are power hungry
Use deep sleep battery saver
Use Kernel Adiutor and set big.LITTLE governors to powersave and interactive
**I should mention that I have the T-mobile H811 model which has an unlocked bootloader with a custom recovery.

Awesome, thanks for the informative reply. One question, wouldn't putting the CPU governor on powersave make the phone run really choppy/laggy? Also, I have the Verizon G4 no unlocked bootloader but root.

Most day to day tasks are done with the "LITTLE" cores while intensive tasks are done using the faster "big" so you won't normally notice any lag since the governor for the littles is interactive. I figured the only time I would really drain my battery is when I'm using intense tasks that would utilize the big cores. You will notice a little lag when in really heavy apps like the camera but it's really not that bad - it's not like a "I'm-going-to-miss-my-shot-because-it's-so-laggy" bad. Just give it a shot and you'll see what I mean. I don't use my phone for gaming but I do use it for almost everything else including streaming videos and I don't notice any lag other than in the camera - which, like I said, isn't that bad. If you do want to tweak around with the governor though, I high recommend Kernel Adiutor since it is compatible with the big.LITTLE system (meaning it can set the separate governor for both big and little cores) unlike Rom Toolbox Pro.
While I can bear with the slight lag for the extra battery life, you may not be able to take it. Your mileage may vary I guess. Battery life is much more important to me than high performance since I don't do anything intense like gaming or heavy rendering and I'm always on the go so I'm willing to make that sacrifice.
For me deep sleep has been giving me battery drain issues and uninstalled it after two days of use on slumber and my custom mode that didn't let no app awake and also the force tune cpu and what not yet still battery drain. With it off battery drains much much more less
