Unable to flash anything but a stock rom. - Samsung Captivate Glide

I have a glide that for whatever reason only works on a stock AT&T ROM. either the gingerbread or the ICS but only stock ROMs. Any custom ROM I flash the phone looses its IMEI and will not function on the network. Once i either restore it from a backup or use the Samsung Kies app to do a firmware reset the IMEI is instantly back and the phone runs fine. I have a backup of the EFS file and once I've flashed a custom ROM if i restore the EFS still no IMEI I am at a loss up to this point any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem and I get the generic imei, I also have an unknown baseband

I'm presently having issues with my phone displaying generic IMEI, but I can still use the phone on my network. I dont know how long I was using this for, but I can't seem to restore my IMEI from my EFS folder. I have a backup of my efs from November when I unlocked my phone using FastGSM. There are some posts in the SG2 forum and youtube videos but they are inconclusive with the testing I have done to restore my stock IMEI. I have a stock EFS backup that I'm attempting to hex edit but it isn't a rogers one so I'm really fingers crossed hoping for the best.
In the meantime, try and revert back to stock GB on your phones grabbing the firmware from Samfirmware ... sometimes you'll get your IMEI back, if you do backup the efs folder on your phone ASAP save it safe .. email it to yourself or do something static where the file will be saved in a unique place that it can't be changed.
I'll post a how-to if I get mine restored .... otherwise I'm really not sure what to do. It's super complicated to get it back without sending it in for service.

No basisband, IMEI unknown: EFS corrupt?

Hello,
i have the note 2 lte from my friend. He tried to root but i don't know what he did. He says that he flashed a "bootloader" but it was for the s3. I think i took the auto-root but flashed it in the "bootloader" and not "pda" in Odin.
The phone didn't boot.
I flashed a complete stock rom. Now it boots but IMEI is unknown and no basisband information. I made a first EFS backup here. I tried to flash a modem but it didn't help.
After several tries i get the "hidden menu" with EFS Professional. Now the NVTool works. I can read the IMEI over it. In the phone is the right IMEI so i don't need an injection.
Restore the EFS with my backup above don't help. I tried to make a factory default with Kies but it didn't help.
What is wrong? What can I do? Maybe the partition table is corrupted and so it has no baseband firmware? Why doesn't it show his IMEI when the NVTool (EFS Professional) can read it?
Thanks for your help and sorry about my bad english.

No, because my friend flashed "something" in the bootloader and bricked the phone. He gave me the phone.
I flashed a stock firmware over Odin, the phone boots and at this time it shows no baseband version and no imei in the settings menu.
I made an EFS backup but it was (maybe) already corrupted. I flashed older stock roms, modems only and tried the factory reset in Kies, nothing helped.
The NVTools in EFS Professional 2.0.35 shows me a correct imei number!

[Q] No IMEI means radio is broken?

Phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus GT-i9250TSGGen
I had a stock android version, that I never rooted or flashed. Suddenly the SIM stopped working, I figured out that there is no IMEI number and the baseband is unknown.
I flashed to a custom ROM, and tried to do few things using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit:
1) custom ROM android 4.1
2) Flashed a custom radio
3) made a copy of the /efs folder, deleted the original and replaced it after restart.
The Samsung service center said the entire board has to be changed, with an estimated cost of $140 USD.
Can someone help me with my options? Is it definitely a hardware problem? is there anyway to know for sure?

I had an old nandroid back up and I used the method in this post to fix my IMEI problem: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47048361&postcount=9
And when you said you took a back up of the /EFS folder, you meant pulled the .bin and .md5 files from the /factory or the /radio folders OR did you use something like kTool? Because, as people have pointed out in other threads there is no /EFS folder for the Galaxy Nexus. The IMEI information is stored in the Radio and Factory Folders. For more information on how IMEI works on the GNEx, refer to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47045295&postcount=6
But you are saying the baseband is also unknown. A radio flash should have fixed it. Try restoring Stock ICS using Odin. i hear this fixes some problems like this. U can use thus guide forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065470
If Odin is a little complicated, try the Nexus Root Tool kit. U gotta experiment to find the right problem and them fix it. No other go. I doubt that replacing the board will solve it as it looks like a software issue, unless you fried your radios.

Thanks again. Yes, the /efs folder is not where it was supposed to be. I did find the correct location and moved it. I will try using your ideas. Just one more question:
Since I had not done anything that would wipe out my IMEI number (neither software hacking nor physical damage). I wonder why this problem suddenly occurred. Just to eliminate a possibility, how can I know for sure that I have not "fried the radios"?
Appreciate your help. If I know that it is a software problem, I can continue to play with the Nexus toolkit and try different solutions.

I'm not sure how to check if your radio is fried. Basically, it means something's wrong with your hardware, where you experience occasional or complete signal loss. But in your case, you lost your IMEI. So, back up your nv_data files, flash using NRT or ODIN and see what happens.
NRT will push the stock radio while doing the "Flash Stock + Unroot" Option. So, you'll get the stock baseband as well. This should fix it. If your IMEI still doesn't work, try restoring the nv_data.bin and md5 files you backed up as mentioned in the link I posted.
Let me know how it works out. :good:
Always make a backup of /EFS (Support in both PhilZ_CWM & TWRP )for safety, though the IMEI would be only wiped by CWM wipe /factory option......happened to me a few days back, luckily i got my /efs restored & flashing stock doesn't bring any IMEI back since it's actually phone specific plus comes with a proper MD5 !!
the above method should work and here more info on the EFS

STILL NOOO HELP
Please me, i have lost my IMEI saying NULL / NULL and im getting not registered on error. I have not backed up ESF folder as well.
Struggling from last 5 days to fix it up. some how i got Modem_N7100XXDMG1 and flashed. After that i have got some fake IMEI.
Tried flashing STOCK ROM 4.4.2, but still no luck.
Read on some forum that MODEM of 4.1.2 or J.B 4.3 resolves this issue but when i try to downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.3 via ODIN it straight away shows FAILS in RED
IM using Note N7100 K.K.4.4.2
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME.
If you have no backup and the stock ROM did not work, they you are pretty much out of luck. I had a backup but the IMEI didn't come back until I flashed a different modem. I used modem_XXDME4.
If you know what your IMEI number was, then there are ways to write that number directly into the phone. Need to send the phone to someone that has the hardware though. You can buy it yourself but it costs about the same as a motherboard replacement. Youtube "N7100 Android 4 3 imei repair z3x" to see what I'm talking about.
If you don't know the number, don't have a backup, then you'll have to change the motherboard.
You can find your IMEI number on the back of your phone though.. Pull out the battery, it's printed above your device's serial number.
I have my IMEI, i just wanted the solution through software can i change my IMEI or i have to go service center that would cost about Rs. 5000 minimum.
modem_XXDME4 is S3 modem, how can i flash it on note 2 N7100.
PLEASE HELP
@dineshdotcom2000 have you tried different modem? I had the same problem like yours and flashing my region's modem didn't solve the problem. I flashed European modem - modem_XXDME4 - and the dummy IMEI changed back to the original. Maybe you should give it a try.
Here is the link https://www.dropbox.com/s/5mrtz2c6s29ibxt/modem_XXDME4__.zip
I flashed the exact same file on my device and it worked. Good luck :good:

I have already used this modem. Right now i have some fake imei with "004999010640000/1 i want to replace this IMEI with my original imei on Note 2 N7100.
Any way to do it???
Please help
Find a service in india that has a z3x box. They can write the IMEI directly without swapping the motherboard.
just search, a few days ago there was the same problem solved probably in Q&A thread

INVALID/00 [re-write] IMEI without any backup

As there's no solutions yet for the problems above hope you guys or some devs. can help/produce some solutions.. more specific situations:
1. you never backup the imei numbers
2. device totally bricked (fatal error/failed while flashing fastboot rom).
3. device fall into qhsusb_bulk, which no fastboot or recovery access..
4. bring it back to live with testpoint process(hardware) jtag likes on other devices.
5. its back to live with known baseband, esn but the 00/invalid imei.
what to achieves :
1. find ways to bring back its default imei numbers.
ive do some research and ive start a thread on miui forums too
you can see it here http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=166001&mobile=2
some people does have this problems too.
Anyone who wanna contributes some help some posible files needed to make it work:
1. A QCN backup from working/normal phones
2. NV backup files, again from normal phones with imei
#how to access/enable qualcomm port acessible you must be in MIUI 5(must as it wont detected on pc when youre in miui6/7), you have to flash it with fqstboot rom.. and dial this secret code *#*#717717#*#* make sure that you have qualcomm drivers installed.
update*
succesfully loaded its default imei (sim1) and don't know how about the sim2 rewrite..

I too lost my basesband, imei and wifi mac address.
But i got them back after restoring a few efs partitions that i downloaded from a blog I found.
It seems that I cannot post any links so i added some spaces in the url
Here is the url- www . amw-android.my . id/2015/05/fix-imei-baseband-xiaomi-redmi-1s.html?showComment=1445024870694#c3080464083769125141
did that procedures.. at the 1st try but seems its not working for me as my situation is Baseband is safe (not unknown) but the imei was 0..
CLOSED!!!! Since i succesfully write down the SIM1&2 IMEI, but still cannot get any signal, seems EFS partitions totally breaks
I had the same issue. Then I flashed with the fastbootrom country specific, i did India based using miphone flasher. In this you need to specifically select flash_all.bat, so that it erases the entire IMEI and updates with default from your phone. Once you do that, it restores the baseband MIUI rom. Then you can flash TWRP and then any custom rom. This worked very well for me and I could use my phone. Also the both the sim cards are restored.
Strange that, after flashing the Indian Fastboot ROM, i ended up with known Baseband, Wifi address. But IMEI still invalid or 0.
Any help please?
Thanks

IMEI unknown

Hi
I flashed to stock Jellybean and rooted my GT-i8160 (UK) version. Everything seemed fine except my IMEI is blank and shows 'unknown' in settings/about.
I did not backup the EFS partition/data but I understand that the IMEI is not stored there on the GT-i8160??
Anyhow, what do I need to do to write/hexedit the IMEI back to the phone so it can detect a SIM?
Baseband displays correctly.
Please help.
thanks.

Well, I did a bit more research and i think the only way forward with this is to use it as a brick or pay money out for hardware that can restore the IMEI back.
Can anyone suggest an altenrative method restoring the IMEI back?
I would highly suggest you finding stock gingerbread ROM on Google then open Kies and update it there to jelly bean. If that will not fix then I dunno.
