[Q] Google Play Music - Sprint LG Optimus G

I have recently uploaded my whole music library to google play for the reason that I didn't want to have all my music saved on my device. I thought with this I could just stream my music without saving it to my device but it seems that after I stream a song it is then downloaded to my device and taking up space. Is there some way to disable it from keeping it on my device?

I believe it caches songs so that you don't use more data by having to reload the whole song if you play it frequently. You can turn "automatically cache" off in the settings.

Stealyourface is correct. Although, I leave mine on cache, as I work in a cave about half the time, so it's nice to have some recently played music stored. I've also never found it to take up more than a coupe hundred MBs, and that's with alot of use.

And yes, the cache constantly gets purged, so it's not storing anything for very long.

[Q] Bluetooth streaming

Hi guys, I did a search and I can't find anything on this, if it's already been answered I do apologize. I've got a kenwood stereo in my car that connects to the phone and streams music over bluetooth. I've used this on my last 2 phones (Samsung Epic, and HTC EVO) with no problems. Now with the Galaxy SII, i can't stream music. It will connect and do voice calls no problem, but when i try to play music, it just skips through every song on the list and then freezes. The only time it worked was the first time I connected it to my stereo. Has anyone else had this problem? Since I use Google Music, all of my music is streamed and I have to do it through bluetooth, this has become quite a pain!
i'm on a clarion CZ 509 no problem streaming from my phone to the car
it does it automatically as soon as the car is in the phone range
which some times is kinda annoying, when you don't want it to auto stream
Yeah, mine will connect automatically and phone calls and dialing work with no issues. It's just streaming music. I'm going to try and delete my phone from the deck and re-connect it, hopefully that works. I'm trying to avoid having to replace my phone or do a hard reset.
my deck can save up to 5 phones pairing
so i just assigned a new profile to the SGS2 when i got it
the other ones registered are my old I9000, XT720 and Nexus S
there is another trick you can use
in the phone in the BT profile after pairing, hold the profile for 2 sec, it will pop up a sub menu, in which you can choose both option or only 1 of them
in which case it's BT audio, or BT phone
so play around with that and see
another thing which i don't know if your deck allows you to do is to Pair the phone as a Media device, or Phone device
so in my deck can can pair the phone to be only as a phone device, or only as a media device, or both
I tried messing around with those options, however it either disconnects the phone completely (unchecking the phone box) or just plays the music through the phone (unchecking the media box). I tried streaming another song through the stock music app, and that worked, so I think it may be google music itself. I had downloaded the ICS version, so now i'm trying to downgrade back to current. I'll have to check to see if works later, as now it won't connect to my account to grab all of my music. Thanks for the replies though, I'll keep this updated incase anyone else has the same issues.
now that you mention it, that might be it
the DRM license thing kicking in
i just found that was causing some random crash on my phone as well, removed music 4.0 and installed another music player, now everything is back to normal
i use jukefox to play music, it automatically creates everything that is necessary, like albums, auto get the missing album covers, etc, etc...
1 button does it all
then you just pick or randomly choose what you want to hear, easy music browsing for when you are driving
Yeah it's definitely a google music issue on my phone. The stock player works fine, but that doesn't help me, I keep all of my music uploaded to the google cloud, and have no way to access it right now. Even with the regular current apk I am having issues. I'll have to wait and see if they can update it for this drm issue I think. For now I'll just use the current stock player and fill up my sd card and play off of that
that's what i do
i play it off my SD card
get a 32 GB or 64 GB and you'll have plenty of space to load all your favourite albums
i keep several copies of 32 GB for different albums / movies
So just a followup to this, I did a hard reset today on my phone and it still doesn't help. Turns out, it only does this when connected through bluetooth, and it's a song that's been "made available offline". If i'm actually streaming a song, there are no issues, but any of my playlists or albums that are saved won't play through bluetooth (they will play normally however). Hopefully this can be fixed in an update through Google Music.
So, i've had this issue as well and it appears to be something to do with "shuffle".
At first I disconnected bluetooth and then started playing the music on my phone and made sure to turn ON shuffle..I then turned bluetooth back on in my radio and once it connected...all was well. I didn't like this solution and decided I needed to find an alternative.
I then downloaded the MIUI music app (which has always been my favorite) and the music streaming is working normally now
Was this an issue that you experienced with the google music beta app, or just the standard music player that came with the phone? Mine has only had issues on the music beta app, and it didn't matter if i had shuffle on or not. I've been using the standard music app that came installed on the phone and have had no issues since. On another note, does anyone know if you can see album art through bluetooth? I'm able to get song , artist, and album info, but I've never seen album art come through yet. I'm not sure if this is something bluetooth can handle or not.
Stock app. I just installed music beta and it seems to work fine like miui music

I take that back, music "beta" just did it to me too. Back to miui

Google Music Shuffle Horrible

I have almost 500 songs, and love not having to think about what song is on what device, but for some reason every other song is from the same few albums when shuffling. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yep, same here. I have 700+ songs and a lot of songs get repeated. I just bought power amp and its WAY better than any music player out there. Check it out.

Try wiping cache for music. Also make sure you dont have any other google music app on your phone.
I've got over 19,000 songs and have never had a problem with Google Music.
I have almost 20gigs of music and it'll play the same few songs over and over

20K songs and I get the same 5 songs playing back to back every few hours plus many of the same songs play several times during my 8 hours at work.
Irritating!
Google Music has been a disappointment from the beginning. The album image resolution looks like crap. They reduce everything to 128k bitrate for streaming, the only way to play is to use playlists or to set up a queue. Trying to stream over wireless is pointless. Pandora, Tune-In and Amazon player are fine, Google Music only works for me on wifi (no wimax here)
I navigate to what I want and hit play. This is apparently the old fashioned method because the big players don't really work that way. They want you to have a (mocking voice)-library and playlists. So I end closing the app in frustration.
Anyway, sorry to go on like that. I'm not a fan.
Effin google still hasn't fixed this issue. I've heard the same sh*t over 20 times now.
The shuffle in the new play music app is even worse. Never actually shuffles.

[Q] Backup playlists from crashing Google Play Music app?

Hi! I used Google Play Music app great for months.
Today, I opened it. It didn't find any of my music, except the one song I bought from Google Play (all the music is still on the phone, taking up 6GB of space). Consistently, the app will crash about 10 seconds after I open it. It will lock up and then a few seconds later display "Unfortunately, Google Play Music has stopped."
Any ideas of what's up?
And, if not, I guess uninstall/reinstall is the best option. Do you know if the "thumbs up" / ratings are saved somewhere if I uninstall/reinstall it? Basically, are the playlists backed up somewhere?
Thanks in advance,
P.S. Stock, no root.

No idea how to save/recover playlists, so I said fudge it. Uninstalled, reinstalled: nothing.
Found out you can call Google for support on Play apps: http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/request.py?contact_type=contact_policy&policy=apps
They don't know what's up, either, but they're investigating and will get back.
Will update when I hear,
Just heard yesterday:
"We're aware of an issue with the Google Music app and are working on a fix. This issue will be resolved in the next update release."
Yeah! You go, Google!
Well, I got tired of using other players, so I diagnosed some more.
I removed all my music, edited since tags of the FLAC files I had, and imported my music back, but into my SD card this time.
Now, Google Music works perfectly! Unsure on the problem or whatever Google is attempting to fix, but it's all solid now.
Had similar issue but got so bad i reflashed rom and gapps lol, turn music up in the music app caused music fx to stop, then music app stopped then settings stopped then launcher stopped, even third party apps stopped like audio manager and doubletwist. Had been playing with pimp my rom app so thought maybe that and its interaction with my PA rom (v2.99b6) (thanks to molesarecoming) was a possible cause, but i did update google music yesterday so maybe it was that. After reflash all seems ok now no glitches, made me have a full noob panic attack though so thanks google

maps and google music trouble

i've noticed that since updating to jellybean my google play music only works for a couple songs then stops playing. the doesn't force close and i can scroll around but nothing plays. today my maps kept force closing for no reason, anyone else seeing these issues? my phone is fully stock and unrooted.
This happened to me, too for the Play music -exactly like you describe. I'm sorry I don't know anything about how or why - but just letting you know you're not alone. I was also stock and unrooted at the time. I haven't tried it since so I don't know if anything I've done since then would make a difference. Would like to give the streaming a chance in the future, but it freezing is a worry for me if I'm going to spend money.
I just switched to a different player and haven't had the same issues. Were you streaming or playing from sd card ? I was playing from the sd card and I have wondered if this was part of the problem (just providing information in case it helps someone else).
i was streaming. i know if i restart my phone it works again for a few songs then stops.
i tried doing a factory reset on my phone in hopes that maybe something got corrupt during the update. it did not help. i think i figured out the maps problem. having the satellite layer on seems to be what kept causing maps to crash. i've never had this problem before though.
i decided to try using the play music widget instead of the app. it's been playing for 6 or 7 songs now, where as when i've used the app it would stop playing after 4-5 songs. so hopefully if i continue to use the widget instead i won't have any more problems.
well my play music is back to not working after a few songs even going through the widget.

Google Play Music Keeps Forgetting Track Place

I usually use Play Music to listen to podcasts or other long-form programming. On my Nexus 5, generally the music app did a good job of always remembering where the track position was, even through restarts. But on the 5X with marshmallow, the music app seems to constantly reset itself, reboot and lose track of where I was in a particular podcast.
A similar thing happens with Google maps or other apps. I'll have a route plugged in, then bounce over to check some messages or Facebook and when I go back to Google maps it relaunches from scratch and has lost the route info or what I was searching for.
Both the 5 and the 5x have 2Gb of RAM, but I assume this must be related to how Marshmallow handles memory and basically puts some apps to sleep to make room for others. Is there any solution for this? Is there a way to flag certain apps and prevent them from shutting down even as I'm jumping between other apps?
I tried setting Play Music to "Not Optimized" under Battery Optimization, but that had no effect.
