When navigating in maps I still get a voice telling me to turn but it no longer says the street names. I'm sure it's some kind of setting or conflict but I can figure out what caused the voice turn by turn to stop saying the street names.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
You only get the names if you have tts enabled. Check your settings.
nispen,
Thanks for the reply. In TTS settings there's nothing there to change or set or turn off/on. It looks like I can install Ivona TTS but what happened to the one that comes with Android?
Sorry, I don't know. The reason I suspected tts, is that I have my phone language set to English but live in the Netherlands. When using Navigation, my phone would ask me if wanted to use and download tts files for voice guidance. Of course I ticked Yes. Then I got this horrible electronic voice trying to pronounce Dutch street names using English pronunciation algorithms. Unintelligible.
So I uninstalled TTS and from that moment on, I did still receive voice guidance, but, just as you describe, limited to turn left, turn right, straight ahead etc. No more reading out of street names.
This is why I thought your problem might have tondo with missing tts files, at least for your language. There is no way of telling Google Navigation to use a different language than the default ui language. Stupid, but there it is.
If that's not the issue, I am stumped.
Good luck. Please update if you find a solution.
I fixed it by doing a factory reset. The TTS voices returned.
Fortunately, I had backups of all my app data via Carbon Backup.

My buddy has Nuance Dragon Dictation on his iPhone. The other day, in an effort to show off, he turned it on while I was talking (slight invasion of privacy lol). Initially I refused to speak but I saw what he was doing and started talking I was very impressed with how accurate it was. Now I want to be the show off and get this working on my phone, but unfortunately there is no version for Android yet.
Today, I decided to try both the new version of Google Voice Search and Vlingo Voice search. No matter what I do, I cannot get either program to recognize anything I say even though I am speaking perfectly clear English. Is there something special I have to do to get this to work right?
I just tried Vlingo. Works great!!!
I tried setting an alarm but for some reason it still forces a Google search, despite processing the command correctly. How do I fix this?
Also, Google Now doesn't talk back even though I set everything to US English. It forces a browser search, rather than the built-in in browser like what various videos show.
I'm having identical issues, although I can get my phone to talk back.
If I ask "Who is the prime minister of Australia" it will talk back the answer to me.
But if I ask it to set a reminder or to send a message it just does a Google search.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Set the Devices language to "English (United States)", this is in the main settings not the "Google Now" (Settings->Language & input). The other voice/input language options can be whatever you want.
You should be able to tell if it worked as the Google Search should now have mountains as a background rather than being blank, and in the Google Now app's settings the first option should show up as "Google Now" not "Now Cards".
The only problem is now the weather is in Fahrenheit
EDIT: This can just be set back in the setting for the Weather card
It shows the background for a second and it disappears. I was probably redirected to the local Google region-specific site. Is there a setting I can change to make the search engine google.com?
Does someone know what APK I need to add or what to add back in? I cleaned up some Samsung stuff including S-Voice and apparently Google Voice Typing is not an option for me on 4.1.2 stock Fr. I did remove3 "Google Now" ... I bet that did it. Any idea how I can get good old "Google Voice Typing" back as an input method?
I'm pretty sure (but not 100% positive) that Voice Search is rolled into the actual Google Search app (which also houses Google Now), so you're likely correct in your assumption.
Google Voice Search is available on the Market and it works (I installed it to test), but it does not bring back my "Google Voice Typing" input option under Languages and Input / Keyboards. I backed everything up meticulously before removing anything, but cannot seem to get the little microphone back so I can give voice inputs to email etc. S-Voice doesn't fix this either
bump ... please help?
Hello everybody,
i usually use a lot Google Maps and i've always been annoyed by this thing: i've installed IVONA Text-to-Speech HQ (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivona.tts) (which i suggest because it's great) as my default TTS Engine, but Google Voice keeps switching between Ivona and his internal TTS (the Google one, i think).
So, 10 phrases are said by IVONA, 2 or 3 by Google, and so on for all the trip.
I hate it, mostly because the Google TTS can't spell (italian) road names and gives only vague informations.
I've even tried to freeze Pico-TTS with Titanium, but it doesn't change a thing.
Any suggestions?

Noone else has any idea?
Hi all!
I got my RM8P yesterday. I really like the device, but definitely see the software lackings that everyone has mentioned.
My current bugs:
1. I copied my data from my Pixel 6 Pro to the RMP8. It also copied the lock screen text I had "My Google Pixel 6 Pro, *****es". So when I go into personalized setting to try to change this text, it won't let me. When I click the option, it just goes back to the Settings menu.
2. More importantly, my voice dictation/voice to text functionality is now broken. It was fine until this afternoon when I updated a bunch of apps in Play Store. Now, no voice dictation is working for any app. I've tried every possible app and rebooting. The OK Google still works so it's "hearing" my voice in general.
Any feedback?
Thanks!
EDIT: I figured out that enabling Google Assistant (Hey Google) broke the voice dictation. Strange that it breaks it.

I was about to tell you that disabling hey google fixed the dictation thing. The first os layer is funny af, it does that and doesn't carry the swipe between apps gesture. And a bunch of things, I worked the hey google with the swipe from a corner gesture tbh I don't use Google assistant that much but still it was a thing

I don't use hey Google assistant too often, but I do use it occasionally. It's just strange that I have to choose between enabling that functionality and enabling voice dictation. I guess I'll choose the voice dictation and give up Google assistant or enable it when I feel I need to use it at times. I'm not sure it's a Red Magic thing as it may be a broader Android thing.

Pretty sure it's only a redmagic thing. Their support has been largely useless when I attempted to alert them to this issue.

Hello, I have Alexa installed as the main assistant, if you select it as the default transcription program, it already works for you to transcribe messages. The failure after several tests I have realized that when you select Google as an assistant it stops working, the mobile does not listen to you. I have already opened several incidents on the Magic network page but they only tell me that I formatted the mobile.
