Solved: Unable to root Lenovo p770, tried everything - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Edited: Rooted successfully. Not sure what was going wrong earlier but the following post and download links in it are comprehensive and worked for me.
Refer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220275
------
I have tried all the methods posted here on this site and others but am aunable to root my Lenovo p770.
I can confirm that:
1. I have preloader and USB drivers installed and the device shows up in the device manager.
2. Using SP Flash Tools, I can "read back" partitions on the device and have made backups of the boot, recovery and android.img of the stock ROM.
3. I have tried flashing recovery.img from various sources that were confirmed successful and have also geenrated my own TDRP using Varun Chitre's script but am unable to flash any of them to the device.
4. I am running all programs as administrator.
I suspect that something is preventing me from writing to the device whereas read is fine (as "read back" works). I have used multiple USB cables and running the process on 2 computers and on Win7 and WinXP ... just to be sure that there is no hardware or operating system issue. Also, while using the Bin4ry method, I get the error "permission denied (are you root)", which has been mentioned elsewhere but not resolved properly.
Is it something to do with the sec_ro partition which is preventing flashing of the device?
Please help. Other information from MTK Phone Tools which might be helpful in resolving this problem is below:

seems you have upgraded official rom initially.try back to the previous rom then try using super one click root soft. if it helps or not.

you can try this method
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/lenovo-p770-6/

i have exactly the same ROM Lenovo P770_ROW_S110_130204 and i got it rooted using flashtools. Clockworkmod recovery and root by javum.

Q How do I downgrade dhd using a mac

I use a mac, and all the info I have found about downgrading only relates to connecting to a pc.
I cant seem to find any info about downgrading using mac os. can this be done? if so, could you point me in the right direction to where i can find info on how to do this. thanks.
The actual commands used are universal whether on windows, linux or mac. Also the packages used are run on the phone itself therefore as long as you know how to use terminal and have the android sdk on your mac you should be good to go. I can try to help you along the way however its been a while since I rooted my phone.
P.S. Please can you provide a full list of your phones current firmware etc..
android version 2.3.3

Build number 2.36.405.8 CL47853 Release keys
software No. 2.36.405.8
I have never used terminal but have just had a look, and it seems straight forward enough, use to do a bit of programming back in the day when the zx spectrum was all the rage back in the 80's.
only just starting to get back into messing about with stuff, so if you could keep every thing as simple as possible i would be much appreciated.

Ok, first things first, you need to download the android sdk from here, following this, download GingerBreak DHD. Now you have the sdk and GingerBreak downloaded you should extract the sdk .zip and place the whole folder in your home directory.
Let me know when you have done this.

I found myself with the same problem not long ago, eventually I gave up trying and ended up using parallels to simulate a Windows PC on my mac - saved me a lot of trouble

i tried to downgrade dhd from my mac lion.. obviously i dont have htc sycn but i did install adb sdk thingy..

i followed instruction from

since lion terminal command is little bit different, so i tweaked adb to ./adb (from http://esausilva.com/2010/10/02/how-to-set-up-adb-android-debug-bridge-in-mac-osx/) but still following the basic command.
everything is responding except when i try to debug, terminal say

any idea?

You're first step should be downgrading Hboot from 1.01.002 to 1.01.001 because Revolutionary doesnot supports hboot 1.01.002
Which u currently have.

Try this guide for setting up adb, if you follow it correctly adb should run from any command prompt regardless of whether the files are in the right folder.

I dont remember exactly but i think the problem was solved when i installed htc sync again 2nd time and then unistalled, leaving the drivers.

I think I'm at the edge, almost, of giving up on rooting this HTC Wildfire.
Luckily for me, parents receive an iPod as a bonus from a direct selling (Melaleuca), and past it on to me, so at least now I still can play games.

thank you for providing this tool, but unfortunately it does not work for me.
When I start the root tool, I get a cmd console with some symbols I don't know (don't know any Chinese? and neither does my computer ) and I click a key to continue 2 times. Then I only get this message again and again:
Code:
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
CreateProcess failure, error 123
* failed to start daemon *
error: cannot connect to daemon
adb drivers are installed and usb debugging is enabled (both SuperOneClick v2.3.3 and Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v30 could talk to the phone - but failed to root it).
Is there any additional information provided in the Chinese text about necessary steps, that I have to do for this to work?
Thank you in advance!

There is no extra steps to take. I wonder whether other software are ocuppying the connection, or the driver is not right. After press Enter key twice, it should be looked like this:
请按任意键继续. . .
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *

google services and apps could be installed. Google Play, Gmail Google Sync is working here. I think you need to install a customized recovery so as to flash the google things (need to match the right version for android 4.1.2), or you could also use a google app installer to do that in several click away. With Root you could do anything, the only limitation is your hacking ability. To uninstall preinstalled apps, You could use RE file manager, or simply do it in command line after install terminal app.
Command line:
Code:
su
mount /system -o rw,remount
cd /apps
rm -rf NAMEOFAPP
How to root
hey gyus i also got this phone in India with spice mobiles.......how to root it.
can we try Unlock root.
Should not be difficult.
So, I can't get this to work, either.
Very important question, first: Is the 7295a the same as the 7295+? (I have the 7295a.) If not, is there a rootkit out there somewhere for the 7295a?
If they are the same phone:
I have enabled USB Debugging on my phone, and it is active.
Should USB Mass Storage be running on my Android phone, or not? (I have tried it both ways, with no success.)
Does the app need to be running in Administrator mode?
Should I install the USB Storage driver that the phone comes with beforehand?
What kinds of software could be interfering with the phone? I have nothing running which I would expect to be interacting with the phone (other than the USB software on the phone itself).
Cheers.
Success

Hi xda members,
I bought an awesome Chinese phone (I live in Shanghai) :
Model: Coolpad 7295+
Android: 4.1.2 (jelly bean)
Kernel version: 3.4.5, [email protected] #1, Tue Apr 23 19:09:37 CST 2013
Build number: 4.1.019.P0.130423.7295+
Hardware version: P0
I have tried many solutions so far, but nothing have worked. If anyone knows any universal way to root, I take it.

Hey I rooted this phones Indian clone by Eroot v1.3.4.exe
cwm
Can anyone help me how to install cwm on Coolpad 9275+ ?? I've already root this phone.
The absolute simplest way I have found to root this phone is download SRSRoot for Android. Just make sure you have the correct drivers and ADB installed on your computer. Enable USB Debugging and Unknown Sources in your Settings and you are good to go. Just follow the instructions in the SRSRoot and you will have a fully rooted phone with Super User installed!
Check out: http://www.srsroot.com
Try using framaroot

Yes Framaroot works.
I rooted this phone using Framaroot.
For CWM you can use MTK Droid Tools to make one and flash it using SP Flash tools or Mobile Uncle Tools.
I maked one for myself using Mtk Droid Tools and flashed it using MobileUncle Tools. It was CWM v5.5.
I then flashed Carliv Touch Recovery as it looks better and is of higher CWM version 6.0.4.4 .
I also have TWRP 2.4.4 for this device and it works well too.
If someone needs CWM/TWRP recovery image's for this device, I can upload it.

Try using Carliv Touch Recovery Port tool for MT65XX devices.
I used it and works very well.
Base CWM 6.0.4.4, Carliv Touch v 2.2
Enable USB debugging and connect the phone to the computer.
Install ADB USB Drivers.
Open Carliv Touch Recovery Port Tool v2.2 in your computer.
Choose Automatically..
It will prepare recovery for the device and will then flash it automatically.
Your device will then reboot to the new Carliv Touch Recovery.
Cheers!
If you want TWRP for this device, I can upload it for you.
Please upload the carliv recovery.

Hey there,
I too own this device and it is very easy to root this device. Just install framaroot by sideloading the apk available on xda. Then ope the app and select any of the methods to exploit the linux to root. After that when prompted to reboot, reboot the phone and that's it. Your phone is rooted!

PurpleDrake fails on LG G3 (LG-D852)

I have a new LG-D852 (aka LG G3) running on Canadian provider Fido and I want to root it but PurpleDrake failed (running Linux):
Code:
Waiting for device... Found device!
Your phone is a [ LG-D852 ] on [ RGS ] running SW version [ V20d ] ...
Alright. We're ready to go. We're going to temproot your phone first. Press enter when you're ready!
Press [enter] to continue...
Rebooting phone...
Waiting for device... .................................... Found device!
Found device, checking if vulnerable...
ERROR: Your phone is not running a compatible software version. No vulnerable mode detected, rebooting phone.
We tried to temproot you, and it didn't work. This phone isn't vulnerable, it would appear.
Please post on XDA with your phone model, carrier, and SW version in the PurpleDrake thread and someone will take a look.
Your phone has been rebooted back to normal system mode, no changes have been made. Thanks for trying!
Is there a better or more effective way to root the phone?
Assuming V20d is Lollipop, try the first method (one-click script) from this thread...
[GUIDE][ROOT] Newest Root Method for LG devices
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197
If the script fails, then run the commands from the second method. This after downloading and extracting the "New_LG_Root_v0.1_by_dig.zip" file from the OP.
None of the methods listed have worked for me. Is there something I'm missing?
Post a pic w/ the Command Prompt open, showing the results of each command run using the second method.
Since I don't have a Windows machine, the Windows tools won't work for me, so I should have been more specific in that the Linux-compatible tools aren't working for me. PurpleDrake says my phone isn't vulnerable. The other rooting methods listed in the spreadsheet fail as well saying my phone has been patched.
It's a D852 V20d, running Lollipop on Fido (which is the same as Rogers Canada now). If you have a Linux version of the Windows tools you can point me to, I'm happy to try again. As it stands, digital-bug's method is Windows-only.

After some extensive Google exploitation, I discovered this thread which offers a Linux tool that does the same thing Send_Command.exe does, but using a Python script, and that worked. My phone is now successfully rooted.
additional information
Worked for me too, if anybody else finds this, I've combined the python script mentioned above with these instructions :
www DOT androidrooting DOT org SLASH new-root-method-to-easily-root-all-lg-devices (I'm a new user here and cant yet post true URL, sorry)
Replace any mention of adb.exe with your Linux version of adb (from the Android SDK, or elsewhere).
For Step 10, run "python qcdlcomm.py" script. It may not work the first time, I had to install pyserial (or python-serial) package, then unload / reload some kernel modules as specified by the script. Once you get the # prompt, you can enter the command line from Step 11 as-is.

[kernel][Z3+ dual][32.4.A.1.54](TWRP, dm-verity,DRM Keys)

Hello guys.
Today i will post a kernel that i (just run the wizard to) created for Z3+ DUAL variant version 32.4.A.1.54. My simple contribution! I'm no responsable for bricks or 3º global war if this kernel make something bad. I sold my device so i created this kernel by historical method.
PLUS: Old Kernel version - 32.3.A.2.33 / 32.2.A.0.253 / 32.2.A.0.305 / 32.2.A.5.11 / 32.3.A.0.372 / 32.3.A.0.376.
This kernel contents (newest one):
-TWRP
-dm-verity disabled
-fake DRM key
-Ric Disabled
Maybe works :
-SafetyNet
-Pokemon Go / Android Pay support
If you install the Magisk, maybe you can have the root and use Android Pay / POGO.
Update 8
Based on the new firmware 54. Same features like previous version. In this version i disabled the RIC, so pay attention to don't something stupid. LOL
Update 7
7.23.1
I made a test and in the previous version we cannot bypass safetynet. So i remove the busybox from this image. Using Magisk + MagiskSu i was able to bypass Safetynet.
7.23.0
Based on the new firmware 33. Same features like previous version.
Update 6.22
6.22 update: From root kernel thread: "Bug in the vendor overlay creation. Existing directories (like /vendor/bin) have not been replicated correctly".
6.00 update: Same features from update 5 but using the new firmware 376 as base. Expect a better battery life and sound issues fix.
Update 5
If you have a backup from your TA partition you can use it to get a better compatibility with sony features. At this time this kernel support superuser as an alternative to SuperSU and fix in the overlay layout which could prevent some libraries from loading and cause battery drain.
Update 4
At this moment we don't have a workaround for SafetyNet that keeps our root alive. The only method that i use if i need chage something is using the recovery terminal. :'( . I f someone found a way please send me a email to test it on this kernel.
This version appears content only November Security Path, but seems that tooks almost 200 Megas and i think that Sony perform some changes that he can't tell for us.
All process to flash it is bellow on update '3' or '1'.
Update 3
I create a new kernel for newest Sony Firmware 32.2.A.0.305. In order to keep Pogo running use the same method above, but use the last suhide version instead ( currently 0.54 ).
Ps. Seems that POGO UID has changed to 10245
Update 2
Last Saturday reading the news from ChainFire, i found a intersting method to hide su for specific apps. Think on it i imagine that this could bring back the Pokemon/Android Pay support. Since Magisk keep telling that his last version isn't compatible with Sony. Even so i give a try but this method don't work for me.
I perform alot of test to create a full operational kernel with all features that we like:
DRM key, TWRP, root, Xposed AND... Pokemon Go / Android Pay Support!
I still keep still enable RIC protection. So you still use the bellow commands to give write acess to System.
Please, follow this sequence:
Flash Kernel v3
Flash SuperSu 2.78 SR1 - need to be this ( other version could be not work )
- Deprecated Flash SuHide 0.52 - user the last version instead
Flash Xposed 86.2 from @DVDandroid Modded by me to leave it install on a SuperSu SR1 version.
Uninstall the Orignal Xposed Installer and install the Material Xposed Installer from same OP of Xposed.
After that we need to put the apps that we can avoid to obtain root access in the SuHide blacklist. Please, refer the SuHide OP to learn how to do that.
Ps: Pokemon Go UID: 10238
Links:
SuperSu 2.78 SR1 OP Thread:

Material Xposed mod for SuperSu 2.78 SR1:
https://mega.nz/#!hYoiwCTL - Key: !GYCbKxwFuCs9z3LFWSgnsWaT0sJN2DuUoe4MgRCREy8
So sorry to modify you work Mr. @DVDandroid, but your check avoid to install the Xposed with this version of SuperSu. :'(
So..... After all have fun catching some Carterpies. Lol
Update 1
Reading the Tobias OP i understood that for update the Su Binary we must reflash a new Kernel with new version of SuperSu. This makes the process not so convenience to perform, since we need to compile a new kernel for a not always a new Kernel Version. So i decide to create a new version of thsi Kernel without root, because this way we can flash SuperSu over a zip file and Keeps our device always up-to-date. Another reason to perform this change is about the 'Magisk" OP that brings (not for us YET ) the Android Pay functionality in a ULB with root. I this setup we must use a most like 'Stock' kernel that we can because Magisk will try to put a mod version of SuperSu/PHH root. By this way it's better we not include root in our kernel.
Another changes was a remove DRM function on Kernel to give a opportunity to you choose best method for your. Please, search of DRM function restore on Xda and flash the proper zip file.
I don't disable RIC function this time, because Tobias belive that device get more security with RIC running. If you needs to write something on System folder you can use TWRP recovery or.... just go to the /sys/kernel/security/sony_ric edit the enable file, put a '0' without quotes, save it, the go to a terminal command app and type this using su: pkill /sbin/ric | mount -o remount, rw /system . this will make the system writetable until next restart. I think its better we deal with this.
I create a shell script to make to system partition temporarily writeable:
https://mega.nz/#!ZRQHyKqJ - Key: !55mhkn9A-2tfaNOFW5ipgTBK7xk_1WNb9-4Puipcd8Y
Please, change his permission with chmod on twrp file manager and copy it to data folder. Run it in a terminal program with ./gravasys.sh
Now you should be able to write on system folder until next restart. -- useless with new kernel

Or.....
Use the Flashtools in a fastboot mode, then choose the Flash option by DoomLord.
Or... If you already have any other version kernel, you can flash another kernel by Twrp in install function by 'flash image' option.
Or....If you wanna update you firmware, download the proper kernel version and flash it on twrp. After this, go to 'REBOOT' and SHUTDOWN your phone. Now go to the flashtools and flash the original firmware but MARK the option to EXCLUDE the Kernel or you will need flash my kernel through PC again- I think that process sucks...
Please, Don't thanks me. All the hard work was performed by Mr. Tobias Waldvogel in this thread:

And another guys mention above.
So, if you like this kernel, please pay a coffee for these guys!
Sorry about my english.....
Warning
DON'T use this kernel on single model. I don't know whats happens!
Deprecated for V2/V3
Ps3: The most important part -> The tool that i used to make this kernel isn't ready to create it with a proper Twrp Recovery, so i made a 'workaround' to the tool understood that new rom version is compatible. Maybe could be happen something wrong while using Twrp altrohugh i already used it to install xposed again.

Yes. U need to open your bootloader to flash custom kernels, but if you really need do this my advice is make a downgrade to 5.0.2 - final rom # 266 - and make a backup from your DRM key before proceed the unlock method.
Thanks bruno$0 for this kernel. It worked and it's great!

Yes! You must have an unlocked bootloader.
I am using your kernel with .224. How can I upgrade to 253? OTA & Xperia Companion are failing.
Many Thanks

i'm currently in .224, and i want to update to .253. after flashing .253 via flashtool, what should i do? unlock bootloader then flash this? i've ever do this before without losing anydata, but i forgot the step ._.
edit : i have unlocked bootloader before. so, i just flash it, and the bootloader unlocked again (because in .224, its already "locked" again after flash this kernel (the .224 version), and because the bootloader unlocked, i flash this kernel again (.253 version ofc) and voila, its back like it was before and dont forget, to access twrp, you need to hold vol. up button at yellow light when booting at sony's logo.
