The only issue people seem to be having are issues that I have, unrooted. Though it seems to be to varying degrees of annoyance.

I haven't seen a method yet that is stable enough for me to make the move. Also want to see a clean unroot backout before biting. Glad to see the progress but am holding off.

My opinion and my opinion only:
I rooted my phone the second zedo posted his first kernel. Overall it was running good. At first I thought the issues people were having with loss of signal and data lock were due to the root but have since seen unrooted phones have the same issue. I however never got the LOS or data lockup.
Yesterday I returned my phone for a new one and have not rooted it. I still havent had LOS or data lockup but what I do notice is SIGNIFICANT battery improvement over being rooted.
Rooted battery at best was draining 6% an hour. More often was average of 1o% hour. Battery after battery calibration lasted 14 hours
Unrooted battery as of this minute is draining 2% an hour. This battery should be on par to last over 2 days but realistically will be over a day Im sure.
So my personally opinion is dont root till a) theres a way out and b) it doesnt require a kernel push. Something just doesnt seem right having to replace a kernel to achieve root. Never had to do that before and dont plan on doing it again.
Also, get a usb jig before rooting to avoid the triangle splash screen and counter.

Yes, samsung released official root yesterday.
In all seriousness though, root is no longer experimental when it is reversible. At the moment, it is not.

Ok I am using Zedomax's V2, which is the overclockable Kernel with root and CWM. After flashing I did the Data reset which involves the ##...# code listed in the forums. My phone is rooted, overclocked, and running flawless. Most of the issues, other than the data loss(fixed with the data reset), are due to people doing things they shouldnt do... Like doing a factory reset in CWM without having a rom to flash afterward. This is what is causing the bootloops. If you follow the directions and dont get too ambitious you will be fine. That being said... if you are concerned then just wait until we get the stock tar so that if you do mess up while flashing anything you can flash right back to stock. Personally I believe most of the issues are user error.

I would wait until there is a way to go back to stock. Then u could try. In reality though we should be flashing a custom recovery and not a Complete kernel. Then for root u flash the su.zip. then you can flash a custom rom/kernel or stay stock with root.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if I can use the EL29 modem with ICS. I have had many issues with ICS and my phone, with the stock ROM and three other custom ROMs. I even had trouble with FH13 and FF18. I had many problems with my GPS not working and I had problems not receiving calls or being able to make calls.
I had to go back to GB in order to get my phone working. Which I like GB but I had to update to ICS to stop getting the annoying update notification.
Anyways, anyone else have this trouble. After talking to Sprint's super nerd tech support, I am 100% positive that my phone just hates anything but EL29.
You can use any modem you like on any build, whatever gets you the best results.

Thats good to know that I am not the only one. I would run GB still if it wasn't for the OTA update constantly spamming me to upgrade. No matter what I did it was either trying to download all the time killing my battery or it was telling me to install every ten minutes.

Hey guys posting this up for a friend.
He sent me a message the other day after I told him about the voice app that is similar to Siri on the Iphone. He said he wanted that app and asked if I could install it for him, forgetting his phone was stock I said I would. Here is the thing, he wants to keep the phone like it is so changing rom's etc is out of the question.
Here is my current situation:
I rooted the phone and SuperUser is on there and shows to be working correctly. So that's a positive!
I downloaded the the autorun thing(sorry can't think of the name right now) where you could add ClockWorkRecovery to it. It's FF18 so I done the option D on the program and it ran and completed and the phone reset like it should but it won't go into CWR by doing the PWR+VolUp+VolDown that I'm used to.
Phone is running the ICS OTA update(FF18)
He doesn't have Root Explorer or any pay for app to allow me to delete any system apps or add any by copy and pasting. I have a ZIP file I found that would allow me to add the app through CWR but I'm not sure what I done wrong or if I don't know the correct way to get into CWR on that phone. I also read online that the factory Kernel won't allow the phone to go into CWR. I hate that I'm posting a thread that is common knowledge but I don't own the phone. Thanks in advance!!
Holding down the Pwr+Vol up puts you into Cwm....Pwr+Vol dwn puts you into download mode/odin

Post above mine will get you where you need to be dude, I'm assuming you're trying to flash the Google now apk? Or svoice? I cannot recommend Google now over svoice highly enough... svoice is not so good, a lot like siri in that way come to think of it...

Awesome guys, thanks for the quick replies!!!
It was S Voice that he was wanting, does Google Now do the same thing? Any info/links? Much appreciated guys!!
Google now does the same thing and more, all much better than svoice and much much better than siri... overview found here... http://www.google.com/landing/now/
Apk here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224

The svoice app is Samsung's Siri equivalent. Its ok, but not really anything more than a novelty. Google now is part of jelly bean (which i'm kinda surprised you don't have on your nexus, but I digress) and is a much more polished Siri competitor, that is, in many ways and in my opinion better than siri.

Thanks for the help! I do have Google Now on my Nexus, just didn't pay attention to the new word of "Now" after it. It's pretty neat though, I enjoy it.
I don't think it'll work on his phone since he's on the stock ROM and it says it must be a Deodexed rom. I think he'll be happy with SVoice, thanks again for your help!
If u cant get into recovery withvol up and power somethin wrong.. Maybe get mobile odin or just pc odin a better cwm with custom recovery like agat or kuban or someones

He posted he already got the svoice zip flashed, regardless of the safety of the recovery he shouldn't have had to worry about it for what he was trying to do... he wasn't wiping any partitions to flash a rom or anything...

The PWR+VolUp worked and I flashed the SVoice.zip but it didn't install the app on the phone. If you try to install it through ES File Explorer it says "Application Cannot Be Installed". That phone is kicking my ass for whatever reason, I'm sure it's because of the stock ROM. My Fascinate and Nexus never did fight me that way, but they were never on stock ROM very long.
What's the best way to install this app on a stock ROM? Thank you all for the help so far.

The only unsafe thing in the recovery is a factory reset. Flashing a zip is not gonna brick you unless it's a seriously corrupt file.
Anyone have any info to add? Why won't this app flash through the zip in CWR?

Why not just flash the update in stock recovery? You can use ota rootkeeper to protect root.
Also the pro version of mobile odin will flash any of the full fw releases as well as the otas, and it'll reinject root during the process. (Its now my preferred method)
Most people arent going to want to give you their nandroid. theres too much personal info on it. Even those like me who make one right after flashing will be very cautious about this. Theres almost always something in there that is easily forgotten to clear. You could get lucky and find someone willing to do it, just dont get your hopes up too much.

Hey doc got some questions for ya. I came to the gs3 from nexus s 4g. With the ns4g I could always just flash new ROMs and updates in cwm. It seems the process is a bit more complicated on gs3. I purchased mobile Odin, and I've used the PC version a couple of times, but I'm not that comfortable with it. First day I got my gs3 I flashed Mr. Robinson's root injected uvlah2 and just stuck with that. A couple nights ago I finally flashed a new radio and it has helped my signal. I want to make sure my phone is ready for the jb update so what would you suggest?

After I updated my phone to 4.4.2 I lose service and have to restart my phone multiple times a day to get service back. I called T-Mobile and after resetting the phone they said they would replace it. Then I called Samsung and they said to bring it to best buy to have it reflashed. I can go there but I could also flash it via Odin at home. Now my question is, if I flash the stock rom via Odin will it trip the Knox counter? I read that it won't and I read that it can. I just want to make sure it won't before I flash it incase I have to have it repaired or replaced.

Yeah, i hate getting replacements from them. I no longer have insurance as any repairs (aside from shattered screen, this denotes an upgrade ) i will just do myself. I have gotten replacements for my S3 through them and they ALL were horrible. I ended up having to take apart both phones when they sent me the new one and made a good working one out of it and reassembled the bad pieces into a bad phone and sent that one back. Ha. It was pathetic. lol.

I've had SIM related issues before. Sometimes an older SIM card won't work correctly with a system update. With a new card problems disappear. Let's hope this is the case for you.

Ive rooted phones before with NO problems , G2, and other HTCs, but Sammy driving me nuts.Im assuming its because I have 4.4.2
