[Q] Mobilicity/WIND Galaxy Nexus 4.2 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi I did a root/flash for a friends Samsung Galaxy Nexus using >http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124838< the newest revision on their homepage and everything went perfect. now I personally have a Optimus G2X WIND (2X) and I tried Domination's ROM but it was not updated anymore and crashed way to much so I am using Paranoid Android ICS hoping the JB gets updated to be more stable but no expectations. anyways I always ALWAYS get a HSDPA signal quality in all my ICS builds even in my JB build tests I have tried and never dropped down to 3G even in my Gingerbread builds CM7 I never had any lower signal than 4G but it seems that his Phone constantly drops from H to 3G and pretty much stays on 3G... is it a Kernal or Baseband update fix? What do?

I'm downtown Toronto on wind. Never really had a problem with data until I got the nexus. Almost always on 3g
I think its a wind+nexus thing

that's like my issue with my Optimus G2x I can't send or receive pictures yet they claim that the service supports it. but I read somewhere that most android devices can't do data+mms at the same time and that's why it fails

On Wind in Edmonton here.
My phone seems to stay on 3G most of the time, but almost always bumps up to H+ whenever I use data. I think it has something to do with saving the battery. I can't remember if it does that on the stock rom, though, as I haven't used that since I got the phone.
I have never tried MMS+data. so I can't help you out there.

Reception after update to 4.0.4.

I live in the COUNTRY ( Laurens, SC ). ! So country we have no 4g yet probably won't get til 2013. Now I had the gnex nit long after it came out and my reception was HORRIBLE. At home it was around 2 bars on 3g but would get a lot of drop calls and random reboots. At work I got no bars and my signal was -120db. It was hit or miss if I got a call text or anything. In 4g area it was still about the same. So needless to say I sold it. So ahere I am a few months later ( couldn't stay away) and I have gotten another one. My concern is anyone else living in a rural area with this phone that has seen any improvement in reception after upgrading to 4.0.4? Could it have been possible that I had a bad phone or bad sim as to why I had those problems ? Or was it just those radios that where on the gnex when they 1st came out ? I am currently using my rezound just trying to see if reception is better yet because if I switch back to gnex and problems are still present I'll have to go back to Verizon and get ANOTHER sim card for the rezound since they claim they deactivate the unused sim after 24 hours

I understand that at work it would be difficult, but when you're home you should be able to tap into your WiFi

I'm in the country too, the country part of the country even for northern Alabama. I am lucky enough to have LTE and am very very happy with it. I just came from AT&T who had **** data just about everywhere, here at my house AT&T had Edge network. Back on topic.. I didn't have problems with 4.0.2 and I don't have problems on 4.0.4. I did just buy the phone from Verizon so I imagine I have one of the newer sim cards.. I believe improved 3g/4g switching is listed in the changelog for 4.0.4, you can find the changelog here in the SGN forums. in addition there are 4.0.4 builds both for if you are planning on staying stock or if you would rather forgo ota's and have custom recovery.

Phone dropping signal all every 15mins

This is really starting to get annoying.. my signal just seem to drop every 15mins. And my phone jump from 3g to H probly every 2secs. And yes I have full bars
I'm on baseband XXKK1 running AOKP 27

I had that problem with losing signal every 15 minutes when I first got my phone. I reflashed the XXKK6 radio in recovery and it fixed it. I'm not sure why that fixed the problem, as that was the same radio I had on my phone, but it work. There is a thread in Development I think that has all the radios in a recovery flashable friendly format.
As far as switching from 3G to H, that is pretty annoying, but I think it's more of a network thing. Most Android phones will just show an H or 4G whether it's in UMTS or HSPA, so you don't see the change. The Nexus shows what you are actually on.

same here. I flashed my radio many times but nothing fixed it.
That´s the only big issue with my GN and it´s rly annoying.
How is it possible, if I have full signal at home (same place) and after some minutes it drop to 1 bar or 0? Something switch of or what ever.
when it drops signal does it still show signal strength? or bars up there?
i was having the same issue where it would drop data, but it showed the bars there. What i did to resolve it was up the min cpu to 700mhz in setcpu and it resolved my issue, i no longer have data drops.

I did the 700mhz and that made it drop every 2 mins lol. Seriously

i had the same problem with XXKK1, when it switches fom 2g-3g sometimes it would hang and give me no reception. flashing UGKL1 solved the problem.
I would try flashing a new radio and if that does not work I'd return the phone for another one. That isn't normal behavior.

Had the same problem on roman's rom, at times it was way more frequent and would dump wifi as well; which was understandably unacceptable due to my use of native voip/sip.
Went back to a CM9 nightly after the experiment yesterday of build 27 and everything is better.
iirc, was on kk6.
I am on AOKP build 27 and just started to see my data randomly stop working but my bars still show and so does my 4G icon. You would also see the data arrows working. I was on 4.0.2 radio and upgrade to 4.0.4 radio to see if that would fix it but didn't seem to.
So has anyone had this happen to them and do they think it was Rom related? My 4G signal sticks so I do not have an issue of signal dropping. When this happens only a reboot gets my actual data back. It is like the Epic Touch 4G LOS issue we had but it still shows data instead of giving you the zero with the line in it.
This has been happening to me on AOKP 27 as well. I've never had this problem before on any other AOKP rom. Hmm, think I might flash another modem then flash back to KK6 to see if it helps.

I just flashed CM9. Going to see if it is the Roms fault.

Did you your phone come with the XXKK1 radio or did you flash it?
If it's the stock radio, then it means your GNEX was imported from Europe.
I had a European GNEX with problems just like you described. I tried flashing all radios available here in the forums but it did not solve the problem, my google voice mailbox would get a lot of messages due to my phone being out of reach. Long story short, I lost that phone in an unfortunate event. I bought another GNEX, this time a Canadian import one. It came with UGKL1 radio out of the box and never flashed any other radios because it's been working flawlessly in terms of signal strength.
I'm not saying it's a generic problem. But that is what I experienced.
I suggest you try flashing a north-american baseband, one that starts with UG and hope your case is different than mine.

If its its not too much of a headache take it back. My wife's had the same issue which they tried to fix with a sim card which didn't work so I got a replacement and its now is just like mine....spot on. Fyi my buddy had to take two back with the same issue. Good luck man.

Anyone fix this? Mine will just stop having a data connection. It says that it has one and the bars act as if they are working but it will not download anything. Sometimes I have to reset and other times I can just put it airplane mode and turn it back on and it works. I have actually tried all of the radios so far including the newest one with 4.0.4.
Extremely irritating. As far as I know, this happens because it is asleep, because I don't remember it happening while I was using it.

New to Samsung Galaxy

Hey guys,
So i'm new to owning Samsung galaxy phones. I do really like my phone alot, the only downfall so far with is my signal us HORRIBLE! I had the evo and evo 3d and my signal wasnt to bad. The I bought the iPhone and had good signal but since i'm a sprint customer I had extremely slow internet. Found out how to make my iPhone run on Verizon signal and was fast. Well I got bored with it and got this. (sorry for long story, at work and bored). So anyways is there a way to help my signal. All my phones besides this one had full signal at my house this phone only gets about 4 bars and it seems like my wifi reciever is weak to, hardly picks up my wifi at home. Id really appreciate the help,
Thanks

Hmmm....that's interesting. Other than slow 3G and spotty 4G service in my area, I've never had signal problems and definitely no problems picking up WIFI at home. In fact, I normally connect to my WIFI before I even pull into the driveway at home.
In regards to phone signal, have you tried updating your PRL in settings?
I just got it on Friday and the prl updated its self, haven't tried recently. Is there ways to reprogram the radio. I've had both my evos rooted, I understood flashing roms, but never understood when it said something about radios.

Nexus is losing signal all the time

Hey,
back a few months ago an update came out which introduced the issue that the Nexus would loose signal all the time. Then Google released 4.0.3 I think which solved that. But now I'm at 4.1 and I still have that problem. Can you please help me to fix this? Signal is gone like all 5-10 minutes and I can't really make calls or stream stuff properly.
Pleaaase help me out, this is so annoying!

I'm on Verizon Wireless in the US, and I was getting disconnected from 4G every 5-10 minutes. My battery was lasting for around 2 hours before it was below 50%.
I switched the network mode from "CDMA/4G" to "CDMA Only" and I do not have any connection issues anymore. Granted, I don't have 4G speed anymore either, but I almost always have a WiFi connection and I only have a 2GB/month plan right now shared with my wife.
I didn't get my Galaxy Nexus for the network speed though, I got it to upgrade from a HTC Incredible to get the bigger screen and the larger storage.
I would check out this radio thread and flash a different radio. I was able to significantly improve my data speeds on AT&T by changing my radio. Unfortunately, you'll will have to try them out via trial and error to find one that works well for you.

Sorry for the late reply but I tried it out first. Flashed the DVKK6 radio and since then all my signal problems are gone. Thanks for the pretty obvious tip

[Q] Horrible signal. My problem or Sprints?

So today I have had issues with connecting to Sprint's network. In a city near mine, they are upgrading to 4G. My phone has been going from full signal to zero signal within seconds. It is killing my battery life. I am running CM10.1 with the current nightly. I restored a previous version of CM to see if it was an issue with the ROM and I was getting the same results. Do I need to flash the radios or leave it be? Could it be because of Network Vision? Is there a way to back up my current radios in case something goes haywire?

Its most likely a carrier issue....make sure you have the most current radios installed which are FD02 if i remember correctly....other than that its a very rare occurance that software would affect your signal...probably due to the work that they are doing in the area....turn off LTE and see if the 3G signal does the same thing...good luck let us know what happens
Its sprints terrible network.

...check their website see what it says for your area....for what its worth I'm 99% sure its their doing

Well, I have confirmed it to be on Sprint's end. All it took was a quick drive around town to pick up a different tower. My buddy has a signal booster in his apartment and I was picking up full bars there. Here's hoping LTE is close!
