Media scanner not running - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
In my galaxy note2 media scanner is stopped working. I unmount and then mount my sd card through setting > storage >ex sd card option but no luck.
None of the image or vedio is showing in my gallery stored in sd card. Please help.

It might seem like a bad thing, but now your battery will last soooooooooooo much longer. Media scanner is the biggest battery drain in the phone (much more than the screen in my case). I think you are very lucky, and I hope that my media scanner stops working too, even if it means I can't find anything in the gallery. Its worth it so I don't have to recharge this ****ty phone 3 times per day.
What did you do to get it to stop working? Please share the info

Thanks for this info. I will definitely let you know how this happened.
But please give me the solutions to enable this. Please advice

This might work for you. Its how I got rid of the Media drain (to some degree).
If you are rooted try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.addz.mediascannerroot&feature=search_result
If you are not rooted try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.addz.mediascanner&feature=search_result

Thanks for all your Suggestions, but that didn't work. But I get the solution, now I know why media scanner not scanning my sd card.
If you also don't want to scan you sd card just create a folder with .nomedia or place a txt file with the name of .nomedia in your sd card root directory then your scanner will not scan your sd card.

[Q]Startup problem

I'm getting this error each time I restart my Xperia PLAY r800a since today.
I haven't any problem with my SD after this... but this warning is really annoying.
My startup user apps are: AdFree, Equalizer, Gmail, HD widgets, Maps, SetCPU, Supersuer, Swype, Titanium backup, widgetsoid.
Do you know how solve it?
Thanks
Your sd card is either bad or going bad, time for a new sd card.

My SD Card is 3 months old. I'll try to test it, do you know which program can I use?
Or an app might be trying to access your sd card before it's mounted. Never seen that happen. Makes me think that because the error popped up while your sd card is mounting.

Equalizer was the problem. I've uninstalled it and now android don't show any message. I don't know why Equalizer gave me that problem.

All JPEG files automatically deleted today - CM10

So today I noticed all my photos in my gallery app were greyed out... thought it was strange. Selected one... big grey pic... then another.... and another....
These pics span the internal storage and sd card....
First I deleted the cache to the gallery app.... same result...
OK... went into es file explorer.... dcim... camera..... all JPEGs gone....
Went into the sdcard..... have multiple folders under pics main folder... all empty... except for any video files...
Then mounted on my PC... and they also don't show.
What could of happened to cause this.... I wouldn't normally care but I lost a lot of pics of my kids... that spanned 3+ years that weren't all backed up. Any help on the snowballs chance in hell of recovering this would be appreciated.... but at the very least any reasonable explanation as to why this may have happened would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You could try pulling the sd card out, putting it in the computer directly, and then using a data restore or undelete app. As long as the sectors haven't been rewritten, they should be recoverable.
Also, this may help for the future. I use my phone to capture my kids as well. What I've been doing is using the auto upload features in both Google+ and DropBox, to back pics up in replicate. Sucks for bandwidth and battery usage, but it is what is is. lol
Hope you get them back!

Unfortunately, I don't think that one's doable with the way the device mounts. You may be able to mount it as a drive via recovery, but I'm not sure.
Edit: Just noticed your other post. You're asking the right thing. Hope you get an answer. If CWM doesn't have it, you could try TWRP.

Recova is what i used on the SD card and worked perfectly.
Also, i flashed TWRP... and the option isnt there either, so i will assume that its not possible on our phone yet... so for now im screwed...
am afraid to install any new programs or files, in fear of losing my more current pics, which were internally.
That happened to me too, but i am using the GS2 Tmobile, after flashing cm 9 nightlybuild. but my picture on my sd card, so i guess will use recova.
Thanks and hope you get your pictures recovered.

It sucks that you lost quite a few pictures that mean a lot to you. I do see sincerely hope that you now understand the importance of backing up these important files. This really goes for everyone. Keep important files backed up in at least one other place, and keep it up to date. Most people don't start doing backups until they've lost something that's irreplaceable.

This is the same old old old problem from the module called "MediaServer" , The service mediaserver (media scanner) can go infinite loop while scanning some wrong media files on your SD Card. High CPU causing very short battery life for other phone users. And nonstop sdcard operations can cause bad blocks. And the "wear leveling" will help to distribute the bad blocks randomly anywhere on your card and soon all files will mess up.
the walk around is, check all your media files on pc, or copy them back to your phone slowly, while monitoring if there is a hang.
it seems that android system developers maybe find it hard to duplicate the problem or something. its on the bugs list. No one have a fix so far.

Still Having Storage Issues...

Sorry to bother you guys once again. But I'm still having some issues with my.phone storage. I can't figure out why everything is installing onto my USB storage instead of my SD card.
I don't really know how to exactly explain it. So what I did was take a screenshot of before and after, to try to show you what I mean...
This first screenshot is taken of an app I have. I went to my.task manager then to the downloads tab, and I chose an app that said it was "installed on device".. & this is what it says:
*(look at 1st picture)*
Ok.. So I click.on the "move to SD card" button, hoping to move it to the card.. I wait a few, then this next picture, is what it says after:
*(look at 2nd picture)*
I thought it was supposed to move it to SD card, but if you look at the numbers, there is still nothing on the SD card..
Why is this happening.. & how can I fix it, so it actually moves to the card? I'm running out of space on my USB storage..
Please help. Thanks guys
So, anyone have any.ideas.on how to fix my.storage issue?? Any.suggestions?? My.USB storage is almost full & my card is basically.empty.. I need to figure out what the problem is... I would appreciate any help at all. Thanks guys.

Are you on a stock ROM or on a JB leak?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
When you go to settings > storage and press the menu button is there an option for storage location? If there is switch it from internal to external. USB storage(internal) is seen as an SD card so move to SD moves it to rhe internal SD which has mucb higher read write speeds than an external class 10. You can also swap you camera location to external and download location to external and use internal for all apps. Even if you swap locations you're going to be limited to one or the other you can't use both at once for apps2sd

I went to settings, storage, then pushed menu button, but nothing happens. No menu came up.
I want everything to basically go to my external SD card. Any other way to default to my card??
