[Q] GMAIL question re MOAR rom - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello All...I've been using the MOAR rom and love it. However the GMAIL is inverted, and I'd like to know if there's a zip or some other way to get back to the regular (not inverted) version of Gmail. Any help is appreciated...thanks!

I'm not running MOAR... is Gmail a System App on it? If it isn't a system app, you can just uninstall it and install the official Gmail app from the Play Store.
If it is a system app, you can use Titanium Backup to move it to a user app and then uninstall it. I honestly don't know if this will mess things up with other things in the Rom, though. At the very least, you could freeze it in Titanium Backup and then install the Play Store version of it.

What topherk said is right, alternatively you can go into /system/app (with a root browser) and delete the Gmail app, then install it from the play store and profit

Titanium Backup. Uninstall Gmail and install it again from Play. Don't freeze it just uninstall it.

I went to the play store and updated GMail. Issue solved, back to non inverted.
Thanks everyone for the help and input!

How do I get the Market to recognize all installed Apps?

I decided to go back to stock after trying some of the custom ROMs here. I backed up all my apps using ASTRO. After flashing back to stock and rooting, I restored the apps but they are not showing up on the downloaded apps in the Market. Is there a way to fix this?
It will remember your apps from the gmail account you used when downloading them.

No, what he's saying ia that the market won't recognize that those apps are installed on the device and won't notify you of updates, etc.
If you're rooted, you can use titanium backup. Its free and it will update the market place to show the apps installed.

Thanks. The 'Market Doctor' the fix from Titanium, requires a paid version.

The donate version of Titanium Backup is easily worth 5x the cost.

Stock ICS Email client

Hello All I recently updates my Galaxy S2 to ICS, but the email client that comes with touch wiz is very bad. Anyone know where I can download the Stock ICS email client that will work on a non-rooted phone?
I believe you need to be rooted to uninstall the stock email cliend and install the ICS version.
I also had troubles with the stock client but after I found the ICS version everything is fine ... except that its not themed to the S2 way but is white as the gmail client. Do a search here.
Good luck

Thanks for the information, just rooted my phone with Siyahkernel, do you know where i can get the stock email client and instructions on how to install and back up the samsung one?
Put those two files in system/app with any root explorer (like Root Explorer -the free version will do). restart the phone, should it work -hit thank you -will be my first
Dont remember who to credit for the files myself, got them some time ago.

Thanks For the files, I have copied them to system /app and it asks me to overwrite it, but after reboot and when I go back to check it is still the old email app, any hints or tips would help, thanks.
K, what I can do is post backups of the mail app from my titanium backup. You have to get the app, and put the file in titanium folder, then restore the app as if you had backed it up yourself.
The galaxy is home, and i,m not now, so it,ll be a few hours. K

Thanks for the help, I was able to finally copy it to the system folder, was an option that needed to checked in the file manager. Now every time I try to open email it crashes and the phone takes a long time to boot, had to go back the Samsung app. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
ok, try this -I got a titanium backup of Email 4.0 as it's called on ICS gallaxy s2.
It's backed up just before uninstall right after a new ICS flash -should be good.
1. If you don't have it yet, get titanium backup free from market.
2. In titanium backup uninstall your email app -dont back up (or back up, and then remove from titanium backup folder).
3. Put the 4 attached files in titanium backup folder
4. In titanium, restore the email app
5. See what happenes
Visit the Wanamlite site. Wanam posted a flashable zip of the stock email client that seems to work with any stock deodexed and rooted ROM (it worked on my stock deodexed DXLP7 and DXLPQ).
Be careful, though. After doing this, I noticed that if you try installing themes like Vertumus', the theme doesn't take properly and while you won't get boot loops, you'll have multiple FC issues afterwards.
I haven't looked but I have an inkling that the framework that Vertumus modifies is the stock sammy email client and not the Google one and so when you install his theme it tries to modify the Google client (since it's replaced the stock sammy one) and that's what's causing the issues.
Well, would,n it be more sensible first to try the titanium backups or the original, freshly installed, not tampered with app?

Google Talk

If you get a new rom that has Hangouts instead of Gtalk can you just place the apk into the gapps and flash ? I tried to just install on the system app folder and it says cannot install.
Anyone else hating the new Google Hangouts app?

New app is way better you might be alone with this one and honestly just delete apk prior to installing ROM. Or simply restore from Titanium Backup.... Getting talk back is simple just need to think not out

[Q] Latest Gmail not Downloading Play Store...

Hello,
I've been trying to update Gmail through the Play Store but it keeps giving me an error "Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again.". I don't really know what to do past this point, I'm guessing I have to flash the new version but I can't seem to find the link to it. Anyone have any links to the latest gmail or gapps I can get? Thanks in advance.
Edit: Sorry realized posted in the wrong section instead of the Q&A, if mod finds please move. Sorry for this.

Because gmail is now in the play store it isn't included in some gapps. If you are using Task's aokp ROM with his gapps, it can't be updated as he's modified it for his dark ui.
If you really wanted to uninstall it go into /system/app and delete gmail.apk
Reboot and you'll be able to install it in the play store.

Just gonna add to this that if you delete and install from the Play Store, the Dark UI won't work on it.
Thanks! Uninstalled and reinstalled through store worked. In case anyone stumbled on to this thread in the future I uninstalled through Titanium Backup, and rebooted. Deleting the APK didn't work for me for some reason.

Hi.
In my case,
1. change from system app to user app, (using Titanium backup or similar app)
2. uninstall it.
3. install from google pay again.
4. do not change to system app, use as user app.
5. fixed !
Cheers.

Thanks for the info.
This didn't work for me.
I ended up flashing liquid-smooth ROM instead of SlimKat. Used the PA_GAPPS which seems to be working..
