Confused about Stock ROM versions and installation process - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just to be clear, I HAVE read fully the thread by dr ketan regarding stock rom installation, but it still leaves me with a bunch of questions:
So I have rooted my N7100, and I don't know if I have an update that I can install for my current stock ROM.
When I go into settings>about>system upgrade...it just keeps spinning but nothing happens when I check for updates.
But I am ultra confused about upgrading manually.
1) How do I tell what region my phone is?
2) Can I install a different region's stock rom on my phone via Odin? Does that mean I have to wipe everything?
3) If I can find my region's stock ROM that is a newer version than mine, can I just flash it via Odin and not wipe anything?

1.Dial *#1234# input result here (OR simply select ROM for area you are living to update)
2.You can flash any country ROM, flashing stock ROM doesn't wipe anything, though always advisable to have backup, if anything goes wrong in case.
3.Yes flash with odin, wiping - read above

No I know it doesn't wipe anything, but I'm asking, do I NEED to do a factory reset or anything to make sure it runs stable? When I used to install custom ROMs and whatnot on my phones, I had to always wipe data and cache to make sure it ran properly.

It is not must but I do recommend for best performance.
Search my thread for UBD word in both tab of listing (pda and csc), you have installed one of that rom at presently.
As your ap and csc both have UBD code.

Hi Dr.Ketan, just a question.
I forgot to write down what stock ROM my note 2 came with when I bought it.
And I already flashed a custom ROM (ARHD19)
Just wondering if there's a way to know my phone's stock ROM?
I could look at my friend's note 2 to know, but yeah, I'm curious.

Update with Kies this way
Kies - tools - firmware upgrade initialization
This will bring device to original state, but it will wipe device so backup imp data before this.

Need some advice about going back to stock?

Hi, over the last few days I have had nothing but problems with my efs, it took me 3 days to fix it with help from a forum member yesterday.
Anyways at the moment I am on build number DME6 with modem DMF1, I want to sell my note 2 but I want to get it like it was out the box, because the company I am selling it to checks it out before they transfer me the money.
At the moment I cant get ota updates because my system is modified! And I cant go back to 4.1.1 cos of my efs problem?
So I was wondering what else I can do to go back to fully working stock? Would I have to flash a stock rom from another region and change csc? Is there any roms that I can flash that will not mess with my efs?
I really dont know what my options are at the moment? ?
If someone could give some advice that would be great.
Many thanks

You have to flash the newer firmware (newer than dme6) even if that means choosing firmware from another region. Then root again, run triangle away, reflash the firmware and finally factory reset. Using an older firmware will result in a broken imei.

Sorry I meant DME6 or higher. You can try searching the url below for your firmware requirements. It requires registration but the selection is comprehensive.

Well if they will check your country oriented firmware then flash that chk in sammobile if not then dmg1 is the latest make sure to get a efs backup for safety.
Unroot and use triangle awaw to get system staus to normal and bianry couny 0 it will show in download mode. Flash stock and wipe data and cache after .
All will be fine by now if u hv any prob getting the status to 0 iniatally wiping will solved it after a fresh flash with odin
Im in the u.k so would DME6_DME2 BTU be ok to flash?

Back to original as from brand - how?

Hi guys,
I'm in MG1 ROM Wannalite for 2 months but I will sell my Note 2 for a friend that do not want root. Please, some one could explain HOW THE HECK do this?
I'm trying all night long, First I tried the Brazilian ZTO N7100UBDMA3_N7100ZTODMA2_N7100UBDMA1_HOME, flashed, but the phone wasn't work and still show as modified. So back to root wanna and try to download Triangle way to zero count of ROM, still the same.
Please I have to downgrade my CWM? I have to flash some more file with the ROM?
To the moment I am trying the N7100ZCDMG1_N7100CHNDMG1_N7100ZCDMD3_HOME, but even flash got error
I will wait some help;
Thanks and Best Regards.
well I will tell u what I do to get 0 counter and official status and get back to stock condition-
1.Make sure to have triangle away with auto resest on boot I use adam kernel and it supports it..
2.Go to download mode and make sure counter is 0 if yes load ur stock rom from odin and flash it.
3.After flashing stock rom reset ur phone from settings.
4.After reset check download mode and u will have counter 0 and status official.
5.If u want to change csc of ur region then go to play store and search csc and u will get an app called galaxy s2 csc something install it select ur csc and hit install and this will reboot and wipe ur data..
There was a thread in xda on how to revert back ur phone to stock factory condition here it is

Close firewall
Close anti virus
Try different USB port
Close kies from background if running
Still same msg then use mobile odin, Lite version also work to flash ROM
Get Mob odin from here 1st post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
then install flasher kernel from post #7 of same thread
but remember there will be 4.0 and 5.0 for N7100, you have to pick 5.0
after installing both
Copy tar.md5 ROM file to SD card
Open mobile odin - select Open file option - point to ROM file you placed in SD card - Flash
Good Luck

Your device seems to have mixed component. Have you flash different modem? Your modem is different than rom that could be reason you are not getting updates
From where you purchased device? And what is yours region.

[Q] Bootlooping despite flashing via Odin and installing CWM

Guys here is my problem. I tried to upgrade my Samsung N7105 to 4.3 via OTA and it got stucked on bootloop.
I tried to access recovery mode but it fails, only download mode.
What i did is I downloaded the official 4.3 firmware at SamMobile and flashed it with Odin 3.09
Based on Odin it is successful but im still stuck on bootloop and recovery mode cannot still be accessed.
Tried to root it also and installed CWM to recover. I was able to to access CWM
so i restored factory setting, wipe cache and dalvik cache but still the phone bootloops.
Any suggestions on how to resolve my problem?

Now working cm10.2 but now my next problem is there is no signal. it appeared that imei value is null. how do i repair this? thanks!
By the way after successfully running on cm10.2 I tried to reflash again with stock firmware. bootloop again. i think i will be stuckon using custom roms for now. The only thing I need to address is the no mobile signal problem.
OK so the bootloop problem is done and don't worry there are a lot of amazing custom roms that are based on the stock one and even better features like the note 3 features, as for the imei, please tell me you did an nfs backup if you do, there are a lot of ways you can restore your nfs backup, if you don't have an nfs backup, I don't know what to do.

Sorry was on vacation for a long time. I wasn't able to update this thread.
Problem right now is I forgot to back the EFS so when I flashed CM 10.2
There is no baseband and IMEI is null. Tried to flash n7105 modem but still it still doesn't work
Have read that I should flash stock firmware to fix baseband and IMEI but 4.3 firmwares makes my phone go on bootloop.
Should I wait for 4.4 update? I want my phone to make it usable again.
My phone right now is useless and works like an itouch hahaha
Any suggestions???

You may try Hurricane modem changer and experiment with various modem versions. It's a longshot but it may help. Try finding very old modem version and flash that.
Hurricane Modem Changer is that an application?
Where to get it? Also, will it there be a possibility that when I flash Official 4.4 kitkat (when released) on my n7105.
Bandwidth and IMEI will be restored? I'm leaning towards to come back to touch wiz though many of you guys might say that a custom rom might be better.
For one thing, the problem in my n7105 started when i upgraded to 4.3 via OTA

No, it's for N7100 only - the modems are completely different (3G vs LTE).
Please read the original post carefully before flashing, if the HC was not protected you could have lost network functions completely.

Im using an n7105 model. Guess this will not work. Any other suggestions?
From what I understand, the quickest solution is to flash stock firmwares however, i'm quite disappointed that
almost all 4.3 firmwares from sam mobile doesn't work in my phone (always bootlooping)
A technician told me that I should wait for the 4.4 kitkat release, since it might work for my phone.
Now my problem is, I need to have the phone operational. so im willing to flash custom roms for the meantime
but the baseband problem is really testing my patience. hehe

It's pretty strange really as stock firmwares are a complete set of bootloader/modem/system that should in theory work perfectly well together without any incompatibility problems. Have you ever tried to install one of them without sdcard and/or simcard installed, maybe you have some leftovers from previous system (Android secure directory) that causes bootloops, also did you completely clean internal sdcard prior to flashing, it may create the same problems as external sdcard.

im not sure if i cleaned the internal sdcard prior to flashing.
It started with the OTA update that failed then I tried to flash stock firmware via odin
do i have to do a pre-requisite before flashing it again? so you are suggesting to remove the simcard and external sd card prior to flashing?

[Q] GS4 Tmobile Stock firmware file

Hi as always I come for the expert advice to you guys. I have recently UPDATED my Galaxy S4 for Tmobile to CyanogenMod. Frankly I love the speed but it is still in beta version and has a few things I did not like. Few glitches. Anyway:
I want to go back to my stock firmware which was Kit Kat 4.2.2.before I installed Cyanogenmod.
I already downloaded Odin V3 09 and am ready to do this but I still do not have the stock firmware file. I looked for it but I really don't want to screw it up.
Can someone be so kind and insert the link to the download ? And if of course possible STEP BY STEP instructions on HOW TO GO BACK ?
I understand my phone now is rooted and will stay rooted after reinstalling Kit Kat. So I still should be able to get rid of all the bloatware correct ?
Any help greatly appreciated and huge THANKS IN ADVANCE !!!
Download firmware here http://www.cheatersedge.org/android/m919/M919UVUFNB4_M919TMBFNB4_TMB_FENNY_FIXED.zip, there is a thread already on instructions on how to flash.. and just because you rooted doesn't mean your device will stay rooted forever. Once you flash the firmware you will be unrooted but you can root again.. Alternatively you can just flash a debloated stock rom in recovery

Finding the stock firmware won't be easy unless you try downloading from sammoble, but you could try Fenny's stock rooted 4.4.2 rom in development.
It's very smooth without the bloatware and it has unlimited tethering.
It works best with Philz recovery.
Just follow the directions and your good to go.
Don't forget to do a factory reset.

PIN lock screen does NOT work on Fenny's rom when you first boot/restart/power up the phone. So, if you are turning your phone on the lock screen will just be skipped over.
Pin lock issue could be NG if you need that type of security.

Thank you so much Serio22, I just want to make sure it is the correct one for my Tmobile GS4.
And also would you be so kind and attach the STEP BY STEP instructions for Odin ? I am really afraid of bricking my phone. I need guidance.
People say once you do it few times it becomes easy as pie. But like I wrote above I don't want to mess up my phone.

One last question and I won't bother again:
When it comes to those files " OFFICIAL TAR AND ORIGINAL TAR " do I just choose any one of them ?? I wanted to know the difference between them both. Instructions don't really specify which to choose. Or is it both ?
And also there is a suggestion to " Wipe the data in recovery " after the whole thing how do I do that ? Should I do that ?
Thank you again for your help.

You don't have to worry about that, just use the tar file I posted earlier
Edit: and for the wipe data, you reboot to recovery after you flashed the firmware and do a factory reset.. Yes you should, but not necessary if you don't have any issues..

I don't think any of them are necessary, but you can check both of them if you want.. I always have F.Reset checked and reboot disabled because I like to reboot on my own but that's just me

So I am back to stock it took me back to KitKat and now I am unrooted. I did not do the factory reset with Cyanogen so when I flashed the stock ROM I still had the cyanogen wallpaper. Some apps did not work so I did the factory reset and everything is flawless now.
Thank you for your help and the file you have provided. By the way was that the Jellybean of KitKat stock firmware ?
