[Solved]Disable the second cpu core? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Is it possible to disable the second cpu core?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

Kernels put the second core to sleep when not needed. I find it sleeping on mine most of the time. If are talking of disabling it totally, I'm not sure.

Yeah I kind of just wanted to disable it completely and mayne be able to turn it on and off on demand. I find it always turns the secind core on even just scrolling. What are you doing to keep it sleeping?

I flashed custom kernel, and use badass governer. Now I find my second core sleeping most of the time, and used only when higher processing power is needed.
Just now checked CPU times in System Tuner, and I realize either of the CPUs is sleeping for 87% of the time, effectively meaning that for 87% of time only one core is being used.

Actually I figured it out! im using the ktoonez kernel and if you use the ktoonsevative (dunno if I speled that right) you chanf the governor settings, look for "max cpu lock" and change it to 1...it is only 1 core.

Qualcomm chips do this automatically. When not needed one core is off. When enough stress or more power is needed the second core will activate.

In system tuner under boot tweaks choose force all CPUs online then upon boot completion (this way if init.d tweak script causes issues you override it as this is done after init.d)
Or manually
Start Android terminal
Type
su
Then tap enter
Type
stop mpdecision
Tap enter again
Exit terminal
(could put line in a text file save to SD use script manger to load as su and set as widget too)
(need to do this after every boot or anytime you want to force CPU 1 online when it is not (uses more battery if it doesn't deep sleep as it should when it us not needed)).
Also, DO NOT set CPU minimum speed to 192 mhz use at least 384. Setting to 192 will usually cause CPU to not come back online it is just the increment in mhz not really meant to be used as lowest speed.
This is for any version of Android be it ginger or ICS doesn't matter.

how do you make your phone go into a deep sleep?

ive seen people saying about deep sleep how do you do it? sorry for a noob question.
It's automatic. When you lock the screen it should go into deep sleep. Download cpu spy to check cpu states
so basically to save you battery . should i use JD?

No need to use Jack Daniels to put your phone into deep sleep. (I dunno what you mean by use JD lol)
Most ROMS, including 100% unrooted stock will use deep sleep.
^^^^^^^ - Bahahaha!
I read the Thread title and started laffing immediately.
========================
Just smash your phone against a wall to make it go into eternal deep sleep, mate.

I believe the chap means 'Juice Defender.' Make sure you don't have apps keeping your phone awake, too.

Right, deep sleep is a battery saving state when phone is not in use. JD makes a smartphone dumb by disabling the radios. It generally uses more battery than it saves. I don't use, nor recommend JD(Have tried it though, and quickly realized it ruins a smartphone and makes no difference in life). However, some people still seem to think it's some great gift from God, but they are mistaken. A simple script to UV and UC/OC can take care of all your battery saving needs. Or if you can't manage to run a script use system tuner to do these things.
If you are planning on running an ICS rom you cannot not UV or OC until kernel source is released, though. You can UC it

Like this:
Settings > Applications > Running Services.
Press Menu, and select Show cached processes (you don't have a choice, really).
Now select whichever processes you want and stop them.
Say, M&S, is it ok to stop ALL of those cached processes?

Only showing one CPU running on fauxclock

Hello, I'll admit i'm a noob, but the only way to learn is to ask sometimes dumb questions. Anyways, i'm currently running malice ROM on my sgs2 and it care with fauxclock for overclocking. It shows that one CPU is running and the other is offline and occasionally will flicker on for a second and show offline and won't flicker on and off for quite a while. Is this normal? Or should both be on at the same time?

This ^^^, its been awhile since I was on gb, but there's a line of code in the init.qcom.post_boot.sh file that initiates a governor of sorts, that only enables second CPU on high load.
To confirm, run a benchmark test in antutu benchmark and reopen faux clock, it'll show both cpu's as active
Unless your on ICS, you have a single core phone, second one barely gets used...unless you have a TON of stuff open
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
So with GB roms, it utilizes one constantly under normal conditions unless under heady load and the second one picks up the slack as needed......and ICS utilizes both constantly? Is that pretty much right?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
You can force the second core to run all of the time - I was able to do it with a script that locked out the kernel from turning it off. Doesn't really do much except eat up your battery though.
You can also use system tuner app to force second cpu online but like onyx00 posted just eats bettery.

Help

My phone keeps moving the setting on cpu, it's set for 1.5 to 348mhz but when I back out it goes to 1.5 to 1.3 and my battery been dying so fast I ready factory reset my phone but still happens not running no custom kernel
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Are you saying its going from 1.5 to 1.3 as the max or the min? What are you using to adjust these parameters?
The CPU is designed to range from 96Mhz all the way to 2.1 GHz depending on the kernel. Stock is 384 MHz to 1.5 GHz. The CPU with adjust according to load. The real way to see what the CPU is actually doing is to install CPU Spy from the market.
You need to provide the kernel your using, the ROM, if its ICS or JB. You can't be on stock

Are you using ktweaker to set the values? It comes with the ktoonz kernel. And make sure it has root permissions as well.
Also install the app I mentioned from the play store (free) and see if your phone is going to "deep sleep".

You might not have a problem after all. As long as the CPU is scaling from the 1.5 to 384, your phone is running fine.

deep sleep means your radio, 3g, wifi etc all pretty much shut off. The only things that 'wake' them up to sync and check email etc are 'wakelocks'.
Your phone shouldn't be in such a high cpu range unless your using an app. My guess is an app wakelock is out of control and forcing your phone to do this. If you are on a ktoonsez kernel or rom go and lock the cpu frequencies at about 918mhz. When you lock frequencies it won't go as high, but the problem of a background app setting off wakelocks won't go away
Get bettery battery stats for bettery results
Be sure to thank me!

My problem is in my set cpu app it says 1.5 to 1.5 min it won't let me stick anything and I just won't back to stock and had to root again and download set cpu again and it says 1.5 to 1.5 min I though maybe it was a rom but it's still doing it idk if it's just the app doing that

Gpu overclock

Hello
I'm currently using a note2core asylum kernel which supports both cpu and gpu overclocking. My question is, how do I go about overclocking the gpu? Any help will be appreciated.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Don't need that overclock note 2 is an excellent phone more than a phone...my oppinion
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I know. Its all for.research purposes anyway
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure if note2core supports stweak but that's the app you need to over clock. There are other but I prefer this one. It will give you a maximum slide to 1800mhz and also tons of other features such as adjusting charging amp, under volting including for the gpu as well. There's not much to know about over clocking as its pretty straight forward but you can change the xpu governor and the number of cores you want activated and how you want them to activate based on your usage. Under volting will help with both temperature and battery life although I find the changes almost insignificant, but you should try it out. If you want to undervolt start with around - 25mv.
Sent from the rabbit hole.
You are talking about cpu not gpu
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Okay it's not that different. Just over clock it and undervolt at the same time to - 25mv and then download an app called stabilitytest from play store. Run it for 10minutes and see if you get any error. If not then further lower the voltage to - 50mv. But usually - 25 is good. I noticed that anything higher clocks peed than 5xxmhz starts causing error and graphic glitches.
Sent from the rabbit hole.
Tried it. Note2core not supported
