I've been wanting to upgrade my Tmobile S3 sgh-t999 to any of the 4.2 ROM that I could find in XDA, but when I tried to flash it from recovery, it always come back with "Installation aborted".
I tried upgrading to LiquidSmooth ROM, PAC-man ROM, CM10.1 and so on. still same.
I did place the zip files on my ext SD card and I'm able to see them when in recovery mode. I do wipe data, cache, dalvik and so on on each attempt, but still same..
If I did try with any of the new ROMs that required Google Apps to be flashed, if I would try flashing the Google app zip files first, that went successfully, but not the other zip file.
I'm a newbee, so I know I might be doing something wrong, although I have done upgrades before and was successful (but on Sprint phones)
My phone right now has 4.1.1 BUILD # JRO03L T999UVDLJA. Would it help if I go to STOCK rom for the upgrade? and which stock should I go down to if necessary?
Any suggestions?
I would check the zip file is good file first. check with MD5 checker to find out Maybe bad/incomplete download?
Or did you try reflashing recovery?
If you can flash gapps, I'm assuming you just need to verify that zip you downloaded.. Again I Can't see it so just an assumption..
Or start over by flashing stock and reroot it?

Your rom may be corrupted due to a bad download or your recovery may be out of date so I recommend redownloading the ROM, making sure it does complete and intended for your specific device, and if possible check for an MD5 sum on the ROM. Also, if on TWRP recovery (recommended) you may wanna download Goomanager from the Play Store and check to see if your recovery needs updating by tapping the menu key and selecting "Install openscript recovery". See if that helps bud.

Successful install finally
I really have to thank you and all the others for their quick responses.
I did try different thinks after seeing the various responses:
..downloading MD5 checkers on both PC and phone, updating the recovery software and others..
But what I liked the most was.. I went to the goo.im site, selected the CM10.1 ROM, it expands and shows not only the MD5 # so I can verify it, but had a barcode, so I downloaded it directly to my phone and when done, i used the hash checker on the phone and the MD5 that was showing on the website matched the hash checker, so I went ahead and started the process and it did install successfully.
Noticed that Google play was not there so I also flashed the GPlay app.
It seems nice, even though I might back it up and then try another ROM to see which one I like the best.
Any suggestions on which is the most stable and improves both battery and other performances, while also giving you some cool tools or software?

If you want stability with lots of customization/features and good battery life I HIGHLY recommend trying out the ROOTBOX ROM, new updated version 3.8 that you can find in the op here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2117372
The downloads section will take you to the Rootbox site with a list of devices. Find your model and click on ”Official Releases” and it will take you straight to goo.im. If you happen to have battery issues with the default kernel you can always flash another one.

First off I'm not a noob. But nor am I a pro...
Rooted gs4 day 1 before tmobile update. Installed twrp from goo manager then flashed wicked v2.
I've tried to flash Darth stalker since yesterday, it fails every time. Made sure the whole file downloaded
And verified md5. Still fails. Then I tried flashing new wicked v3. Fails as well. Any suggestions?
Only thing I have flashed that did work since I successfully flashed wicked v2 was a cm10.1 nightly but the gapps failed. I currently have a nandroid of stock before wicked v2. Please any advice will be greatly appreciated.

before you flashed Darth, you say you did a nand backup, if so, can you restore the backup, to see if you can recover?
Also, you are not giving many details, like what method use are using to flash and so on. Better details result in better responses.
Good luck.

I'm flashing via twrp. I've recovered twice already. I wipe cache dalvik and data before trying to flash. Is there something special about this phone where there are extra steps needed to flash? I only have like 2.1gb internal memory could that be it? Flashing via twrp in recovery. Have the latest version of twrp

Hey guys Thx for your help.
What I did was use the flash ROM option in goo manager to flash wicked v3. It worked so I'm guessing I need to install twrp again. It doesn't make sense seeing that all goo manager did was take me to twrp recovery. IDK but from now on that's what I'm going to do from now on.
Thx for all your help and for everything you guys do I've been on xda since my first android phone in 2009 and I've recommended you to all my friends who like freedom in their devices. Keep up the good work

When you flash roms like Wicked 2, or 3 or any custom cwm/twrp flashable zip file rom you don't need to
install/flash twrp each time you change and flash a rom.
The TWRP recovery does not get deleted or over-written when you flash wicked rom or any other rom which uses twrp or cwm.
This also holds true if when you make a nandroid backup and restore roms too, you don't need to install/flash twrp.
Once TWRP recovery is installed/flashed on your phone the only way it will get deleted/over-written is if you flash
a full Odin Flash rom like for example, if you flash the stock Odin flash rom it will over write TWRP.
Good luck!
It sounds like you haven't downloaded the full ROM. Verify that the file size matches the link you downloaded from. All my failed flashes have been because the file didn't completely download.

I rooted my GS3, verified root. I am trying to flash ROM, every time I try through Goo manager and TWRP it fails I get error message "no MD5 file" doesn't matter if I download ROM from XDA (when I can find them) or download through Goo Manager. tried to even flash with ODIN, which only let's me restore to Stock ROM/Backup. which had MD5 file. when I try to browse for MD5 files I don't see them in the zipped or unzipped files on my PC, and not in ODIN either. I have verified developer options is on, and I tried with USB bugging on and off. and uncheck verify MD5 as well. I down loaded to pc and have tried to download directly to the device. not running antivirus on device and shut antivirus off on pc. will not copy files from pc to device. Device also stops or seems to loos connection on pc via USB Cable. What am I missing here? this is not rocket science!!
Have you verified MD5 of the ROM? Also, another suggestion, perhaps try to change recoveries from TWRP to CWM. However, you mentioned that you can't even download the Rom to your device? I assume you're able to browse the device's content since you used Odin to stock? Lastly, try to Odin back to stock, root it, flash recovery and give it a go.

Don't flash custom ROMs from goo manager or odin... Do your standard wipes, and flash from recovery. Maybe your recovery needs updated? What version are u on? You can verify md5 sums with a file explorer such as astro or there's even an md5 checker here in the forums. As far as transferring files from PC to phone, is your USB cable good?

I have tried CWM as well. for some reason none of the ROMS no matter where I download from seem to pull the MD5 file, liquid smooth, paranoid 3.69, carbon, none, I try to browse the device for them and nothing. But I can't seem to even do my first flash! I noticed in any of the ROMS I download for some reason it does not pull the MD5 file. I have downloaded from here XDA and other sites, and android forums too! I don't get it. This should be fairly easy according to all the research I have done even before my first attempt. I can root no problem, I used Odin and Samsung GS3 Tool kit.

I even tried different USB Port and Different PC. Still being a bugger! I wish I could find other ROMS more easily on here! or even a little easier on some of the developer sites. I found a work around and pull my ext. SD card and download ROM to that and not on the PC. I found some really Nice one I would like to try but like I said seems to hang on reboot like hour and I get tired of waiting. Thanks for your help! any other suggestions would be GREATLY Appreciated!

The Roms should not be that hard to find and as stated you NEED to verify the MD5 before installing. Thats the long weird numbers/letters in the download sceen. A bad flash is a headache. To double check, you are doing (in CWM or TWRP) wipe data, then wipe cache, then wipe dalvick right? If you dont do those things its a dirty flash and will cause issues. Then in CWM in the install from sdcard screen, try to toggle the signature verification option. Also, sometime when you go from CM to TW and back, it can be a problem. Try wiping/reset from the settings-backup and restore-factory reset option for a super clean wipe. Use caution though as this will delete internal sdcard so back it up and put the rom of choice on external SD. This is a hassle but needs to be done on occasion. If you use titanium backup, copy to folder to external sd and change restore location in preferences.
Something I just found.
I have flashed custom roms to my padfone2 and everything was fine but when I tried to flash zip file with stock rom it showed no md5 file error.
I had a look into the downloaded stock rom zip file and I found out that the actual zip file with rom in it was in a folder inside downloaded zip. As soon as I extracted the zip from downloaded zip and flashed it everything went without a problem. Maybe I'm just stupid not to have look at that in the first place but I hope it helped others. Best of luck everyone.
Good Afternoon sorry for bumping an old thread.
I joined today because I am having the same problem that the original poster had written about.
I have an ATT samsung galaxy s3, I had root access, and verified with super user. I also installed TWRP and CWM because each kept giving me errors when I tried to install CM 11 onto my phone. It also says there was no MD5 information found. I have used the md5 file checker program and the MD5 matches up to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518998
Download:
CM 11.0 Unofficial Beta 7 for d2tmo and d2att
MD5: ef93957db1e6704f23f9015231a82826
So the MD5 matches, yet when I try to install it keeps giving me errors. I also tried other versions of CM that I found on here via links. Right now my phone has no OS as another guide I read some where also said to wipe system data (sorry if that was stupid, I was just following a guideline)
So I'd like to get a working OS on my phone asap so I can get calls and texts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. And being new I'm sorry if I broke any taboos or did not give some information that is typically given when describing a problem.

I can't believe this, because I have downloaded and burned roms before. Now I cannot download a rom and get an md5 file nomatter what I do.
I flashed a new kernel to test and didn't like it, so I reflashed the ROM to get the stock kernel back and all hell broke loose. I lost root access and cant flash anything. I used Odin, re rooted and am on stock rooted 4.2. I've tried both TWRP and CWM to flash a ROM and from 2 different SD cards or restore my backup and it either says bad ROM or MD5 mismatch.
What am I missing here? In the meantime I'm just stock rooted with no mods, only restored user apps through Titanium.

Check to make sure your usb cable is good. Many a time it is tthe usb cable which is bad.
Check to make sure the md5 checksum matches between the file you downloaded and the download itself.. From your device, use md5 checker.
From your pc, there is a similar program to do so.
The ROM has the Kernel cooked into it.
Read the ROM op to make sure.
If you dl a new Kernel file, always check the md5, in addition to inquiring if it's compatible with the ROM.
Always have the Kernel that was working saved somewhere so you can reflash it if necessary.
Always have a Nandroid Backup just in case.
When things don't play nice, always try going into Recovery and wiping
Cache & dalvik cache, and reboot.
Your initial is was:
A Kernel that didn't play nice with the ROM
or a corrupt dl
etc.
Your 2nd issue is most likely related to:
Bad usb cable or
Md5 mismatch, which can be because of a bad dl or a bad usb cabl.

You need to start from scratch, put your phone into DOWLOAD mode and ODIN flash the stock M919 Samsung Galaxy S4 firmware.
(TAR file)
Here is the link to the official stock tmobile m919 firmware for your samsung galaxy s4 phone: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/213469534/9ff06bd/M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB.zip.html
Once you do this you can root the phone if you like or leave it stock.
Good luck!
So I odin'd back to stock and rooted, I may leave it this way, the battery life is killer lol
Thanks for the help guys.
Well I got restless and tried flashing again and still no luck. I odin'd back to stock 4.2 and rooted just fine, have setcpu running and supersu installed but still cant flash anything or restore a backup, I'm really confused now.
While in download mode it says write protection enabled, is this normal? It also says this while I try to delete any files via USB. This is screwy.
Every time I try to download the link, whether to my PC or my phone the zip is invalid.
I can't seem to download and flash ANY custom ROM to my Note 3. I am rooted, running TWRP. I have tried XNote, DarthStalker, Jedi etc. I keep softbricking the phone.
This time while trying to flash XNote I made a backup via TWRP and could not even install it after softbrick with XNote.
I keep having to download stock firmware form SAMMOBILE and flash via ODIN, therefore losing all of my data.
If any more info is needed please let me know and thanks in advance.
Need more info.
What version of recovery are you using?
Are you verifying the md5 before trying to flash to ensure that the rom you downloaded is 100% complete?
RE:
Thanks for your response.
I am unsure on the version, I currently downloaded the 2.6.3.8 and will be flashing after I get the stock MD5 flashed.
Maybe that's the issue.
It will not even connect to Kies ATM.
Hopefully I can flash the stock image because I already had one on file and could not flash it, it stated T Mobile unverified in Odin. I did rename the file so I wonder if that had something to do with it, lol.
Thanks
EDIT:
DarthStalker and Jedi:
Do not download as valid files to my PC or the phone. I used the links from this site.
XNote:
I did not verify the MD5 on first attempt, on the second attempt I did verify with success but it went to bootloop. The files I downloaded might not be valid.
I am frustrated with some links here, I was not registered and attempted to download DarthStalker, Jedi. For some reason my PC says the zips are not valid so I registered with same results. Currently attempting to download LabRats from this site.
