Hello,
first, i read the troubleshooting guide with slcd and blackscreen.
Ok, i got an Desire which shows while starting just the htc logo on white screen. I thought installing an RUU would fix this.
I am not allowed to post a link jet... The RUU is called Ruu-Desire 2.3 GB update.exe
This is the RUU i installed, in another forum it was sayd, that this would work on every phone except t-mobile branded. Mine is vodafone branded.
The RUU stopped at 59% upgrading the recovery.img and completey exitted. The phone shut down and remains black.
Before the RUU it was on version 2.29.62.2, or something like that.
Now it does not start in fastboot or hboot. Remains black and adb/fastboot does not recognize any phone.
So, is there a way to get it back to life?
Greetings

hi.
my device was working perfctly until one day it suddenly vibrated and the screen turned off. i tried turning it on but it vibrates and hangs on the htc green logo. then the only possible way to switch it off is to take the batry out. some times it works normaly but not more than 15-20 mins . i think i was upgrading to froyo and wifi went off. not sure if that is the reason or not. really need an expert advice.
thanks
you have to give phone informations. radio, hboot, branded-undranded etc.

Do you know if your phone has an AMOLED or SLCD screen?
Many phones with Hboot 0.83 and 0.92 are SLCD. Do you have the original box? if so, take a look on the back, and see if it mentions AMOLED for the Display under the specifications.
Tip: You will know if your phone is SLCD if it displays a black background in low light, at certain angles, and it will have a slight grey sheen to the screen. On an AMOLED screen it will remain the same black. If you purchased your phone before July 2010, then it will be AMOLED.
on the back of the box it says 3.7 inches amoled screen. is it a software issue or hardware?
it;s ok. if it is unbranded this http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe is the last 2.2 froyo official.
download it be aware that it is fully downloaded. put your phone in fastboot by turning it off and then press back button+power on.
After it finishes let it reboot(about 5 minutes) after that you can use unrevoked to obtain root and flash a custom recovery (i suggest AmonRa's). then if you want you can flash custom roms.
can we flash with this official rom even if our phone is s-on mode.if not how can we turn s-off the phone like this(which is not opening)

If the phone won't boot, download the ruu, extract zip from ruu, rename to PB99IMG.zip and then put on SD card. Boot into recovery and it should do its thing. Works regardless of s off or s on ( s off or on doesn't matter at all in ruus. Not related whatsoever.)

This is a step-by-step guide for Newbies..
One tiny bit of advice..
Though you bought the phone from a store, it is likely that it might be branded to HTC. Boot up your phone by holding the back key+Power button. You should do a "fastboot oem gencheckpt" command from the folder where fastboot.exe is installed. This will show your CID number, which can confirm whether branded or not. If you're absolutely sure that it's unbranded, proceed with the WWE RUU based Pb99img.zip
the problem is that on white menu there is no fastboot or boot section the only written thing is ruu

Do you have your original RUU file? Are you branded (if branded, you will need a Gold Card to proceed with the method suggested below) or unbranded?
You could try extracting the rom.zip from the RUU, and copy it to your Desktop, then rename the rom.zip to PB99IMG.zip. After renaming it, you mount your SD card and place it to the root of your SD card using a card reader or another phone that accepts micro sd cards, unmount your sd card and then turn off your phone. Finally, enter bootloader and let the phone run the PB99IMG file.
Also try getting into Fastboot by holding the back button whilst turning on the phone, it should work for you then.
Hi all,
Desperately need some help to stop me geting a whack off the wife
First off the phone is an O2 branded desire with an SLCD screen.
I rooted it using the unrevoked method and installed leedroid. That all went ok
Now sometimes the phone switches itself off and the wife wants it put back to stock, no problem i said.
So i dont need a goldcard ( i think) as the phone is stll O2 branded.
I downloaded the stock O2 RUU:
RUU_Brav2_UK_1.20.207.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.0
2_2_release_124865.exe...
Connected the phone to the computer via usb cable and clicked on the RUU exe and followed the onscreen instructions.
PC said everything was successful and i clicked on "finish"
Now, the screen remained black so i left it for 5 mins, still black.
I removed and re-inserted the battery and switched on, i get the vibration and tje screen still remains black
Can anyone help me out as if you knew my wife you wouldn't want to get her angry

Try the FroYo one:

Are you able to boot into the recovery menu? (volume up/down (don't remember which) + powerkey when phone is off).
If so, grab clockwordmod recovery as an update.zip, then you can launch update.zip (which will load clockworkmod) from which point you can of course flash new roms, etc etc.
If not, I think there are other threads in this forum about gaining USB/ADB access, from which you can then load clockworkmod and do the same.
Hi Sparksalot,
I cannot get into anything as the screen is just black.
When i press the power button after reinserting the battery i get the initial vibration so i presume it is doing something just that i cannot see it as the screen stays black.
I will continue to read threads but i suppose if i cannot see what the phone is doing i wil not be able to fix it

Bernie
@EDDYOS,
thanks for that, will download and give it a go
Big up to eddyos yaaay
YEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS GET IN
Many thanks to Eddyos for posting the RUU.
Downloaded, installed and works perfect

Hi,
A friend gave me a broken Desire. It wouldn't turn on at all. I have a Desire myself so tried my battery, still nothing. I also tried his battery in mine and it works perfect, so I don't think its a battery issue.
I put the Desire into the freezer for 15 minutes and it turned on fine. Booted up, I was able to USB tether it and put a ROM zip file on the SD card. I then tried to do a "adb devices" and it rebooted to the "quietly brilliant" logo and made the boot sound.
It then vibrated 7 times and turned off.
Now It won't turn on again.
I've pulled the battery about 5 times and its still not doing anything. No light comes on when I put it on charge.
The phone is well past warranty at this stage. I'm not sure but I think its either a PVT-3 or PVT-4.
If I put it in the freezer again, and flash a new ROM, is there any way it can be usable again, or is the only option to buy a new motherboard off eBay? OR sell the phone for parts?
Thanks.
Try to run a RUU. Search in index thread in development section.

Several vibrations at boot indicate to a hardware issue. AFAIK it was something to do with the CPU.
The Desire has a mainboard in 2 parts. The upper and lower board. You could just try to buy the one with the CPU (forgot which one that was, do some digging) and connect it to your phone, and I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work.
OK thanks for the suggestion.

I will just try the first one in the list tonight.
Don't try the first from the list, download 2.3 RUU from htcdev site, you have the instruction in my signature.
thanks,
I tried the download link in your sig, but it said it could not connect to the phone. I think it said USB Connection Error.
Do I need to have a SIM/SD card in it? I just booted it up to the initial welcome screen without the SIM. Does this matter?
PS, its S-ON.

Another thing i just noticed there.
It was running fine until I did an "adb devices". Then it rebooted and died again, just after I pulled it out of the freezer.
Is it possible I'm getting all this trouble because of a USB brick?
Your device is pvt3 so it's not likely that you have a motherboard overheating issue.
My question is do you have htc sync installed, cause ruu requires it, or at least fastboot and bootloader drivers?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Flashes and Thunders
I have the android SDK installed, so I was using "adb devices" and fastboot from "program files/android/android-sdk/platform-tools".
Do I need the other drivers from HTC Sync? Or will the Android SDK ones do?
Use htc sync drivers, they perfectly do the job.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Flashes and Thunders
OK I'll install them now and try it.
BTW, I installed a custom ROM on the phone and its still behaving the same way. Will a RUU make any difference to just reflashing a ROM?
The HTC Sync drivers detected the phone and it then rebooted to some black HTC update screen.
It then started to update, but then vibrated 7 times. The progress bar moved on a slight bit after that but now its stuck on 26%.
Also, on the phone, where the progress bar is, at the end of it, theres a little white triangle with a white exclamation point inside it...
I'm curious should I pull the battery or what?
Wait for some more time, but now I'm definitely sure that you have a HW issue.
Try again with freezer.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Flashes and Thunders
Well I tried with the freezer again.
This time it managed to go to 100%. The RUU said it was successful and that my phone was now ready for use.
It then rebooted to the white HTC screen, and then vibrated 7 times.
I held volume down and power and it booted into the menu, and I saw the HBOOT is now gone from the 0.93.0001 to some 1.00 version, so the phone was definitely updated anyway.
Its back in the freezer again now. lol
After freezer it will probably boot, and then die again after some time.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Flashes and Thunders
Thats my guess too.
I am just turning it on now.
Once it boots, is there any apps I can install that can test the hardware for faults, so I can finally know for sure what the problem is?
Don't know for app like that.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Flashes and Thunders
Well, it booted anyway. Went about half way through the setup wizard, as far as the "Connect to wifi" part, then it rebooted to the white screen, where it vibrated 7 times.
Whats odd this time is that it rebooted after the 7 vibrations, and then booted again to the white screen and vibrated again 7 times. It rebooted like this 3 or 4 times, and now its off again.
I pulled the battery, and turned it on again and now its doing the same. Vibrating 7 times, rebooting, vibrating 7 times, rebooting etc. This time its in a loop and has rebooted 9 times so far, and counting. Each time vibrating 7 times and rebooting...
There should be no doubt that it's hardware issues(and as the freezer works, it is likely some overheating of sorts). Either throw it out or buy a cheap ass desire with a broken screen second hand and replace whatever is broken om the new device with what you have from you friend.
Also stop freezing it, it will likely cause water dammage inside at some point.
Long story short, I flashed under the recovery console a wrong bootloader image(only the bootloader, nothing else). Now the phone doesn`t turn on, charging led dead, screen dead, everything dead, usb connection dead. Fastboot devices won`t give me anything, adb also nothing, in computer`s device manager also nothing detected. Any ideeas? Thanks!
I am afraid its a hard brick!
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
I kinda thought the same way. Now I`m hoping for that miracle with..pulling the battery out and waiting a few hours to "heal" to happen, if not it`s just another brick in the wall?
What "bootloader.img" did u flash?

You only flashed the bootloader? Not the entire ruu?
Unless you get to boot somehow, your phone is a genuine brick.
Yes, only the bootloader. Any ideea how to get it to boot?
Maybe a buspirate can revive a hard brick?
Alive again
So, I made it boot again, using jtag, reflashed the right bootloader. But when I go to hboot and try to flash the rom from the micro-sd, it vibrates a few times and that`s it, doesn`t do anything, buttons stop working. Tried to flash it with fastboot via usb, same thing, tried the RUU utility, and when it says rebooting into bootloader, it also vibrates and dies. In hboot it gets stuck at checking the zip and parsing. So, last night I decided to give up, but then I remembered I saw on the internet some heat related problems, although my htc didn`t got hot or anything, so I put it in the freezer at -18 degrees celsius for half an hour, without the battery and micro-sd. After about 30 min, I put the battery and micro-sd, and for my surprise, it flashed it from the micro-sd, no errors, it booted, got it working. Ok, I removed the battery and let it dry a few hours. Put the battery back, turned it on, it gets stuck in bootloop. Put it back to freezer for 30 mins, works flawless. So, I believe there is a hardware problem, more likely electrical contacts on the board, since i don`t feel any heat coming out from the phone.
So, I tried t root my phone, I bootloaded it,
All went well, but then i had to S-Off it, i followed some steps on a site
but now my phone wont start up, it gets stuck,
when I turn it off, it automatically turns on again to the white screen with the HTC logo
Can somebody please help????
