Hey XDA,
For a little while now, whenever I unplug my phone, it doesn't realize that is not charging for about 5 seconds or so. I find this pretty strange, does anyone know why this happens, and a possible way to fix it?

What rom are you using, and have you tried using a different charger or cleaning the port

I had this problem a while back, a new micro USB cable fixed the issue for me.

I'm actually not rooted at all. Just stock. And I haven't, I'll try it.
I've seen that happen with mine, also the reverse - not recognizing it's been plugged in for a few seconds. No problem - don't worry about it.

Hello,
Today when I restarted my phone, it got stuck on the "Goodbye" screen for longer than normal, then flashed the camera 3 times before shutting off. What is going on? Anyone have a similar issue? I am on stock, rooted.
Thanks

It may be an android thing. I remember my HD2 used to do this from time to time. I never found out why it does that though...
This happens to me quite often. Sometimes it just stay lit until the phone is completely off. It's just weird

Is it really worth it to replace my phone for this? It has only happened once over 5 months. How much did it happen to you? Does it signal something wrong with the phone if it has just happened once?
If it doesn't mean that something is wrong with my phone, I wouldn't really want to go through the hassle of a return :\
It happens to me and my brother randomly. Not a big deal

Do they replace with a brand new unopened box or a refurbished unit?
Lol really? ..jeez some of you complain about everything and anything.

And then people wonder why the whole process of getting a replacement phone keeps getting worse.

Anyone can replicate this. While your phone is on, hold power/Vol up/Vol down all at the same time for about 10 seconds. That forces a reboot and your camera will flash until you let go.

Well. .
My phone flashes once (quickly) when it shuts off with no battery. It doesn't happen to me anytime I shut it off or restart it.
Hey guys, I'm having an issue with my Galaxy Nexus (Running JB 4.1.1 on takju). The phone will randomly turn on the screen on for a second or two then turn it off, over and over again. At one point it consumed 40% battery in like 2 hours. I installed Juice Defender Ultimate and it seemed to stop it for a while until today when it started a few minutes ago. The activity log says on JuiceDefender just says the time and screen on (user present)
Does anybody have a clue of what might be happening? Thanks for you help
You probably have a dirty USB port. Its happened to me and many others. The phone thinks its charging so it wakes up.
Turn it off and pull the battery. Try to clean out the port with a toothpick or another small tool. Make sure the USB pin is straight.
Hopefully after a reboot it will be back to normal.

Thanks for the quick response, I'm about to try that out. Hopefully it works!
I tried cleaning it out with a toothpick but it didn't help that much, it started to do it again, then it stopped and now it started again. For the straightness of the USB pin, how is it supposed to look it? Is there anything else I can do? I'll try to clean it a bit more right now
Check out this thread for other options http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427539
As for the USB pin just make sure it comes straight out and not bent down or up.
Good luck!

Thanks for your help, I cleaned it out again and when I turned the phone on it began again for a minute and now it has stopped. Hopefully it'll stop doing it again.
So after I cleaned out the usb port and I even used rubbing alcohol to clean it. I also straightened out the usb pin, I am still having issues with the screen turning on and off on its own. Is there anything else that could be causing this problem for me?

Thanks, I installed it and hopefully it might give some answers. Also, as I am typing this up, the screen will still turn on and off by itself even when it's plugged in and currently charging. It's really frustrating.
Since December I've been running CM10 on my GS-III with little to no issues. I flash CM 10.1 mid January and even though it was an unstable nightly it was very stable.
Flashing the nightlies as they became available with no issues at all.
Then today my phone starts slowing down and froze up.
Keep in mind that I hadn't flashed a nightly in like a day or 2 do I had been using the past nightly as a daily driver.
When my phone decided to freeze I rebooted it and it booted just fine.
About 2 minutes in the screen goes black. Holding the power button it's unresponsive.
Now my phone is completely unresponsive to all button presses. I've tried the 3 button combos for recovery and download mode with no luck. I've even held the buttons for a full minute but nothing is working.
Is my phone dead or is there a possibility of resurrecting it?

Are you positive the battery hasn't died. That would be the first thing I would check. Even if it showed it was charging doesn't mean the battery is good. I'm not trying to be insulting either by asking this. I'm a equipment tech at a large semiconductor company and you wouldn't believe the number of times the fix was as simple as turning a breaker back on when another tech wanted to replace something major. #1 rule of troubleshooting: Is there power. #2 rule: Double check rule #1. Sounds silly, but it is the easiest thing to overlook. Good luck and I hope it's as simple as a battery.

No you're not insulting by asking that. I use to record music and when something wasn't wasn't working that's the first thing we asked and re asked.
Unfortunately I do believe I checked that out. When I plug in a charger it doesn't even show me a battery charging logo.
I have noticed that when I pull out the battery and connect the charger the led turns red.
I'll see if i can't swap batteries with one of my friends and see if that helps.

I have tried the 3 button combos for T-Mobiles variant of the GS-III with no luck either.... I even tried making a jig and didn't have much luck....
Next step is to buy a jig and see if that works
Thankfully I got a replacement GS-III from insurance. So I'm content... Also since I get to keep the other GS-III as well it feels even nicer.

I would try another battery first. You said you were going to try this but I don't see where you confirmed that it wasn't the issue.
Hmm you could have ran into that now infamous mb crash and burn error although I'm not sure how since you were running aosp. Anyone else want to chime in?

Try another battery, I'm betting that's the issue. T-Mobile will have one or two on hand in store so you can try
Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on a spare battery to test this with as soon as I'm off work.

Yeah first of lets make sure its not the battery and the jig forces the phone to boot into download mode if im not mistaken.. It is intended for users having similar issues / unresponsive devices...

Well unfortunately the spare battery i used on my phone was no good in getting the phone to respond.
Now my next step is to attempt to hope that the jig will do something for my phone.
If not i guess that i will have a nice paper weight of luxury lol
Either that or i can sell it to someone.
So far those are the only options that i think i have at the moment.

Flash STOCK or different ROM (Don't forget kernel too) think the issue is with the Cyanogenmod, mine did something similar, when screen went dark it took literally 5-10 Power button presses to wake the phone up, sometimes it wouldn't respond, other soft keys only would light up, Make backup, Wipe, install, check everything, that what I would do

The phone is dead. My friend's gs3 died suddenly one day while I just happen to be using it. I plugged in an otg plug and few minutes later the screen just went black. I was sure it was dead when I plug in a charger and there was no sign of life from the phone.
I don't know if you have to pay a deductible but Samsung is supposedly replacing galaxy s3 for free because there is a known defect which cause the motherboard to go bad. My friend's was a Verizon model and they just replaced it free.

Of course it does! The rom, the kernel, any tweak apps your running, regular apps... Lots of things can be responsible. Since no one here has your device in their hand it's very difficult to assist you without you providing as much information as possible. Your asking for help, you have a problem not the ones trying to help you. So do yourself a favor and give the information requested, unless you like your phone re booting constantly.

How is it shutting off, does it vibrate when shutting off or just straight to black, like you just pulled battery. If it vibrates as it powers down, likely a rom and/or kernel related issue, if it's just straight to black like you pulled the battery, likely a battery, battery pins or a failing power control module.

I've had the same problem twice. The first time I tried the old "Jimmy the pon" trick, where I bent the USB pin gently upwards so that it made better contact with the charger. It fixed it and was fine for a while, but the problem has returned and no amount of bending of the pin helps. Feels like a hardware issue that needs a replacement. Don't think that's doable.
