So I've had my OTG cables (eBay/Amazon) for quite some time now. A couple of days ago it just stopped working. I was using it to transfer files from thumb drive to/from the phone. My buddy has the exact phone I do Galaxy Note 2 and both cables I have work fine on his phone but not on mine? Phone detects that the OTG is inserted with the usual "USB Connector Connected" notification but when a USB memory stick is inserted it will not show the "USB MASS Storage" notification and I can't see the memory stick in file manager. Occasionally (1 in 20 tries) and after a reboot, it will see the stick and allow me to explore the contents. I have tried 2 different cables that used to work fine with my phone and several USB sticks that also used to work and still do work on my buddies phone.
All other functionality of the phone remains perfect as it is fairly new. Charging through USB works fine, transferring data from USB to PC also works fine. I have looked into the port with a magnifying glass and it is clean and shows no signs of debris or pocket lint and the cable has a good feel when it is inserted. Positive click.
I tried to do a restore factory settings today and still it's totally hit and miss with either OTG cable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Wow 60 views and not one suggestion. Guess this must not be a common thing at all.
I just tried it and works fine for me. Maybe try a different rom or custom kernel and see if it works then...I really dont have any suggestions
Galaxy Note 2
You said you tried the cables on your buddies phone but have you tried different cables on your phone?
Also this might help you.
Its meant for the gs3 but i can confirm works great on my n2. I see the dev has updated the op and others are saying the same.

:silly: "Bonk on the head!" I just remembered that several weeks ago while using a 2-port cigarette lighter to charge my Note 2 and iPad at the same time resulted in a funny burning smell. I took apart this charger (Amazon) and it was fried and melted on inside and obviously was of questionable quality. I guess at the time I didn't think anything of it because both the iPad and GN2 work and charge and sync perfectly well.
I've ordered a replacement charging port. Looks dead simple to change and phone itself looks much easier to take apart than the iPhone was. I found a site that sells the OEM charge port. I picked up an extra headphone jack as well since they are cheap. Yesterday while phone was charging in car, it woke up several times with the sound indicating a charger had been plugged in even though the cable was already plugged in securely.
I have also purchased the OEM Samsung OTG USB cable that was available for the Galaxy S2. I realize that the GN2 micro USB port has 11 pins but from what I have read the extra pins are for MHL HDMI output and there is no 11 pin OTG cable in existence but the port on the GN2 is backward compatible with 5 pin USB OTG.
Fixed
Today I pulled the phone apart and fixed the charging port USB OTG problem. Both cables that I have now are in working state.
This repair was VERY easy and took about 15min. with proper tools.

Please let me know how you fixed it. I am facing this same issue for past 2 weeks. Is it a hardware problem?

OP said it was a hardware issue for him. OP said replacing the small pc board and ribbon cable with the Micro USB port on it fixed the issue for him. I have replaced the USB port on my wife's Note 2 in the past (for a different reason, that is stopped charging.) It is a relatively easy repair, if you have the correct tools. You have to take the phone completely apart to replace the board, so you will need the small plastic tool to separate the bezel, as well as a small screw driver. There are walk through videos available.
If you decide to try this, avoid buying a cheap part. I bought a replacement part for about $5.00 from an e-bay supplier, but the company sent me two of them, and neither one worked. I bought a good one from and would recommend ETradeSupply out of Texas. That link is for the exact part. You will also pay for shipping, but it will be a good part. You can also buy the tools you need there if you want.

Anyone experiencing a loose usb port. I just got my ATT Tilt2 last week and noticed that the usb plug can be wiggled while inserted, which makes it lose the usb connection.
i have the tmobile version and it jiggles ever so slightly...had it for about 3 weeks now...my old mda usb port broke so i ame very conscious of this issue...
also, the keypad seems a little loose around the spacebar area, like its starting to come unglued
...
My old HTC Vogue developed that problem after about 1 year of use. My week old Tilt2 is quite snug. I don't think it's normal for the plug to be loose enough to lose the connection on a brand new phone.
Try a different USB cable. Not all USB jacks and cables are created equal, I have a few USB cables from other devices with the plug slightly too big for my phones (I don't want to force them in) and a few others that are too loose for them, thus difficult in making a good connection.
Over the last several weeks I've noticed that the USB port is a lot looser. Now if I accidentally just touch the USB cable (the official HTC one) it will lose synch and reconnect.
And actually, if I'm charging via USB on laptop, it is now LOSING charge rather than charging :s

All of these parts are inexpensive and user-replaceable. Might be irritating that it should not be in need of repair but I would not let it f up your day.
Loose USB MIGHT be related to the female receiver end having a loose cinch plate. Use a magnifiying glass and a toothpick to check it. If that is not it, a cinch of the male end with a needle nose plier, just a tiny bit, might do the trick.
I'm going to call ATT warranty and see whether this is normal. I have tried several cables, all are about the same. Will see what they say. Thanks for the replies.

On the phone with them right now. They are offering to replace the phone.
I purchased 2 of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005OSURT2/ref=oh_o05_s00_i00_details
and NEITHER one worked with my Gnex!! It wouldn't sync, charge or anything.
Is there ANY way to get a STOCK USB for the Gnex? (the one that came with the phone, http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SCH-I515MSAVZW-accessories last item on the 2nd page)
Also had problems with other micro USB chargers.....a lot seem to have some sork of short in theme.....lose power when I move the phone around....how hard is it to find a working cable? Anyone with similar issues?
I have various cheap eBay micro usb cables and OEM ones and they all work. Perhaps take a look at your gnex micro USB port? Maybe a piece of dust is in there. Or the contacts are screwed. Its probably more complicated than that, but it doesn't hurt to check. GL
I'm using USB cables I got for very cheap and they all worked so far...can you try the cables with another phone?
Hmm well I can try when I get home. My Droid 2 was the same way! only the stock USB would work and a few aftermarket micro USBs wouldnt work! And you guessed it, my Droid 2 USB worked fine with my GNex :S
I bought 2 of these cables and they work just fine:

They look like the one that comes with that charger, though. Very odd.
I have always had the best luck with the oem motorola micro usb cables. Well made and never a charging or pc connectivity issue and you can usually find them cheap on Amazon.
I have one cable that plugged into PC or into my AC jack gives me just AC, no data connection.
My other usb cable charges but no AC and gives data.
I bought this charger + cable combo.
They are the same models that come with the phone. They work flawlessly.
The kit was a little cheaper back then, but definitely beats having to order random cables till one of them works.

Ditto! works like a charm.
Most of my micro USB cables work, but this one that came with an LG Optimus One (and worked on my Nexus One, HTC Panache, Nook Color) does not register in my GNex. Not sure why - maybe something about the shape of the port or the depth.

Thats weird cuz a different cable came with mine! looks a lot nicer...
Bought mine from seller Yellow deals using the same links posted in this thread. The charger itself works, but the U4 micro USB cable does not for both charging and data transfer. Bummer.
My dad has an Optimus V and I have a Galaxy Nexus. His cord won't charge my Nexus and my cord won't charge his phone.
I wasn't sure why it was this way.
I've tried all kinds of LG chargers and LG usb cables, and none of them work.

I'm almost sure that you manage to damage your USB port, just like I did. It won't do anything but charge AC only through pc and nothing more, no matter what cable I use.
I'm just waiting for my replacement part arive from Hong Kong. 1,5 month already and no word of it. I guess it take that much time anyway.

That'd be tragic. I dont think thats the case because GNex #1, GNex #2 and Droid 2 all had the same issue (certain cords short out, stock ones do not) So I am leaning towards manufactures quality....Just ordered 2 different cheap ones from ebay....waiting....
Definitively a damaged port. I bought a port from Hong-Kong as well, and it took 6 weeks to ship!!
After replacing it the phone charges with all my cables though.

Bought 2 of these cables from monoprice:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=4868&seq=1&format=2
Tested them with both the OEM charger and the HTC T-Mobile myTouch 3G Car Charger and both give AC power.
Turns out NOT to be the port(or at least i dont think so) I got a cheap $1 one from Ebay and an AWESOME cable from Amazon!! Love it! check it out, looks like a rope xD http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003V42O6K/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details
They both work great
(Not a native english speaker, sorry for any bad writing) Good Afternoon, first post made in this forum and I'm very desperate to find out why my tablet is not charging, I have tryed with 2 different charges and 3 usb cables but nothing, but when i connect a OTG cable with or without a USB pendrive in it, this will be recognized so i'm not not sure what the problem may be.
It is the chargers?
The Micro USB cables?
Or the Power Source?
Plz help me. Thank you.
Edit: Forgot to add, it will occasionally after several Hours to start charging back, but if i move it just a little bit it will stop charging.

This is your problem: loose USB charging port. Search Ebay for this part, may be cheaper if from China
Be aware that a defective USB port can read data but not charging or vice versa.

Replace this one is easy, just need taking the back cover off, remove two screws from this USB flex FPCB. Make sure search YouTube how to open the rear cover. Open the wrong way, you'll permanent damage it. Don't ever use metal prying tool to open the case.
This one is just an example:

I've had my G4 since almost launch day and within weeks the supplied USB cable stopped charging the phone. I thought it was a cable problem, but it worked fine with other devices.
I tried other cables with the G4 and these still charged it so I thought nothing more of it until charging degraded with every USB cable I own to where the phone would only charge 20-30% during an overnight charge and the phone would frequently not recognise it was plugged in at all. I contacted LG who did a repair under warranty and all was fine.
I've now had the repaired phone back for about 3 weeks and the same problems are starting up again and it's only a matter of time until I am forced to return again for a repair.
Is anyone else having similar problems? I thought I may have just had an unlucky manufacturing problem, and the LG reps confirmed that to repair my phone they basically replace all the internal circuit boards and components rather than just replacing the individual component that is faulty (in this case the USB/charging port)
Basic debugging includes asking stupid questions, so please forgive but still answer any of those
Are you using a different charger? If so, check if that one is within specifications and if you do send in for repair again, use a different charger.
Are you propping up the device at an odd/weird angle or in a dock of some sort with the cable attached?
(As they replaced the entire print, it's probably not this, just the USB-micro port bent or broken.)
You could double check the wall outlets being used, there might be some kind of electrical problem there.
Either using all kinds of fancy electical testing gadgets, or stick a USB light into the hub or charger, does it flicker?
When sending it back for repairs, did they check the stock charger as well?
Hopefully these questions help you find any logical or plausible cause.

Hi FreezyExp,
1. I am using the standard charger that came with the phone, but this has not been repaired/replaced. I have tried other chargers too, but all the same issue.
2. No weird propping up or anything like that. If I hold my phone while it is plugged in it is constantly vibrating as the charger connects and disconnects, and if I place it on the desk to charge I have to ensure that I have at least 3-4" of cabe "on the desk" to give it enough support to make the connection.
3. Wall connection is fine and I have tried it with a range of outlets around the home, both with extension sockets used and plugged directly into the wall and there is no different. No flickering light when using a USB light either.
4. When I sent it back all they asked me to return was the main section of the handset - so no battery or rear cover, no cables or chargers etc
It does seem to be the same issue as last time, a USB connection becoming loose from the main motherboard, but it seems weird that I have had the same issue twice in the space of 4-5 months.
I've been having some sort of problem with my G4 usb port. If I plug it in to a computer, it will lose connection and get a connection again if I barely touch the end of the cord at the phone end. I've tried many different cords and different usb ports on my computer, but it still has problems.
I can't fast charge, either. When I plug it in to fast charge, it actually starts discharging even faster. I've had some extreme battery life problems, too. It drained from 100-36 the other night with everything disabled, and it's been doing that kind of thing a lot lately. I'm guessing that the charging port is what's messing up my battery life because it won't charge correctly.
Never dropped it or anything.
I got my G4 on January 24 and my USB port has also failed. I am getting a replacement from Verizon, but am concerned that a six month old phone has this issue.
I also own a G4 H815. A while ago the phone started not receiving any charge from the cable and I would have to prop it up from right under the cable's micro usb end. Thought it was because it was bent inside the port and not making connection with the cable so I had the port replaced. Now I'm experiencing the same problem and I think it might be the cable that's already gone kaput and is effing up the port itself. I took the phone to the same place to get the port replaced again and bought new cables (I lost both the original adapter and the cable, which were charging slow anyway. Now using a 2A Asus adapter which works great) and when I asked the guy at the repair shop, he says it's a chronic issue with G4 devices. I don't really understand how it would happen twice in just a few months even with a new charger port. What should I make of this? Did they replace my port with an already faulty one, cahrged me full price and now trying to sell this bogus or am I really doomed with this phone?
I have a problem with my note 8.0 for about a month. One time it's charging just fine, the other time it doesn't charge at all... The same with connecting with computer via USB. No matter what cable/charger i use. Suprisingly i can flash it, with no problem and i can connect USB stick via OTG anytime. I also tried opening it and removing battery for several hours, but that only worked once. Anyone has any idea what can i do next to solve this problem?
I use an app called Galaxy Charging Current. It enables you to get a rough idea of what the current of your device is drawing:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent.free
For a Galaxy Note 8, it should be around 2 Amps, or 2000 mA, but it's likely to be around 1.7ish. I also use a device like this: http://amzn.eu/9aHm97o which you can also use to check current draw and test cables.
Not much help, but it may help you find out whether the device is taking a charge, or if there's a fault with a cable or charger.

After time the USB port gets loose around its connector, and does not hold the cable end tightly. Try replacement USB port. They are cheap and easy to replace.
Another thing is some aftermarket USB cables have weak connectors. Lightly crimp the center with small pliers as to compress top and bottom. I said lightly. It will put more pressure to the internal contacts so they are snug. May take a few attempts as you may be too light on crimping, but that is a good thing.

Clean your cable heads with fingernail polish remover
Let it dry some and push it in and out of the charging port til you get proper amps
