[Q] Phone won't ring - HTC One X

Help
I have a weird issue with my One-X. Phone has original HTC ROM, works Ok, but it wont ring when I receive a phone call. It vibrates but won't ring.
I tried restarting the phone and it solved the problem for a while, but now I have the issue again. I restarted the phone again but it didn't work this time
Do you guys think it is a ROM or hardware problem?
I think may be updating the phone with a custom ROM may fix the problem, but I am not sure
What do you recommend?

Edit:
Is your bootloader locked?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Is the bootloader still locked. If so make a backup with the app carbon and perform a factory reset from the bootloader !
Did you install any apps that might interfere somewhere ?

Don't recommend a custom rom right away, even a stock rom should not give this kind of behaviour. And when he is still locked he has warranty. When he unlocks the bootloader, try a custom rom and it is a hardware issue with the speaker he is screwed because he voided the warranty !

I installed Avast! Mobile Security.. do you think it can cause this issue?

Well i would take out all possibilities, uninstall all apps that you installed lately, reboot and check again. Otherwise i recommend the factory reset from the bootloader menu

Yeah, you are right thats the reason I asked if his bootloader is still locked.
Its not a good advice to unlock bootloader when having a HW prob.
But if its already unlocked, why not try a custom rom?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Well then its more wisely to cut away the comment about custom roms, because some people will take the advice as plain common and do it right away ! ...........and .......pooooof .....bye bye warranty

My HOX does the same: for about three weeks it begun to rest in silence (especially mornings). Usually the reboot solves the silence-problem, but not always. Isn't it possible, that the phone has problem with the sound driver? Or the phone works otherwise than a pc?
The interesting thing is, that my father's HOS did the same, and he had to do a hard reset, to get the sound back on his phone.
Hope, that's only sw problem, and will be solved with the future update(s).
Any good adwise?

Yeah....do a factory reset from the bootloader menu
But you loose all apps and settings, so be careful !

[Q] Disable Key Lights

Hi,
Is it possible to disable the two bright white lights behind the keys on the front of the Arc S?
I have an app called Screen Filter that can perform this function but it keeps a notification active.
I'd rather just permanently disable them.
Also I don't have root (I don't want the hassle of wiping everything, downgrading, upgrading, etc)
Thanks,
Andy
No you can't .... Specially if you don't have root and bootloader is locked .... Rooting and unlocking bootloader is opening an all bunch of new possibilities
Good luck

But if I unlock bootloader I can't get OTA updates (So no ICS when it gets launched in a few months).
Not really... you can get OTA updates with unlocked BL... On SOME cases it bricked the phone, but there is already a workaround it...
I just never read anything about the backlights being related to the BL... I don't think anyone ever tried it...
Anyway, unlocking it voids your warranty, but you can always get the updates from here... It's up to you...
Cheers...

Nopeee! So many devs are working here in trying to port the ICS beta ROM to the Arc. They will release a rooted version of the ICS ROM along with a recovery for unlocked bootloaders.

cant disable it without editing framework, framework are very sensitif,i can try to disable it for you,but you have to root first..
from the ARC
Amazed with the replies...
Certainly u can disable the lights between the Back-Home-Menu buttons..
Download following app :
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.haxor
Uncheck the 'Enable Softkey backlight' option and there u r !
Hit Thanks if my post helped u..

If u want to remove the notification, u need to get the pro app as per my frnd.. but I searched alot and could nt find the pro app.. But I dont see any problem in having the notification... Atleast u can get rid of the bloody back lights..
^ Yeap it worked.

anyone?
this effect usually happens if you at some point installed a camera mod and then reverted to stock.
wipe your phone and install a RUU to be completely stock and try again.
if it doesn't work, it's hardware.

Yes it will void parts of your warranty. Custom roms will improve your Android experience but if your not tech savvy I wouldn't bother, you could possibly have a hardware issue so I would call in your warranty and let htc fix it

RUU=custom rom?
i contact htc already, they will pick up my phone 28/8 for repair
before that,i wan to try repair it myself first
If you've got HTC collecting it already, why worry about a custom ROM in the meantime?
If you're not sure on what it involves, you can make a mess of your phone.
Wait and get it repaired / replaced?

htc only pickup the phone on 28/8
more than 10 days i have to wait
so back to the question
what wrong with my camera?
and
ruu void waranty?
No stock ruu won't but you will need to find out your cid using adb and find the correct ruu for your cid. If you get the wrong one you will have a bad flash and probably will be unable to use your phone
You need to research it if you f**k it up htc will be billing you for repair and their not cheap
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
You don't seem experienced with using ROMs so I really wouldn't try and fix this yourself. Installing a RRU still requires the relatively risky task of using ROMs — and HTC will most likely reject your phone when they take it for repairs or charge fees.
Did you install a third-party camera app before this problem started? If so, wiping the app's data and/or trying a factory reset is pretty much all you can do. Anything more is going to involve voiding your warranty and messing around with things that could cause even more problems.
If the problem came out of nowhere, it is very possible a hardware fault. It does happen, and there's nothing you can do about it except let HTC repair it. This is why it's not wise to use custom ROMs until you've had the phone for a while, just in case a fault appears.

O2 OTA Red Triangle of Death

Hello Guys (and gals). Having an issue applying O2's new 2.17 OTA update. I did have my device rooted and CWM installed but noting else after that (no custom roms, etc.). I have tried every unrooting method (flashboot signed recovery and signed boot, relocking bootloader, etc), running RUU manually (only O2 UK RUU is 1.26 - my device was OTA 1.29, hboot 0.96 so I am getting 140 Bootloader version error).
Is there anything i can do to force on the legit O2 OTA that was released (past the phone going down a storm drain and the insurance claimed for a new device??? Not that I would do that of course ). I would like to be able to run OTA's handy in the future - but rooting does have its benifits - but for now, any assist on helping with the O2 OTA would be greatly appreciated.
You cannot accept an OTA update with CWM installed.
You must have stock recovery installed to accept the OTA.

You can't use a ruu lower than the version your on now, you need 1.29 or 2.17

I'm pretty sure I can - the bootloader screen came up when I tried to install the update.
And no, I've never flashed the system mods or deleted any system apps, but would i need to check with the guy I bought it from first?
Being a complete noob at this stuff - will going to the boot screen do anything if I don't do anything from there?

Just going into the bootloader won't cause any damage.
What version are you on now? You could always run a ruu to get it back to complete stock then try performing the ota.

[Q] is it possible to remotely enable wi-fi or mobile data for htc one x?

i need to have a connection to authenticate my gmail account bcause my friend maxed out pattern attempts. i know the pattern, i know the gmail account, usb debug is unfortunately off as well as wi-fi and mobile data connection. i managed to turn on the bluetooth (if that would help) while randomly tapping home capacitive button and while doing it my home screen abruptly shows up then back to authenticate screen.
i also don't want to do factory reset right now, i have important multimedia files and messages and doing factory reset will erase them.
i know the IMEI, serial number of my htc one x unit, still have the box if someone from htc can do it remotely. hopefully.
also, if there would be any other way that the gallery and/or messages can be recovered please help me.
thanks a lot! don't care if it will be almost a week that it's been locked, but it's starting to be an inconvenience but still tolerable for me...
please help me,
I'm sure if you try wrong patterns too many times, a option for forgot pattern pops up. You enter your Gmail details and you're good to go.
Didn't that work out?
Ps - I'm not really sure if such is the case when you have no connectivity.
Are you rooted?
If yes, go to recovery and backup. Either flash same rom with cache wipe or flash new rom and restore data.
You'll be good.
Also in recovery you could mount usb and copy media off.

Ok, so your not rooted therefore you will not have a custom recovery.
I wonder if you could go into bootloader, then have fastboot usb access. Unlock your bootloader. Flash a custom recovery. Copy off your stuff through recovery usb mount. Then flash a new Rom. What you will lose is everything on the phone but you should save your photos and stuff.

I would stick with athulele's route if i were you - triple check it doesnt work before trying a sledge hammer approach.
If not then I know that unlocking the bootloader through htcdev will wipe your phone data and apps etc but sdcard remains untouched. I cant say what a factory reset in bootloader does as i never tried.
EDIT: my comment relates to unlocking a relocked bootloader on an s-off device. So its possible the first time unlock or even a relock on an s-on device might wipe the sdcard contents.
Good luck - maybe other will have tips. if you go ahead and try unlocking bootloader there are loads of threads with instructions here. Just stop after you flashed the custom recovery and use it to mount usb and copy off your pics. Then try a reset from within bootloader or flash a new rom.
Just to chip in.....there are reports of wiped sdcards when unlocking the bootloader.
Just saying.......
Edit : it will delete ALL data including sdcard.

Good point edited post to that effect, I cant remember what happened on the first locked to unlocked on my first Hox (which was s-on) and my current s-off was already relocked when i bought it.
pjgt : If all other avenues fail and you were going to unlock bootloader and root\custom ROM anyway then there is a small chance but it doesnt sound likely. Id recommend buying and installing Cerberus or similar once your back up and running - it allows an sms to unlock device or change password. This 'may' have bypassed your problem.

My Phone no longer boots - completly my fault , can someone help please

Hello I really hope someone can help me.
My phone did the htc one x update (sense 5??) yesterday and i decided to wipe my phone to give it a fair chance to impress me.
as i was copying files over something got corrupt and i lost all my photos, i downloaded various apps to "undelete" but all needed root access.
I never wanted to root my phone but these photos are very important and can never be replaced now.
I used HTCDEV and unlocked the bootloder and the undelete apks still didnt work.
I followed instructions from some youtube video (i know .. like i say i know this is my fault) and then phone no longer boots
I can get into CWM etc and have installed 2 roms that i had downloaded from here and a nandbackup from here and still get same results - nothing
could someone please help me fix my phone (i have accepted i have now lost all my stuff)
thank you for your time and patience
larry.
Same boat, different quarters
looks like you and i have almost identical issues, perhaps the chap that helps you can help me as well.
htc one x, with rogers, with clockworkmod installed, nandroid backup already created.
so, my phone is rooted, has been for awhile. i attempted to install a version of cyanogen mod about half an hour ago using hte fastboot flash boot boot.img command.
it seemed to go fine
my phone can no longer boot past the htc screen. it appears to be trying to boot into recovery, but failing for some reason.
i tryed restoring my nandroid backup, no sd card detected. as anyone responding ot this will know, one x has no SD, but does have an internal SD partition. i couldn' even select my nandroid to restore it.
ive been searching for an HTC ruu to run without sucess, ruu's are only available for the US ATT model.
any help is welcome. thanks in advance.

Hey Larry, I m sorry for the loss of your data. Happened to me too once. Can you plz explain in detail what you actually did? I would like to help you to at least get the phone working. I m on my mobile now. As soon as I can get a PC, I'll try to help you as best I can.

You were on stock Sense 5 4.2.2. So you are on HBOOT 1.72. When you unlock the bootloader and root the phone, the process wipes everything on your phone and your SD storage. So that's why you lost all the photos and everything. But if you have that data backed up somewhere on cloud, you can get it back.
Now as far as the phone not booting, you have CWM and you can get into it. Do you have superuser installed?
As you are on HBOOT 1.72, not every ROM can be flashed into your device now. Plz check the ROM if it can be installed on your device.
If it can be, a boot.img has to be flashed and then the zip can be flashed via CWM.

You lost your data is due to the fact that you unlocked your bootloader for the very first time. There is a prompt saying that you will lose all your data and advice you to back it up. Which probably you didnt that is why this results.
