Does Titanium Backup Pro backup call logs and SMS messages? - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps

Hey there
I have Titanium Backup Pro and I want to perform a full system backup before I go ahead and install a custom ROM (Android Revolution HD). I just used the "Select All" feature and to be honest was too lazy to read through the whole list, so I was wondering if call logs and SMS messages are going to be backed up as well? I chose "Backup all system data + user apps". Or would I have to get a different application for that?
Thanks guys!

Yes they are stored also and you can restore them separately!

Go backup pro is the best, both call log + sms + system setting + mms + apps ...

Thanks for your replies. One more question, since when I restore it would seem to restore system applications as well (which are perhaps older than the current ones because I was running 4.1.2 while Android Revolution HD uses 4.2.1) are they going to replace the current system one or will they be ignored? I see most of them in red, does that mean they are left unaffected?

I use XML import / export for Call logs / SMS / Wifi Points .. You can find it in Titanium > Menu Key > Backup Data to XML under Special Backup / Restore .. These XML files can later be imported using Restore Data from XML under the same menu.

Thanks for your reply. I encountered a lot of restoring problems with Titanium Backup that I decided to reinstall the original firmware (unrooted and everything), then root, and attempt to use Titanium Backup to restore everything to its proper order again. If that doesn't work, I'm screwed!

Rule of thumb, if you're restoring from same base i.e., 4.1.x then it's OK to restore system apps as well but I've always limited to the green system apps for data only. If going from 4.1.x to 4.2.x then Never restore system apps. Also in like manner, some suggest you restore user apps only without data when changing roms with different bases. Sometimes old data can lead to FC.

[Q] [APP]Titanium Backup Free hangs when trying to restore a system app.

Hi,
I installed Titanium Backup Free version and tried to use it but it did not work.
I use Gingerbread XXJVS with Semaphore Kernel 1.7.0 (2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVS-CL565837) with Superuser 2.3.6.1 and busybox 1.16.2android minimal.
I made backups with batch processing and option "all apps+system data" (I translate from polish so just to let you know it is the 3rd option in backup section) and then uninstalled the backed up SocialHub 1.00.10102 system app.
When I try to restore it the popup message "Restoring app+data" appears and it does not go any further.
- It does not work neither with v4.4.0 nor the version prior to that (i updated in the meantime).
- It does not work with Superuser 3.0.
- Enabling /system as rw in Terminal Emulator did not help (i found this suggestion somewhere else)
- I cannot change the Settings-> Apps processing mode as suggested here by the author of TiB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=92719462&pp=25&page=2
"Try setting the Apps processing mode to "AUTO, Indirect" and enable USB debugging in your phone settings. "
It is grayed and marked as [PRO only]. I do have USB debugging on.
- Both Busybox and sqlite are internal from TiB. changing option to use system's busybox did not change anything.
Any suggestions how to solve that, please?
Hi,
Yes indeed, it appears you have tried pretty much everything already. This seems to happen on a few devices
If you reboot your device afterwards, does the system app appear as installed or not?
PS: you might want to contact the Titanium Track support directly, at support -=at=- titaniumtrack.com

I assume you tried the "AUTO, Indirect" mode already, right?
Is the app present after a reboot or not?
I've tried everything...
I'm using 2.3.5 JVS with cf-root...
After a reboot the "restored" app ISN'T present...

This might be a stupid question, but are you sure your phone is S-OFF ?

Hi again,
Nothing changes after reboot (see below, mind the Social Hub only).
When I go to titaniumtrack_com it redirects me to wordpress-based login page which requires login+pass. Shall I provide something for anonymous users there?

I haven't an HTC!
Hmm, this is strange indeed.
Yes, the Titanium Track web site is not ready yet, but you can send an e-mail to support -=at=- titaniumtrack.com
Ok I sent an e-mail there with info from this thread.
It might be worth to add a switchable logging/debug feature to the app to see where it gets stuck.
Today I tried to restore with fresh TiB 4.5.1 and new su 3.0.2 without and with /system as rw. Still nothing.
Has anyone from titaniumtrack.com received e-mail?
My titanium backup pro hangs the same way when trying to restore the motoblur Homescreen app ... droid 3
no idea how the app was removed in the first place when i simply just froze it -.-
TiB 4.5.2 + su 3.0.4 still nothing
The same with latest TB Pro in my Samsung Galaxy S I9000.
Damn, why did I buy this app! I can't restore my backups now!
I contacted the developer the day I made the previous post and he haven't replied yet.
What an awesome support!
I wrote him a week ago and got response. They test it on sgs2. Which rom and kernel do you use?
I want to flash newer if that is worth it but first I want to ensure TiB works properly.
I've the same issue on a Samsung/Droid Charge. Just got this from TiB support:
We're sorry, system apps are critical and should not be removed in the first place. Some apps are tightly ROM bounded, while others are dependent on other system entities which could break things when they are removed. We have already provided the warning in the preferences that you will be held responsible of your own actions upon removing the system apps and we will not provide support for restoring them back. In most cases like this, you will have to reflash your ROM or restore your nandroid backup (you must always keep a nandroid handy).

FWIW I emailed them earlier today, so they did reply to the email fairly quickly.
Great answer.. Should never had bought the pro license. That's a really lame excuse because I used it on other phones and never had any of those problems with system apps.

this happens to me intermittently whether its a system app or not. using 5.5.1.1, and i did change ROMs
is it a bad back up or system app?

[Q] First Kies Backup on My New Sprint Galaxy S3 Contains 7778 'Other Items'

What's going on with this backup? Many of my apps from my other Android devices (HTC EVO 4G, ASUS Transformer 101, Kindle Fire) automatically installed when I logged into my Google account. I've also uploaded ~350 JPG's. But where did all of these 'Other Misc. Content' 7778 items come from? The backup via USB has dragged on for over an hour now with 2500 items to go. Kies provided no warning of the time the backup might require, gives no indication of how much longer it's going to take, and just cautions me not to disconnect my phone.
This is why I don't backup or restore with Kies. It takes forever and you get all kinds of stuff you probably don't want. I don't check the box to have Google back up my phone when I flash a new Rom either. I like to install everything fresh, especially with a new phone.

I understand...Kies backup sucks. I've since rooted the Sprint Galaxy S3 and am using Titanium Pro. Thanks for the reply.
You bet. Can't go wrong with Titanium Backup. I have system apps backed up from a couple dozen leaked ICS roms on my E4GT. If I flash a new Rom and something is missing that I want such as the ICS Calendar, I can restore it with TB.

do you have a copy of the asop clock anywhere? I can't figure out how to set the default alarm sound in the touchwiz one....
Sent from my SPH-L710
Not sure what clock you are talking about but I have a desk clock that's pretty cool. Are you familiar with the 7zip application for Windows? I think their is a Mac version, too and you can download it free. You can use it to extract apks from roms and then either add them to another Rom before you flash it or copy it to your pc then move to your phone. If you want an app from a Rom, download the Rom. Open 7zip and on the left corner of the app navigate to the Rom. Once the Rom is open, click on system>app and you'll see all the apps in the Rom. (There's a few in Data>app too.) Right click the apk you want and select copy, paste it somewhere on your computer, then add it to your phone. If you want to add an app to a Rom, open system app with 7 zip and drag and drop the apks you want into the folder. Exit 7zip by clicking the up button in the upper left of the program. I'll pm you the desk clock. If you install it, you'll get a clock widget that looks like this

[Q] What's the best way to backup/restore widgets, settings, etc when switching ROMs?

What's the best way to backup/restore widgets, settings, preferences etc when switching ROMs?
I've been using ADB command line backup/restore for apps and data, but it doesn't restore widgets, widget settings, etc.
If you use nova launcher it allows you to save your setup and will allow you to restore widgets and will automatically restore apps and folders.

ADB's backup will backup user data the same way titanium backup will.
Although I'm not sure if ADB will skip a restore if the Rom already includes the app in /system/ or not.
Widgets/widget settings can be restored...kinda' with Nova launcher.
Settings>Backup
Then Settings>backup>restore
It restores Gmusic...APW widgets...G+ for me.
But a couple of them restore with blank images that you click and it brings up a widget selector with the correct widget already selected so that it's easier to restore.
Not sure about Apex. Haven't tried it in quite some time.
Edit:
Ninja'd...kinda.
So, since I'm on the stock launcher, there's no way at present to do this?
Is Nova launcher stable?

Not that I'm aware of no. You can look in its settings and see if anything like backup is an option. Otherwise yes, nova launcher is rock solid. Use it on all my ICS+ devices.

You can backup your stock launcher along with its data via titanium backup. Your settings if there are any along with all of your app icons will be backed up. The only thing that sucks is that widgets are not backed up so you will have to replace them manually upon restoring your stock launcher. Just keep in mind you do not want to restore a stock ICS launcher onto the JB platform...they are totally different launchers. If you do so your phone will blow up.
Here is a screenshot of the stock launcher you will be backing up in titanium. Good luck.

I was trying to figure out a way to restore all my apps, app data, widgets, widget data after wiping and flashing a new rom.
So, this method seems to work okay:
Do ADB backup
Do Nova Launcher backup (as detailed in one of the posts above)
Wipe phone and install new rom
Do not log into your Google account, skip all that when turning phone back on.
Do ADB restore
Do Nova Launcher restore
Add your google account to sync
It's not perfect, but it does save a lot of work.

Hi,
Why add Google account at the very end? Why not in the first place?
Because then Android starts downloading all apps from Play Store (which is slower than restore from backup)?

Cyanogenmod titanium settings question

Can anyone tell me the file to look for in Titanium Backup to restore all
my screen layouts/widgets/apps? It was easy to find on my old Evo, think
it was called Desktop or something. I see nothing that looks like that in
my Titanium backup of Cyanogenmod?

are you referring to a batch restore of system files and apps as well as app data?
If this is the case open Titanium Backup:
Click the Check-mark at top right,
go to restore missing apps + system Data and click run.
Check off all the apps and system files you want to restore or just restore all and click the top right corner again and wait!
(I would suggest that you only restore system data from previous version of same ROM)
No, I just want to know the name of the file to restore that saves
my 5 screens layouts. The file that restores all your desktop widgets and
apps so you don't have to move every single one, one by one. All my apps
are restored, but all of the screens are blank-no shortcuts for apps there at all.

If you're using a custom launcher, it will just be the name of that launcher (e.g. Nova, Apex, etc). If not, the default one built into CM10 (or CM9, for that matter) is called Trebuchet (version 0.2 as of the 8/15 build). Make sure to do app+data, and then when you restore later restore app+data as well (and as a system app, so widgets work properly).

There is no way to know when you are charged, in CM10 8/15

Yeah, I don't believe CM10 can do that yet. It can do LED notifications for everything else, in a very customized way (System Settings > Display > Notification Light), but that won't do charging or fully charged stuff from what I see.
I have not used it much myself, but a lot of people swear by Light Flow LED Control (free version market link), it can handle most any customization you want, including charging-related ones. They recently updated for the GS3 from what it looks like, too.

Restore a nandroid backup of the custom roms..
As far as homescreens are concerned, use nova/apex launcher which saves the homescreen prefs..
For apps, use titanium backup!

App backup isn't really the problem [Though I do hate using apps like Titanium backup, simply cause if I download from them and not from the Play Store, I don't get auto updates], what concerns me more is home screens, which is tiring to do everytime
I really hate using Launchers, especially those 2 which take away the Sense look ... isn't there another way?
Use titamium to backup the htc sense app data. Should work if you remain on same sense ver.

Restore it after you have installed all your apps of course. I just tested on my rom. Backed up, deleted stuff from home screens then restored data only in titanium and home screens were back.
Be aware its best to start from scratch though as restoring across different roms may cause probs. You can always clear sense app data though if it goes wrong

Titanium backup helps not only with sense -> sense rom.
You can save your wi-fi access points, wallpaper, contacts storage, people and complete programs when migrating to other rom.
Contacts and list of programs are stored in your gmail account, so theres only ringtones missing.
Now days wifi settings are also stored in your Google Cloud if you have enabled Backup in Settings > Privacy
But there are alternatives:
App called Helium - App Sync and Backup
And I used a adb script to pull the home-screen before changing ROM and push it after all apps were restored.
