Do any of you here use an extended battery for your note 2? If you do can you tell me what might be some reliable ones and some inexpensive and what the differences might be, thanks

I am currently using the anker extended battery. I only paid $16 dollars for it. I also have the hyperion extended battery (roughly the same price), but the anker battery actually performed much better imo. Some are satisfied with the hyperion, some (myself included) swear by the Anker, a few prefer the more expensive Mugen, and another group is waiting for a huge 9300(?) Mah battery called the ZeroLemon.
If you do a search, you will find numerous threads on each then you can decide which one will suit you!

I carry an anker astro 10000mah external battery charger cuz I want to keep the slimness of the note 2. I can easily go about 4-5 days before needing to charge either my note 2 or portable charger.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
the question really is do you want to use external or an internal. I just carry a few external batteries and charges. I have Anker Aster 3 10,000mha, a Duracell PowerSource 100 which is around 4000 or 5000mha (it's also a 100W inverter), a couple Durcell Powersource USB battery packs that around 3600mha (they're the size of about 4 AA batteries).
Most internal batteries extended batteries are going to make your phone more thick, and may not have NFC, since the GN2 has it on the battery door, not the batter like the GSIII. Heck, there is a one coming out call ZeroLemon, which hasn't been released yet, that is going to be 9300mha. It's going to double the thickness of the phone. It doesn't have NFC. There's a thread on it.
Depending on how you use your GN2, an external battery may be fine. I find all the external are more than sufficient to fill my needs. Then again, I'm usually need some wall socket or PC, so it's not an issue to keep a charge.
I recieved my anker battery from amazon today and I must say this B***H is big!! But it works

I modified my Otterbox defender to fit my extended battery and my nfc works fine because I'm still using the oem Samsung back that came with the phone. Its the only case I have and don't feel like changing cases either! Lol. I don't have time to change batteries and don't feel like carrying anything else "extra". My phone doesn't look "pregnant" and you can barely see the small hump from the mod. I'm happy with it just like others are happy with their preferences.

+1000. More power (haha) to the folks rocking an external battery, but I don't need a fat battery making my GN2 more massive than it already is.
The need of fat battery is based on how one used their phone. I can blow a fully charged OEM in hours. This is when I'm watching video, MHL and WiFiTether. I can drain it completely in about three to four hours. The screen, like other phones, is still biggest battery drain.

Well obviously it depends on how you use the device. If you have the screen on while tethering for 3 hours straight, you will probably drain the battery faster than it can be recharged. That happened on my HTC Thunderbolt -- if I used navigation, the battery would drain faster than it could recharge via the car charger.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I know it's seems kind of obvious, but some people seem to overlook how others may use their GN2, and thus the need for a fat battery when they're getting full day on the OEM.
The MHL seems to be worse culprit. In my experience, I can WiFi tether and watch Netflix on the GN2, and recharge the phone; it's slower, but the battery will build a charge. The MHL, or at least the adapter I've been using, seems to be a power hog. It could be output on the microUSB on the adapter is at a low rating, more than a power hog. End result would still be the same in regards to charging nonetheless.
I haven't had that issue with the GN2 and a my car charger. Then again, my car charger is a 2.0A like the OEM wall charger for the GN2.
To me, the problem is fat batteries is not finding function, but more usable accessories. The GN2 is popular, but nothing like the GS3. And thus choices are more limited to begin with. Add in a fat battery which is even less popular, then it's even harder to find cases, docks, and so forth that can fit the phone with the battery. You're practically stuck with whatever the battery maker creates. This is not including the DYI mods some are able to do.

I picked this charger from Thailand for 1000 Thai Bhat just last weekend.
Can charge the note from 45-60% from 1%.
Feedback:-
Not heavy
Sits like an added cover
Charging takes close to 4-6hrs.(Will confirm after few uses)
Charging is mildly slower compared to USB charging from a laptop or your wall charger.
Great for travelling and can fit into your pocket along with the Note.
I confirm everything. Can add that it charged my note from 50 to 100 as well.

The similar power packs I've seen for other phones name them so that the power is the total mAh you have with it attached.
ie. The Note has a 2500mAh internal battery, this pack has a 1000 mAh capacity, so in total your phone now has 3500 mAh of power.
Maybe this one is different, but judging from the size I'd guess 1000 mAh is about right.

Yeah, I dont either understand why people buy cheap crap batteries etc to their ~500€/$ phone. Like if you have the money to buy this phone you should have money to buy decent replacement batteries if you need them. But it is everyone's own decision if they want to risk burning their phone and in worst case scenario exploding the phone in their pockets. At least I wouldn't dare to risk my phone or my own health with cheap batteries. Peace!
tried a similar pack but with "4200mah". fully drains after recharging the note from 10% to 90% plus. and it takes forever to charge since input only allows 0.5A.

i was considering buying this 4200 power pack but i think i ll just get instead an extra 2700mah battery.
I have bought powerbank with 5600mAh it takes little longer when charging cause output just 1A :silly: but it can fully charged my note for two times
It does really 1000mah inside? And also for other brand with 3500? Because im thinking of buying either 3500 power bank or 5400 extended battery.

I always use the supplied wall charger that comes with these so Idk, lots of the extended battery reviews on here are the same voltage & they seem to be doing pretty good.
It's not the charger which matters but the phone itself which charges the battery, it's aiming for 4.3V as that's what it thinks it should have as the stock battery is designed for that. Although I haven't heard a single case of these 4.2V batteries having problems with being charged with 4.3V, that last part can be changed in the kernel and the charger chip driver. I'm getting some knock-off cheap battery myself so I'll see how it goes. This particular one seems quite steep in price @ $30, with proven ones like the PolarCell 2400mAh going out for half the cost.
you won't see the affect right away from overcharging. I use to play with a lot of batteries from RC, overcharging something we use to do get slight edge and boost at start. but it does have long term damage to batteries, specially lithium based. some cheaper batteries even catch fire.
Alright guys, got the batteries in the mail today, charging one & will report back later

Li-ion batteries have an overcharge protection circuit built into the battery pack itself and should prevent this from happening. If everything is working as intended, it should be impossible for the phone to overcharge a battery. That's not to say the protection circuit couldn't fail itself.
And I too played with RC batteries and you really can't compare those batteries with these. Different types of battery with different methods of charging.

I can generally browse for "a few" hours on 4G without needing to plug in. I don't pay much attention to specifics as unlike the Note 1, the Note 2 isn't very limiting for me. The Note 1 was awful for needing a micro-reactor in your pocket almost. Do you keep your battery over 90% charge often? It's possible it's getting weaker as it gets older. You can order a replacement battery cheap enough and see. They also usually come with an external charger so you could just swap batteries and go. I do that on long road trips.

It depends on many different factors not just screen on and 4g on. 1% per 3 minutes equates to 300 minutes or 5 hours. I have drained my battery completely in 4 +/- hours time. It's completely normal as I have other phones to compare it with. I have another note 2, 2 galaxy s3, iPhone 4s,5s that I have tested against and they provide worse battery life in same situation.
Not all these phones are mine. I just swap it with family/friend members to test out for a day or two.
For batteries I recommend Anker. I have 2 Ankers for my note 2 and 3 Ankers for my galaxy s3.

Since I use my N2 as my laptop replacement and am on it all day, battery life was a problem for me from the beginning. I found Battery Drain Analyzer helpful. I kept it running for a couple of months and was able to determine which apps consume the most power (widgets, by far). But, after having spent hours trying different underclocking configurations without much success as far as saving a lot of power, I ended up buying three extra OEM batteries. It's really awesome to not have to worry about it. I just keep them in my pocket and swap them out as needed. It's not a very technologically advanced solution, but, it sure is effective. I also picked up this, and, obviously, now, I am never without power. Also, I use this Charger for the spares. It takes a long time to charge the batteries, but charges them fully to 100%, whereas, charging the battery in the phone doesn't seem to work as well.

Think that was the original case they reviewed? They changed it a little bit (better fit) before the release a week or two ago. They are also coming out with a rugged case in about a month.
I recently updated my phone to the GB27 rom (stock rooted) using one-click. Most of the time when it is connected to wifi the phone is fine. When it is not connected it seems like the signal (for cell reception) goes off and the phone freezes and then shuts itself off. It will go from 4 or so bars to the circle with the line through it, and then turn itself off. I have no idea what's going on. I tried using one-click to go back to other roms but it seems like it it still happening. Any idea on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I think you may be right. Just looked and the bottom half of the battery is definitely swollen. The phone has also been draining battery life lately so this may be the cause. Do you know if it got this way due to the way im using/charging it? Or does it just happen? I've had the phone for around a year and a couple of months.

Battery's for the d710 are slightly weaker than most batteries, so time and heat are the 2 biggest factors in battery life. I've seen a fair amount of them fail between 10 and 16 months. If you look for a 3rd party replacement anker is the way to go. If you get a cpl of anker batteries you can contact samsung and they'll have you send in your old bloated battery and they'll send you back a brand new OEM so you'll end up with 2 or 3 batteries depending on if you buy the anker single or 2 pack of replacements.

Yeah your battery is toast, replacement will fix it. Once you get your anker batteries you can contact samsung support and they'll send you a packing slip to mail them your bloated one and they'll send you a new one free. If you bought 2 ankers then you'll end up with 3 batteries or if you bought a single anker you'll have 2. Buying the 2 ankers for less than $20 shipped plus getting a free one from Samsung works out nice since you end up with 3 batteries for less than $20. The ankers will be a tight fit fyi, they're slightly thicker and have 150mah more capacity than stock, 1950 vs 1800. They also have a full 18mo warranty on them.

I'm OK with a tight fit. Lol. But I'll def contact Samsung. Thanks

Yeah when you first put em in the side opposite the contacts will poke up a little bit and you'll have to cram the back on. After a few times they fit better I guess the heat helps them settle in and adjust to the space so they don't poke out as much anymore. So far every anker I've used across multiple devices have been the same way and all tested 150mah higher than labeled. ET4G was labeled 1800 and tested 1950, SIII was labeled 2100 and tested 2250, Note II was 3100 and tested 3250, and the og evo was 1500 and tested 1750 (this one was 250 higher than labeled).

It sounds like the exact same problem I was having. I just got my new battery today (anker) and the phone is working perfectly now. I compared the new battery to my old one and it was definitely around the middle. Hopefully this will help you as well.
I've gone through a number of batteries and long story short, they've all sucked. Even the original stock battery was crap. I've been using this battery for almost 4 weeks and I've been getting absolutely stellar battery life. I'm well beyond that initial conditioning phase.

2450mah. I'm usually skeptical of higher mah ratings as you can only cram so much juice into a given form factor, but I'm left wondering if lion chemistry has really improved this much. Ever so slightly thicker than a standard stock battery (same size as the 2100mah andida if anyone else had one), but fits the stock battery back w/ a bit of manipulation. E4GT is stock GB27 (w/ root). I'll get more screenshots now that I'm really paying attention to performance.
I'm getting consistent 4hours+ of screen on time while actively using the phone. 2 google accounts, sync enabled, no kernel tricks, 'auto' screen brightness (not lowest), haven't even disabled useless apps, etc.
Sample size will soon be 2; i've ordered a 2nd battery for my wife's phone so I'll compare once it gets here.
tldr: 4+, could probably eek out 5 hours of active screen on phone use w/ a standard size (non-ugly hump) battery.
Nice I can barely get 1 hour of battery life from mine.

How's the battery holding up now about 6-7 weeks since you got it? Still really good battery life? When you do about 4-5 hours of screen time how many hours of battery life are you getting? Also what rom are you on? And how does your wife's battery that you ordered compare? Sorry for the 21 questions, but thanks

I'm wondering this too.
im also wondering if this is legit...not a bad investment for $7 but it wouldnt even be here for another month. I just got an epic 4g for $50 and am super satisfied with it (coming from the beast Note 2)...I'm actually surprised with its performance all around EXCEPT for the battery life. I do realize the battery and phone are close to 2 years old which is why im looking into a new battery.....
but really, selling my note 2 for 400 and picking this up for 50 is prob the best investment I ever made, saving my upgrade for "the next next big thing" :good:

I'm curious as well.. OP please deliver!!
I bought 2 of these for $10 about 2 weeks ago and so far so good. With 4g, bluetooth, and gps on all day, I get about 14 hrs (with 3.5-4hrs screen time) and still have about 15% before putting it to charge. Great deal

So you been using it for 2 weeks? Is it really a stock sized battery - will fit with otterbox? Think I might get it... 4 hours screen time is excellent
I'm on Calks EL29, so not a JB rom, but yes 2 weeks. Its a little tight, so I took the label wrap off to save some thickness.

Is it able to fit inside the phone without having to buy a replacement back?
Yes, you still use the same stock back the phone came with, its just tighter.
The only question in my mind is longevity, as I have purchased some knockoff batteries (sold as Samsung OEM with almost identical labeling as the original battery), that started to degrade within a month and now are useless except for short term emergencies.
Most people on these forums swear by Anker batteries, which I've never tried, but I still have Ferocity Mobile batteries (bought on ebay but no longer sold) which are still going strong. They just dont hold a candle to these 2450s,so they are my backup batteries now (have two Epic Touch phones in the family).
I will report back periodically on how they are performing over time.

Would you or OP be able to do a test on those 2450 batteries that OP has? Do you have the same type of battery as OP? If so could you please run a streaming netflix 3g test on it and see how long it runs till it drains from 100 to zero. I'm a HEAVY user on my phone and that would be the closest way to gauge it to my usage even though i don't stream video all day lol. Thank you
Yes, same battery as the OP.
Link the test and I'll try it.

Well there's really no test link. I meant if you could just drain it under heavy usage and post a picture of the Battery usage and then the screen on time. Thanks
I'm not a Netflix guy.
Bottom line: Its cheap and gets to you fairly quick considering China, so why not take a shot if you need a battery?

You're right and it does fit in the original battery cover which is awesome. For the conditioning what did you do? Did you do a full discharge then recharge 6 times?
Bought two

Figured it was worth a shot since it is so cheap.Any recommendations for methods or software to calibrate? Just charge/discharge cycles as listed above or something else?

Callibratimg doesn't do anything useful. It doesn't hurt either but it is pointless.

How about calibrating a bigger battery? I have the QCell 4100 and I was told to calibrate it everytime I pull it off the charger at 100%.

Callibratimg does nothing for the battery. It clears the battery stats. That's it. A reboot does the same thing.
