how do you figure out what files are taking up unnecessary space in "other" category?
Install the Disk Usage app. It's what I use to figure out what piggy game+dldata to uninstall first when I'm running low on my 16GB internal. Wish more could be moved to my 64G external, but, ah well.
how do you go in more depth? for example. it says 6gb is from my media, i click it and it wont show me individually
Pinch to zoom.

I have installed ARHD 20.1 2 days back.
When I connect the phone to my laptop, I see free space in phone as only 957Mb out of total 10.4Gb. In ES-Explorer under /emulated/0, when I select all files and folders and check the properties, total size is shown around 1.65Gb. In an app called "DiskUsage" I see a huge "Systemdata" eating away 8115MiBGb!! What is this? I am unable to see inside this.
Under Settings -> storage, there is a Miscellaneous Files 6.87Gb but when I click on it there are only few files.

When I look at the storage it makes me wonder if it's normal that emulated is twice sdcard0. I really don't know about storage management in android and it made me wonder through the past. So this really dumb question probably. It has to be like that or do I have duplicate content ?

Depending on the apps used they can install or use internal ram, as it is an internal duplicate for compatibility.
I cant do anything on my phone because my storage is full, i have tried all apps to find what is taking up so much space but without a root it wont be possible to view it.
This is what the storage looks like:

}
I'm on LineageOS 19.1 on a new device.
On my old device i managed to change the the default folder from the storage app from downloads to internal storage.

See the downloads folder is what is selected as default folder when the storage app is opened, how do i change it to "unknown" which in this case is the name of my device?
There should be an options in settings but i just can't find it right now.
Anyone?
