[Q] How to make a flashable CWM build.prop? No other chance. - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hi guys,
after trying some "supposed" tweaks into the build.prop I got stucked into an endless bootloop.
I don't know for what reason but ADB (properly configured) does not show any device connected to the PC so I can't use the commands adb pull and adb push. (I connected the phone to the pc while turned off, through fastboot vol+)
BUT, for some strange reason (strange because it is supposed to work with ADB, right?) I was able to flash -fastboot- a kernel (advanced stock kernel) that had a CWM recovery built in...so this is my only chance I guess.
I tried also to make a backup from CWM, to move this backup on my desktop -> I opened it with .7zip and replaced manually the build.prop tweaked with the previously backup'ed one, into the file "system.ext4.tar".
I moved again the whole backup to my phone (mounted sdcard ecc.) but when I tried to restore, CWM said "MD5 sums mismatching"
So I guess I have this one last chance...
I have the backup of the stock build.prop file and I would like to make a flashable cwm .zip from it, to replace the one that it's causing the bootloop.
How can I make it?
I tried following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721680
But anything happened.
I have added the stock file named "build.prop" into the "system folder" of the sample cwm.zip but the situation is always the same... bootloop!
Help me please, I have things on the phone that I can't loose for any reason.

Just flash the attached zip. It has the stock build.prop and fixes all the necessary permissions correctly.

If I change just the build.prop to the one I need for my phone (htc one s), it will work right? I happened to mess up as well and just need something as a back up...

I didn't get you.. but the safest would be take a cwm backup before replacing the build.prop. In case something goes wrong then you always just boot into cwm and restore the backup.

Or another question, in a TWRP backup, is the build.prop located in Android secure? I just need to know what to flash if I accidentally mess up build.prop

Hi,
Please don't use Emma as your bootloader is locked. Search for SUS [Sony Update Service] and use it to re-install the phone's software. That will fix it

Cant believe im just seeing this. Been looking for this for so long.
Good to go thru d help section on a regular.

Taking backup of all partitions is recommended via TWRP. User data (music, photos, videos) don't get backed up via TWRP. If You want to just backup build.prop , You could save it from /system/build.prop or take backup of system partition.

Same Song.. Several Verses Later
I would really like to find out if any of you figured this out??
I find myself in the same position as I'm finding that many have on here as well. I found this thread interesting because it is dealing with the Sprint Galaxy in particular. I have hosed the radio and the baseband on the Galaxy - likely the EFS parition, not sure.. at this point. It needs to be made very clear to everyone that even has a thought of flashing with this phone to make triplicate backups of the EFS partition before they turn the phone on (exxageration for affect).
That being said - I don't think that gets the rest of us anywhere. I'm a OG owner and a Bionic owner - and the first 72 hours of Samsung ownership has felt like non-stop triage to me..
I have this here.. but this really isn't the specific image for the Sprint the phones...
The link below points to a post for the IMM761 GSM+HSPA - which I believe these phones to be identical.. and since Sprint had locked code for the CDMA versions - is this one the same - in other words, is there an image out there that can be downloaded, flashed, and from there we can we can either fix the EFS and restore IMEI folder and baseband function or at least call warranty?
At this point - I can't reset the counter on the phone, I can't take it to the store (as if the 7 iployees would know what I was talking about) and I'm not about to pay $800 to learn that the EFS partition is the "short" in the term "got you by the short hairs"..
androidforums -
Heat57 says:"
It sounds as so you are on the GSM "maguro" device. In that case I suggest you download the complete ICS 4.0.4 factory image from Google at ... file. Beware! if you have a Windows PC the original download with a .tgz extension will be renamed by Windows automatically to a .tar file, which means that you'll have problems extracting it. In that case simply rename the file by changing the extension to .tgz and all will be well. Note: you'll need the Galaxy Nexus bootloader unlocked in order to flash a factory image and at the end of the procedure you can leave it unlocked and flash a Superuser file to root, if so desired. You'll need the Android SDK installed on your PC and then copy the bootloader, radio and image .img files to your ...android-sdk\platform tools-tools folder and run the adb commands in the windows command shell (note: you must flash each image in this order and wait until each image is flashed completely >bootloader >radio > image). Finally, flash the "image-soju-imm76d.zip" through your cwm recovery. You should end up with a healthy Galaxy Nexus on ICS 4.0.4 and everything working"

[Q] Supercharge went wrong

Hallo, yesterday i supercharged my phone xperia arc with latest ICS update .587,
i used v6 supercharger (V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-Update 11)
i had busy box v1.8.4, while supercharging it asked me about services.jar and services.odex, and it said to me that i had an old one (cause i did supercharged my phone when it was on .487 too) and i pressed to use the old services ... when the supercharge ended and my phone restarted it took like 10 minutes and i saw it was keep restarting and restarting, i re-entered my battery near 30 times and re - opened it but still the same, i tried to hard reset, with all the ways i could and nothing happened, and now my phone doesnt open at all, only restarts and restarts..
Any idea how i can fix this?
Every single tut starts with "make nandroid backup"... but, maybe try to prepare zip for cwm with services.jar and odex from stock 587 and flash. It isn't hard

Phone Not booting after build.prop changed

I have Samsung Galaxy s3 ATT rooted - clockworld mod v-6.0.1.2. I was trying to install google wallet.

Thanks I did try it. I am getting another issue. When I try the "adb shell" command as pointed by thread above - it throws a error - device not found. I have installed my drivers multiple times - but does not seem to be helping. when I connect the phone to the laptop - it is in clockworld recovery mode with the initial set of options.
That sounds all correct. Go back into the SDK manager and under extras there are a few drivers. Check and install those. Try it again.
If that doesn't work, I'll send you the necessary drivers as soon as I get a chance.

As a bonus, AT&T had a RMA and were ready to exchange it for a new phone, which I am declining now.
Ah, I'm sorry to hear that you had to use ODIN and wipe all your data. I solved your driver problem. I apologize about the length of time it took. If you ever need to fix the build.prop again, I've updated my OP to include the driver section. Happy modding!

got a major problem
Hi guys I have yet another crazy issue I am faced with
My Samsung galaxy tab p3110 model has just got the black screen of death after having replaced build.Prop file however I did create a backup of the build. Prop file only its inside the root folder of the tablet at stake. I only seem to have access to Odin mode and I need a way of moving the original built.Prop file back in its place. Does anyone here have any ideas of how I may go about doing this without risking screwing up my tablet further
Any help is greatly appreciated

You're in the i747/i747m Galaxy S3 forum, so use anything you find here with care. You might want to consult the Galaxy Tab forum for more device specific advice; however, fixing a build.prop brick should be a pretty generic procedure for an android device.
Here is a guide for fixing build.prop errors using adb. You'll probably have to track down different drivers than the ones linked to that thread for your device unless they happen to be generic Samsung drivers. Here's a minimal adb installer so you don't have to mess with the whole Android SDK, just to use one tiny tool
If you have a custom recovery or wouldn't mind using Odin to install one (again, consult your device's forum for specific issues - this may or may not be safe depending on your bootloader), you could just use the file tools built into TWRP or Aroma file manager to replace your modified build.prop with your backup. Be sure to set permissions to 644 after moving the file or you might still be bricked. This might be easier than getting adb working or it might not, depends on your comfort level with Odin and how tricky your device is to mod safely. I see custom ROMs in the Galaxy Tab forum, so it definitely can be done.
Slightly confused
Thanks for your quick response
However I am still a bit confused. Does flashing TWRP recovery through odin mean that all the data and apps currently installed on the tablet will be wiped

Your data and apps will not be affected by flashing TWRP; that Odin package will just be a recovery, not a full firmware update like they are a lot of the time. It will just replace your stock recovery with a custom recovery that has more functionality.
TWRP basically gives you a mini operating system on your phone for creating backups or flashing ROMs. TWRP also has some file tools in its Advanced tab you could use to copy your build.prop backup to /system and set the permissions, so you should be able to use it to fix your soft brick. It is independent of your ROM, so it will unaffected by your main system's build.prop error. There should be a hardware key combo you hold with the tablet off to boot into recovery. A lot of the time its vol up + power (i747 has a physical home button and recovery boot is vol up + home + power).
Thanks

BTW is there a default recovery partition that your supposed to be able to access because when I press and hold "power + volume up" the tab just restarts and shows the Samsung logo over and over again. Also I could swear that I did install TWRP at the time when I rooted but there is no sign of it.

[E988]Booting to CWM only

I need help! I own an LG OGP E988 India based. I had rooted it and installed cwm on it. I have used the cwm and it works. Like a fool, i had got a notification that I have an update, which i downloaded and tried to install. But as i had cwm, it didnt work. And now it only boots to CWM.
Tried methods to repair:
1. Restore backup from CWM - didn't work. No files copy to /system checked using AROMA file manager in CWM
2. Flashed another ROM (eg. VANIR) - didn't work. Same files not copied to /system it only shows an empty bin folder.
3. Download .kdz for E988 but the support tool stops with an error saying battery not fully charged. I have charged it for the whole day.
4. Tried Factory reset by holding vol down+ power. didnt work
5. Thought of trying to use TOT and DLL file, found DLL for E988 but not TOT file.
Please help me to repair my phone without sending it to LG.

If phone can enter download mode the LG Tool will help you. But before you do that switch off phone and pull out battery and re-insert the battery and connect to charger without switching on the device and try LG Tool. If this fails u can flash TWRP hacked recovery from madmack. I'll give you the link if u need. U can flash Vanir ROM without any problems using that recovery.

You mean, that madmack's recovery would work on my E988? i thought it was only for E980
And I have tried every method to get past that battery problem, nothing seems to be working. The LG tool gets stuck at an error saying that there is a battery isn't enough and closes down.

Yeah! Flash this link: http://d-h.st/HNa Link credits: @ballshanglow
First time the touch in recovery wont work so u have to force switch off by removing the battery. Enter recovery using 3 button combo: Vol up+home+power to boot into recovery back. Touch works second time and i recommend u to flash Vanir ROM and also flash E988 baseband if u don't get the network signal after booting up the ROM.
Good luck :good:

I have got this recovery working but the problem is that my phone isn't booting into system. The system seems to be empty. I don't understand what is happening. But if anyone can provide me with TOT file for e988 i would be extermely happy.

Ok here is what i found. When I flash the vanir ROM, the files are being copied to system, after that i find all files to be there in system but when i reboot to system using recovery, it boots back into recovery and system is empty with just one empty folder call bin.

Did you wipe everything? data, dalvik, cache, system and internal storage? put the zip in external and wipe everything else. If its not helping then it may be bootloader related issue.
And u used freegee to bypass bootloader before right!??

Hi.
I have the exact same problem but for F240L version.
Did you find a solution ?
- I tried to use flash tool : battery problem...
- I tried to flash another custom rom : still booting in CWM after a successfull installation
- I have my backup files from Freegee ".img" (I uploaded them on dropbox within the app!) but i don't really know what to do with them...

Solution to this for me was somehow flash anything stupid such that phone doesn't boot and I gave it to LG and within 5 mins they flashed new firmware. I did it under warranty.
Solution to this for you is find the TOT and DLL file for your phone model (I think its available). Then use google how to flash TOT file. If not, PM me right now exams going on so can't exactly help with links. Give me two days and ill help you step by step with the solution.

In order to install cwm at the first time i used freegee app. There was a function to backup some files (recovery files i think) to dropbox. Well the 5 files i have pushed with shell help were these files. I can upload them but i think it's unique for each phone.
For the information, after this fix, the custom rom works correctly, but my phone is still rooted and i still can't use lg flashtool (same "low battery" problem).
... but i can use my phone

I have bought a OnePlus One, hence never visited G Pro threads.
I found out that there might not be a solution until we get the TOT file for the LGE988 firmware.
But this is the solution i followed:
1. Took a recovery.zip and replaced the recovery.img file with a text file renamed 'recovery.zip'. What this did was, make a fake recovery.zip which will surely NOT work.
2. I flashed this zip. Now this makes my recovery invalid and my recovery never loads and only thing which boots is fastboot.
3. I now took the phone to LG Service centre and asked them to reflash the software which they in-hesitantly did. They did ask me if I rooted my phone, I said "What is that? Never heard of it". I explained him that while the update was going on, this problem occurred.
4. Phone is as good as new. Never will I make the same mistake so shifted from to a CUSTOM ROM.
Cons:
Lost all data on Phone Memory. I had a backup before.

u have to do flashing to load lg bootloader and with that bootloader installed u cant use cmw or modified rom. after alot of search, i have not found a way to boot into stock recovery once cmw is installed. u can instal rom mananger from playstore if ur phone is rooted than make a back up of ur rom on sd card plus all cmw recoveries provide backup but i found twrp recovery much better as it provide better ui and more functionality

Thanks I will try the Rom Manager to see if it can backup the original bootloader and the recovery to flash it later instead of flashing the whole kdz and setup everything again

I tried the rom manager but it can't extract the default recovery. However what I get now by searching for many hours that what I want is dumping the stock recovery and stock bootloader and combining into single .img file i.e bootl.img and recovery.img that I able to push back furing the normal running to get the stock recovery back and the bootloader without the ICE Engineer version showing after I flash the custom rom
twrp have the better ui but the one I found for 6200 have some problems I not remember but it had some issue mounting the system for wipe I think so I use the CMW instead both are good and perform the required function I suppose

yes able to extract the stock recovery and flashed it back was working fine for me however flashing the stock bootloader gives the secure boot error as it is not signed and LG have the signing key so only stock recovery can be flash back for now, untilll someone have the signed bootloader
including the recovery I extracted in the first post
