I wanted to let anyone looking for a micro sd about a deal i found. I found a Patriot Memory 16gb micro sdhc class 10 for $39.99 on www.CompUSA.com I think i'm going to order one after reading here on xda that patriot makes a pretty reliable sd card. I haven't ever used a patriot memory product so i only know what guys on here have posted. anyone make sure you check into the company on your own. They have the wintec 32 gb class 10 for $84.99 too!
apparently class10 cards are no good for phones, take a look at this link
yeah you dont want to spend all the money on something that might not work right?
I had read here on xda that the class of the sd card doesn't matter but the size(gb) is what matters with phones. like my SE X10 is only compatible with up to 16gb of external memory. Is that not correct? Can anyone clear this up for me?
X10's are compatible with up to 32gb microSD cards, I've got one in mine.
The size is important as you want to buy an SD card that works for the content that you intend on putting on it. If you have a lot of MP3s and videos, take a lot of pictures and shoot a lot of videos then obviously you are going to want at least a 16gb SD card.
The class does indeed matter. If you have hundreds or thousands of images then a class 2 card would take ages for them to all load in the Gallery. Or if you use App2SD at all a class 2 card wouldn't be able to keep up with the reading and writing and the app would be sluggish.
A class 10 card in my opinion is a bit excessive, I'd personally go for a class 4 or 6.

This is very true. I have a class 2 card and loading thumbnails for artists/albums is painfully slow in mediascape. I would go for a 32 GB if you are a music fan. I have a 1800 songs on my X10 and its already full. Class 4/6 should be good, class 10 is a little excessive.

Just take the card out of the phone. There should be a 'C' printed on the card and there will be a number inside the 'C'. This is the class of your card.
I was using stock 8 GB class 2, I brought Team 16 GB class 10. Difference in performance is noticeable.
I have a class 10 8gb card and it works way better than the stock card.
Just make sure you tweak your read_ahead_kb.. Search for SD card speed improvement or speed increase.
In general, Class 4 or 6 are good enough for the application usage by phone, such HD video and phones.
I tested my Class 4 sd card, it able to transfer ~5.5mb / sec, not bad.
Yes, when price come down, I will get a Class 100 sd card too.
cheers
I'd rather the class 200.

Class 10 significantly improves the performance.
Honestly it does not matter if someone is using the SE stock rom...however since I have tried the awesome ROM created by wolfbreak...my apps stored in sd was very sluggish...had to buy a class 10 16 gig to improve the performance...
Just got a 16Gig class 4 card...goto to play with data2sd and see the quadrant!!!!!!

If you get a real kingston class 10 you will get five times the speed of a low spec class 2 generic sd card.

Real Class 10 SD cards work at 10MB/s of data transfer speed.
Class 2=2MB/s
Class 4=4MB/s
Class 6=6MB/s
Class 8=8MB/s
Class 10=10MB/s
The best are as said by others Kingston and Sandisk.
I've a Sandisk class 6 card and i get near 5,5MB/s of data transfer.
Mine is still 8gb, i want to buy another but in Brazil it's very expensive, the taxes are very high.
Got the Wintec Filemate 16gb class 10 for just under $40 at Frys Electronics and it's given me no problems. Used it in my NookColor running tons of apps and music from it without a hitch. Now it's in my X10 and with using the SD Speed Up tools, it helped alot.

i wana to have a new MicroSD Card for my Samsung galaxy ace i have 2 options:
Transcend Memory Card MicroSDHC 8GB class 10
or
16GB class 4 almost same price online,and
my Galaxy ace is 278 MB RAM and 800MHz processor will i get smooth experience if i use 16GB card....so what to do plz reply ASAP.
nope they wont
I don't think that is how storage works, It should be fine.
If you were one of my Soldiers you would be doing pushups right now. The only downfall of a bigger SD card is the little bit it'll take to scan it upon bootup and upon unmounting it from your computer.
It should not slow down the device all the time, but during boot when scanning the card, but otherwise you should not notice a lag.

it's really more post boot, than during boot. after the phone starts, then there's be a delay when it has to scan the device.
Thats good I will buy 32gb...

write speed:10Mbps
8 GB Best.
i know there are different classes of memory cards but i dont think its that much of a difference memory cards arnt like ram where the effect the speed of your phone a noticeable amount
I also want to try 32gb to my device
Then again the more stuff you have on it, the more time it would take to index and find things bit its not really like a hard drive so it won't have fragmentation
uhs-1
what do you guys think of UHS-1 cards I found one for a nice price 16gb
Baud rate:
Reading:up to 20 MB/sec
Random read (4 KB)up to 500 IOPS
Random entry (4 KB)to 50 IOPS
I personally use a 16GB class 10 card, was made by Lexar...
It was only £15.50 and came with a USB and SD card adapter, can't complain...
Real speeds are about 11.5mb/s write, and 16mb/s read
Hope this helped you decide...
no make it slow

Would this also work? any help would be great
I have a big problem, I recently bought a microsd 8Gb and this on the PC or other phones seem to be perfect!
On my phone with just a video, it stops completely, barely manages to get to open the gallery!
I tried to open that video ... and it keeps crashing! If I connect the phone to the PC with the cable, the memory seems to be very slow, if I plug the adapter is fast, same with other phones!
My Galaxy Y is: GT-S5369, Android 2.3.6, Kernel [email protected] #1, S5369BULA1, GINGERBREAD.BULA1...
Any help?
PS: I have rooted with Universal_GB_ROOT_v5 (The only working on my phone, with re-texting GT-S5360 with GT-S5369...)

class is written on the card inside of a circle
for determining your read and write speeds, you can search google play (market) for "SD Tools".
From GPlay:
SD Tools - Info and Benchmark tools.
With SD Tools you can check your microSD card information (Name, Date, MID, OEMID,...). You can check if your card is fake. (Check serial number and MID and OEMID).
You can also benchmark sd card writing and reading speeds.
I'm using an 8gb class 4 SD card. Would it be better if I used class 6? Is there a big & noticeable difference in terms of performance?
Thanks!
Which company are you using ?

class 4 & 6 are very very closely similar..BTW no problem here
note : buy and use original SD card, fake ones are slow
I use a branded 8 gig class 4 still doing fine.
Purchase memory cards from reputable shops, to avoid knock-offs.
I used orginal Samsung 16 GB class 6 memory card, its very slow.

your screenshot is showing your internal memory test. If you want to test external memory then you have to pick /sdcard/external_sd instead.
To respond to OP: I got mine from Amazon, cost me 54 EUR for SanDisk UHS class1, class 10, XC I 64gb. 32gb Sammy MicroSD HC class 10 is performing a bit better for me (just a slight bit) but lacks the space, and SanDisk one is performing as a beauty here.
ps: if in need of my screens for test on Sandisk, let me know.
Is it worth getting a 64gb card for sg2?
I ask as I've seen many reviews tgat say data can be wiped as it's not suitable.
I'm in the market for a card though can't decide if 64gb would be overkill, but at same time would negate deleting old files vids etc I may need later...
Sandisk seems the way to go, any thoughts?

Depends on your need for storage space. I had 12Gb of music on 32GB one and photos and vids just zeroed it, let alone apps/games on it. I have no problem with 64GB now. I guess, it's each to his own. And if it is going to be self_wiped, then it will be my loss there, but I don't see any problem at this time, nor my microsd performs bad or has glitches.
Having SanDisk only for a month now, I can say I'm pleased how it's performing in terms of speed and stability. I can't predict what comes next but I never had any microsd breaking on me, or any problems in the past (had from 2 t o64GB microsd from SanDisk, Samsung etc... over 4 years time span).
Hope this helps a bit.

Owner of SGS2 here (visible in my sig.): If you pick /sdcard on SGS2 it's measuring internal storage (16GB one), if you change it to /sdcard/external_sd, then it's testing external microsd card. Dunno what SGS3 does and what not, it's on ICS as a base...

I just bought a sandisk 64gb sdxc. Can't wait for it to be delivered!!! $60 AUD on Shoppingsquare, which i think is good value
And now for my 2cents worth:
Is 64gb an overkill?
Yes, but that's what I said about my 16gb card 2 years ago, and now I have no space.
Besides, i envisage apps, music, videos to get bigger as it gets better in quality.
e.g. with 64gb i can afford to have lossless audio.
Also, I have now in my room, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb micro sd card.
I probably would have spent less money if I upgrade to a much higher capacity each time.
not to mention they are now just sitting there being wasted.
Usb adapters, lik SanDisk one, FTW / then you have a "switchable" USB key...
I don't have any wasted microSDs at all, but still has 2 x 4gb, 1 x 8 gb and 1 x 16gb micros's...
Gonna put in an order for one of these. Thanks for advice!
nice!

Hi,
Storage media of any type does not 'self-zero' itself. When it is full it stops you from writing data. Think about it: Would Sandisk still be in business if it did?
A likely reason your Sd card are self-zero'ing is because you bought a counterfeit card from a shop like Amazon or Ebay.
This is very common.
What happens? The fraudster buys cheaper 4 Gb SD Cards. He then modified the SD card firmware so that it reports to the operating system that the card is actually 32Gb. The O/S formats the card (typically a quick format by writing a few blocks at the start of the card) and you start coping the data across. Regretfully when you cross the 4 Gb limit of the card you end up writing no where. Seems that the data is simply zeroed or another error appears.
There are numerous of reports about this on Amazon.
Solution:
Don't buy SD cards from Ebay.
If you buy from Amazon then ensure that you buy from Amazon and not the Amazon MarketPlace.
Finally: If it is too cheap, then there may well be something amiss ;P
Also, I have now in my room, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb micro sd card.
I probably would have spent less money if I upgrade to a much higher capacity each time.

Problem
i buy de sandisk 64gb and when i tranfer files from mi pc to the sd card i got slow tranfer speeds (around 5-6 mb/s). The sd is in fat32 that possibily affects the perfomance?, when i do sd speed test from the play store i got 13mb/s write and 30mb/s read.
Also i cant achive mounting correctly on ntfs with the app from the marquet ntfs mounter which is in xda
someone pass something like this?

64Gb SanDisk works fine on mine, though I'm not on Cmiui, I'm on Sensation 4.1 flavor now, it's ICS 4.04 based (was on GB 2.3.6 before), 32GB Samsung one works flawlesly on my kid's SGS2 and any other older microSd we have works. Other then that, all my old microSd's are workign OK with adapters and such

Hey guys,
I've been trying to search through forums trying to understand if it's necessary to get a class 10 micro SD card for running apps from SD. But I can't get a definite answer and would like to know from someone who has tried and tested a class 4 and a class 10 with apps2sd and if there was much of a difference. I'm planning to head out tomorrow and purchase a card so any input is highly appreciated. I don't really care much about transferring speed for media such as songs and videos to and fro a PC but more for gaming. I'm leaning more towards a SanDisk 32GB class 4 as its readily available at the local stores and very affordable.

Well the class of the card not only help in trsnsfering file fast but it even helps in rendering of games and app like loading time , it helps the phone to process faster the job as while clicking pictures it helps to reduce the lag thing as u can click instant shot simultaneously.
So a class 10 is preferred since san disk have issue running with note2 so samsung sd is recommneded though I myself Is using sandisk class10 but not with app2sd so I had faced no prob yet
I have 32GB SanDisk Class 4 .. I never had any issue.. I use FileMount to put my huge apps in the SD card, never had issues with them even though they are high graphics games..
The reading speed is about 300-500 mb/s I think.. Which enough to make anything run very smoothly ..

I also run a class 4 32gb card. It's too small though.
When I bought this for my EVO I was advised not to buy a class 10. Something about the read speed being slower I think? ?
