Hi XDA.
I guess I'm new to rooting. I'm not sure how to root my Wildfire.
I have:
HBOOT 1.01.0002
Android 2.2.1
S-ON
My computer:
Linux Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal)
I've thought about unrEVOked, but I've heard that doesn't support 2.2.1 yet
And Revolutionary doesn't support HBOOT 1.01.0002.
Any ideas?
PS. Soft root is OK, and so is shell root (are those the same things? )
Downgrade to HBoot 1.01.0001 and then use Revolutionary/

I can't because to do it I need to execute a .bat file, which is only for the Windows OS, and I have Linux Ubuntu 11.04. But I could probably get access to a Windows XP machine, if that helps.
It should. Since this is a one time procedure only. Revolutionary itself has a program for Linux.
Or, try and get hold of an older version of AlphaRev X / Revolutionary (This seems unlikely though), as the older versions had partial support for HBoot 1.01.0002 which seems is totally removed in the new version.
So basically I need to downgrade from a carrier-based HBOOT (1.01.0002) to an unbranded WWE HBOOT version (1.01.0001)? Then I can use Revolutionary to root and get S-OFF?
Yes, that's about it.
And how do I flash a custom ROM? Can I do this on 2.2.1? I'd really like CyanogenMod 7 for the Wildfire . WOuld you reccomend it?
Yes, I would. I have been using it personally since its launch, and am very happy with it.
Firstly, you will have to get a Custom Recovery like Clockworkmod. The easiest way is to get this via Revolutionary itself. When it S-OFF's your device, it asks you whether you want to download and install a Custom Recovery Image or not. Select Yes, it will install Clockworkmod Recovery.
Once Clockworkmod is installed, you will have to follow this post to flash a Custom ROM:

Hi guys,
I have a Desire with HBOOT 0.75 and CM7 but want to use the Revolutionary tool to get S-OFF now. So I need to upgrade my HBOOT to 0.93.0001...
I tried to install:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed
because I read it contains HBOOT 0.93, is that right? But I got Error 131, that means I have to use a goldcard, right? Is there another way to upgrade to HBOOT 0.93?
Thanks for your help!

CM7? Then you be S-OFF by now. Unless you are talking about something else
Sent from HTC Desire via XDA App
Im running CM7 = CyanogenMod 7.1.0RC1.
This one is S-OFF? How? I wanted to get S-OFF using the Revolutionary tool before updating to 7.1stable...
There is actually a CM7 Hboot and that's what I was talking about. Check http://alpharev.nl and maybe this can get you s-off.

Thx, used AlphaRev 1.8 with no problem!
Upgraded from HBOOT 0.75 TO 0.93
[hi,
1. Downgrade to YOUR original STOCK rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
2. Once installed go to settings, about phone and firmware update. you may need to repeat the step a few time.
3. HBOOT 0.93 installed.
I looked for hours and tried many different things...
My friend has the HTC Desire, CDMA version (cspire/cellsouth version, but i think its the same hardware as the US Cellular device) with h-boot .98
i was trying to gain s-OFF but all methods were either for .93 or 1.06 and i dont know how to get there. do i need to flash new firmware before i can do ROMs?
he is fully rooted, but only on android 2.1 and he wants gingerbread sense...
any help would be much appreciated!
PLEASE
Revolutionary.io supports the HBOOT 1.06 for cdma, but it should the 0.98 as well.
If not, flash the latest firmware, then do the revolutionary procedure .
or you can just use unrevoked, it roots and S-OFF's the CDMA Desire.

if you have rooted using alpharev, then you need to downgrade the hboot using hboot downgrader from alpharev.nl, then run the respective RUU.
I could use some help with a similar issue, too!
Had everything fine, S-OFF, rooted, Cm7
Mistakenly formated my /system in clockwork recovery
Now I have .98 HBOOT but w/ S-OFF
can install ROMS and boot CM7
I have superuser installed
but no root!
What can I do to gain root back?

I want to update my HTC Desire (AMOLED) with the current hboot of 0.75.
For revolutionary I need a hboot of 0.93. So, what's the best way to do it? I can't find a good tutorial. Can I simply download the hboot image from anywhere and flash it via CWM 2.x?
Is the current ROM safe or have I to reinstall it?
Thanks!

Use alpharev and follow the instructions there.
It is recommended that you return to rooted stock ROM before you S-OFF but it is not essential (I didn't).

Most roms wont work. Its certainly safest and best practice.
Thanks for reply!
Today I installed a prerooted stock froyo rom, but Alpharev won't work. Here's the error.
Is there another simple way to update the hboot to 0.93 so I can use revolutionary?
I believe you can flash the official Gingerbread rom found on HTCdev site. This will upgrade your rom to Gingerbread as well as your hboot. Then use revolutionary to s-off.

I'm still paranoid about that piece of crap. Please don't, just use a stock 2.2 RUU, anyone you want if you have a goldcard (preferably 2.2)
you can try alpharev
http://alpharev.nl/
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with the following problem.
I have a HTC Desire from a friend of mine. He has a HBOOT 0.80 version. But the phone is S-ON
Now i want to S-OFF the phone and to install 4EXT custom recovery. The problem is that Alpharev needs a higher version of the HBOOT in order to do that.
What is the best way to upgrade the HBOOT from the desire to a newer 0.92.x. version?
The phone is rooted already and has a clockwork custom recovery installed.
Possible
You can use the official Gingerbread RUU. After the Update had done, you can S-Off with Revolutionary --> http://revolutionary.io/
But please move it to "Desire Q&A"

nooooooo that doesn't work with 0.80 either, think before you post, especially when you're wrong.

You'd be safer off to use a 2.2 RUU instead of the 2.3 one.
I have the same problem of "Possible", same same.
I tried to update the HBOOT via the official HTCdev page with file:
PB9920000_Bravo_Froyo_hboot_1.03.0003_R.exe
without success becouse the update utility give me the maessage:
Please upgrade to 2.29.405.14 to apply this RUU to be able to unlock your bootloader.
So I tried to install an original RUU with file:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe (Android 2.2)
withou any success, an error displayed at the end of process.
I tried another RUU with file:
RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe (Android 2.3)
withou any success, an error displayed at the end of process.
Now I am stak!
I'd want update HBOOT from 0.80 to higher in order to run revolutionary procedure (to have S-OFF), in order to install 4EXT recovery but it seems impossible.
Any idea?
Thanks
