I came across this video earlier today. It has to do with the lockscreen and then dialing a non emergency number. then when you back out it gives the user access to the home screen for a second.
Does anyone know how to fix/prevent this?

I do believe you can prevent this .... by using an AOSP based ROM.

So AOSP has this issue worked out. is there a way to disable the emergency dialer?
the problem with AOSP is you lose all the spen capabilities..

Physical access is the equivalent to root access on just about any piece of computer hardware. Lockscreen bug or not.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Funny thing is all you gotta do to get info from a locked device is odin twrp, backup data then extract the info from the backup. Anyone who's after data on a device and not the device itself is smart enough to know this. If they just want thw device all they need to do is boot to stock recovery and factory reset.

Thats what posts like the op's are for. What do you think will be all over google if u did a simple search on bypassing the s3 or note2 lockscreen. Hell i bet this thread is in the 1st page of results
I've been seeing a lot of posts about this but don't see the fuss. There are other ways to get the info if the phone is physically taken. If just get an app to wipe phone remotely, but I don't see the fuss myself. I myself prefer TW, so AOSP wouldn't be a fix for me of I wanted one, either. I think it's just paranoia, it'll be patched at some point in sure after all the press this is receiving.

You mean, port the Galaxy Note touchwiz over to the Epic Touch? To my knowledge, it hasn't been done. I can only see a couple of features that its build has that the ET4G doesn't, mainly the stylus notes feature. It's got a little different method to take a screenshot than we do (however, I like ours better). Can you clarify what you'd like to see from the note in the ET4G?
well what i much is the ability to use a stylus for drawing and writing.
thats if were able to use a stylus
.....its the same thing
you will never be able to use that kind of stylus on the et4g... it has a wacom sensor for it built in. aka like fm radio. we dont have the tech in the device to do it.
Well that sucks but thanks anyways

Is this a joke?
you want someone to port a touchwiz rom to a device that already runs touchwiz? wtf am i reading?
I mean don't get me wrong some of the features it has would be nice even though we could never use the stylus. BUT since we have ICS now, until the Galaxy Note gets the ICS update, I don't see any of it's features being ported.
It has nothing we don't have. Besides a different lockscreen, new messages app, a few icon changes ,n of course pen memo which would be useless for us who don't have a stylist.. probly tweaked system settings for tw 4.0;

Your first and second sentences contradict each other...
As it was stated just before me, a lot of Devs are jumping on the ICS bandwagon. Although I love some of the tricks you can do with that S Pen, without a stylus its hard to imagine what functionality that would add to a phone that already does everything. I understand where you're coming from OP, but you might have to just do like me and get the Galaxy Journal when it launches soon.

I lost my E4GT after installing the AOKP ICS ROM. I remotely installed an app called Plan B to locate the phone, but I found that it doesn't work with ICS. Does anyone know of an app that I can install remotely through the Play Store that will work with ICS?

Android Lost looked great, so I took your recommendation and push installed it. But like Where's My Droid, my text commands aren't working. My phone is probably running out of battery power by now, so I better find it quick!
I'm going to continue the search in the morning.
I use Cerberus. It is really nice. It only costs $4 for a lifetime license. It has nice features like being able to hide the app in your app drawer. It can also be integrated into your rom with a flashable zip from their website, I have not tried that feature though. I have it set to take a photo with the front camera and email it to me when the lock pattern is entered incorrectly 3 times in a row. I have some pretty funny photos of my 4 year old attempting to unlock my phone.
I just realized that you already lost your phone. I don't know how I missed that because you stated it so clearly. Cerberus is a great app, but it must be installed before your phone is lost. Sorry for the confusion.
Mystery solved
I found my E4GT....it fell out of my dash when I stopped at a light. I have no idea how it got up in there. Maybe I put it on the dash and it fell down through a hole, or maybe it defied physics and fell on the floor and slid up in there. Regardless, I'm ecstatic to have it back. I can return the new E4GT that I bought to replace it ( yeah I liked it that much).
I'm running Lookout and Cerberus now in case I ever lose it again. I like that Cerberus takes a photo of the culprit if the lock code is entered incorrectly. Thanks to everyone that offered sugesstions.

Sorry to say this but I'm running my super nova rom and haven't had any problems what so ever. Nothing looked what you're describing at all. Any chance the phone is having a hardware factory issue since so many others have experienced the same thing?

Who said anything about insurance? I'm very good friends with the store manager. He always performs a device exchange as long as it hasnt had water damage. And no, I'm pretty sure the issues I'm having are real as pressing the power button and having the unlock screen process done but captive buttons not work for 5 seconds or more, isn't a bad flash. Even on shubs one click to FF18.
Btw check list done.... settings are always left stock. Phone seems okay unless I can surgicly open it to check on internals lol... ! Yes I'm okay myself.other than my messed up fist from a drunk fist fight.
I've had the same issue with most ICS E4GT roms, and doubt it is anything user related. Don't pay attention to the trolls. I've fully wiped my phone and it made no difference. Hopefully someone can figure it out. It's pretty annoying having to turn the screen on a off twice to get the capacitive buttons working.

You can if you use the latest agat kernel built from source but remember not all developers have built in the new safe kernel! So you would always have to odin the kernel if it isnt baked with the ROM.
For reference, here is the link to source built kernel.

Ok heres my input. I believe that its a combination of software and hardware. Remember response time of soft buttons depends on how stable the rom is and also whats running at the time they where pressed. Ok say like you have a few apps it the background running and you turn off your screen. Once the screen come on the buttons may take a second to come on because the screen has more of a priorty than the soft button. Its all in how you look at it. And with apps running it slows that process down greatly because a combination of the proccesor and ram being used. Remember not notice but our soft buttons have a back light and they are press sensitive. So with them working together plus all the other stuff i explained timing would be off. But think about it. Lol is it really a depressing ordeal lol. I actually witness it and continue on without even thinking about it. Sorry for rambling lol
I am a longtime android user, own all nexus devices, etc.
My brother is thinking about making the jump from iPhone to an sgs3, should he stay on touchwiz or should I help him get a stable ROM on there? Maybe AOKP jellybean?
Suggestions and opinions/experiences appreciated.
I'd say stock for a bit then later aokp. Let him get a taste of both worlds...
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Agree. Flashing a frequently updated ROM might be a bit much for an iPhone user, and touchwiz is friendly enough!
I'd say stock w/ either Apex/Nova launcher
I say let him run stock, maybe if he wants a luncher on top of it, but if coming from iOS I would let him run TW fully there are some really cool features in TW that he will enjoy so much .
I say run stock for a few months, or until he is throughly annoyed by touch wiz. Then start flashing. Let him get used to how Android works, the menus, eyv before throwing custom stuff at him. If he doesn't know how it's SUPPOSED to work, he won't know when it DOESN'T work on a custom.
Personal opinion but no god awful touchwiz...and with the USSD bug goin around even more reason for me to never ever reccommend anyone use it
You say you have all the Nexus devices, so I'm assuming that means the Galaxy Nexus? How about letting him use your Nexus and you get an S3? That way he can get used to pure Android without having to root.

Like crap battery life, 26 hrs plus on AOKP. Lol. There are TW features that are missing (certain camera features come to mind). But to the point of the OP, if you haven't used TW much, you won't miss them. Yes, AOKP/CM10 are updated frequently, but you don't have to update unless you want to. If the build you are on is stable, battery life is great and you're happy, don't update. I flash every update, my wife is on an early August build. For a person new to the S3, I would stay stock for a month (30 day return policy). If they're happy, leave it alone. If the battery sucks, root it, load Titanium Backup, and kill all the S-crap and carrier bloat. It should be a learning process, done in steps. Android is fun and there are so many options, which (to me) is why it is better than IOS. Too many people rush into custom ROM's without acquiring the basic knowledge of how Android works.

Hey guys I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who is using some sort of app that is used for hands-free. I have bought at least 5 different type of bluetooth and never seem to get it working to how I want them to. Been searching different apps and not sure if it's possible or if I am searching it incorrectly. Basically I do driving as my job, I get a lot of calls at the same time numerous text. I can answer the calls with no problem. When it comes to replying to text I have yet to figure out how I can without physically texting back. My question is, is there an app that I can use bluetooth to read text and at the same time be able to reply through bluetooth. I have tried the Dragon hands-free assistant and couple others but they don't seem to read the text back, but it doesn't seem to pick up my bluetooth at times as well. Is there anyone that has a good app for text or even a good bluetooth suggestion. I would gladly appreciate it. Thanks for your time::good::laugh:
Im with Bell, Rooted, running Xylon 4.2.2
its easy when you use a touch wiz rom, but on AOSP roms, its more difficult to do..

Depends on which Bluetooth you get. Because I just picked up the BLUEANTQ3. And after you install the blueant app (free). It'll read back all your text to you. As far as texting back hands free, I use the Google voice typing on my phone, and types my msg's perfectly. I also use S-voice to reply to text while I'm driving..
But like WASE said, it's always harder to use AOSP. With lil features like that:banghead:. Probably why I've stuck with TW the whole time. Had all the AOSP on my SR. Don't need it on my GN2. Jmho

Thanks Bajanaman, That sounds good if the BLUEANTQ3 app can read back the text didn't know about that. I wish there was something around it I kinda hate TW after using AOSP. Thanks again Bajanman will give it a shot
