stuck on confused - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a HTC desire HD on 2.3,5 sense 3.0 s/w 3.13.110.4
I have unlocked the booter and installed the cwm mod i think, but my phone is not rooted when i check with root checker app
I did the following to install clockmod in command prompt (phone connect to pc usb debug)
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.0-ace.img
fastboot reboot
now i dont know wot to do as my phone is not rooted i have been reading for the past 2 weeks and am very confused

If you flash recovery for root you have to find a Superuser flashable a zip file with superuser that all you have to do for root after recovery

You've flashed CWM, but you haven't flashed su or a Superuser app yet, so you don't have root yet. If you want your current ROM, just with root, then flash one; I know SuperSU has a flashable zip on XDA somewhere. Or, flash a rooted custom ROM from your recovery.

i have downloaded and saved the zip on my sdcard
when i go into fastboot i cannot find the superuser.zip
do i need to open it using the command prompt

No, from recovery.

Thanks guys i have finally rooted my phone ..
Now the question is my s-on do i need to turn it to s-off or can i just flash a custom rom
And to flash a rom i go into recovery and select the zip and install
do i need to update the clockmod as i am on the blue and black screen.. read somewhere i need to have the latest clockmod to install recent ROM's ?

There's a guide in the link in my signature that will help you get started.

lol.. i did what it said in the guide now i got a phone with just a blue screen
i flashed pacman rom i can get into recovery
i will try another rom

That's a known pacman issue. Try flashing another ROM.

how to install clockwork update

How do I install a clockworkmod later version? I have v2.5 installed and v.4 is out now and I've downloaded it to PC. What next, once i get it onto my sd?
You have to be s-off. Then you are able to flash it with a flasher tool or just by a fastboot "mod" from your pc. Just use google or the search function of this forum .

So, if I'm S-On I can't update to the new version?
Either:
A)unroot and root again using custom recovery.
B)s-off and simply flash it through the fastboot.
here it is... using Terminal emulator.. the simplest method I know... Dont know whether it requires S-OFF or not but I had S-OFF..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dHVdAtG1Ew
instead of AR-recovery.. use img of CWM recovery..

Flashing recovery with Revolutionary hboot and S-off (NO ROOT)? [SOLVED]

Hi.
While back I ran Revolutionary tool to S-off and root + CWM recovery.
Recently I ran official 2.3 RUU and used stock ROM. Now I want to try ICS, but I don't have CWM anymore. Revolutionary hboot and S-off is still ok. Tried running Revolutionary tool again, but it says I'm already S-off and tries to install CWM, but fails. Tried to install CWM manually through fastboot, but it hangs on sending file. I can still see the device with "fastboot devices".
Since I used a RUU, I don't have root access anymore.
Any idea on how to flash CWM?
IF u are still s-off u can flash a new recovery, click 4ext recovery on my sig, download and install the 4ext recovery updater app then flash recovery. to get root just flash superuser zip file

How can that help me, when I don't have root access? The superuser apk itself does no good without root access. The 4EXT app need busybox, and busybox needs root.
This is the situation:
I want a custom recovery. But for that, I need root. And to get root, I need a custom recovery. It is an evil circle! But since I have Revolutionary hboot and S-OFF, there must be some way I can get a custom recovery.

The first step:
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/
Download recovery image and flash it via fastboot, or using some flasher.
Then like you did before flash Superuser .zip:
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
After that you'll have root access and you can flash 4ext recovery as well.

I quote myself from my initial post:
"Tried to install CWM manually through fastboot, but it hangs on sending file. I can still see the device with "fastboot devices"."
So that don't work for me, sorry. Seems I can't write to recovery partition. Didn't work with the Revolutionary tool either. The only thing I can think of, that could work, is if the Revolutionary tool could see the device as untouched by the tool, and start the process from the beginning.
Did you try with erase recovery command, and then flash recovery?
If that doesn't work, 2.3 RUU and start from scratch.

Seems to hang on erase command too. Screenshot:
I'll try to do another RUU.
I managed to flash CWM! Just had to change computers. Weird, since my Windows is fairly fresh and had all the right drivers.

[Q] Microphone doesn't work after unlocking hboot and breaking recovery

Hi!
Firstly to say hello to all xda members, I hope we'll be friends soon. I'm new with android but very interested in hacking and development, but... I need help to solve this problem.
What do I have:
HTC Wildfire S (marvel), EU version with 2.3.5 kernel and it was S-ON. Hboot is 1.09.0099 (stock)
What I wanted to do:
Root this device and eventually install some custom roms.
What I did:
1. Unlocked hboot with htcdev bootloader unlocking guide and it worked. Now it says *unlocked* in the hboot.
2. Reflashed recovery image with clockwork mode using fastboot. Fastboot stucks on writing 'recovery'
Current situation:
Everything seems to work well except two things:
1. Mic doesn't work. Actually it's quiet and noisy, too quiet. Nobody can hear me talking and voice search doesn't work.
2. My recovery is broken.
Maybe important thing:
I did this through virtualbox. Could that be a problem? I hope I don't really have to install windows.
The question:
What can I do now to get my mic working (in the first place)? Does anyone have any idea why fastboot doesn't work? I would like to root this device and get link2sd and stuff working.
P.S. yeah I searched xda and web and haven't found an answer.
Thanks in advance!

update:
Suddenly after many reboots and playing with fastboot and recovery mic is working now but fastboot still fails to flash recovery image and current recovery image on the phone is broken.

Thanks for the answer.
But rom manager doesn't work unless I root device, does it? It gives me an error about permissions so I would say that I have to get root before using rom manager.
Another thing I tried is using some PB76**.zip (or whatver) file in sdcard root, but I get an error about cid number. That probably can be fixed by changing android-info.txt file but I can't find out how to get my cid number.

Its look complicated from here...
Did u try pushing the recovery via adb..
Root using some toolkit..
Just search one touch root in the forums..
There are many toolkits that can root ur device.... and there is an option to flash recovery too... so root the device using toolkit and push the recovery frm thre 2...
Btw usb debugging shud be on for that too work...
Btw,, as far as I remember the zip name started like PG76**.zip

Try UnlockRoot: http://www.unlockroot.com/
It's a one-click rooting solution. All you have to do is set debugging on and need to have the drivers installed. Then you're good to go.

Hey pal first off, this is the wrong forum. This is the old wildfire forums not the wildfire s. But I shall help you out none the less
Since your phone is hboot unlocked but not s-off you need to flash your custom roms boot.img via fastboot just after you flash the rom via recovery. When you download the rom it comes in a zip file, unzip a copy of it and place the boot.img in your fastboot folder, then copy the zip to your sd card and then flash via recovery. Once it's flashed boot into hboot by using advanced reboot options I think its called. Then flash the boot.img using the command
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Where boot.img is the name of the .img you took from the zip file (just in case you have renamed it and don't know why the command is not working)
Then do fastboot reboot and the phone should boot up okay. You need to flash the boot.img for every rom change that you do. Also should you decide you want to run a RUU you must relock you hboot or it won't run.

HI.
firste off i would like to thank you for taking the time to responde to my question and im sorry about posting in the wrong forum.
i watched the XDA DEV noob video on youtube about being a noob so before i posted my question i looked through each and every post i could find about my phone s problem but NO LUCK so i decided to ask the experts
*i did relock my bootloader before i ran the Ruu and it didnt work it said main version too old and since my costume rom is based on andoird 2.3.7 and my htc can only go as far as 2.3.5 and ruu wont let you downgrade so i figured it might not work.
*now you suggested that i flash the costume rom via recovery and thats the problem i cant even get in to my recovery it just gets stuck on the white htc screen and i tried flashing the recovery Again (twrp) and nothing. even other recoveries wouldnt work.
*i flashed about 4 roms and they all worked just fine even this last one and i didnt flash the boot.img and i was able to reboot normally
THANK YOU.

Okay so, let's recap.
You are on a custom android rom.
You have a custom recovery installed.
Your cannot flash the RUU as your run version is higher than the RUU.
Lastly you cannot boot into your custom Rom, or your recovery?
Do you want to return to stick it get a custom Rom flashed?

Q: if i flash a system via fastboot successfully will it automaticly erase the old one because i tried to erase it but it said remot controle not allowed (S-on)
ok, ive requested this thread be moved to its correct forum.
before proceeding can you tell me when your htc wildfire marvel was made? after 2012?
can you flash clockworkmod recovery and then try flashing a custom htc sense rom
Then reboot back into cwm recovery (by selecting advanced/ reboot-recovery in the menus) and plug the phone into your computer via usb cable. open up your command prompt and move to your adb folder. type the following commands ( a # denotes instructions and should not be typed into the command window)
Code:
adb devices
#this should show your device up, maybe saying its in recovery mode
adb shell
# the command prompt should change to a # symbol
Now make sure you have a sdcard in the phone and then run the following command
Code:
cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/misc.img
This should leave you with a file called misc.img on your sdcard. Lastly
Code:
exit
exit
exit
your command window should have closed. now upload this file to a online storage system like dropbox and send me a pm with a link to it. I will edit it and you can flash it back, this will relock your hboot and downgrade your software version so that RUU's will work. then we will run a RUU, returning your phone to stock and functional state

Hmm.... Okay reflash twrp and see if it boots up. Without a recovery your options are limited. You need to be careful as your device uses a different kernel from older versions of the wildfire s. If you flash a older RUU version it will kill your phone.
Do you have any phone unlock shops near you?

Make sure when you go to the unlock shop you make sure they use an XTC clip http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/xtc_clip.htm
If they don't have it then do not pay for an unlock. You need s-off not SIM unlocked. Make sure to ask for it. Once your S-off you can run any RUU and fix the phone but check in here first so I can ensure that its compatible with your 2012 edition of the phone ( as I said flashing one that is too old will kill the phone!)

you need to flash clockworkmod Via fastboot commands buddy. Download clockworkmod as a recovery.img and then flash it using the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, its similar to when you flashed the unlock_token.bin to unlock your hboot so the recovery.img needs to be in the fastboot folder.

Flashing a custom recovery from a stock recovery wont work. It checks that the stuff its about to flash is from htc and a custom recovery is not made by htc. You must use fastboot. What errors if any is the fastboot command giving you?

Will that work??one more thing, what is the easiest and PROVEN way to S-off HTC WILDFIRE with HBoot 1.02.000...much like revolutionary..Many Thanks..
Use windows 7
Windows 8 didn't work with fastboot only adb with my HTC WILDFIRE A3333, Windows 7 works install driver from windows
IF you are only looking forward for CWM recovery you don't need fastboot
