the only thread i found was of no help.
heres my problem.
i have an ATT SGS3. rooted/unlocked for tmobile.
this morning i turned it on and it was stuck at the SAMSUNGS GALAXY 3 screen. ive tried to do a hard reset and it comes up with TEAMWIN and options to wipe, format, reboot etc. only problem is when i goto reboot it says there is NO OS!
how can i get to the point where i need/can reinstall an OS on the phone??!! anybody able to help??
you can email me privately if you like...
thanks

Do you have an external micro sd card? If so, you could place a rom on it and flash it in twrp.
If not, you should be able to get into download mode where you could flash a T-Mobile stock rom.
Let me know

OS's don't just disappear... did you do anything that would have erased it ?
Best option is to do as Ber suggested and load a ROM on an ext sdcard since you already have TWRP.. Flash a ROM and you are backup and going. If not just flash one of the Stock rooted firmwares on the notrip rooting guide to get back to stock rooted.

i do have a micro sd card. there is an option to flash TWRP but since there isnt an OS i cant.
i cant get into download mode at all. hold VOL up + power + home gets a quick flash saying recovery data then right to the all the options. then reboots to start screen. sowhn i get home i should be able to flash a stock rom to micro card , then be able to get to download mode?
when i rooted i used samsung toolbox program i think its called. so thats where the TEAMWIN comes from i beleive.
thanks xBeerdroiDx for your help. i really appreciate it. i want to be abe to use this phone in a bad way. hahahahha.....

You can get into download mode by pushing home+power+volume down and this should give you an option to to proceed into download mode. Now with android you can be missing the OS and your phone will be "fine". The ROM you flash is the OS. The soft brick are just fixed by going back and installing the rom from recovery. IF you wants just stock rooted go into download mode and flash with odin. Personally I'd just flash a ROM.
1. Download a ROM
2. copy it to your ext sdcard
3. Boot into recovery which it shoudl do automatically with no OS when you have TWRP.
4. Hit install. Click external storage and select the ROM you installed form there. Swipe to confirm install. Bingo !
I wonder if you hit wipe system as well when you did a factory system. It's hard to do in twrp and not sure how that happened.

Possible but in he would have to select format system and data and factory reset. You can't do all at the same time unless its a wipe script. Hard to say for sure.

Don't take this wrong but you're off on your understanding of these processes. Look over the attached link. It's all the procedures required, from rooting to flashing. You already have a custom recovery installed. Within this recovery (which you are accessing via your current button combo) you can flash a rom.

The developer upndwn4par has a twrp flashable zip of stock touchwiz. Search for him/it here on the forums
If you browse the Android development section, you will find stock firmware that you can flash via odin

You being on a mac is going to make this all the more difficult right now.
Follow this link. The download is made to be flashed in recovery. In your instance, twrp. Download it and follow the wipe instructions

Download zip
Place zip on sd card and insert into phone
Insert battery and immediately put phone in recovery mode
Wipe data

Wipe data and cache again
Reboot
It will take several minutes to boot up initially. Be patient. Once it's booted, let it sit for a few minutes and boot once mor. You should be all set to add in your tt mobile apn settings

Dear guys from XDA,
I think I messed up real good this time. My rooted HTC Desire with a 2.2 ROM wasn't taking the update which I wanted to do. To fix this I tried to manually update my phone by downloading the update on my computer and run it via Recovery mode. I used the option install zip from sd card.
Unfortunately by doing so, I did not realize I deleted my ROM and replaced it with an update. Now I'm stuck with a phone in bootloop and red triangle when trying to access recovery mode to install my older ROM (which I usually did when I messed it up).
I know I can press the volume up button and reboot but then I get stuck into a bootloop. Eventually I have to pull the battery out and I'm back at the beginning. Can't do anything anymore.
I tried many tutorials but I could not fix this, also I'm not really into the 'techy' stuff so can you guys be real clear in your help.
sounds like you're just missing a ROM on your phone. Can't you just download the ROM you want, put it on your SD card and flash that to get back up and running? Or restore a NANDroid backup?
...assuming you mean you rooted your phone and then failed at flashing a ROM..but it sounds like you might mean you attempted to download and OTA update after being rooted?
Download a ROM, put it on your SD card, boot into Recovery (vol. down + power), wipe all data, cache, dalvik, then install the new ROM from the SD card.
Hi,
thx for your reply. I am indeed missing a ROM. The problem is that I can't access the option 'install zip from sdcard' in my recovery mode. I am now trying to rename a ROM as update.zip so I can install that. Any further suggestions?

Install HTC Sync, download the RUU which most resembles your original RUU from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667.
Connect your phone via USB in fastboot, and run the RUU.exe you've downloaded. You should be fine.
yes it helps you
you can run a RUU now
just plug phone with usb cable to PC, boot into fastboot mode and execute the RUU.exe
it will go back to stock, you will lose root and custom recovery but at least it will boot up, so you can root again etc.
Thx guys! that did it for me! Really easy job! You have no idea how relieved I am right now. Some tech-guys at my local computer shop told me to send it back to the manufacturer cuz the ROM needed to be synced with the motherboard. I already thought it was a weird story.
Again, thx XDA!
I was trying to install one of drewgarens touchwiz roms. touchwiz milestone 5 firefly i believe. not the most recent one because i was too lazy . boy was that a mistake. everything was going smoothly until it booted and it got stuck on boot. I thought no big deal just go into recovery and use a backup. until i did so and recovery was gone and there was only download mode. I have spent the whole afternoon trying to fix it and none of it has worked. I tried flashing the stock rom and it as well got stuck on boot. I looked at all the AT&t relevant ones and also the international versions. so all in all is there anyway to fix this and has anyone had the same issue? i was flashing from cyanogenmod 10 m1 to the drewgaren rom btw. I can also go to download mode. I tried to flash stock but it still gets stuck on boot. log. I flashed the ATT boot logo and it did not work. all of which were flashed through odin.
any thanks in advance is greatly appreciated.
I think you can flash back to stock with just download mode + odin

Unplug your device. Hold the power button to turn it off. Hold volume up, home, and power. It should go to recovery. If you do the same thing with volume down instead of up, you can get into download mode.

K I made it home lol. I'll attach a Odin flashable cwm, it's an older one but it'll get you a recovery, I hope. I just tried it on my phone with Odin, 3.07 both with usb debugging enabled and disabled on my phone and it worked both times. Crap keep getting errors uploading right to xda servers, I'll drop box it in a minute.
Ok here we go Odin cwm--> https://dl.dropbox.com/u/28590257/Odin recovery/CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v4.tar.md5
Newest twrp --> https://dl.dropbox.com/u/28590257/Odin recovery/twrp2.3.1install.zip
I'll add the newest twrp for you lol. Flash the cwm with odin, should work and then the twrp is a zip you can flash in cwm.
Hope this helps get you a recovery.
Remember in Odin use only PDA and only have auto reboot checked.

This may sound like a stupid question but what boxes do i tick in odin?
After your hooked up and Odin is open under the options on the left side check only Auto Reboot. On the right under files check PDA and use that button to browse your computer and find the cwm you downloaded from my dropbox. Then just hit start on the bottom of the Odin window and let it finish, your phone should reboot when its done. It will get stuck again like you described in your first post but pull the battery, put it back in and boot into recovery using vol up,home and power buttons. That should (if everything flashed OK) put you into cwm 5.5.0.4. Once there wipe data/factory reset then restore the back up you mentioned in your original post, that should get you running again.

If something has happened to your backup then you could try the stock rooted stuff here , just pick the one for your carrier and follow the instructions. :highfive:

I take it you got your phone working lol. Glad I could help a little. Little advice, anytime you switch to a different type of ROM (aosp to stock based or the other way around) make sure you wipe data/factory reset before flashing anything. It will save you problems in the long run.
Oh and could you go back and edit your original post and just add solved in brackets to the title for people in trouble looking for info.

Depending on which stock ROM you flashed with odin you should now have a recovery, if not then something isn't right. The full bone stock ROM should have the factory 3e recovery, and the root injected stock ROM should have some version of CWM recovery. A factory reset will most likely fix your boot loop, if there is no recovery flash the rooted stock ROM that matches your device from this guide.

Hello everyone. I was attempting to install the Liquid Smooth 3.0 Beta ROM but it said failed in red words. So i wiped again and installed my backup. Its been stuck in boot loop. I've looked and can't seem to find how to enter recovery mode. I tried holding power + volume up + home and it just restarts the phone before it gets to the boot loop screen. Also, once I get in recovery mode, what would be the next step to fix the boot loop? Right now im reinstalling the ROM I had on backup (intergalactic) . Or should I wipe and re-install the backup?
Thanks
EDIT: Found the combo ( Volume up + home ). Now restoring my backup. If this doesn't fix the bootloop what should I do? Also when I mount my USB in recovery it doesn't show up on my computer.

If you get to recovery mode, try doing a hard wipe/reset to return your phone to its original settings. You will lose all saved data so please keep your backup. Your phone may not be recognized by the computer in recovery mode but in download mode. Are you using custom recovery or stock recovery? If custom, which one?

Good! With TWRP, you will see the wipe option on the home screen immediately you get into recovery mode. Just do the standard wipe and then reboot to system.

Sometimes, it may take several minutes after the reset for your phone to finally boot up so you may have to wait a bit before deciding it didn't work. However, do you recall what (stock) Android version you had before you attempted to flash the custom ROM?

Before I rooted? I was Jelly Bean 4.1.2 I think. But I flashed many Custom ROMs, the last one was 4.3 . The one I was installing was 4.4.2. But I dont think thats the problem, It just said failed to flash. And the back up restore was successful, just a boot loop. If I could get my computer to recognize my phone I could put my original ROM download in and flash that.

Normally, if it was just a case of your phone getting stuck in a boot loop, a hard wipe/reset will fix that. If it's still not coming on, then it could be a slightly more severe case of firmware failure which, thankfully, can be easily recovered from since you can get into download and recovery modes. Your best option now would be to flash an official (stock) ROM to get your phone back in working order. From what you've said about the firmware history, stock Android 4.3 would be your best bet as you probably have the 4.3 boot-loader already. You can download the zip file you will find in the discussion thread below and flash this via TWRP recovery. The process is fairly simple. Download the zip file to your PC - do not extract. Verify the MD5. Copy to a micro SDHC card. Place the card in your phone. Boot to recovery mode. Select install and navigate your way to the zip file you just copied. Swipe across the screen to confirm installation. Wait for installation to complete. Clear your cache/dalvik. Reboot your system. Good luck!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
Before flashing custom ROMs, it is always helpful to do a lot of research as there is no easier way to brick or backdoor your phone.
NB
You need a special app to verify MD5. It's just a check to ensure you have the correct file and it downloaded correctly. If you do not have the app, check that the zip you have is about 933MB after download.

You need the first one since you are on TWRP. You are not connecting your phone to the computer at all so there is no worry about that. You only need to download the image to your computer and then copy it to an external Micro SD card using another device like a camera, phone, SDHC card reader/writer or SDHC card adapter if your PC has the required slot. Once you have the recovery image saved on to the external SD card, insert the card into your phone and boot into recovery mode. You will then install the zip from the card. This ROM should not only fix the boot loop, it will restore your phone to as near factory settings as possible including resetting your flash counter, installing the complete stock system and stock recovery.
Once you have your phone back in working order, you can revert to flashing custom ROMs but please be very careful and do all the research you need. Specifically, you should avoid any ROMs that may attempt to mess with your boot-loader.

Thanks for your help! That was a great idea, moving my SD card to a different device then putting the .zip in there and flashing from my device. Worked Perfectly. Didn't even have to use the restore file you linked me, I just re-flashed the old ROM i was using ( brand new, not the back up ). And its starting up now, all of my apps, widgets, wallpapers, and messages are exactly how I left them. Which is weird because of how many times I wiped and the fact that I re-flashed a brand new ROM lol.
Man this makes me not want to change ROMs anymore. Small stuff like this makes me paranoid. I don't have a back up phone lol

Glad to know your phone is now functioning normally. One of your earlier restore operations probably restored your data whilst the new ROM you flashed restored the system without deleting data. Thankfully, you didn't lose anything. Now the phone is back to normal, please be careful with flashing ROMs especially custom ones.
Hi,
I tried to install cm11 on my new F240L and i think i used the wrong cwm file on freegee.
Now when i turn it on there is a screen on for a second saying: secure booting error. cause: device unlock! , so boot success!!
after that it goes to a screen loop of cm logo spinning.
i couldn't find a solution online.
What can I do?

I get the same device unlock error when I boot up, but I believe that is normal when you have root.. Did the CM file flash successfully and which one did you use?
yes it said the flash was successful and still its stuck in a loop.
could it be the wrong cwm on freegee?

Can you still get to CWM? If so, try wiping cache and dalvik cache to begin with.. If that doesn't work, do you know how to push files from the computer to the phone through ADB? If you do, here is the link for correct recoveries for the F240L..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2361941
You could download and push one of those recoveries, reboot to recovery, then try to reflash CM11...if all else fails, you can return to stock with the LG Flash tools and start from scratch..

No I don't think you have destroyed it.. Is there an option in CWM to sideload files (through ADB)?

yes there is.
after pressing on install zip it says: install zip from sideload
Do you know how to sideload? You can try to download and sideload another rom that is compatible with your device.. As long as you can get to recovery or download mode you still have hope...If your screen doesn't turn on at all, that's when you are hard bricked and out of luck

I didn't even think about this, but if it still recognizes your external SD card, you can download a rom onto your computer, copy it to the SD card, then install through CWM.

SD does nor seem to work
I do not know how to do that. Where is it recommended to learn?
You first have to have Android SDK found here:
https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
This link explains what ADB is and how to use it:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/
I'm not familiar with the F240L as mine is the E980.. I don't want to give you any wrong information...
I did find this thread that looks similar to your problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552699
That may be a start on how to fix it.. I know how frustrating it can be.. I have soft bricked mine once..
thanks! I read and tried pushing several files a few times and they either install successfully and i come back to cwm or are stuck trying to install the rom.
again, any ideas?

I'm out of ideas for you to try other than a complete stock restore and start over.. I would read ALOT before doing anything that may cause issues...
I found this thread on how to return to stock on your phone (looks like he gave really good instructions):

finally after endless tries I got a break! thanks a million for your help!!
now I have a miui v5.5 that only has english and chieneese on it.
I dont really like it and would prefer anything that's stock google 4.4, though i think im to traumatized to go through anything like that again. I cant even install nova on it now.
So I flashed a ROM, not gonna mention which so I'm not withchunted.
It bootlooped and after a second flash, same thing.
I did a factory reset and Data cleanup and device says no OS found, I got TWRP however.
I tried using a backup, but it says "Failed" in the middle of it. Nor I can mount as USB Storage or whatever you'd call it
Don't know how to recover through Odin, please help.

How u clean up?
If u still have twrp, try to use sd card reader and copy a prerooted rom/custom rom to ur sdcard from pc or laptop.
After that u can try to flash it from twrp.

I still have the ROM in my phone. However, it won't flash after the Factory Reset. It's like root access are now gone
About how I cleaned up - System, Dalvik cache, cache
Nevermind, powered phone off and it installed SuperSU, flashed my backup and I'm back to DN3, never gonna change again
Nevermind, backup still failed. Gonna install that other ROM so I can transfer DN3 to it directly.
-Second issue has arised - Now I cant use DN3 properly, I get the error: com.procces.android.acome has stopped.
I didn't clean data, but guess I will do that.
As long as you have your recovery (TWRP or Philz) you are pretty much safe. Just download and copy a ROM to your external sd card and use recovery to flash.
If that fails then Odin is really simple.
Just hold volume down, home and power buttons and you'll be booted into the download mode screen... (press volume up to continue).
Then get your firmware from sammobile.com and get Odin (Google will help find it fast)
Open Odin and put the file(s) in the right boxes (they normally tell you which ones if it's multiple files, and put in PDA if it's the single file).
Then hit start and sit back while the phone is brought back from the dead.

If you have DN3 on your external sd card, use the advanced wipe in TWRP and select all but the bottom 2. This will clear everything and get the phone ready for a fresh start with DN3.

Did all that, thank you.
I had the other ROM still in the card, and despite no OS TWRP rooted my phone and allowed me to flash it, from there I managed to do all.
It was just bothersome there was no way to mount USB and transfer it through TWRP, did it through Philz the last time and it was easy.
Back to philz now
