The UI on the Note 2 is so slow that even though I only tap the home button, by the time the display wakes it has been registered as a hold and therefore the first thing I see is the app switching list.
- this doesn't happen every time, because occasionally the UI is less laggy
- I'm not using anything that causes the device to be unusually laggy, in fact I have a lot of bloat disabled. I imagine everyone who doesn't use a lockscreen is experiencing this problem
- this isn't an issue for people who use lock screens (obviously)
So how can I make it so waking the device with the home button is always only registered as a press so that the inherent UI lag doesn't cause it to be registered as a hold?

Hi, You can try disabling S-Voice to make home button faster, because S - Voice uses homebutton. try it, it really works

Hey thanks, but it's already disabled...
I was trying to be clear that the issue is with the inherent UI lag, so that even though I tap (not hold) home, the UI is so slow that by the time the screen wakes the system thinks I've been holding it the whole time.
Solutions would be:
- bind app switching to something other than holding home
- increase UI wake time dramatically
- other things that I haven't considered

Hey guys,
I'm new to the Note 2 and to xda developpers in general, so be patient if I take time understanding things.
I bought a Note 2 from Videotron (i know its not T-mobile). When my phone is locked and I press the side power button or the home button to turn the screen on, I notice that more times than not, it takes about 2-3 seconds to unlock. That may not sounds like much, but trust me, it gets annoying.
Does anyone know of any solution to this?
Thanks!
Try going into "Lock screen" options in Settings and disabling "Pop up note on lock screen". Also try disabling the ripple effect.
People have also said that changing the animation settings in Developer options speeds it up a bit. Though personally I can't stand doing that.
Your milage may vary.

Thanks darkierawr, i was having the same problem. Disabling popup Note has fixed it.
None of those options took the wake lag away for me. I love the phone but i hope this bug gets ironed out along with some of the ui lag i get.
Ive noticed this too. And it is annoyong, the phone is so fast in every other way, the lag seems very noticable on unlock and hitting the home button. My popup on note has always been disbled, and I tried tweaking the developer options as mentioned on another thread, but didnt seem to help.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
My experience with newer Samsung phones, all of them have this issue. I think it has something to do with how the chip goes to sleep, it's how they conserve power. My Sprint Epic4GTouch did it, my Note N7000 did it and now the N7100. All my other phones before those were HTC.
You have to disable S-Voice from settings. That is what it's causing the super slow wakeup.
For me the unlocking the device is fast. But there is a lag in the light to turn on.
I have as much features running so I can learn the device. And have huge amount of apps as always. I also have Nova Launcher and TouchWiz both running. I find by doing that all features work including Page Buddy and yet get the customization the I want. I did disabled lots of auto start background processes that I didn't need to auto run (AutoStarts). That solved lots of delays in the system.
The lag I experience is from the device waking up from sleep. But then all smooth.

Something else that you can do to eliminate the lag: open the S Voice and uncheck home button open S Voice. The device waits for an extra second to see if you are going to push the home button twice for S Voice and then it opens if you don't.
I have the international version but have the same problem with screen going on when pressing the power button. Disabled S-Voice and Pop-Up note and have some improvement but still it is noticeable slow.
My wife's US Cellular version (SM-T807R4, no SIM, running wifi only), seems to regularly freeze since it received the 6.0.1 update. It will un-freeze if she closes the case cover and opens it but it's annoying. It doesn't seem to be application sensitive. As I type this she was reading the NYTimes (via the app) and looking at Facebook and it froze in each app. Any ideas/suggestions?
My Tab S seems to loose input from the display frequently. Oddly I've noticed the volume rocker works while this happens along with the power button to toggle the display. It's almost like the system is lagging at moments of activity. It is frustrating but the system doesn't crash. I have seen other posts which suggest similar but have found no solution. I had the same issue with Lollipop. I'm happy enough with the device and it seems to recover, that I keep it. Maybe it's specific to cellular models because they use a different CPU? Sometimes I toggle the display with a quick tap to the power button, not sure if it recovers more quickly.
Unsure if anyone is experiencing this issue or it is just my thumb.
When I am holding the phone in my right hand scrolling down the screen with my thumb reading or moving through an app, i will get a too frequent misfire that bounces me back to the top of article or app screen.
My thumb motions are downward. However, the screen is obviously interpreting I am flipping upward.
Is there a setting that might change this? I do not have increased screen sensitivity turned on. Is there an elasticity setting that may be causing this?
Curved screen can still register palm touches just holding the P6P.
same issue
I use one finger to turn the page and my palm is not touching any screen edge
some apps are causing weird scrolling issues. the reddit and twitter apps (can be) problematic right now. I've seen at least 4 cases where removing those apps completely and using alternatives (like Relay and Albatross) has resolved issus. so it could be it...what app are you having an issue with? try chrome in safe mode , see how the scrolling is (safe mode only works with google apps, and it turns off network so turn it on if you do try it)

Thanks for the insight. Reuters News app, Brave Browser, NYT app, pretty much any app when scrolling down reading.

any changes in safe mode? only google apps work on that mode but worth a try
Honestly, I don't see how to get into safe mode on the P6P.
I can get to the menu w/ power button + volume down. What am I missing? It's been a while.

the power menu can be brought up in the notifications menu (Swipe down twice, you'll see the power icon). from there just long-press on the "Restart" button.
Thank you!
As you mentioned, in safe mode I can't try any of the apps where I experienced the issue.
It defaults to slide mode making it VERY hard to type also randomly activates hold mute etc when on a call at very slight movements or goes to home screen in middle of using apps. Have looked for gestures in settings are disabled it is still almost unusable unless I take extreme care when using it, shake settings not found. Hitbox for keys is huge also way bigger than all other phones I have used making it nearly impossible to cleanly type when I can't use voice features. It stays updated too so that's not the problem. Manufacture please reply.
So I've recently replaced my screen and I'm getting some strange behaviour with the touch interactivity. I have turned on tap visibility in the developer options and will try and descibe what is happening...
It seems to really dislike some apps, for example on the home screen it is the worst - It sees my fingertip contact when i tap, but its as if i'm holding my fingers down. This is the kind of behaviour in the lock screen too.
The weird thing is though, that I can get to the settings menu through holding the power key > "Side key settings" - and everything works perfectly. In other apps it its also pretty usable - though maybe slightly more laggy sometimes and can hang for a few moments.
I am wondering whether this sounds like a software or a hardware issue to anyone with more expertise? (relatively new to this repair/modding stuff). I have tried downgrading it to a younger version of android with odin but that didn't work. I am also wondering whether rooting might open some possibilities?
Thanks
