Google has stated wiping battery stats does nothing
When you wipe cache dalvik gets wiped.
All that is needed is a wipe data Factory Reset.
All ROMs wipe system before install.

I know wiping battery stats doeant have to be done, but if u run into errors where the battery is draining too quickly, having a percise log of whats going on since u flashed the Rom is good to have for diagnostic reasons.
Wiping just once doesnt always wipe everything. Small fragments are left over, which weren't wiped the first time.

Wives tale. Nothing is gained by clearing battery stats and nothing is gained by wiping more than once. Its like formatting a drive on your PC you do not do it twice.

No one is saying anything is gained, its more precautionary. Measure twice and cut once. Smh

I've tried every option on CWM, but I don't think I was able to properly do a full wipe, as trying to install newest mod weren't working.
To me, what really did the trick (finally, after 1 whole day stuck in this) was the following:
Code:
fastboot -w

Hey guys so I just flashed this rom on to my phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175842
It looks amazing, but how do I get it to work without all the force closes?
Nils says this in the thread:
"If you choose to flash over without a wipe and have lags, FC's, things missing, or things just don't work right then flash again with a complete wipe"
What does he mean by a complete wipe? and how do I do this? Thanks everyone!
Use Rom manager(found in market) boot into recovery. You will see 2 wipe options Data and cache partition. Wipe both 3 times each. Still in recovery click on advanced. Wipe dalvick cache 3 times. Then install rom.
Full wipe

You don't need to wipe each thing 3 times; it's the same code executing, so once is perfectly fine.
anyway, like MagnaCore said, a full wipe is:
Factory Reset
Wipe Data/Cache partition
go to advanced
wipe system
wipe data
wipe dalvik cache
I think that's where they're located; can't remember 100% for sure tho.
I'd do what the poster above me said, and /system is actually in the "mounts and storage" menu in recovery.
Ah that's right couldn't remember where it was for sure. Thanks for the correction.
No problem. Always a good thing to remember to wipe, since it isn't covered by the wipe data/factory reset option. IMO it's better to be more thorough with WHAT you're wiping as opposed to doing it multiple times..

Exactly.
I usually do the factory reset, wipe data/cache, go to mounts, wipe system/data/cache again, and then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache; just to make sure I got everything.
Bmw, you have .92 hboot, yes? You'll find force closes with this if not.

I am having problems with the install button on Getjar & Amazon. Everytime i download an app the install button is froze & wont light up but the cancel button works just fine. Any idea what could be doing it? I am running the Team Nocturnal Rom. Have been running for a while & problem just started. Need help. I tryed restarting phone, no go. Thanks.

I'm assuming that you do have unknown sources checked, since you have the Amazon Appstore installed.
Have you tried wiping caches? Reflashing the rom?
Either of those should fix your problem.

U can also try fixing permissions in recovery if u have amon or the amon style forked recovery its called fix permissions > fix uid mismatches it may help especially if you wipe cache from settings > applications > the apps you have problems with then boot to recovery wipe cache and dalvik the fix permissions and hopefully it should fix the issue
Edit: or you may need to delete the apps boot to recovery wipe cache and dalvik then reinstall the apps

I will try fixing permissions & let you know if it works. Reflashing Rom is the very last thing I want to do! I would have to restart all my games sign back into everything ect. Thanks.
Update: Just fixed permissions without wiping any cache & everything is back to normal. Thanks for the help!

For the record, when you run into issues you can reflash the rom without data loss - just wipe cache and dalvik only. Unless your rom automatically wipes dalvik as part of the flash. This will reset the permissions as well, at least on system apps.

Did you flash with clockwork mod? If so in CW did you do a factory reset/wipe data and wipe the cache/dalvik cache?
I didn't factory reset maybe thats my problem. And yeah its cwm. Ima try it.

My recommendation just to cover all parts because these phones can be weird is to:
From CWM:
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache and dalvik cache
-install ROM
-wipe data/factory reset
-and wipe cache and dalvik cache
Sometimes for me if I would remove my sim card or any external sd cards that would some how fix the problem. Hope that works!
Thanks dude ima try it one more time. I just flashed it but it didnt work ima try flashing again

also you might have a bad download use a md5 checker to confirm if its good or not. of it is download again of course.
Which version are you tryin to flash? If its 3.8 then you should flash 3.7 first, let it boot up, go back to recovery then flash calkulins modified format all (no data) found in the blazer rom thread and finally during the same recovery session flash 3.8
sent from an e4gt hungry for some ice cream sandwich
Why do plp not use md5 checker. Here now use it.
I flashed AOKP milestone 5, I was coming from M4. I backed up SMS, pics, music and synced to Google for contacts in anticipation that when I wipe/reset I'd lose everything...
Flashed m5 and gapps after wiping and when I rebooted Android started to upgrade them it said something about apps and went configuring apps 1/138 and so on until it was done.
I was booted back into exactly what I had before same settings, apps, music. I went to about screen and I'm on M5 and 4.04
Did something go wrong ? Should I of had to get all my stuff back? Did I do a dirty flash somehow?
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you didn't wipe it properly if it is working good no need to now but if you have problems then you should wipe and reflash.

Did you wipe all 3 areas? And how many times did you wipe?

I went into recovery and did wipe/data reset

Should I have done something else? Why did it install fine but I had everything still.
Like music pics contacts sms

Any extra input on this? Shall I reflash, I've been going for a few hours now and haven't noticed any problems but I want to be on the safe side

Check the Android revolution thread for the super wipe zip. Flash that then re flash m5.

You are good. It was rebuilding dalvik cache from you wipe before the installation.
So any reason that when I wiped, it well, didn't wipe? I only did data/factory reset in the recovery menu.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
You didn't wipe cache and Dalvik cache.
Factory/data wipe formats cache & data.
I wiped, cache, dalvik cache and data/factory reset then flashed AOKP M5 and Gapps again. When i got rebooted, its the same thing.. all my music is there, pics, sms, contacts, apps.
Why wont the phone let me wipe and install a rom fresh?
Is it because im already coming for aokp m4?
It is something to do with Clockwork mod?
Please help.
Try that super wipe lite zip mention earlier or go into the mounts section and format data, cache and system. Then wipe dalvik. Flash rom & gapps again.

i had this problem before when doing factory reset from cwm. i just use fastboot to flash stock 4.0.4 then use cwm to flash aokp.
1) wipe data/factory reset
2) wipe /system (if you don't wipe this partition it leaves settings and files from the previous rom that could prove problematic)
3) wipe dalvik
4) flash rom
5) flash gapps
if installing a kernel after wards
6) wipe dalvik (again)
7) flash kernel
The music and pics should matter unless your wiping the sd card in recovery the SMS should have been gone after a wipe though
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yeah the SMS is still there.. idk what to do its not like the phone doesn't work or anything but its weird that I can't wipe and start clean I'll prolly have to unroot/ lock the boot loader and start all over. If anyone else has any input, please share

Wipe everything !
Go to 'WIPE' and select 'FACTORY RESET' then wipe 'CACHE' and 'DALVIK CACHE' then reboot and start your ROM from scratch.
