I just got this phone last Wednesday but i was curious about one thing. This phone has the HSDPA+42 radio? I think it does but my speeds (although still good) or not as fast as my nexus 4. I get with the note 2 about 15Mbps download. On my nexus 4 i would get from 17-23 Mbps

Maybe because they're using different APNs? The nexus 4 is probably using epc.tmobile.com while the note 2 is probably using fast.t-mobile.com.
When i update my Tmobile note 2 to the latest firmware i noticed slow download/upload speed so i changed my APN back to epc.tmobile.com and i get my 20mbps down again... THE new update enabled the LTE radio and changed the APN from epc.tmobile.com to fast.t-mobile.com...

That's not really turning on lte. I believe it was just to have LTE as a option, but it's not like it'll do you any good.

Why wouldn't do me any good if I had the option to select it? I live in Vegas they keep turning it on and off while they test it. I was at the T Mobile store today and one of the reps had their Note running on LTE.

Really dude ? NO.
The rep at the store was running a test build which enables the LTE radio to be used.

I guess we gotta wait on a leak for this ota then. I was thinking we were ready to roll without any mods but I guess not...
There's already a person with it activated in a test device. He said it has new apns and is based on android 4.1.2, so when you see that update we will have LTE. Right now it is currently only going to be active in Las Vegas, and Kansas City.
There is a CM10 ROM that is suposedly gonna have LTE capablilties. I have not yet tested it but I may at a later date.

I went to *#22693# and came across an LTE option on my T-Mobile Note 2, has it always been there? I thought the bands were not enabled yet.
Currently on LL4 .
Curious, when lte comes out, would it consume a lot more battery power than the current 4g?
And what if your on rooted rom? Will the option be there or will you need to revert to stock for the OTA ?

Tbh id rather wait for the tmobile lte than try and use att. I had my friend at work run speedtest on his and its not much more faster than our hspa+ right now.
My connection on average is around 13-15mps, ive peaked at 22mps too before. The att one that was ran was at about 19mps. Since att is realease 9 lte and tmobile is said to be releasing release 10 lte. Im going to wait and see.
Hopefully the 2 people here can post their speeds with the test devices to see what we can look forward too.

If your connected to LTE you should see about an 30 min to an hour less of battery life, if your connected to "4G" (3G) but your phone is constantly searching for a LTE signal you going to lose about 1:30-2 hours.
I just bought some batteries to deal with this

Any news on LTE in Vegas? Can you post your screens of ServiceMode or speedtests?
THanks
Thanks that explains why my battery life has been fluctuating. Even when I am connected to 3G my phone still displays 4G and the battery life consumed is the same when I am connected to either type. Is there anyway to turn on the data connection automatically whenever a particular app requires it?

Honestly I'm thinking some of the issues are the build.prop
Ive been adding a few things ril related
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=28
ro.ril.hsupa.category=9
ro.ril.hsxpa=5
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
And getting somewhat better performance though I'm not certain they are helping I don't have the energy to check if something else is setting them
Just add a new APN with epc.tmobile.com, the new APN (fast.t-mobile.com)on the 4.1.2 is the one making you get the slow speed.

the new APN is for the LTE network supposedly. Not sure if it will be only for LTE or if you'll be able to epc for LTE as well.
I'm in one of the LTE markets and keep flipping between stock and carbon rom. Tried cyanogen and have had the best luck.
I bought my note 2 at full retail for use on prepaid 70$ plan to see if I want to switch off my VZW unlimited data with 30$ hotspot.
I'm anxiously awaiting LTE turn up!

They cover how to make the APNs editable in these forums you'll have to search. I don't have the energy to look at the moment.

I thing they are testing LTE under fast.t-mobile.com but if you live in a tmobile LTE area is no need to change to epc but if you see slow speed have the epc apn available to switch for faster HSPA+.

Are you sure you're using the T-Mobile LTE APN? I'm pretty sure the standard connectivity speed for T-Mobile is 14 Mbps. Any incorrect or unknown APN will also be routed directly to the network's default, so it would help to know exactly which setting you are using.
Thanks!

Unfortunately that's just Dual HSPA+
You will see "4G LTE" instead of just "4G" on the top of your notification when it's enabled in your area. I'm keeping my fingers crossed also. When LTE is working you will also see a big difference with your upload speed as well.

fast.t-mobile.com ... My Note 2 updated itself yesterday and changed the APN to that. I have not been able to check it yet because I am on Simple Mobile and they turned off my data today for "violation of terms" [again]. When I stream outbound video they do that automatically. I do it on purpose just to piss them off ... right before my prepaid renewal of the 22nd of the month tomorrow. Will be anxious to see if Simple is given the LTE network too. Hey gang, rooted my s3 this week. This is my first Android device and is 8 days old. I didn't waste any time!!
I put task650s build of 4.2.2 on with cw recovery 6.0 3.1.
On stock I was getting LTE but now I mostly get 3g and sometimes 4g but very low connection bars on 4g.
Apn set to pda.bell.ca
Network mode set to LTE/GSM/WCDMA
Any way to fix this?
Thanks!
