Don't get me wrong I love my S3. Left the iPhone 5 for it. However lately I've started to get bored with the S3. I tried CM10.1 and had some issues so I came back to TW. I've been thinking about Liquid smooth since I've heard good things. Anyone have any cool apps or games they can recommend to keep me busy?

I don't know how you can ever get bored with any Android phone with a good community. First of all, there are SO many different ROMs to flash here (TW based / AOSP based / Hybrid all offering so many different things). Once you've flashed a ROM you like, you'll spend countless hours customizing every option in it. Then you can spend time finding the perfect kernel to match it (and undervolting / overclocking takes a while to get perfect). If that is not enough, you can get involved in kernel development, ROM development, or even theme development. The possibilities are really endless with Android. On the iCrap, you're literally locked in to one setup (hell, you need to jailbreak to even customize your homescreen). I can see how THAT would get boring quickly.
My personal favorite ROM is Slim Bean, everything just works and the features offered in it are amazing.

Why would I spend countless hours flashing roms and kernels. My thread has nothing to do with roms and kernels. I simply stated what I ran and what I'm planning on running. My question really is any good apps or games someone can recommend to keep me busy.

Maybe because your post was mostly about going with 10.1 and coming back? That's certainly what most would think. Apps and games, ask more specifically because nobody has any idea what you'd like. You won't like what I run so can't help. ROMs, maybe but apps, no.
When I get bored I look in Dev for ROM's or Kernels that might need testers LOL.

When I got bored I started to look through the Q&A thread and started helping the "noobs" out. It's been forcing me to really know what's going on with the phone and to think like a troubleshooter. I usually will flash whatever ROM/Mod they're having trouble with and see if I can replicate it. I also try to write out instructions in a clear, legible way. It's actually been a bit of a challenge to disseminate the information into a clear, concise form. I know it's not technically an app or game I play that keeps the phone fresh, but this is what's keeping me from getting the itch for a new phone.

Yeah I go through QnA and Gen all the time to help out. But that isn't because of boredom it because I want to and like to. It keeps me sharp for my real job which is tech support for a hospital.

My real job is structural engineering, so I don't get to do much IT troubleshooting (although sometimes my boss asks me how to do something in excel, huzzah!). So yeah, it's not 100% out of boredom, but it does keep the boredom at bay.

Sorry OP for a little hi-jack action. The only games I really play is cribbage, galaxy, jewels stars and pac-man LOL not sure that list will help you.
@OP
Here: Whats your favorite game?
And here: What are your favorite apps and games?
Sometimes getting bored is a good thing.
I came from the old windows mobile world, where you had to constantly flash custom roms just to make the thing usable. Never got bored trying to keep it functional.
When I switched to Android suddenly the phone was reliable, fast and did what I wanted, but a little laggy at times. That kept me tweaking the phone with roms until they released ICS for my GS3. At that point the phone was solid, fast reliable, and did everything pretty well. So now I am really happy with stock MB1. Look at all the time I have for other things now!
You must have been going insane on the iPhone Lol. Sometimes I go to other phone threads to see what's going on, but if you post there and they know you have a S3 it turns into an argument, at least that was my experience with the Optimus G. Check out the themes and apps section too, there is stuff you can check out without changing your ROM there.

Ok first a thank you goes out to all the developers before I go on my rant and question. I started rooting awhile back but got real serious with my s2. This site and people here taught me a lot just by reading and following instructions. Now I was away for awhile playing around with iPhones ( I know I know don't kill me) anyway I went back to my android with a s3 and my wife a one x. I ran stock for a few months but as you all know once you go custom it's hard to stay stock. So I rooted a week ago but can't find a Rom I want to run. Now this not for the lack of roms that sound and look good but things have changed so much on this site I don't know what to run. With my s2 I would look at a Rom read through comments about what was working, not working, or problems the Rom has and fixs. So on to my question. Pardon me but wth is going on with dev.forum. I look at a Rom and have to sift through pages and pages of crap that should be else where. People talking trash about developers, people fighting cause one person says yes but didn't read another's question. I wanted to learn how to make mods and work my way up to roms but I can't even find what Rom I want to use through all the crap. What happened to all that stuff being removed and such? Anyway enough of the soap box if there is anyone that really knows what their talking about like a mod. A developer or such that when they have time help me find a Rom that works for me. I asked before and got 2 roms recommended and of course the just try one till you like it but again I can't get through the crap on here. Sorry people who wasn't to talk trash about what a Rom did to your phone but if you would read through post without all the crap you can tell if you want to try it just by responses. Anyway any help would be helpful. Thanks for reading.

Just some advice, not trying to be rude or anything, but most people won't read a big wall of text like that. Break up your post into a few paragraphs so that it's readable and you'll get a lot better response.
I get what your saying, but that's also my point I have read long blocks of text about roms and problems. Give the reason why I didn't have to join till middle of this year to ask questions because answers where there. Not reading even if it's a wall of text seams to be part of the problem.

Story of every devs life, they should up the post count to 30 to keep noobs out of development with their useless questions. Although that wouldn't deter them much. What were you running previously on your s2(aokp,cm,what was the base)? That would help with pointing you in the right direction ROM wise

Blazer ROM on sprint for s3, you could flash that if you get sprint modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746184
Or there are ways of porting it. Supposed to be a script someewhere around here. Gonna have to search for that though if you want blazer. Oh wait I found it:

I know this gets a little into the problem you commented on in the OP, but a lot depends on a couple of things. Do you like TouchWiz? If you do there a few options, a few of them will be ICS(LH1) and a few are Jelly Bean. Personally the best one out there is Triune(Not that any others are bad), there are also a couple of TW JellyBean ROM's too, Serenity 1.2 is a AT&T Rom ported from the Note II, which I have great luck with. If you are not interested in a "stock" ROM, then we're talking CM or AOSP, and obviously CM10(JB) is a huge name out there, but in the AOSP world there is Task's, The Collective, and Liquidsmooth. I haven't run Liquids yet, but my phone REALLY liked The Collective's ROM. For me, the only JB Roms that dont crush my battery is The Collective's AOCP, and with the Stock TW Roms, it doesnt get any better than Triune II
I know it's kind of a pain to wade through, but unfortunately, you need to try them for yourself. It really is the only way

You are the second one to lead me towards that rom,i tried a few jb roms today and had some issues, same as when i had the s2, before ics all the ics roms had problems. Which is probley why i stuck with blazer since it was a gb based rom with upgrades. Thanks for all the help to es veryone who has responded also. I understand you have to play around with the roms some i guess my bigger question was how did xda dev. forums get so childish. Seams to be alot of arguments that dont need to be there. I couldnt belive it when i seen people telling devolpers to hurry up,and if they dont update there rom every 2 weeks they should be shut down?? It just crawled all over me because they dont have to be doing any of this. I mean my kids dont yell at the people that dont GIVE them the good candy during trick or treat.

Yeah, some of the users can get a bit childish in their expectations and their responses. It can be a little trying sometimes, and I've seen more than one dev step out because of it. It's too bad. But, people have also started stepping up and reporting bad posts to the mods, which seem to help some. With the amount of users here now, it's a little to be expected. You have to have the good with the bad
Im looking for a rom to fill my needs, A rom with working wifi tether, usb tether, s-beam, Wifi direct, overclocking capabilities and maybe some of the stock TW sg3 features like screen on when viewing screen, call when you put to ear and things like that.
I know im asking a lot but I figured I'd ask to see what everyone else is running with high demands like me.
( by the way, I'm used to running aosp roms since I dont really care for TW rom lay outs, Unless thats a simple fix like running a custom launcher?)
Any input is greatly appreciated!

Before this gets locked by our mods.... go into dev section, check out roms (whats working/not and screenies are in thread. And can skim a page or two (towards end) see what issues are popping up.) Find one, flash and give a test drive and form your own opinion. Everyone uses phone differently and has different experiance with roms. So try for yourself. I run and personally love the peoples rom. If ya dont like a rom wipe and flash another. Rinse and repeat till you find your happy place.
Btw, not trying to come off like a d!ck. So dont take it that way. We seem to get a lot of these threads. All end up locked.

I didnt think my question was too vague, I listed some of the things I was looking for in a rom, Just thought some people out there had the same needs and could refer me to what their using.

Hi guys,
So for the past week I think I have at least wiped/flashed/Odin'd different ROMs for my new Captivate Glide at least a hundred times. I've finally settled on thegreatergood's LiteROM 0.9.0 and it's working great for me. Not only the one ROM though as I've had to find many workarounds for different things. Flashables/kernels/apks you name it. Although I have no regrets and I'm really proud of how It's like a beast in my pocket, I am quite bothered by one thing which is that the whole thing feels like a big piece of patchwork..
Coming from a HTC Desire Z running CM7 serving me loyally for many years, I miss that officiality (<-- oops, red snakes.. not sure that's a word. Whatever. Shakespeare made his own words too right? ) and the stability that CM7 offered.
I'm a humble man, and possibly carry the apologetic traits of a typical Canadian. Instead of whining and/or nagging some senior developer to hurry up on their ICS or JB development I've decided to build my own CM instead.
However some thought, I think the reason why the JB based experimental CM 10.1s for the Captivate Glide have been a difficult task is because it's probably quite a challenge to build something from something that's not currently very well understood, namely the JB. So I thought, why not just build I nice and stable ROM based off of GB and if it does well it could probably officiated as a CM7 port for the Captivate Glide.
I have a feeling that this is a very plausible task. But I have no way to do it alone.. I have zilch experience in development in anything, had to drop out of my C++ course and have been doing nothing but lurking and leeching since I started modding when I was eleven. All I have is a vision. If someone could point me in the right direction or even form a development team with me, I would be very grateful.
And if this goes well, I will have gained some long overdue experience
So.. Anyone?
P.S. I guess this goes in this forum too. But my phone gets real angry when I flash certain things onto it. The biggest issue currently is that it will freeze and crash (more specifically the screen will freeze and fade into white lines..) whenever I try to use ClockWorkMod Recovery.. I dunno if the crappy 1500 mAh China battery I got ripped off with is an issue but I'm waiting on an OEM one in the mail..

hey bud im with you ... though I think CM9 would be better as ICS has been released, stable, and has a few more tweaks and features that CM7 didn't ... things like in JB where we have a transparent notification pull down, control over the dpi of certain apps etc.
First thing you should do is readup on the compile cm10 from source thread, get your feet wet there it'll get you all setup with a development system .. Linux is a must so I hope that you're savvy in the *nix shell or things will be antagonistic right off the start ...
I installed the CM9 recently and radio etc didn't work .. Guaranteed there is tonnes of information across all devices on xda-developers and even in general development threads.
Scroll through these forums, find the github links and learn how to setup your own, download the sources for the kernels from the other devs (theres a couple CM10.1s out there).
CM7 .. while I appreciate where you're coming from as i LOVED having CM7 on my Galaxy ACE - everything just worked... battery was great, it looked cool, and it was just off the stock enough to be unique and rub in iPhone users' faces
If I had the time I'd take it on with you .. chart your work and links that have helped you as you go along.
maybe he say that, because the glide have GB and ics officialy and not JB, so, if i understand what he say, maybe a romCM based y that version can be more stable, and less bugs, i was thinking about a CM9 too. But, if i remember correctly, it must create a device tree and a lot of thing, but i am not sure becausea never do a rom.

.... maybe I should just build a linux VM and give it a go in my spare time .... we're so starved for developers for our glides even amateur contributions can't hurt .... in the 2nd link the guy said it took him 11 months to learn how to mod for ICS from no experience so ..... depends on how much you want to commit to it ..

Flagged to be moved to general. If this turns into a dev thread, then you can flag to move it to the dev section, but you only post in the dev sections if you actually have a product or are actively working on something.
Your intentions seem great, but never wait for someone else to help you, otherwise it will never get done. No one is going to carry you through learning this.
There's a ton of guides out there on how to build, port, cherry pick CM commits, etc. etc. Go find them and start learning. Ask SPECIFIC questions if you have any.
No one shows up to college on day 1 and says I'd like to learn how to be a doctor, engineer, pharmacist, journalist, etc. There's a lot of steps in between. So go and get started.

I've been around since cyanogenmod was just another rom along with bugless beast and whatever the hell was running things on eclair/mytouch and ive compiled kernels hundreds of times back when slackware linux 3.5 was out so i feel like im somewhat of a vet and i appreciate the fact that i have a nice little linux device permanently connected to a broadband connection with so much support in a neat little package.
=)!
and yet i never say anything on XDA i just appreciate... unfortunately i cant post in the development forum because i dont say much ;/
big thumbs up to cyanogenmod for taking their work so seriously and being so persistent, you guys must really love what you do, trust me i know the feeling =]
i just got this phone last week and before i did anything i rooted and installed the latest CM with whatever kernel appealed to me in the dev forum and i thought seriously my screen was defective i had no idea it was just a rom/kernel issue so im glad that over with.
i updated to cm22, and the flicker started again when using the 4/20 KT kernel so ill just stick with cm20 +kt420 for now what an unbelievable combo!
and i'm kinda disappointed in AOKP every time i check the AOKP/task thread somebody is always complaining about something that doesn't work... AOKP used to be my favorite. (when the ICS days began atleast.. i loved it on my gnex)
and by the way... to people having problems flashing between kernels, when you flash a kernel, wipe cache/dalvik, then flash the rom again, then gapps, then the new kernel. kernels include more things than just addition lines of code nowadays and thats the simplest way to work around most issues i see people posting about.
that is all!
Somebody is always complaining about things not working? I see every post in my thread and I don't see what you are talking about. 99.9% of the people that post state how well everything works. The people that complain are the ones that don't follow the simple installation instructions. You might need to read through the thread again. Or just try it out for yourself.

Coming from the skyrocket which had a pretty good community I am really pleased with what developers do in their spare time and decide to share when it comes to this device.
There are so many options it can keep a flash junkie busy for a while.

I love these threads....I have an idea: If you are disappointed why don't you step up and create a solution or make your own ROM? Its easy to complain about FREE work when you don't contribute whatsoever.
True, don't complain about something people spend all their time on and give away for free ...

We have a large dev community compared to many devices out there. I actually came from a galaxy nexus because I got bored of only aosp roms that were all pretty much the same.
(sorry, had to do it )
Tasks AOKP is by far the best ROM out there for the AT&T S3. I have run it longer than any other ROM i've tried and have had absolutely zero problems with it. I will never use anything else for this phone. Just my personal experience of course.
Whoaa guys ease up on the bashing... OP had only one sentence in his post that was negative everything else was positive.
I think everyone appreciates the hard work and time that devs put into all the different roms/kernels available out there.
Up until the late, I can agree that the 3.4 kernel builds (for any ROM including Tasks) weren't all that great which is why I was using CarbonROM with the BMS kernel (3.0).
But I updated to Tasks 4/23 and everything has been great...super super smooth.
Tasks updated kernel has been smooth. I'm running his newest now, flashes it a few hours ago and love it. The devs for the S3 are wonderful. So many more options than other android phones I've had in the past.

If I'm reading right, OP is disappointed in AOKP and Task's AOKP.... and hasn't tried them yet?
It takes me longer to download a ROM than it does to flash it, restore data and check out all the main features for functionallity..... and you're calling them out by name without trying them?
Gutsy move.
Nothing wrong with AOKP and we have a fantastic aosp community. They seem to be more active then the original development. If anything I'm disappointed with the lack of touchwiz ROMs. All and all. We have a good community and a good group of developers here. /end thread.

This thread sucks, I want the last 5 minutes back
3rd party ROMs are always works in progress. its not like anyone here is hiding the fact that these are all "in development". not all ROMs are "for" everyone, but that's the beauty of it, there's a flavor for everyone.
I personally prefer ROMs that are subtle improvements to the stock experience which give me a more enhanced version of what Samsung intended. BUT, there are times I'll think about getting a nexus 4, so I'll run a aosp/cm/aokp based ROM while scratching that itch. or those days I wished I had a note 2, we've got options with multi window and page buddy fully working.
if you don't like it, don't use it... simple as that. I've never critisized a ROM or developer if I don't "get" their work, that just means its not a good fit for me and I move on.

Huh?
1.) Looks as though you forgot something as simple as reading. Read my post again. If you consider any of that one post as bashing then I think you might need to check the emotional state you are in at the time that you read it.
2.) You're definitely not reading the OP. He pretty much stated that he hasn't even tried the ROM before judging it. That right there speaks for itself.
3.) Please do yourself a favor and grow up a little. Stirring up the pot with the highschool antics doesnt accomplish anything.
4.) Gold stars for you dude. Keep on contributing this wasteful drama here in a development site. That makes a ton of sense.
Ok I've been using Jelly bomb for a while, its ok seems to have some cool features and performance tweak tools pre-installed.
But a lot of other stuff shoe horned it that just seems to be for aesthetics, and perhaps overlap, and confilict, stuff like pimp my rom always crashes, I was never able to get flash to work properly.
I'm considering going back to just the Vanilla Stock DeOdexed rooted, and building up from there.
The things I'm most interested in having are, performance tweaking tools, decent functional features like TORCH
WiFi Tether even USB Tether if someone has gotten it to work on the GN2.
I want Touch Wiz, I really like the stock S-Note I've bought Papyrus, and Autodesk, I still prefer S-note for some things.
I don't care about all the buttons re themed, in fact I don't want a total theme I'll figure that out if I cared that much.
I prefer the stock water/ink effect for the galaxy note lock screen.
I would like to make sure I have access to the hidden menu stuff, and multi window for all.
I would like some way of forcing connection optimization wizard off. It seems to always be checked on, when ever I look at it.
I find the fact that groups like Team Venum have so many projects, yet no comprehensive guide to their projects anywhere very confusing, I don't want to waste hours test driving every custom rom.
simple and seamless, with little Fan Fare, is what I want.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
You really should place this in Q and A. You will get more positive responses there. All phones respond to roms differently, you are best off trying and nandroiding until you find one you like. good luck.
Thanks and I really don't know they seem pretty hostile in there when people ask for recommendations not sure how or why a rom will behave wildly differently on the same device owned by a different person, unless Samsung has some HUGE QC issues, since this is the Galaxy note 2 thread shouldn't behavior be consistent?
Also I'm still confused about groups like Team Venum having a multitude of Roms.
Shouldn't A "TEAM" Be working on one MAIN rom
or if its working on Multiple roms, shouldn't they have a somewhat comprehensive thread, discussing the different roms and how they might best serve
a users needs?
Honestly I don't have time to keep up and read thousands of pages of threads dedicated to various Roms, that don't even seem to declare what the roms
strengths and weaknesses are, just a list of things changed, added and modified.

not so much "wildly" different, but kernels may have different effects on different devices, ie, some phones can take a higher overclock than others that will freeze up and or reboot. It's really more about nuances as most of the peeps are enthusiasts on this forum, a little means alot.
Try Mack's or Miijah's... they are both stellar.

Yay A recommendation Thanks, now I have something I can investigate.

i dont get the first part at all..if you dont wanna spend hours on here i advise you to not root your phone if your not willing to learn about how it works..trying out the roms is what its all about to see whats best for you not what someone else thinks is good for you..
I agree with what evolving is saying, they're not making a product to sell. This is they're past time and hobby, they don't have to make the roms if they don't want to. If you don't feel like trying them out then don't, stick with what you know or try a stock rom. I do know what you mean, some roms do feel bloated but again it's up to the user. I found my rom and I've tried just about all and I thank all the developers for creating so many to choose from.
Did I miss the download link to this rom since it's in development?

I clung to my OG4G until a month ago mostly because the roms I was using were so superb - Myn's Warm and Myn's Synergy. I finally got the Note 2, I rooted it right out of the box and have been tweaking things myself while searching for a good ROM.
Reading the First Posts were always fun (sarcasm) and informative enough for me to know their claims were insane and I really don't want Pacmen or Blobs showing up constantly, anyway... Then I hit on Goodness Noteworthy 1.07...
This is a GREAT ROM. Deodexed, slick, fast, good looking, and it includes a ton of nice tricks for tweaking things yourself. And d/l and flash the 3 Minit Add on.
Can't recommend it more highly.
Try Digi's ROM. Very stable. I believe the battery and 4g icons are themed the rest is pure Stock.

Digiblur is a nice, consistent rom; I use it with perseus kernel. It has all the Samsung nosense out if it yet retains the good stuff including hardwriting Samsung keyboard.
I have to close the thread (its run its course) and move it to Q and A. Please follow the rules... even I can't post questions in the development section... And yes not only am I a Moderator here but I'm the leader of that confusing team too...
Not closed???? Lol
