If i had made a full nandroid backup,(system, data, boot, modem), is it possible to extract an app and its data?

Yes, it can be done. You can unzip tar.gz archives on Linux natively or on WinRAR. After that, its only a matter of finding the apk you want and extracting it to the system.
Data can be done the same way if you know where an apps associated files are.

Can you tell me what is mcRegistry?
It was in the backed up /app folder
Easiest way is to use Titanium backup, it have option to restore application from nandroid backup, you can select application you want to restore.
Even no need to eatract, TB will do job.
Open TB - Menu - Extract from Nandroid backup.

Yes, that would be beneficial if you only wanted to restore the apps. Many of the ROM devs use the method I mentioned to get a perfect dump of the stock ROM and then work on it.
Who knows, OP maybe getting into developing. And using TB is just having an extra app on the phone.

Uh, I currently don't have access to a PC, can you tell me what's inside folder? If that's what's in the second screenshot, then you don't have to worry. It's not connected to the app data in any way.

Hey all,
I'm wondering how to read / extract a filename.ext4.win file?
Using Wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit, i recently flashed AOKP's JB build 2 to my Gnex, and wiped my phone in the process (intentionally).
The phone works great with the new ROM and all. but I forgot that my data folder also got wiped, and with it all my savegames for various apps.
Before flashing I used the tool to make a nandroid ("Nandroid backup /w Custom Recovery"), and I'm guessing I can find the files I need in that backup. The tool saved the backup as [data/cache/system/recovery].ext4.win files.
I have tried using ext2explore to read the data file, but it doesn't show anything.
TL;DR
How can I read a ext4.win file in Windows?
i thought backups were saved in *.tar.

I don't know how it's usually done, but this tool saves it in 4 "ext4.win" files and a "recovery.emmc.win" file.

As it says in OP: yes I used the toolkit (Wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit) to make a nandroid, because it makes it easier (for me) to backup, wipe and flash with a single click.
The toolkit's thread is in a dev section, which I'm not allowed to post in due my "noob" status on these forums.
So that was very helpful, thanks.
I tried Linux Reader you linked to, but still no luck.
I says that the filesystem is not supported.
Twrp also saves nandroids in this extension.
Op: use titanium backup to load up the nandroid (menu -> extract from nandroid backup).

Ah Team Win - that's right, it's what the toolkit uses for backups. Thanks.
I had to get the paid version of TB to use the extraction, extracted only data and it worked to some extend. Some of my games got their savegames restored, but e.g. TinyStation did not - Which is the game I'm most eager to restore the savegames to. I also tried to extract app+data for this one, but it didn't work.
But thanks a lot geoff! =)
Not all games work with backup programs. Which really sucks. But tb is a GREAT app to have, especially the purchased version.
BTW, was it a different ROM you flashed or was it an updated ROM you flashed? If it WS an update, you might be able to restore your nandroid and then flash the update.

Sucky. I emailed the developer asking where the savegames are stored, so let's see if they'll be able to help.
Yea, TB is great - definitely my backup app from now on.
It was an updated ROM. I flashed from Kang's JB build 1 to build 2.
But yea, restoring the nandroid and flashing without wiping is the next step, but it ****ed my phone last time, so I was hoping to avoid messing around with it again.
Actually I might just have realized why it didn't work the first time. =)
I'll give then app dev 'till tomorrow, and then I'll restore and reflash.
Thanks again, geoff.

Could you restore the nandroid? I made a backup using Wugfresh tool and now I can't restore the files. The files are like yours, not disc image. I hope you can help me restore the backup. Thanks.
I got a nandroid backup of my original at&t stock image. It contains two *.img files each exactly 10mb. I want to extract the ringtones out of this att stock. I used root explorer and renamed the img files to *.img but it still doesnt work. Anybody knows how to extract the img files or where to get the att original ringtones?
Look in the lh9 zip, using 7zip, in system/media/audio/ringtones.
If you know the names of the ringtones you want, dl and try zedge. They have a lot of them.

Thanks! I downloaded the app from play. it finds the nandroid files, but when I open either boot or recovery, it shows the loading circle and turns and turns and turns and never finishes. I have several nandroid backups and tried this app on several ones but it is not able to open either of them.

There should be an easier way.
Does anybody where u can find the original AT&T ROM in zip format? Or how/where to get the ringtones?

Here you go. Use 7zip or winrar to unzip and manually move them to /system/media/audio/ringtones. This is NOT a flashable .zip.

Do i retrieve the titanium save game in here?
Hey,
How can I backup my phone settings, the apps(and their data) I have? and restore those apps and settings including their placement on the home screens.
The reason is I am using CM10 and I want to switch to AOKP to test it, and I don't want to download all my apps again and define the phone again.
there is a backup and restore option with CWM will this help me?
thank you.

Yes, a Nandroid backup (what you see in CWM) does exactly what you need.
It creates an image of the entire system (OS, system and user apps + data).
In case you're having issues with your new ROM, or simply don't like it, just restore your backup from within CWM.
so I can do a backup in CWM, then flush AOPK rom (instead of my CM10 ROM), then restore from backup on CWM.
And I will have all my apps and settings on the AOPK rom?
wait, I misread your question I think...
You are running CM10 now, you only want to install AOKP and restore all of your apps, right?
If so, then no ... a Nandroid will be of no use to you.
Use the Titanium Backup backup app from the market instead.
That'll backup all of you apps + data on your internal SD.
Once you have AOKP installed, first app you download from the market is Titanium Backup and then restore the apps and data from the backup you made while still in CM10.
By the way, do yourself a favor and buy the pro version. It can batch restore apps & data instead of having to do it one at a time
As for your phone settings (google account, wifi networks and stuff) that cannot be backed up as far as I can tell.

I just made a backup via nandroid and CWM of my phone in possible anticipation of trying out a new rom. However, the backup is only 21mb. How is that possible? Does it not back up my apps? What exactly gets backed up?
Thanks!

still only 21mb.
CWM backups show as very small on the inital folder but I believe if you drill down further all the information is stored in what is called a blob IIRC and that will be larger folder.
I would suggest TWRP instead as it is easier to store your backups in a safe place just in case you have a srcew up.

Check to see of you also have a folder in the cwm folder called blobs. Your info would be there and it should be a considerable size.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
This probably could be different depending on which version of cwm you have installed so take a look first.
Go I to recovery, choose backup and restore, scroll down to CHOOSE BACKUP FORMAT, then you will see .DUP or .tar
What you have right now that saves them as blobs is the .DUP format and has a separate folder that your looking at. If you change it to .tar format it saves the whole nandroid backup in one file.

I'm about to flash my first rom and so far I made a System Data and User App backup using Tintanium.
Now I read somewhere that for Samsungs we need to backup IMEI info as well...Does Titanium do that?
Thanks!

You could backup/restore the efs folder with TWRP or CWM. There's a how to thread somewhere around here.
