I'm a n00b when it comes to posting on xda, apologize up front for that. I started a previous thread about this, but can't find it. I forgot to attach the files needed. So here's a followup...place the crystal root zip file in the root of your sdcard, and reboot into the recovery module. This is done by powering off your tablet, then power it back on, but hold down the volume down button and the power button while turning it back on. Hold down the volume down button until the zeki logo disappears. Navigate to update from EXT, then choose the crystal root zip to flash. Reboot your tablet. It will go through "android apps." You are now rooted, SuperSU is installed. Download Busy box from the internet if needed. The other zip attached. Is to install the Google play store. Place this file on your sdcard and extract it. You will see 4 apk files, numbered 1-4. Install them in the correct order, and do not open anything installed. Some may not install, that is OK. After you install file 4, reboot immediately. You will notice a "market" icon in your apps, looks like the old Google market app. That's it. The icon will update when you use the Google play store. You're welcome everyone.

Once you install the 4th file and reboot, you will be given a choice for launchers before your home screen loads...it will say launcher or setup wizard. Do not choose setup wizard. Choose launcher, and choose "always" so it doesn't pop up every time you press the home button. Forgot to mention this in the above post. Sorry about that.
I bought this tablet for my mom last week. I was disappointed when I saw that it did not have Google Play. But I figured it wouldnt be too hard to get it installed on there. SHe is coming to visit tomorrow. I will give it a try, and post results.
this worked great in My Zeki 753, thanks so much for the files. worked great.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Can Confirm: Works on the new ZEKI 10" works great
THANK YOU... THANK YOU... THANK YOU...
Thanks I just tested it against my new ZEKI TBD1083B 10" tablet I got from Kmart on sale about a month ago for $139.00.
The very first thing after the last reboot AVAST asked Root Access. Now I can finally turn on the Firewall section and feel a little safer on the internet. Since Google Play nuked all the Ad-Blockers I opened the 1Mobile app and installed Adaway. Installed just fine and dandy.
Strongly recommend adding
http://www.malwaredomainlist.com/hostslist/hosts.txt
A hosts.txt that be used as a block list to Adaway...
Feel a whole lot safer now.
THANKS VERY VERY MUCH for your post...

i returned that POS tablet... went and bought her a galaxy tab 2 7.0 for not even $100 more. I have a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and love it, so the Galaxy should have been my first choice for my daughter anyways lol
Hello thanks for the instructions but i followed them exactly and after unpacking the file and then verifying the file it simple states "installation aborted" and then nothing else happens. Any advice for me? And by the way the TBD753 doesn't have an "enter" button so you just have to press "power" I found out, to enter. Thanks in advance for your help!

crystal root doesn't work for anything...
Now I'm not knocking the validity of crystal root, i've just never gotten it to work. And to top it off never thought i'd have to acctually post in a forum...period. However, I too needed a zeki tablet rooted, as well as another obscure Chinese tablet i got from best buy. neither tablet worked with crystal root, nor the numerous others i'v gotten from around the web. The only thing i've personally gotten to work is a combination of libusb made divers and kingo root.
For anybody who doesn't know what these are libusb for windows is available on sourceforge, and kingo root from somewhere that i cant quite recall, google is really helpful. Just run libusb, select your tablet while its in debugging mode, and the program will work it's magic for the most part. I did manage to find one 4.3 inch tablet that had a 600 mhz a8 that didn't work with this method, but then agian i only paid like $30 so i didn't find it a problem, plays retro games really nice as it has a capacitive lcd with 16m colors, slow as dirt for anything else, so unless you need it for something like that, then libusb should be able to make drivers from almost nothing on your end.
Then just run kingo root, if the drivers are all fine and well, kingo root will ask you to verify the debugging permissions on the device, and afterwards will proceed to root it as normal.
Like i said, I've never gotten crystal root to verify the zip package, while kingo root has failed only once simply because the device in question had such obscure hardware. But because kingo root is closed source and classified as a linux based Trojan, it will almost always be flagged by an antivirus, so use it or don't.
If nothing else the zeki brand of tablets make better warming coasters for coffee or tea than anything else, so if you still cant root it then the 7" tablets like my TBDG734B are better used as a pocket hand warmer or thermos insulator than a computer device.
Edit:
forgot to apologize up front for the bump, but kingo root and others verify crystal root works means this thread probably needs to be closed. Thanks for the service provided on these forums.
1-2-2019 update. This tablet is a POS, but my mother in law was gifted it and from its 1st boot up has been stuck in Android loop boot screen. I've tried Crystal and motochopper from the SD root and they both say Installation Aborted. This post will most likely be read in 2020 when someone finds my tablet on sale at Walmart for $20, but incase someone has a working file please reply. Thanks and happy new year

Hi All,
I just bought a phone for my dad in China, since thats where I live and they are cheap here. I ended up choosing a HTC Desire VC (t328d) which are little known outside China and India.
The point is that I can't do anything with it now. I'm taking it back for him in 2 months and using it in the meantime but it does not have any google stuff on it which makes it a bit like a shoe without a sole. I'm not new to this and have messed around with phones before. I have rooted it and unlocked the bootloader. I've tried putting Google Apps on it loads of different ways and nothing works. I've tried putting it on by flashing it with CWM; installing the apk files individually; and copying the files over to system/apps folder (and changing permissions). I've tried several different downloads and they all fail with a parsing error. Anyway the point is it has failed and I've almost given up. There are no custom roms for it outside China so I could put a Chinese one on and try it all again, but Chinese people don't use google much so google stuff is not included in the roms.
Please can anyone offer advice on what to do with an android phone without google on it? are there any apps that offer similar stuff? where can i get apps from without google play store etc? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just annoyed that the new phone is suddenly pretty useless!
Thanks

I also have the TCL P600. I rooted it already and now have it including full gapps. I wait for a multilanguage version now but anyhow it's quite nice now. You can root it like every other MTK6589 phone. Reset button is simply made by holding down power button for more than 5 seconds.
I like the phone since it is rooted and has GAPPS. After rooting just use JB GAPP zip and flash it in CWM. Works great from then on.
Here is the JB gapps zip for flashing with CWM: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zlf4rlbd2rav1nm/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip

that mtk6589 was the signalword for me now.
i have already rooted the device and now i am downloading the gapps file of yours. THX for the upload weimerd.
to install with cwm (which is a new word to me) and also i have never rooted a device really (except with odin)
how to install this gapps on the tcl600 ? dual sim will work after as well right?
put the downloaded zip on SD-card.
Power-off the phone.
Power on again while holding power and volume"+" button.
You will boot up into the cwm if you got root on the phone on right way.
- optional: I suggest to make a factory reset now from the menu before installing gapps. But it's not necessary.
Choose "Install zip from sdcard" (choose with power-button, up and down with volume buttons in menu) and install the gapps zip you downloaded.
Reboot the phone and see the gapps
DualSim works perfectly. This is not connected to gapps etc. So it's just that you added all google applications to the phone so you can use your google account, use wheather and news etc.
To really root the phone see here:
TCL P600 root package: http://www.4shared.com/zip/3HRtqraE/TCL_P600_Root.html

Hi Weimerd,
i have followed your steps, but some things seem not to be so clear to me. I really want this to work and i see i am close to the final solution, THANKS to your help here.
here is what i have done so far.
1. the device was rooted, i had SU installed (with the usual mt6589_rooter) and booted in CWM, the installation of the zip file from sd started, but was aborted. tried it a couple of times, but result was the same
2. so i decided the facotry reset
to follow your rooting instruction in order to make the rest of the steps happening.
1. downloaded and extraced your file.
2. my phone is connected, i start the flash tool and to as per your instructions

3. when i say download i get the message that there might be some issues with the booting (see picture 2)
4. so i am thinking maybe all is ok, but the drivers are the problem, i checked the device manager and tried to update the driver (which windows seven said all drivers are up to date) see picture 3 and 4

tried the same thing again, switched off my phone before i press download, unplugged it, and then pressed download and re-attached the phone in the switched off mode, drivers are trying to install, this time it is unseccessful, but also here i cant install any driver.
any idea what i am possibly doing wrong here ??

First of all make sure you switched on USB debugging (in phone settings). Then uninstall any existing driver which may be there. Install only the ones in package.
With the mentioned drivers all should work.
Then make sure you follow the points make sure your phone is not connected to usb and is switched off. Then press "download"-Button and plugin the phone.
At that point normally the phone is beeing recognized by windows the first time asking for a driver. Look into device manager if it is so. Uninstall any existing other driver there for your phone and clean install only the driver in the package.
I see in device manager screenshot one unknown device. Please also check this.
I only have Windows8 here. Don't know if it's same with Win7 but should be. What error is showing when trying to install the driver?
By the way: No problem with the booting issue message of flashtool, you can ignore this.
here is gapps for JB uploaded by me to make sure nothing goes wrong: http://www.4shared.com/zip/apWjF47r/gapps_JellyBean.html

Never had that issue. Maybe it is because I upgraded the firmware already with tcl updater before. I suggest to do so, you can re-root it and put gapps on it now
I suggest installing another keyboard. Download one with computer, put apk on sd-card and install it through file manager. Should work
Yeah Weimerd.
done that now, thanks again. but google play is stopping after signing in.
maybe i will do the tcl update after a factory reset and give it once more a try.
if i do facotry reset all will go back as it used to be?
factory reset will most probably not delete root. So just do factory reset and delete dalvik cache (under advanced). Then install gapps zip again. Then reboot. Should work then
I checked this once more.
1. First of all I updated the phone with TCL updater to the latest firmware.
2. I rooted it as I described before.
3. I deleted lots of China Apps and also under system/media bootup sounds and some - for me - other stuff not needed in order to get more space on system partition.
4. I installed GAPPS through CWM. I did it with this one: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
After rebooting I also got the crash of google search. I ignored it and added my google account. After opening playstore then I got update for google search. After updating there is no crashing anymore.
All other gapps are working quite well. I tested GPS for the TCL P600 and was really suprised it works quite fast and accurate.
The only thing: There is no A-GPS setting. Let's say: There is no GPS setting at all. You can only switch GPS on and off. Settings are not included. Maybe this will be unlocked with a modded rom.
I'm now testing all functions in detail but up to now it works really great.
Hope you got it also up to this point. After all steps this phone is really perfect.
yes, but i am still struggeling to remove the root, i cleared the dalvik chache, reinstalled everything.
i cant access my google account nor the playstore.
the tcl updater isnt available. or can you show me the icon ?
i think best would be to remove the root and factory reset then and then go ahead and do it all once more.

just try to make your own rom with those existing china roms and roms with google apps.. it is simple, follow this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113479
You may download the TCL updater from here: http://www.tclmobile.com.cn/productsview.php?catid=36&id=462
This is a windows tool for updating your tcl P600. It makes no difference if you decide for P600 or P606, the same firmware will be loaded. The tool will to all flashing, so it's very simple. Just download, install and run the tool, follow the steps and you get a flahed phone. Don't forget to save your data as all will be lost after flashing.
Also root will be gone after flashing with that tool.

It's not as simple as you say. The main problem is that there is no stock rom available as basis. But nevertheless I'll take a shorter look to that

Hi weimerd and all others who are reading this.
1. I have downloaded and installed the tcl updater, it updated the software, the root was gone.
2. then i updated all software with the tcl updater on the phone. software available was still 4.1.2
3. rooted the phone
4. installed the gapps
(there i noticed that its installing 4.2.2 apps)
keyboard is crashing, google play store crashing. same problem as before as i can see it
i will reset it once more and then hope for a final try when i am in the mood again. i sort loosing it over this tclp600, but its such a nice phone.
i like everything about it so far.
just this inability to use it with google standard apps
Hello, I've just bought my gf the 8.9 32gb version and she's not keen on the overlay UI and the lack of stuff on amazons market so she's asked me to root it.
1) If I root it, can I get it back to default state without showing that its previously been rooted? (any insuring later)
2) If you install the Play store, what device does the store think you have in order to install apps/games etc?
3) its just updated itself, am I right in thinking it cannot be rooted from this latest software? is downgrading easy?
4) Will we lose the things that are already on it? (Full wipe)

(Full wipe)
Thanks

There's been no change to update methods, the bin4ry method, option 2 has always worked. If you look @ lizzard30's SteriROM 1.2 thread, you'll end up by-passing the whole rooting process, end up rooted, w/android market & more installed. Just make sure you adb drivers are properly installed: Windows 8 will definitely block installation of unsigned drivers, and Windows 7 a bit too--google search disabling driver signature enforcement for the OS your installing computer uses if it's Windows.
As part of the install process, you'll deregister from amazon. All your programs you've installed will be wiped, so if it ain't part of the of the install package you'd have to reinstall. You can select to wipe your SDCARD, but that isn't necessary. Music and documents should still be there.
If you're going Gi Joe this and root, install busybox, then android market, that's kool. You'll need bin4rys root method to root, get busybox installer from 1mobile market website, enable installation of unknown programs. You want the installer for after rooting--install it, open it, install busybox. Then you'll need kindle fire first aid. Don't use KFFA to root or install busybox. Install busybox, it's required to use KFFA. Use KFFA to install market first, then market apps if you'd like.
Good luck! Oh, if you don't deregister and use SteriROM and go medieval instead, visit application manager and wipe data for kindle reader, amazon vod, and silk. Maybe a few other amazon apps ... otherwise not all your stuff will show up.
I've completed every step and everything went perfect but now i've finished and rebooted im not stuck on the first KindleFire orange logo and it goes no further

so, you never get past "Fix the red screen"? and are unable to install TWRP. were there any errors when you installed the ADB drivers? error message do not mean everything is working good
It'd be nice if someone else had input on the TWRP install ... which I haven't done yet.
you might want to post on the steriROM thread (check for sim circumstances)
---
I looked at Hashcode's thread about twrp installation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128175
notice step 4.5--your Kindle fire would have 8.3.1 on it, you will likely need to download the file and install in fastboot like Hashcode suggests

Didnt seem to get any errors. Going to try the StariRom method today and see how that does thanks.
Hey, just wondering if anyone can help, for the past week I've been trying to fix a problem with my Fire tv and have tried various methods to fix this issue. Basically I use Sloane 5.0.5 r4 ROM on my aftv 2, it comes with super su and the root does work as superuser requests pop up to allow or deny. However super su doesn't appear in apps (the GUI management tool) when installed (tried various versions of supersu from 2.4 to 2.7) and I try to launch it, it just takes me back to the home screen. From googling I can see a few others have a similar problem, some people suggesting kingroot(not keen to use that as it doesn't give me the same options as super su) some suggesting rbox will make an update to sort the problem. Although not something I know is definite. The super su works and it's binaries as suggested earlier but the gui tool is nowhere to be seen. Even tried changing sloanes rom and replacing it with another supersu version but this hasn't worked. Just to add more details im running TWRP recovery also!
Thanks.

It's something Amazon does to Android and SuperSU being a system app. I noticed the same problem with the Play Store. You might be able to launch it while in an alternative launcher and/or using adb shell.
Run a adb shell and fire up this one
pm path eu.chainfire.supersu
Just to check the installation path
Hey rbox! Many thanks for your reply, and well done on your effort with this rom, can't fault it except for this minor issue. Been tearing my hair out trying to figure out exactly why it all looks fine and well but won't launch. I was thinking of trying to install play store using xposed, was looking at a guide online and wondered if it would open through play store. Didn't realise I could use another launcher with your rom though. Do you know if there's others you know that understands amazon devices to come up with a fix, update etc? seems like you're the only one to make a rom so far for the aftv so I'm guessing it'll take time until everyone fully understands amazon devices and apply similar Android based roms. Thanks for your advice.
Here's what the path came back as, I did notice there's two different locations for supersu though.
correct me if i'm wrong but as far as i know the supersu (the one that you just found) is the su binary but the GUI (which is responsible for the grant notification) is here: /system/app/Superuser.apk
I'm not 100% sure about it, so maybe someone could light up the dark
once sloane-5.0.5-rooted_r4 is flasheed can we update SU from play store?
Sure but you don't have to. Just take that one http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=eu.chainfire.supersu
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app

My experience is with Firestick.
1) On main Amazon screen, go to the App line and look accros there.
2) Connect Wukong Remote https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wukongtv.wkremote.client.en and you'll see the Apps selection at bottom.
I like to go into Supersu settings and the default to "Grant" and I like to turn off notifications.

thks cool app but i still cant open super su , dont know after reading some that you even can
Arghhhh. Think I've soft bricked my fire tv or worse! I was re flashing the rom and was cleaning the data before hand, I must of wiped the system and now I'm only seeing the amazon white logo when i turn it on... Tried to install recovery again since I can't even get into recovery but when going through preloader it eventually says error can't find target file. Tried to use fast boot but fire tv isn't connecting to try and install recovery etc that way! You guys got any ideas or have I totally broken the device? ???
Keep calm buddy, als long as the preloader is still working everything is possible. Did you try to Flash TWRP again?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/firetv-2-unbrick-image-t3313349
Thank you so much! It saved the day! never will i ever be such a n00b and delete the entire system again. Also big thankyou RBOX for your guide and files to unbrick, they worked a dream. Everything is installed now, hopefully in near future someone manages to get SuperSu opening in the GUI lol im just happy I can actually use my fire tv again though!
Filmstruck app on FTV1 rooted with 5.2.4.1r2 rom - 573210720
Menu selections starts at top (Filmstruck) goes down to browse, then settings. Going back up, it goes to browse, then to Criterion Channel. So can not access Watchlist or Search, and can only access Filmstruck after first opening the app. If you have already gone down a menu selection, you can't go back up to it. I don't remember which version this issue started with but I tried going back a couple rom versions with the same results.
Can anyone else confirm this on theirs or have any idea how to fix it? I have 2 FTV1 boxes and an FTV Stick 1, all rooted. I'd hate to have to go back to stock for one app but since I'm paying for the service (Filmstruck) I may have to.
Video of how it is not working https://youtu.be/uz_JEjfbv18
For what it's worth I did try older versions of the app as well as side loading the app from my kindle fire HD 8 tablet (rooted) where it works just fine. Also works fine on my phone running android nougat and PC. The side loaded app would just start to open and then close.
New versions for Amazon and Google Play - no fix
So there was an update to the Filmstruck app 3.1.1 on Amazon Appstore and 3.1.0 on the Google Play Store. Same results exactly. Both versions work fine on the tablet. Both versions have same exact menu navigation issues on the FTV 1. I'm about to throw in the towel and just give up being rooted and go back to stock. I'd really like to confirm that would be the solution before I go that route though. Can anyone else confirm they do or don't have this issue on their rooted FTV1 or if it works fine on unrooted? Right now all I can do is play it on my tablet and cast to the TV which is pretty frustrating. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.
Works fine on new unrooted FTV STick 2
OK, the suspense was killing me so I went and bought a Fire TV Stick 2 for testing. Opened up network so it would take updates if it needed them, set it up, installed the Filmstruck app, and everything worked perfectly. (Except I couldn't adjust the video scaling, but that's just because I have an old TV)
So I guess this confirms there is an issue with the Filmstruck app and the latest prerooted rom versions for the FTV1 and FTV1 Stick.
Finally decided to pull the trigger on unrooting and going back to stock on the FTV Stick 1 that I had. Now the Filmstruck app works perfectly as it should. Hopefully someone can figure this out before I just give up and toss root out the window on my other two FTV 1 boxes.

One option is to keep TWRP & root access but remove the SU folder from the PreRooted ROM before flashing. This will have u running unRooted (no SU manager) with the option to flash SU or root access in the future. Just make sure you are still blocking updates probably thru Method 2.

I will try that out while I'm in the process of unbricking one of my other FTV 1 boxes. Didn't realize it would be as simple as removing the su folder. I'll report back with my findings. I'm surprised no one else had this issue reported yet. There's an awesome library of movies available with that app.

Will have to try that App out. Thanks for the heads up. RBox mentioned that was possible even before the PreRooted FireOS 5 Rom's started to come out. And a few folks have mention success. As long as the updates are blocked. You should be able to keep updating the ROM as long as you remove the SU folder. Best of both worlds.

Well it took some major convolutions on my part but that was mostly because the box I was working with was on old CWM with the boot menu and stuck in a reboot loop. After finally getting the zip without su pushed over, TWRP would say the file was corrupt. I originally used the windows built in zip manager. After redoing it with WinRAR it all loaded perfectly. On reboot I had to reregister, reinstall the app, and guess what? It works perfectly now. So I'm on the latest ROM 5.2.4.1r2 minus the su folder. Thanks a ton!

Did u used a MD5 file for verification of the modded zip? That never worked for me last time I tried. Guess something was hard coded.
Make sure you verify you got at least the Method 2 of update blocking working. TWRP should also block updates. But at least one extra Method is good for piece of mind.
And don't forget to share the knowledge...

No MD5 file as it would not match with the SU folder removed. It would be a different size. I do have the update domains blocked through the router as well as through my Pi-Hole network wide ad blocker. So two layers there. That and there may not be any updates for FTV1 any time soon. Thanks again!
I could create an MD5 file and post that as well as the zip with the SU folder removed if you want to try it out.

No problem. I tried to create a new MD5 file before to match the modded ROM. But there seem be something hard coded. Since it would still fail in TWRP. That is why I asked.

Gotcha. It seemed to load just fine without the MD5.
Well it worked for a few weeks and then back to the same behavior as before. Going to try unrooting again.
Just bought a demo tablet from work and have had problems trying to get the retail demo app removed 'Liszt'
I have managed to disable the app, however this only works temporarily, as soon as you restart the tablet you have to go through the whole process of disabling again.
I have tried factory reset.
I have tried Kingo Root through a computer, it said it had succeeded however did not install SuperSu so obviously did not root properly. I have tried installing SuperSu through google play store however whenever you go into it it just comes up with 'SU Binary Occupied' so something obviously isn't correct.
I have installed 'System App Remover (ROOT)' an when opening the app it seems to think that it has rooting capabilities however when trying to uninstall Liszt it just says that it has failed.
I am pulling my hair out here trying to get this sorted and every tutorial or online info on this tablet is outdated and has links that just go absolutely nowhere, so please do not just send me to another thread where all the information and files are just non existent as you just cant follow it.
Anyone out there with previous experience in either rooting this tablet or removing 'Liszt' let me know what options I have.
Thanks in advance!
