[Q] Install ROM via fastboot? - HTC One X

Am trying to install cyanogenmod onto my OneX and did a full wipe/format of everything from CMW including sdcard, but now cant find a way to get the zip file onto my sdcard to install the new rom. I dont have a backup of any kind unfortunately
When I run 'adb devices', nothing shows up in the list. I can connect via fastboot, but the rom wont install from there.
Can anyone advise how to install the rom from here? I have searched but no luck so far
Thanks in advance, Barry
bootloader: unlocked via htcdev
hboot 1.3.9
recovery: cwm 5.8.3.1
adb: 1.0.31
htc drivers: latest
os: windows 7

Tried that already and got no luck unfortunately - nothing listed as connected

Flash this recovery first......
http://db.tt/Krlm4dPs
Rename it to recovery.img and flash it
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then enter it and go to mounts and storage and tap the last option in the list ! It will mount the sdcard as a mass storage device .....
Then copy the CM10.1, the GAPPS and the VENDOR INSTALLER
http://db.tt/u5FF3jgi
Full wipe already done ? Then install CM10.1 and GAPPS and VENDORS without rebooting the phone !
Then type :
Adb reboot bootloader
(when the command does not work you hold the volume - and the power button pressed until you see the bootloader)
When it boots to the bootloader you flash the boot.img from the CM10.1 rom and then you reboot !
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot reboot
Done !

I flashed the 5.8.4.0 touch recovery direct from clockworkmod and then was able to mount sdcard as your suggestion (prefer to get direct from source). Brilliant, thanks a bunch!
CM10 now installed, about to start config

Good

I also have this same problem in my One X, as this ..
actually, I can go to fastboot to flash img & can go to CWM Recovery (v5.8.1.8),
then connect the USB flash drive to USB OTA cable, then try to "mounts and storage",
but It always shown on screen as "E: Unable to open ums lunfile (no such file or directory)"
Please give me the links to recovery.img and CM10.1, the GAPPS and the VENDOR INSTALLER, follow by your suggestion.
I will try to follow your step, and hope it would be work for me.
thank you very much in advance.

[Q] HTC One X not working anymore.

So i rooted my HTC One X with cyanogenmod 10 after i really liked it on my Galaxy Nexus.
I did it like the guide says and just like i did with my galaxy Nexus.
Now heres the problem:
First of all, CyanogenMod wont boot. infinite Bootloop.
now i want to install another ROM, but i cant mount my Mass Storage.
when i try to boot my Mass Storage with CWM it gives the following error:
Code:
E:Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
After that i tried to ADB push a ROM onto the device. But that didn't work either.
When i try to ADB push the ROM true cmd it says:
Code:
Error: Device not found
And the command: "adb devices" gives the following string:
Code:
List of devices attached
Running the following:
CWM v5.8.2.7
cm-10-20121101-NIGHTLY-endeavoru.zip
S-On
HBOOT-0.95.0000
What to do. im affraid i bricked my device.
Thanks in advance,

you don't need mass storage to flash a custom recovery
Code:
fastboot devices
(just to be sure)
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
1 turn device off (press and hold power button for >10secs)
2. bootloader
3. fastboot
4. connect to pc and flash the latest recovery (or use this tool)

What ROM are you trying to install? Basically you flash a ROM like this:
Download ROM and extract boot.img from the zip
Transfer the ROM to sd-card
Boot into fastboot: volumedown + power until you see a menu -> select fastboot
Connect usb-cable to PC
It should read fastboot-usb in your phone
Go to fastboot command prompt on your PC and type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Disconnect usb cable
Select hboot -> recovery in your phones menu
Wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery
Install zip -> choose zip from sd-card -> choose your rom zip
Reboot

[Q] How to access Phone's internal Storage during Flashing

I need very SERIOUS help. It's my first time to try to flash my HTC One X. I downloaded all necessary files and proceed to follow below instructions on how to install CM10 on my phone.
The problem is (I know this is very stupid) I forgot to copy the CM10 zip file to my phone's internal storage. I thought I did it already but I only realized that I didn't when I was on Step 14 already. Now I cannot access my phone's internal storage and my phone won't boot anymore. Please help.
1.Copy the CM10 ZIP file to your phone’s internal SD card.
2.On the PC, extract the Fasboot.zip. You will get a folder named Fastboot.
3.Extract the boot.img file from the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file and place it into the Fastboot folder.
4.Turn your phone off.
5.Boot to Fastboot Mode. Hold down the Volume Down and the Power buttons until the screen turns on to enter Bootloader Mode.
6.In Bootloader Mode, highlight Fastboot Mode using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button.
7.Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.
8.Open a command prompt on your PC and navigate it to the Fastboot folder.
9.In the command prompt, type fastboot devices to check if your device has successfully connected to your PC. Your phone’s serial number should appear on the screen.
10.Flash the boot.img by typing the following in the command prompt:◦fastboot flash boot boot.img
11.Go back to your phone and select Bootloader to go back to the main Bootloader menu.
12.In Bootloader Mode, highlight Recovery using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
13.Select Wipe data/factory reset > Yes.
14.Select Install ZIP from SD card > Choose ZIP from SD card > select the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file > Yes.
15.Select Go back > Reboot system now.

Thanks for your advise but I another problem popped out. I cannot do fastboot because my boot loader says that my battery level is too low to flash. I connected my phone to external power but it seems it is not charging. I left it for a couple of hours and still I have the same problem.

Thanks TToivanen! :good: You're a genius! Now, I was able to flash my phone, update CWM to latest version, copy CyanogenMod 10 to my phone's internal storage and finally install it.
Thanks a lot to everyone!
I have a problem with WiFi though, but I think it's another topic. Won't hurt if you can help also. LOL
Wifi / Data / GPs issues etc are usually to do with the ROM/Kernel.
So as stated, this is a totally different issue and should be resolved in the relevant thread !!
Glad everything is sorted though !!

[Q] Forgot to install ROM before the custom recovery.

I was following this guide with the intention of installing Cyanogenmod on to my HTC One X (international version), and I got as far as the Flashing a ROM section, towards the bottom, when I reached step 5, which reads "Make sure you already have your shiny new ROM .zip on your internal memory as you cannot enable mass storage in the current recovery builds."
At this point I realised I had not done this, and I have no way of putting the ROM onto the phone. Is there anything I can do, or do I have to start from scratch, and if so, how do I do that?
I'm following this guide regarding installing the ROM, but is there a better one? That guy cannot spell.
I also have this thread open for CM10.1, but it's quite confusing. Should I be downloading the following?: Beta 7 (pure JB vendor): http://d-h.st/fo4 - Kernel 3.1.10 included.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, and "backed up." I don't know what I've backed up, but I've backed up something. I have not wiped anything, and I still appear to have a functional phone.
you probably backed up the stock rom however to push the rom onto your phone you should go into recovery and mount USB and the put the rom onto the sdcard that's it...

You can mount it inside the recovery as a diskdrive and yes you need that cm10.1 + gapps if you want them too. Mount it and copy the rom and gapps to it
Here is a small tut i wrote earlier. ...
This counts for recovery cwm 5.8.4.0 (otherwise a full wipe in any other recovery must be done)
In recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced - wipe dalvik cache
Mounts and storage - format cache, data, system
Remove the cable to the pc before installing the rom !
Then install CM10.1 after that GAPPS.....DO NOT REBOOT
Reconnect the cable and ......
type in the fastboot command window
Adb reboot bootloader
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash boot boot.img (the file from the rom)
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot reboot

Ok, once this gapps is downloaded I am good to go I think. If I brick it I can just break it and claim it on the insurance. Although this phone is brand new because my old one drowned a couple weeks ago, so they mightn't like two claims in such quick succession.

fastboot mode: power off the phone, power+vol down, select fastboot and press power, you're done
You can go in the bootloader first and flash the boot.img. I described it the other way around because you end with a cache erase to avoid boot problems (got this from the thread itself)
Basically it comes down to this
You put the phone in the bootloader and you see a red text that says "fastboot usb"
At that point you flash the boot.img from the mac to the phone.
Then you unhook the cable and do the rest of the guide

[Q] Phone stuck at HTC One Beats Audio screen

Hi, I'm having a problem with the phone freezing on booting D:
Unlocked the bootloader.
Installed ClockworkMod recovery.
Made a backup.
[Not sure] rooted it.
I tried to install a ROM [CyanogenMod 10.1], but that made the phone freeze on the HTC screen instead, so I tried to restore the backup, but now I'm stuck on the HTC One Beats Audio screen & ADB won't recognise the phone is connected [I've got the drivers & it worked before].
Can anyone offer any help? Would be greatly appreciated.
Make a full wipe in the recovery then install the CM10.1, gapps and the vendors ! Don't reboot....go from the recovery to the bootloader
Adb reboot bootloader
Then flash the boot.img from the CM10.1
Then reboot the phone !

Thanks for the reply.
I can't get ADB to recognise that the phone is attached to the PC though, despite having the latest drivers [HTC Sync] & the fact that it worked earlier. I've done kill-server & start-server a hundred times.
Any idea why what I've tried so far would make it unable to be found?
Hold the power and the volume - button together until the phone reboots into the bootloader, from there you can go in to the recovery and mount the sdcard as a mass storage device. Copy the needed files and do as i described in my first post.
You don't need adb, you need to perform fastboot commands in the bootloader. The rest is done in the recovery

I already have a CM10.1.zip on the device, so erased the cache & flashed boot.img from that in the bootloader, then went into recovery & installed the .zip, but it's still bootlooping, just on the HTC screen this time though.
You need to flash the vendor installer in recovery also... find it in cm10.1 thread.

Okay, thanks for the help people!
I'm having an issue with getting the files onto the device to flash them now though. As I said, I had ADB working [how I got the CM.zip on there], but now it isn't & as there's no removable media for this phone, I don't know how I can get these onto the phone D:
In the device manager, it recognises the phone as a ADB thing, but checking the devices [adb devices] returns nothing.
I tried mounting USB in recovery but I got 'unable to open ums lunfile'.
Any ideas? Thanks again for the help so far.
