[Q] Metadata over Bluetooth with Google Music - Sprint LG Optimus G

I've tried mounting my Google music with GMusicFS, and yeah, that works, but I'm looking to use the actual Google Music app. Every other music app I have sends metadata to my car headunit, but Google music only seems to send the time info (track length, where you are in the track, etc.). No artist, no song name, nothing. I've been digging into this a bit and have found other phones that work with it, so I'm thinking it may be a LGOG thing? Any thoughts on this?

I think it's definitely a device implementation. I have a HTC One, and a Nexus 4. The HTC One is the only one that sends metadata over bluetooth to my car's stereo. That data does include the artist and the song name btw.

Spotify on 4G/ICS?

I installed Spotify on my Nexus today and whenever I try to listen to a song I just get a "INFO" box that is blank. I checked the settings and it's configured to sync over 3G and Wifi, but not 4G. Could that be an issue?
This is the first time using spotify so im not sure if thats a new issue or if I misconfigured
turn 4g of on your phone and try again.
it should work fine, the app is ICS compatible

how do I turn off 4G, and why dont they make it work on 4G =D
I would uninstall and reinstall the spotify app. I play music over 4g all the time. The syncing options are for syncing your playlists offline so they don't effect how your stream music.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
+1 for reinstalling Spotify.
That did it for me
Is it possible to do this:
Tag a song I hear in the car with Shazam
Use the option to listen in spotify
download the song to my phone over spotify
set the download directory to my google music folder so it automatically syncs with my home pc?
When you download music in spotify, you don't actually get an mp3...spotify keeps it separate so that it's available to listen to offline through spotify, but isn't available to distribute (anti-piracy measures). It's also how they assure you keep paying for spotify (you can't keep an offline song for more than 30 days without "checking in" to spotify by going online.
that sucks! Any good apps to actually pull down the mp3?
Random Reboots?
Has anyone else experienced random reboots while listening to Spotify?
I have synced a large number of playlists for offline play (over 4G), but now almost half the time I am using Spotify my GNex does a reboot at some point while listening to Spotify music.
I haven't verified if this issue deals with local (non streamed) music in general, because I only have a handful of local MP3s stored on the phone (was planning on using Spotify for most of my music needs). To be clear, this is not a streaming issue - all of the tracks and playlists I am listening to have already been synced to the phone.
Any thoughts? Suggestions?
Am I the only one experiencing this . . . ?

This whole post is kind of nonsensical because you don't have access to the Spotify music as an mp3 and there's no such concept as setting a "download directory" in Spotify. As well, Google Music on your phone won't ever upload music to sync with the cloud. The only music that gets synced/uploaded to the cloud is through the Music Manager application on your desktop computer. The Google Music app is simply for accessing / playing the music / making them available offline.

I didnt realize you cant save the mp3s,i guess if i could i could "save" them to my dropbox account which would sync them to my own desktop. I was hoping to be able to hear a song in the car, tag it with shazam, download and have it on my home computer. Ah well

Easiest way to sync music to Nexus?

Just got bluetooth for my car and I'm ditching my zune. I'm looking for the easiest way to sync music over to my Nexus from my computer. Also hopefully whenever I download new music, the next time I connect my nexus to my computer, the new music syncs over as well. Any good programs or suggestions in doing this? thanks
I like Mediamonkey.
I guess there are a couple ways. Upload all of your music to google music and then stream it through your phone. You can also select the feature that pins the music to your device to play whenever you want. Or you can just connect your phone to a computer, open the music folder on the phone and drag and drop. Easy peasy
I don't know how much of an audiophile you are but the one drawback to google music is that it only supports certain files. And if you have files like m4a and flac, google music converts them to the "highest quality" mp3, which is i think 320 kbps. Just an FYI.
I'll second the vote for google music (assuming you're in a location where you're allowed to have that...). I believe the Music Manager desktop app will monitor a specified folder to automatically sync any new items that show up there... which means they'll also be almost-instantly available on your mobile device.
Google Music is the only thing I use for music these days; no regrets.

Yeah, I do currently use google music every once in awhile and it works good. Just don't exactly like the idea of requiring data connection. Though it seems that may be my best method.
I see there are some apps that use itunes, double twist for example. But apparently that's no good because it doesn't work with the nexus's MTP. Is there any other programs like that that could work to sync music over?

You can always "pin" selected tracks/albums/artists/genres for availability offline. No data connection needed.
Otherwise, I believe Winamp offers synchronization with the desktop Winamp via wifi.

Is there any way to pin the recently added playlist or any playlist for that matter? More or less when I add new music, its typically what I'll be listening too for a week or so. So it'd be nice to have those "pinned" so at least for the music I'll be listening to most, it wont require a connection.

I, too, was gonna say winamp. It was pretty easy to set up and sync over wifi. I've heard good things about doubleTwist if you're a iTunes guy (which coming from zune doesn't sound like you are.) doubleTwist allows wifi and usb syncing, album artwork, subcribe to podcasts, and stream everything to your media device over wifi (xbox, ps3, etc)

You can't pin any of the auto-generated playlists (like the "Last added" playlist), but any manually-created playlists can be pinned.

yeah, not an apple fan at all lol. But if it allows me to sync music to my phone then I will manage to deal with it. Do I actually need itunes if I use doubletwist? It seems that doubletwist can handle everything. What is itunes required for?
thanks for all the suggestions btw
I am using the combo Rdio + Google Music. I use Google Music for everything that I own and that is not at Rdio (mainly Beatles), and Rdio for everything else. Working quite well since Rdio has a lot of interesting features to discover music and I am addicted to discover old bands.
I like Google Music.
If you're more iTunes based and want that type of solution, DoubleTwist is good.
I wasn't even aware of Google Music until I looked at this thread. Oddly, All of my music on the Google site is on my phone but not the other way around. I am not even sure how it got to either place. I had a Nokia phone before and did not have Google on it. I was going to guess that somewhere along the way my PC sync'd the music, but if that is so, why do I have more on my phone than on the website?
The doubletwist desktop application sucks! It is way too slow and limited in functionality. IE: When you add a music folder to be scanned for media you can't uncheck what you want to sync it is all or nothing which is terrible. The android app is actually my favorite music app. I like it's podcast interface and it also does playback of videos. It is really polished, fast, fluid, makes use of lockscreen widget and double press mic button for switching songs and light on the battery. It has a few in app purchases that allows you to unlock other features such as the EQ which is also good. So what I do is use google music to pin music then i use the app "music importer" which moves pinned songs to a common directory so any 3rd party music player can see them. When you get tired of a song just delete it in the app and pin and move newer songs over. There is a free 50 song trial in the play store. I went all in and bought all the DT unlocks as well as music importer. This has the best solution for me.
doubleTwist / Google Music?
Google music is all you need.

Correct, Google Music only syncs to the cloud from your computer (two way) and then from the cloud to your phone (one-way).
Music Manager (desktop application) <--> music.google.com --> Google Play Music (Android app)
I use iSyncr and works great and its very fast, i like how itunes keep all my stuff organized.. So i only plug the phone to the computer and thats it.. iSyncr does the rest by itself

[Q] Music does not sort properly

I'm linking my Note 2 to an FR-S 10 with a factory Pioneer HU. I'm using the music player that came with the AT&T Note 2. It connects, the phone works great, music plays. The problem is that when I connect to the music player by bluetooth, there is no option to scroll through the albums. It just presents a scrambled list of songs in what appears to be no particular order. Is there a setting I'm missing or is it the phone? If it matters, the folder structure on the phone is <Artist> <Albums>. The songs are labeled by order number and name within the Album folder.
So, for example, //sdcard/Music/Aerosmith/Rocks has within it
"01 - Back in the Saddle"
"02 - Last Child"
"03 - Rats in the Cellar"
and so forth.
Anybody have any ideas?

[Q] Offline Music - No music copied to SW3

Hello.
I'm trying to listen to offline music with my Smartwatch 3. I have configured Google Play Music to download music to Android Wear, but when I start the player in the watch it states "no music available....".
I have a lot of music stored in the phone which can be played from Google Play Music, but it doesn't get copied to the watch. All the tracks are stored in the microUSB, none of them have been downloaded from google.
Any idea of how to get music into the watch?
Thanks.

Heres a guide showing how to download music via Google Play Music to Android Wear.

On a separate issue, does anyone know how to start Google Play Music from their watch to their phone?
I was out running the other day with both watch and phone. I clicked on GPM on my SW but it said no music downloaded to watch. In the end I had to get my phone out to start GPM so I could control it. Does anyone know of any 3rd party app that would solve this?
Thanks, I had already tried it but didn't work for me. Perhaps offline music only works with downloaded music, not with music directly stored on the phone.
Regarding to your question, if I understood correctly, you want to start from your watch Play Music on the phone. If you select on your watch "Start->Play Music" it will try to play offline music, but if you select "Play Music" on the first level menú (without selecting Start), it will open Play Music on your phone and start playing the last song.
Regards.

Get wear mini launcher - it is perfect for this watch! swipe to the left and select the app to run
two important details before transfering music to watch:
1.- Do it with battery level 70% or more in the watch. The transfer fails with low battery.
2.- You must have in the phone less than 4Gb of downloaded music. If you have more music downloaded to your phone than the storage of the watch, the transfer will fail too.
I know. If you have a lot of music in your phone for offline playback this is a mess...

Thanks, but when you say downloaded, you mean downloaded from google play music only? The music which has been directly copied and stored in the microsd/memory of the phone is never going to be transferred to the watch?
Regards.
Exactly, the music must be in the cloud first. Remember you can store 20.000 mp3 for free in Google play music.
The path that works:
Before to send to watch, the music has to be downloaded from Google music account (from the cloud, meaning music from premium service or your own mp3 previously uploaded to Google music) to your phone for offline playback.
So first upload to Google music your own mp3 (if you are not premium), then download to your phone (to internal or external memory) and when you're done select download to wear.
The transfer to watch is very very slow, but it works fine if you do it that way.

Understood. Thanks a lot. What a great idea from Google, upload tracks to the cloud and then download again to the phone. They really want our info in the cloud...
Yeah that's the Google "price" to use their services. 20.000 tracks to upload for free is a very decent proposal.
I can't wait for another app that will allow the simple transfer of music to the watch without having to jump through bunches of hoops. It is bound to be available very soon.

I found a reference in the online manual for the SW3 that Sony intends to use the walkman app for that as well, in addition to Google Music. Even better: according to the manual you should get sync per playlist. Also, it would sync via the tracks stored on the device (or so it seems). Alas, my current version of Walkman does not contain this functionality, so this reeks of a bit of a botched launch...
see here: http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/swr50/userguide/Music/
Or does this work for anyone?
There are new instructions on how you can dictate certain playlists to dowload onto the watch. When the music is being transferred, you want to go into your phone and go to downloads and uncheck the playlists that you do not want at this step. Can the USB port be used for other reasons besides being a charging port? It would really be nice to be able to just load it that way rather than bluetooth. I am hoping the walkman app gets an update to play music on the watch.
Just found out that a new version of the walkman app is being released which brings the functionality alluded to in the manual of the SW3. Didn't receive it yet on my Xperia Z1 yet, so couldn't test it.
Source: http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/11/26/walkman-app-update-8-5-a-0-6-brings-android-wear-support/
¡Yes! This one works. Tested on my Galaxy S4, it installs a "Walkman" component in the SW3. You can select in the phone which playlists you want to download to the watch, and then play them form the SW3.
Thanks.

New Walkman app: tested on Xperia Z1 Compact (+ SW3 of course) - works fine - as advertised. Dissapointing are the long transfer times, but it is obvious BT limitation. Hope that some future AW updated will enable Wifi funcionality, which will be used then for the music transfer purpose.

I think it is not correct (in current version of Google Music). I use Google Play Music without uploading anything to the cloud (I actually disabled Play Market in settings). I just copy all my tracks to my phone internal memory, and I'm able to synchronize all my tracks with the smart watch and listen them in off-line mode. No uploading to Google.
You need patience when you copy your music from the mobile phone to your watch - it is very slow, and it's better to connect the power adaptor (it requires 70% battery, otherwise it won't transfer files).

HEOS App - Wheres my music?

Hi,
I am having a problem with the HEOS app on my Pixel 2XL. Having just cancelled my Spotify Premuium account (have to have premium to stream to a HEOS device), and knowing the app allows streaming music directly from the phone, I thought that by uploading my music library to Google Play Music service, I could simply select 'This Phone' is the music source section, then select the album/artist/track, I wanted to hear. Anyway, absolutely no music is shown to allow me to select. I wondered if it was because the music was cloud stored, so I downloaded a couple of albums to the phone and tried again. Still no music showing in the HEOS app. It will play directly through the phone speaker or headphones, but simply isn't listed to allow streaming. Its all very frustrationg! I have emailed the guys at Denon (HEOS) to see if they might have an answer, however as I don't know if its an app problem, or a phone problem, I thought I should seek some guidance here.
Thanks
Steve

The trouble here is Google Play Music isn't one of the services offered by HEOS. If you have the music stored physically on your phone you should be able to connect at minimum by Bluetooth and play it. If that doesn't work, maybe clearing app cache and restarting the app might get it to show up.
Hope this helps a little..
