There are a bunch of good links here for stuff you should know about to get started with Android:

And I would highly recommend reading through the "as a user" and "as a developer" sections of xda-university.com as well, its a very good consolidated resource

Thank u both very much!

[Q] How to Cook a Rom

Hello Everyone,
I'm have been flashing roms on my Hero and now my evo for a while. A qick shout out to all the developers behind all those roms to many to name and dont want to leave anyone out. My questions is can someone point me to a guide or a place where I can learn how to build/cook my own rom. I know this process is really complex but I would like to give back to the community. Anyways thank you beforehand to whoever helps me out.
The best place to look is at DSIXDA thread it's so helpful here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246

people just download it, and use it, but forget to reply or post positive feedback, but that doesn't mean people don't like it.
its a very usefull guide if you're still learning in development/
Thanks.
But it is about Galaxy Mini (and it is in Galaxy Mini category).
With the exception of the first season, everything else is equal to all devices (like GIO for instances...)
Greetings
Thank you! It is very useful for someone in need for tutorial about development.

How to ICS a rooted arc

Hello everyone, I find this all a tad confusing so bare with me.
I have a rooted arc lt15a (screenshot attached.)
Gingerbread 2.3.4
Kernal 2.6.32.9-perf
build 4.0.2.A.0.42
I would like to go to ICS on my phone only if I continue to have it rooted so I can keep RAM usage low.
Do I root again? What version?
I have looked at other threads, but the circumstances with what others have installed is different, not sure if I follow the same steps from the root I have.
help would be appreciated, thank you

Not at all, ???? read my post..... different setup situation I am asking for a step by step, not everyone gets all the terms and how exactly all this works with different phones and setups, linking to that same post over and over is not a help thanks
It has a step by step guide in there! -.-
Ok sorry if I didnt help! Good luck with that temper!
Btw it doesn't matter what you have now! You'll have to flash 4.0.4 then flash 4.0.3 kernel, use Doomlord's rootkit and after rooting flash 4.0.4 kernel again! No rocket science dude!

You're the millionth person to ask the same question, so forgive People when they tell you to search for what's been already been posted a million times....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188
...People also tend to be a bit more helpful if you post on an existing thread, which demonstrates you've at least read a thread explaining the "how to".

If the link they posted isn't enough to help you, nothing is, and your attitude certainly isn't going to help matters. Watch the vid, read the thread, and go from there.

Boot manager devs are looking for other developers to take over the app due to lack of time. Or so I read on their twitter page.... I have been wanting to dual boot on JB so bad....
If you did start a bounty on this, I'd go in for $10-15, sure
So true u should first post and bottom always write please move to correct thread.

You should be the first to pony up since it's your thread.
Since I'm that kind of guy, I'd be willing to donate $10 or $15. But I'm sure more than that is needed for someone to drop what they're doing....

Starting out with this cool website I found: http://www.codecademy.com/#!/exercises/0
Also found this too: http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/index.html
+1 on learning java, then maybe some android SDKs, along with Eclipse software. You learn all this, your well on your way. Java will definitely take the longest to learn.
message brought to you by my GalaxyS3
Id like to have somebody createnan app for me.. an app that lets me access my employee mainframe at work.. we have access to it via WEB, but id like a custom app so that i dont have to goto the webpage and log in..and blah blah...and its a JAVA based page too..

I'm a freakn idiot!!! I didn't have Java Runtime Environment installed hahaa. Got it working let's see how this goes.
If anyone has any helpful tips, or sites, or teaching.. ANYTHING feel free to post here!!!! :good:

You can go to googles Dev site and watch the countless tutorials on android development. Also YouTube has toms of mini series covering all aspects of a android development if you are a visual learner I would highly recommend watching these series. Try to find the newest set possible. ICS or newer as the api has changed drastically and so has the adtt plugin for eclipse. Also you can find the eBook beginning android development in PDF form its pretty good and is also based on ICS and newer. Between all that you should be able to pick it up.
